I don't follow HBD religiously (partly because I'm not struggling with my weight) but I do try to follow it loosely because I've found there's so much wisdom in it, and if I follow the advice about sugar, nightshades, weighing my food and keeping protein/veg in ratio, my inflammation reduces. It's quite visible, actually, and I really feel it.
So here's my two, no three, cents:
This diet is really hard to do without support and inspiration. I think one of its secrets is that it's such a welcoming community and that can do a lot to help with emotional and stress related eating right there. That's the instagram community really. I was resistant to joining that platform but so glad I did. I choose who I follow very carefully and not only get inspiration for HBD but some craft and painting projects that have been so much fun to do.
The other thing is that you really do have to know it inside out and how and why it works. There's the book of course (both the main book and the cookbook) but I've found the instagram lives and PR's YouTube videos so helpful for reinforcing the stuff in the book...partly because I'm listening rather than reading.
it's also like any huge change...very difficult to do when you're just focused on the outcome and approaching it in a linear way. Can you open things up a bit for yourself? Focus on how you want to feel? Maybe use some visualisation techniques around what kind of person you'd be if you followed it. I definitely had to do some work on my boundaries and saying no, rather than just going along with my partner's choices. That was a big one, actually!
