quittingsugaryay · 14/02/2024 22:23

I'm quitting sugar for 30 days. I did it before and lost lots of weight, cleared my skin and felt more energetic.
So here are my rules:
*No added sugar (check every label)
*No honey
*I'm allowed to eat fruits but the ones with low glucemic index
*No pasta and no bread.

I'll be using this thread as accountability thread. Everybody is welcome to join.
Thank you x

Review of Day 22 (Sunday,10.03.24)
No processed sugar/ reduced intake of salt.
Worked on several presentations for next week.

Prepped meals for this coming week as it promises to be very busy, and I need food at the ready for when I’m hungry but too tired to cook from scratch when I get home.

Starting weight: 10 stone 4lbs
Weight this morning: 9 stone 2lb.

Will only weigh myself once a week, as I believe the water weight has now levelled out.

Review of Day 23 (Monday, 11.03.24)
No processed sugar/ reduced intake of salt.
Feeling full a lot quicker. Definitely spending less on things with limited nutritional value for myself and family. Incredible number of triggers on Monday I usually have limited control over. But I have identified they are the same triggers over and over again, and as opposed to feeling as if I simply need to ‘fix the feeling’ in that very moment with a slab of cake, sweets or a packet of biscuits. I am thinking about the trigger itself and why it affects me in the first place.

A good positive day.

Help! I’ve fallen off the wagon. Mothers day afternoon tea and now today DH is travelling with work and I keep reaching for sweet treats (having been up since 5am with 3 dc).

I was doing so well (3 weeks of no processed sugar) and feel like my willpower has vanished.

Don’t beat yourself up! Instead, focus on how well you’ve done so far and allow yourself to enjoy some sweet treats. Tomorrow is a new day and that’s another opportunity to start afresh and rediscover your will power!

Review of Day 24 (Tuesday, 12.03.24)
No processed sugar/ reduced intake of salt.
Worked throughout the night to meet a very tight deadline. DD made lots of spring rolls for me to simply grab, and I had the prepped food from before.

Review of Day 25 (Wednesday, 13.03.24)
No processed sugar/reduced intake of salt.
One of the most triggering days, which didn’t help with the quantities of cakes, sweets, biscuits, drinks, crisps and all things sugary and salty. I ate the prepped food I brought, and stayed away from everything else.
A good defining day.

You did great for three weeks! That is a positive. It means you can do it. As the earlier commenter FloofyKat, said, start afresh. If your goal is to cut out processed sugar, start slowly with one thing.

For me, I stopped buying family packs of anything processed (example family packs of crisps, bumper packs of biscuits, grab bags, large packets of sweets with all sorts of lollies and things inside...). You can build up to where you need to be. If it's' the sweets, find the sweet alternative, something you can reach for with more nutritional value.

One day at a time.

First week of low carb diet and happy to say I lost 4lb.

Andrasa · 14/03/2024 10:13

Haven’t lost any weight the last two weeks, but not surprised since I’ve upped my protein and gym sessions now my bmi is 21.

I am losing waist size!!! This is amazing and I have lost more cms round my waist from cutting sugar than losing a stone. I’ve now gone from 80cm waist to 73cm waist size, and I can’t wait for the weather to get warmer to stop having to bundle up.

Review of Day 26 (Thursday.14.03.24)
No processed sugar/ reduced intake of salt.
More energy. Round about 11k steps. Clothes a lot looser.
Wore clothes I haven’t ventured near in years.
A good day.

Review of Day 27 (Friday 15.03.24)
No processed sugar/ reduced intake of salt.
Very active a majority of the day. Sugar craving caused by triggers has drastically reduced. Simply find I am thinking a lot about how I am feeling in the moment.
Easier each day.

Kamr123 · 17/03/2024 06:17

Review of Day 28 (Saturday 18.03.24)
No processed sugar/ reduced intake of salt.
Usually weekly clean of the house and shopping.
Homemade cakes (fruit, chocolate and carrot) on offer at a family gathering.
A simple, ‘no thank you’ sufficed. Opted for plate of cooked food (not piled high) with grapes. One day, and one event, at a time.

Review of Day 29 (Sunday 17.03.24)
No processed sugar/ reduced intake of salt.
More of a relaxing day, a little exercise and work.
Prepped food for the next few days.

Starting weight: 10 stone 4lbs
Weight this morning: 9 stone.

crazycatladie · 18/03/2024 07:41

Not such a good weekend sugar wise back on it today, yogurt and berries for breakfast.

Review of Day 30 (Monday, 18.03.24)
This was my final day of the 30 day challenge.
I am going to continue on this journey for another 30 days.
More willing to walk to local shops and leave the car, i.e., taking a 30 minute walk to Tesco with a shopping list (only a few items). Pack my rucksack with the items and simply walk back home. Simple calisthenics each day without fail.
This is something I am enjoying more each day.

Kamr123 · 20/03/2024 04:38

Review of Day 31 (Tuesday, 19.03.24)
No processed sugar/reduced intake of salt.
For the first time in a long time I ate food that contained more salt than I would have (MIL’s homemade relishes (cucumber and apple & mango), chickpea stew and a few other dishes. I don’t cook with salt, MIL does). I drank a lot of water and thought it would be fine. Woke up with swollen fingers and face with the most horrendous headache. It did go down as the day progressed but for me the impact of the salt was palpable.

Review of Day 32 (Wednesday, 20.03.24)
No processed sugar/reduced intake of salt.
High stress levels today. No real feeling of wanting to reach for the sugar, but the push for relief as I was exhausted at the end of the day, was strong. Had a meal when I arrived home (rice noodles, falafel, corn, hummous with salad). A good day to remind me to stay on track and monitor the sources of stress.

Review of Day 33 (Thursday, 21.03.24)
No processed sugar/reduced intake of salt.
12k+ steps (supplemented by a walk to the shops and back).
A little exercise in the morning, and prepped food throughout the day.
Evening meal was a veggie curry with sweet potatoes.
A good day.

Kamr123 · 23/03/2024 06:56

Review of Day 34 (Friday, 22.03.24)
No processed sugar/reduced intake of salt.
A little exercise in the morning and 13.5k steps.
Then relaxed for the evening after a little work.

A good day.

Kamr123 · 24/03/2024 06:53

Review of Day 35 (Saturday, 23.03.24)
No processed sugar/reduced intake of salt.
Usual Saturday morning cleaning, caught up with work, and prepped meals for the next few days. Morning was scrambled eggs, pickles, spinach, mushrooms and avocado. Then out all day, so grabbed what I could (mixed nuts and fruit). Supper was left over veggie curry. A little exercise in the morning with approximately 12k steps to end out the day.

Still have bouts of 'heightened' levels of stress, but the signposts are there before it hits. Knowing how I respond to situations, i.e., the triggers, has helped.

I don't know where I would be if I hadn't joined this thread and actually made a concerted effort to do something about what was going on in my life.

One day at a time.

Review of Day 36 (Sunday, 24.03.24)
No processed sugar/reduced intake of salt/reduced intake of processed food.
Clothes fit better; silhouette is remarkably different.
Starting weight: 10 stone 4lbs
Weight this morning: 9 stone.
Total loss so far 18llbs in 5 weeks.
One day at a time.

Kamr123 · 26/03/2024 04:54

Review of Day 37 (Monday, 25.03.24)
No processed sugar/reduced intake of salt/reduced intake of processed food.
Busy day but by stayed on track. Prepped food is helping a great deal. Several triggers throughout the day. Stuck to the routine of evaluating what is happening.
A good day.

Kamr123 · 27/03/2024 04:56

Review of Day 38 (Tuesday, 26.03.24)
No processed sugar/reduced intake of salt/reduced intake of processed food.
Light meals throughout the day. Lots of challenges with work but remained on track. Just over 11k steps and lentil soup for supper. More conscious of what packaged foods are being bought. There are a lot of processed foods without sugar, like the incredible amount of unhealthy vegan food. More discussion with family about what we buying.

Kamr123 · 28/03/2024 03:07

Review of Day 39 (Wednesday, 27.03.24)
No processed sugar/reduced intake of salt/reduced intake of processed food.
Fingers used to regularly look like sausages. Now, apart from when I indulged in high salt relishes, are they very rarely swollen, and headaches are non-existent.
A good day.

Kamr123 · 29/03/2024 08:53

Review of Day 40 (Thursday, 28.03.24)
No processed sugar/reduced intake of salt/reduced intake of processed food.
Last day of employment for one of the workers I worked closely with. They had all kinds of sugary things to eat. Did have a few lightly salted crisps, which seemed incredibly salty. Had veggie sushi for lunch, then home for tofu, broccoli and rice noodles. Lot of nuts and fruit throughout the day.
A good day.
