Hi, started phase 1 today, anyone else following the reset in 2024?

OP posts:
MissisBoote · 15/03/2024 00:26

And last thing - now that I'm in phase 4 I tend to eat phase 3 Monday to Thursday and then have the weekend being more relaxed. So it's not just one treat meal a week for the rest of your life. Just the next 10 weeks.

alloutofcareunits · 15/03/2024 08:56

@MissisBoote thanks for the helpful advice. @Syan7 I also struggle with not being able to have a cup of tea with a splash of milk, I can drink black coffee but don't hugely enjoy it. I find the diet books a bit unclear, some of it's a bit "avoid it, but have it if you must" for example "nightshades" which I've never heard called that before, I've been having red peppers roasted as I can't just eat piles of green veg for every meal. I also find it hard not having a little mayonnaise or dressing on a salad but I guess the olive oil in phase 3 will help. I feel really exhausted and fell asleep in front of the TV at 9.30 last night which is unlike me! I also can't work out if I can have cheese salad on phase 2, it seems to imply no dairy but then there's a quick lunch with some kind of cheese, and natural yogurt is mentioned?! I'm going to to look on instagram again, I couldn't find the right group last time

alloutofcareunits · 15/03/2024 08:57

@MissisBoote well done on your weight loss that's fantastic when you already only had a small amount to lose

MissisBoote · 15/03/2024 09:36

Yes no dairy in phase 2. I think there are some inconsistencies in the first edition of the book.

I'm made up about the weight loss, but I'm particularly pleased with how it's shifted the middle aged spread that was becoming uncomfortable. I wasn't technically overweight when I started but now my visceral fat levels are much reduced so it's all about reducing my risk levels for future disease.

MissisBoote · 15/03/2024 09:39

@alloutofcareunits could you make a raw slaw out of cabbage and carrots with a bit of ACV over it? I find that a really useful addition to salads and I like the crunch it gives you too.

alloutofcareunits · 15/03/2024 09:44

@MissisBoote sorry, what is ACV? I'm going to buy a few different salad ingredients today

alloutofcareunits · 15/03/2024 10:54

@MissisBoote sorry just realised, apple cider vinegar 🤦🏻‍♀️

With the dairy she recommends not having it during phase 2 just so you can slowly reintroduce in phase 3, and see if it’s something you tolerate or if it’s giving you issues, even those you might not have been aware of before. But it’s not set in stone, and I think in the book, at least the second edition, it’s not forbidden in phase 2 if you don’t want to, and are sure you’re OK with it.

ItsNotEasyBeingGreens · 15/03/2024 17:46

Oh also, she’s pretty hard-core about not having it in tea and coffee and I think it’s probably for a couple of reasons. One being that she doesn’t want you to mix proteins within one meal – so if you were having cheese and then milk in your tea, that wouldn’t be great (even though technically, they’re the same thing I suppose!) And secondly, you can’t have tea or coffee between meals. Just water. I think somewhere she says that it’s just better to get used to having it without because it’s easier in general for the whole thing.

But I’m with you, tea with milk is basically my solace and always has been in any other diet I’ve done! So it’s a shift.

ItsNotEasyBeingGreens · 15/03/2024 17:47

Sorry for spamming the thread, but just to add, even though it’s quite strict, for some reason I’ve been able to stick to it for just over two weeks and have lost 11 pounds, which is unheard of for me. I think what’s helping me is believing it actually works, versus the constant noise in my head when I’m doing something like slimming world or low carb or whatever of whether it’s actually going to do anything.

alloutofcareunits · 15/03/2024 18:18

@ItsNotEasyBeingGreens that's a fantastic weight loss, I'm holding out until Monday before I get weighed. The recipe book says you can have dairy as long as you're sure you don't react to it is I've read correctly, I've been looking again. I've cut it out before and been fine so have bought some fage yogurt that's 9% protein just for a breakfast change, i don't eat meat (do eat fish) and not keen on eggs so I was left with either vegetables or the apple and seeds. I can't bring myself to have veg for breakfast so have been having the apple with seeds. Really looking forward to moving into phase 3

Frenchfemme · 16/03/2024 11:36

@ItsNotEasyBeingGreens Not spamming at all - thank you for sharing your experiences and great weight loss. @alloutofcareunits I also don’t eat meat, do eat fish, and not keen on eggs. I have decided to cut out dairy for P2 to see if it helps at all with arthritis etc. Normally I eat a fair bit of cheese (living in France it would be rude not to!), butter and Greek yoghurt. I’m looking forward to seeing if I notice any difference when I start reintroducing things. So am sticking with apple and seeds or walnuts for the breakfast I don’t normally have.

alloutofcareunits · 16/03/2024 12:25

@Frenchfemme it will be interesting to see how the dairy affects you, hopefully you'll see an improvement in your arthritis 🤞🏻in the recipe book it says to avoid, then on the list of foods you can eat in phase 2 it lists 9% protein Greek yogurt and cheese. I'll try and skip the cheese until phase 3 but the yogurt this morning was delicious! I went to the gym this morning to do weights (no cardio) and could definitely see a difference in the menopausal roll I've grown round my middle 😂 it motivated me to keep at it

alloutofcareunits · 18/03/2024 08:03

That's the first week done so thought I'd get weighed, I've lost exactly 7 pounds! I've never managed that in my life never mind at 56 and menopausal, extremely happy with that. If I can lose 4.5 this week I'll be under 11st which will be very satisfying

Frenchfemme · 18/03/2024 09:15

@alloutofcareunits Well done, that’s a great start! P2 D6 here. So far I’ve lost 2.1kg (about 4.5 lb). I’m 68 and long past menopause (!) so although I would have liked to have lost a bit more I can't complain. I must confess that I have gone slightly over the allowance on avocado as I refuse to waste the bit left and it doesn’t keep well - at least that’s my excuse. Good luck for your next week.

Syan7 · 21/03/2024 23:47

@MissisBoote thank you so much for your reply and I’m sorry for not responding sooner. I was on the penultimate day of phase 2 on my last message and being a bit of a Debbie downer! I went way overboard with the cheat meal and it turned into a cheat day. I had my best friend over with her 3 kids and my two boys and it was absolute mayhem. We ate pizza and cake and sweets and halloumi fries and crisps and just rubbish! I’m glad to say that I got straight back on it the following day and have continued to stick to it. I lost a stone in those 16 days. I was weighing every day (I needed to get me through) but now I’ll weigh myself every Friday moving forwards. I don’t expect to have lost much this week as book says first 2 weeks can be slow but I’ve come too far not to stick at this and you’re right phase 3 is becoming more enjoyable. I’m still not adding milk to tea and coffee etc but I’d say having a flat white every morning is what I miss the most. I just hope and pray the next 10 weeks are a success and I don’t have to stay in phase 3 for months. I’ve still got 1.5stone left to lose. It’s definitely changing my mindset and I’m glad I’m not constantly snacking anymore. I’m getting use to the portion sizes as well.

@alloutofcareunits are you almost done yet? I hope it’s been going well? @Frenchfemme same to you? I hope your joints have been ok?

Syan7 · 21/03/2024 23:50

@ItsNotEasyBeingGreens I know what you mean about slimming world. I’ve tried it twice and never really believed in it to begin with. It’s not my idea of eating healthy. I’d much prefer to have a salad with olive oil than some dry carbs with cottage cheese! It also never helped with my portion control or constant snacking. I needed something regimented and that’s what I’ve got! When exactly did you start? Mine was 1st March. We must be close??

I started February 27 so yes, really close! I think with Slimming World I was always looking for what I could eat, and there was always something (which was great at the start!) So it worked at the very beginning, but then I could just have way too much sugar and eventually it stopped working.

Frenchfemme · 22/03/2024 07:21

Hi all from sunny Dordogne! @Syan7 joints are feeling a bit better I think, but still early days. I’m afraid I’m not doing brilliantly - I am having a major issue with timing. I am not an early riser, except one day a week when I do sunrise yoga with some friends, and I’m very slow moving, so trying to fit breakfast in before my cleaner arrives etc has been proving too stressful. Plus I have to confine my elderly , ailing Siamese before anyone arrives as she is not allowed outside now for her own safety! So I am still eating all the right foods (but I’ve allowed myself more veg on occasion as I’m too old to fuss about an extra 100g of cabbage) but not worrying about the exact timing. So a bit lax but keeping to the principles as much as I can. Hope everyone else is doing well.

Jocastafantastica1 · 23/03/2024 23:51

Can I join in? I’m starting Monday, made some soup and a curry in preparation…..

Frenchfemme · 24/03/2024 09:06

You are very welcome @Jocastafantastica1! There are people far more knowledgeable than me here, and I’m currently somewhat off-piste but sticking to basic principles, but please feel free to ask if there’s anything you want to know. I had some cheese yesterday, after abstaining for 2 weeks, and I’ve suddenly developed the sniffles. I will leave it a few days and try again to confirm it’s the cheese that caused it (not just a cat sleep on me,).

alloutofcareunits · 24/03/2024 09:16

@Jocastafantastica1 👋🏻hi, I'm on P2 D12 this is probably the only time I've never cheated or added my own 'interpretation' to a diet plan. I went to the hairdresser yesterday and was thinking about having the biscuit that came with coffee but they brought fererro rocher instead. Much as I love them I brought it home and gave it to DH and felt proud of myself 😂. I haven't given up nightshades and had some Greek yogurt that's 9% protein per 100g a couple of times as I think the books are confusing about whether they're okay, the main book and recipe book appear to contradict themselves. Anyway, I feel great and am sleeping better than I have in years (menopause) I'm definitely no expert but people on here have been really helpful so ask any questions and someone will know

Syan7 · 24/03/2024 13:39

Hi @Jocastafantastica1 good luck for Monday. I’m entering my 4th week and starting to get into it. I’m sure we’ll all be happy to help :)

@alloutofcareunits @MissisBoote @Frenchfemme does anyone know if/when you’re allowed hummus? I was certain I read that one of you ate it but I can’t find it in the recipe book anywhere (I’m sure it’s probably there)? Any pointers would be great. Interesting about the cheese! Didn’t know it could do such a thing? Have you had your first meal yet @alloutofcareunits? Major pat on the back for the Ferraro rocher- it’s those things that can really test you! I had my second treat meal yesterday and I’ve accepted the fact that I have a treat day (lack of discipline) and I’m ok with that. I’m not even hungry today and straight back on track. I look forward to hopefully being able to have a roast once I reach my target and can relax on the weekends a bit more. I’m visiting family for Easter weekend and sticking to the diet will be too challenging so I think I’m going to treat it as a 4 day holiday and just not go too crazy. What do you guys think??

alloutofcareunits · 24/03/2024 13:46

@Syan7 hi, no treat meal for me yet, I'm P2 D12 so Wednesday will be when I enter P3 but im holding out until Saturday for my meal, though Good Friday might be a challenge! I had salmon salad last night while my husband ate pizza from our local take away, it wasn't as hard as I imagined despite being a huge fan of pizza! I'm not sure about hummus, I've made my own a few times and everything in it would be HBD except maybe the tahini as I'm not sure if that's classed as processed? Suppose you could leave it out though. I might make some today as I could have with celery and carrot batons for lunch tomorrow

Syan7 · 24/03/2024 14:53

@alloutofcareunits your doing so well - especially to keep going after your 16 days! I found the day before the last the hardest because I just wanted it to be over! I had to do the pizza thing with my kids on phase 1 as well 😏 I never thought about making hummus - I could give it a try. I think you’re def allowed some tahini so will look into that. I made the baked beans recipe from the book on Friday because I hadn't prepped and only had tin of butter beans and some veg in the house. I added some red pepper to it as well and I have to say it was blooming delicious. I’d def do them again. It was nice to have a ‘tomato sauce’ (kind of) with something. I’ve got salmon salad for lunch tomorrow :) Really struggling with the 2 litres of water. Some days I just forget and then have to down a load late afternoon. Lost 2.5lbs this week though and I wasn’t expecting to lose anything based on all the feedback so super happy with that. I can really see it in my face and starting to feel like the old me again. I am even starting to carry myself differently. Even though I’m making sacrifices I still see them as ‘temporary’ to get to where I want to be - although I would kill for a latte this afternoon - not even a biscuit or anything to go with it but hey ho. Green tea with Jasmine for me it is! I’d also love to start doing some long walks so will try and incorporate that over the coming weeks. Best wishes for the rest of the week :)
