I'm quitting sugar for 30 days. I did it before and lost lots of weight, cleared my skin and felt more energetic.
So here are my rules:
*No added sugar (check every label)
*No honey
*I'm allowed to eat fruits but the ones with low glucemic index
*No pasta and no bread.

I'll be using this thread as accountability thread. Everybody is welcome to join.
Thank you x

Review of Day 11 (Wednesday, 28.02.24)

  • No processed sugar/ reduced intake of salt.
Best day by far. Not so much avoiding the sugar but pushing back on the triggers. More energy than usual, 12k steps, and plenty of water.
44PumpLane · 29/02/2024 14:20

I spied this thread last weekend and took it as I spiration to try cutting out refined sugar on a day to day basis (ie, try and manage to cut out refined sugar just for today).

I'm absolutely addicted to sugar, handfuls of peanut butter m&M's, jammy dodgers, haribo, ice creams, cakes etc etc and I'm 3stone heavier than I'd like to be because of it!

So on Sunday I managed no refined sugar, and managed Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and so far I've managed it today!

But I've not organized myself properly, so yesterday at work I had some bread, which will have refined sugar in im sure, and tonight we are having fajitas and I'm assuming the white and wheat tortillas may have some refined sugar in.

I've lost 2lb (of water weight) since Sunday, ice not snacked in 4.5 days (which is mega for me), but I actually think that given how overweight I am I should have lost more, so I think that I may have to start considering carbs alongside the refined sugar.

I'm not proposing cutting out carbs or going keto, but maybe just having them more mindfully, ie not for my evening meal.

I think I'll see how I feel if I manage a week, and then see how much weight I've managed to drop and then try and plan for next week properly.

I'm still in the craving zone and probably not doing myself any favours having sugar free cordial!!

Review of Day 12 (Thursday, 29.02.24)

  • No processed sugar/ reduced intake of salt.
Cooked the night before, so had it for packed lunch. Plenty of triggers, but they don’t have me itching for sugar.

Starting weight: 10 stone 4lbs
Weight this morning: 9 stone 8 lbs.

A lot of water weight!

anicecuppateaa · 01/03/2024 07:41

Wow @Kamr123 you’ve lost nearly a stone already?! I’ve lost a couple of pounds :(

byteme1011 · 01/03/2024 08:54

Day 1 for me :) Got a bet on with the partner to see how long it lasts - been mindful of it the past week but I'm heavier now (want to lose 5kg) and doing a 100k running challenge this month and hate exercising when bloated, fingers crossed, I'm not doing no carbs (long runs) but just refined sugar ie no more lidl bakery! and biscuits, i'm going to eat more i reckon on meal times but avoid snacking (only got that habit in the past year)

AsTheyPulledYouOutOfTheOxygenTent · 01/03/2024 09:14

Hi people, how's it going?

It's the first day of spring (by some measures) and I'm perilously close to overweight, and eating a lot of crap, so I'm quitting shit UPF carbs and most sugar in an effort to lose a vanity stone which will take me down from a BMI of 24.9 to about 22 and fit me into some of my favourite clothes. Checking in here for accountability. My target for the day while I'm WFH, is to not go to the baker at lunchtime for a cinnamon roll.

NotAgainWilson · 01/03/2024 11:08

Oh well, difficult to completely avoid sugar/carbs with DS visiting this week. It is not going perfect, far from it, but I have lost another 2 pounds so that’s progress. 🙂

I believe bread is the main driver of the loss (and water weight). I used to practically inhale an entire loaf of bread with cream cheese and chilli sauce. The thick sliced kind (not the best quality either). It was sheer comfort for me. Removing that completely I believe has certainly helped.

Review of Day 13 (Friday, 01.03.24)

  • No processed sugar/ reduced intake of salt.
Early start at work and late finish. Did not stop at Tesco on the way home. No real sugar cravings, quick meal in the evening, and achieved 12k steps. A good day.
OldFatLadyTriesAgain · 03/03/2024 04:32

Forgot about this thread as I fell into my old binge habits for much of February.

My aim is to avoid the corner shops. Also to take a list to the supermarket instead of aimlessly cruising the aisles.

It was quite frightening how very fast it all went wrong.

Looking forward to being part of a succcessful group.

Review of Day 14 (Saturday, 02.03.24)

  • No processed sugar/ reduced intake of salt.
DS’s birthday celebration that included three types of cakes due to different dietary requirements. It was bowling followed by pizza hut. I did not eat any cake, drank lots of iced water, and stuck to the salad bar at pizza hut (refilled the bowl two times) and no sauces. Not as hard as I thought it would be. When I returned home, I ate food I prepared before I left, while my family polished off the left over pizza and chips they brought home.

Starting weight: 10 stone 4lbs
Weight this morning: 9 stone 6lbs.

Still losing water weight.

Review of Day 15 (Sunday, 03.03.24)

  • No processed sugar/ reduced intake of salt.
More of a relaxed day. No one really hungry for anything heavy, so ate light meals throughout the day. Not as many steps, but a little exercise in the morning. Deadlines and outstanding work, all weighing heavily on my mind. Reaching for sugar is no longer the issue, but seeing what is, is becoming clearer. A good day.
Peachesandmelons · 04/03/2024 03:58

Please could I join too. Today will be day 1 for me. I did this three years ago for 100 days and it was very good!

Andrasa · 04/03/2024 13:08

My lent cleanup is going really well! I did have cake (wedding cake tasting) but other than that I haven’t really touched sugar and haven’t found it too bad.

sw:60.3kg
cw:58kg

my waist measurement has also gone from 80 to 75 cm so that’s going quite well!

Kamr123 · 05/03/2024 03:29

Review of Day 16 (Monday, 04.03.24)
No processed sugar/ reduced intake of salt.
A cooked breakfast and a decent sized chickpea salad for lunch, meant I wasn’t as hungry when I arrived home after work. Worked until around 21:00 and then settled for the evening. 9k steps and muscle ache in the arms from the little exercise I did the day before. Felt good to feel a muscle ache from exercise than the usual stomach ache from overeating.
A good day.

Starting weight: 10 stone 4lbs
Weight this morning: 9 stone 5lbs.

OldFatLadyTriesAgain · 05/03/2024 06:26

Yesterday was my first day in weeks of no processed sugar in the form of baked goods or snack food. I had about a tablespoonful of sauce with my tea, so there would have been sugar and/or sweetener in that. That will be the hardest source to avoid.

No corner shop!

Kamr123 · 06/03/2024 04:49

Review of Day 17 (Tuesday,05.03.24)
No processed sugar/ reduced intake of salt.
Small bowl of broccoli and homemade pasta sauce with tofu in the morning. Took some for lunch and had with fruit. DD made Tteokbokki when we arrived home, so nice ending to the day.
No real sugar cravings at all. A good day.

OldFatLadyTriesAgain · 06/03/2024 06:48

I got up with good intentions, but fell at the first hurdle in the supermarket: swerving the biscuit aisle. Tried to rush through my list at a time of day when it was very busy.

Lesson learned - go at a time which suits me when it's much quieter, snd maybe go more frequently with a shorter list. And much better planning.

Actual meals were fine. And no sauces or mayo.

byteme1011 · 06/03/2024 18:52

I'm on day 6, finding i'm waking up feeling fresher (nighttime was my sugary cupboard rumble time) and less energy dips

Kamr123 · 07/03/2024 04:19

Review of Day 18 (Wednesday, 06.03.24)
No processed sugar/ reduced intake of salt.
Nonstop from the time I arrived at work. Finished at 18:00 and then continued after I arrived home until 20:00. Only managed to eat my packed lunch at around 14:00 in the afternoon. A quick omelette in the evening with roasted sweet potato, spinach and avocado.

Starting weight: 10 stone 4lbs
Weight this morning: 9 stone 4lbs.

Kamr123 · 08/03/2024 04:11

Review of Day 19 (Thursday, 07.03.24)
No processed sugar/ reduced intake of salt.
Good day today, stress levels have certainly reduced along with the sugar consumption. Every now and then, there will be a stress trigger, but nothing like before. Thinking about 'stuffing' my face as a response, has greatly reduced.
Another good day.

Kamr123 · 09/03/2024 05:00

Review of Day 20 (Friday 08.03.24)
No processed sugar/ reduced intake of salt.
Approximately 10k steps, busy all day, straight home after work.
Light meal in the evening with fruit, yoghurt and nuts.

Starting weight: 10 stone 4lbs
Weight this morning: 9 stone 3lbs.

crazycatladie · 09/03/2024 09:20

Hello, so glad I came across this thread, I'm on day 3 of reducing carbs and sugar intake. So far so good. I'm 5 stone overweight and desperately needed to address this. Seeing how well you're all doing is so encouraging.

Kamr123 · 10/03/2024 08:12

Review of Day 21 (Saturday, 09.03.24)
No processed sugar/ reduced intake of salt.
Up early to clean. Easy breakfast of scrambled eggs, olives, avocado and lots of spinach. Nuts and fruits to tide over, as out shopping most of the day. Bolognese sauce with lots of steamed cabbage, broccoli and carrots for supper and DD’s homemade smoothie ice cream. Felt quite full at the end of the day but satisfied.

Why no bread if it’s quitting sugar …just cutting out bread and pasta will make you shift weight for sure
