Hi, started phase 1 today, anyone else following the reset in 2024?

OP posts:
alloutofcareunits · 11/03/2024 07:46

I've been weighed, I've gained 21pounds since last June and I'm the heaviest I've been in 10 years! I weigh 11st 11 pounds which is at least 2 stones heavier than I should be. I've taken the 3 teaspoons of Epsom salts, and I'm off today so will read some more of the book. Good luck everyone

Syan7 · 11/03/2024 12:52

@alloutofcareunits good luck! I finally got into my 11st category this morning and I’ve lost almost 12 lbs in 10 days. I’m pretty chuffed- want to lose another 2st now like you (I’m down to 11st 13lbs).

alloutofcareunits · 11/03/2024 12:55

@Syan7 I've just had the squash, spinach and courgette soup - not particularly pleasant but fine for a couple of days. Your post has inspired me, that's a fantastic loss!!! Keep updating especially with any hints. Thanks you

Frenchfemme · 11/03/2024 16:07

Brilliant result @Syan7! @alloutofcareunits sorry the soup wasn’t that good, but at least it’s only for a couple of days. Having my first protein day today. I have decided to give up coffee for a few days to see if I notice any difference. So far I have been feeling quite cold and tired but looking forward to feeling better soon.

alloutofcareunits · 11/03/2024 16:15

@Syan7 I only drink decaffeinated coffee due to high blood pressure, obviously losing 2 stones will help that too! Enjoy your protein 😂

Syan7 · 11/03/2024 17:53

@alloutofcareunits 😂

alloutofcareunits · 12/03/2024 18:33

Tomorrow can't come soon enough I've been cold and hungry since Monday morning 😂 I've never been so excited about eating an apple for breakfast!

canina · 12/03/2024 19:00

Can someone give a quick rundown of the process, Or point to the best info online, thanks.

Syan7 · 12/03/2024 22:16

@alloutofcareunits i was the same! I saved my apple for the evening :) Well done for getting through your first 2 days. I hated every min of it.

I didn’t feel cold until a couple of days ago but I’d read that people had experienced this.

how have you feeling hunger wise?

@canina it best to buy the HBD cookery book online it’s £10 or check out the basics online. There’s 10 main rules to follow and it’s too much to list on here.

Syan7 · 12/03/2024 22:17

@Frenchfemme @Nonewclothes2024 how are you getting on??

alloutofcareunits · 12/03/2024 22:23

@Syan7 I've been lightheaded and feel extremely hungry but all I've had is a bowl of the butternut squash soup and some roasted veg. Going to bed now before I faint 😂 seeds and apple never sounded so appealing! I walk my dogs as soon as I get up so it won't be within an hour of waking but I'll aim to eat them within 2 hours. My salad is all ready in the fridge to take to work. How is it going for you?

Syan7 · 12/03/2024 23:08

@alloutofcareunits I am literally counting down the days until Saturday. The lightheadedness did subside for me after 4 or 5 days but I fell asleep in front of the TV for the first time in my life at the weekend as some days I’m just so tired! I’m also a bit slow to remember things and brain hasn’t been functioning at normal speed throughout the entire process. Don’t forget to drink your half litre of water before breakfast and make sure your first bite is protein as annoyingly I still keep forgetting that one and tuck into something whilst it’s still cooking! Enjoy your sweet breakfast and day of protein portions :)

alloutofcareunits · 13/03/2024 12:15

@Syan7 an apple never tasted so good!! I'm eating tuna and salad leaves at the moment. Someone made me a cup of black coffee this morning and I absentmindedly drank it then remembered it's only allowed with meals. I doubt it'll make much difference but I'll try not to do it again. What is your treat meal on Saturday going to be?

Nonewclothes2024 · 13/03/2024 23:11

Syan7 · 12/03/2024 22:17

@Frenchfemme @Nonewclothes2024 how are you getting on??

Still waiting for the book 🙄

Syan7 · 13/03/2024 23:16

@alloutofcareunits I’m sure the coffee will be fine. I keep forgetting to try tuna and I’ve avoided the salad because over 100g of leaves is a lot of leaves! I’ve haven’t lost any weight for 2 days now so I’m really hoping I have some good news in the morning. I’ve had a long time to think about my first meal 😂 The things I’m craving most is fresh crusty bread and cheese and I love ham hock so I’ll probably have some kind of charcuterie board with chutneys. I know it’s not what she recommended but tbh I don’t care. I also want a real latte and something deliciously sweet for pudding. I’ve got next weeks meal planned too because I’m going to London and in Selfridges food hall they do the best lobster ravioli I’ve ever tried so I’ll have that in garlic butter 😋 Eventually I’d like to go out for a Thai meal in a few weeks too! How about you? What will yours be??
I cannot wait to add some oil to my food. Honestly some of my meals have been awful. I’ll start back on the salads next week when I can add some bits to it.
Hope your first day has gone well!

alloutofcareunits · 14/03/2024 09:24

@Syan7 my recipe book arrived yesterday, I wish I'd just bought that as the main principles are all in there, unless someone is really interested in the science behind the diet I don't think you need the first book. My salad is sooo dry, I'd love even just a small dollop of mayonnaise 😂. Your planned meals sound fantastic, I don't eat mead but do eat fish and cheese is a big downfall for me as I usually eat it every day! My first treat meal will probably be a trip to my local Indian restaurant where I'll have prawn bhuna, nut pilau, and peshwari naan with poppadoms 😋 . I need to make some soup with lentils and beans for protein, I can't eat plates of steamed veg for another 12 days

Frenchfemme · 14/03/2024 11:47

@Syan7 Hi. I’m doing OK thanks. Been cold and sleepy (dozing in the afternoon which is not normal for me) but was better yesterday P2 D3. Still having apple with seeds or walnuts for breakfast. I have limited mobility due to arthritis and can’t stand for long, so do all my meal prep sitting down (mainly chopping veg for salad) and have noticed my lower back aches more than usual. I am mostly having salad and tinned fish for lunch but yesterday had avocado and smoked salmon. Frozen fish and frozen veg for supper. Hope everyone is doing well.

alloutofcareunits · 14/03/2024 17:16

@Frenchfemme that sounds similar to me I'm on day 2 of phase 2 and have had apple and seeds for breakfast. For some reason I thought we couldn't have dairy until phase 3 but the cookbook states you can have plain yoghurt so I might have that with my apple tomorrow. So far I've had tuna with salad leaves for lunch for past two days but I've just made some lentil, celery, courgette and carrot soup for tomorrow. Salmon and roast veg for tea. I haven't been weighed yet though it's tempting.

Syan7 · 14/03/2024 22:01

@alloutofcareunits @Frenchfemme Bhuna is my favourite curry too (with lamb). An Indian feast sounds delicious. I think this diet is especially tough if you’re not eating meat. Definitely need some beans for protein. Are you roasting your veg with oil or without?

I only bought the cookbook as I’d read in a review I didn’t need to buy the book. I had minced turkey this eve with peppers, carrots, spring onion and spinach and chill and wrapped it in a lettuce leaf.

I was also confused about the yogurt but I know I definitely don’t have any form of intolerance to dairy so I’ve had it a few times. I chose to have pear with it though and save my apple for after dinner. I really have struggled with constipation which I never do and the pear has helped although my yoghurt and fruit days I didn’t lose any weight!

The tiredness definitely comes in waves. Every time I convince myself I’m starting to feel energised it doesn’t last. I hope your arthritis doesn’t continue to be more uncomfortable than usual. Keep going guys!

Syan7 · 14/03/2024 23:48

@MissisBoote apologies in advance for bombarding you with lots of questions but I’m about to enter phase 3 and I’ve been so focused on getting through 2 that it’s only dawned on me now that really this is just the beginning!

Did you lose much weight in your second week of phase 2? I’ve almost plateaued and although I’ve lost a stone (almost) really disappointing to stay the same everyday.

Do you still leave 5 hrs between meals etc? And only have one treat meal a week? I haven’t been doing this long enough for it to change my mindset yet and so I’m actually dreading the next 10 weeks if it’s as hard as these 2 have been. I hate forcing myself to drink water even though I know it’s good for me and my skin looks great! Do you still drink water before breakfast? You mentioned you never had breakfast before and neither do I usually so it’ll just be another chore rather than a choice.

did you have much to lose to begin with and realistically how sustainable is this going to be??

sorry to sound so negative. Just all of the things that I’ve been wondering… any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks :)

Syan7 · 14/03/2024 23:53

@MissisBoote sorry I forgot to ask your opinion on adding a splash of milk to my tea or coffee. It’s the only thing I feel is non negotiable because I can’t stand black tea or coffee but have been semi drinking it anyway: if I want to keep this up then I’d like some milk in my coffee every morning. Do you think it will totally ruin it?

MissisBoote · 15/03/2024 00:06

@Syan7 ask away - always happy to share my experience.

This is my weight loss for the first 12 weeks. You'll see that I didn't lose anything for a couple of weeks when I started phase 3. This is common though and just stuck with the programme. It does work if you follow it to the T. I've actually lost a couple more kg since I've been in phase 4 and stayed at that weight since late October/November time.

MissisBoote · 15/03/2024 00:11

@Syan7 I still have 5 hours in between meals. Occasionally it might be 4.5 in the afternoon if I've had a later lunch.

I always have two big glasses of water before breakfast. I used to drink bucket loads of tea, but I don't miss it at all. I can't believe I've not had a regular cup of tea since July last year. I have been drinking herbal teas with meals over the winter though. I also drink hot water. Never ever thought I'd get a taste for that.

Most weeks I stuck to one treat meal on a Saturday night. As I got further into the programme I also had the odd treat meal on a Sunday too.

MissisBoote · 15/03/2024 00:22

@Syan7 the rationale for not having milk in your coffee is that you'll be mixing proteins and this will inhibit protein absorption. So if you can't drink black coffee, try black tea or herbal tea instead.

Phase 3 is so much easier - having oil gives you so many more options and taste when it comes to cooking. Are you on Instagram? There's so much meal inspiration on there.

In phase 3 I tended to have blueberries or cherries with seeds or walnuts for breakfast. Believe it or not I actually enjoy having breakfast now. Then for lunch I'd have cold boiled egg salad, or fried mushroom omelette or courgette fritters with a fried egg. Or chickpea flour pancakes with hummus, or a lentil soup.
Dinner was normally meat and salads or fish and green veg. I save my apple for after dinner so it feels like a pudding. It gets much easier when the weather is warmer as then you can just batch prep a load of salads and have a pick and mix. I add a lot of spice to my food too so that makes it much more enjoyable.

MissisBoote · 15/03/2024 00:24

@Syan7 initially I only really wanted to lose a stone and I didn't think that would be possible as nothing was really worrying so I was so surprised when it did. Try not to weigh yourself every day as you'll still be burning fat, it just might not show up on the scales. Have a pair of trousers that feel uncomfortable and use that as your barometer. I was losing inches when I wasn't necessarily losing weight.

Hope that reassures you?
