2 Stones Off By Easter- a thread for those with lots to lose in 2024.

RedDoughnut · 30/12/2023 20:42

The 2 Stones off by Christmas thread was pretty successful.
Hopefully this one will be just as useful.
The idea is that losing 2 stones is just the start. If you have a lot to lose then it can seem daunting so... small targets.

That said, to get 2 stones off by Easter then we need to lose a bit over
2 lbs per week so a bit of dedication is needed.
Start Date- January 1st but join when you can.

Weigh In Day - usually Monday but it's up to you.

For those that are coming from the original thread I think for the new thread we need to add an extra element. Self care! Anything you can add to help you feel a bit better. Skin care? Body Lotion? Flossing your teeth?
Just a little something in addition to watching what you eat.

I just wanted to give you guys a reason why and why we keep going.

I started last August at 13.1. This week I am 10.9 ( ugh currently on a plateau )

but. I started this process at a size 16. I went to the shops today and got some Pjs in a size 10!!!! And they fit fine.

I have seen a few comments on this board that loosing a pound a week is hard and not worth the bother. But it really does add up over time. So keep coming back here. Keep plodding through that one pound a week. It is so worth it.

Definitely needed to hear this tonight! I've had a crap week and ended up in a&e on top of it all. Desperate to get back to routine and schedule but going to take it easy for the rest of the weekend and start back Monday.

I lost 3lbs this week.

17.7lbs down since Jan 1st
59.6lbs down since starting over... this time!

That's an incredible loss since 1st Jan! Well done, how are you doing it?

Mamafromthebeach · 20/01/2024 22:38

SW 107kg (235 pounds)
CW 106.1kg (234 pounds).
GW (Easter) 95kg 209 pounds

900g off this week. I am happy with that - I never seem to get the big drops so happy to slowly plod along. Fingers crossed for at least another pound this week.

Hope everyone had a great week.

Fluffygoon · 20/01/2024 22:45

@Sleeplessinseattle234 that’s amazing- don’t remember when I was last a size 10!

Have you any tips that you’ve found useful?

CovidCantKillChristmas · 21/01/2024 07:18

Last night I decided to open a bottle of red, first drink since 27/12. Even as I was drinking it I didn't like how it was making me feel. I ended up drinking the bottle, eating a large pizza, 6 chocolate biscuits and a packet of crisps. I slipped straight back into my old behaviour! I know that in the grand scheme of things it wasn't a massive binge but it reminded me that this was my typical evening almost every day during the end of last year. Back on it today and going to see it as a lesson rather than feel any shame or guilt. This is a journey and not all roads are straight.x

Sleeplessinseattle234 · 21/01/2024 07:41

@Fluffygoon dont cheat. That’s it. I haven’t cheated. Not even over Christmas. My calories are the same everyday. I divide my calories for the day up so I have the same amount for breakfast lunch and dinner.

Fluffygoon · 21/01/2024 08:20

@Sleeplessinseattle234 cheating has always been my biggest downfall, logging everything in MyFitnessPal but ‘forgetting’ to log all the chocolate biscuits and cake. Complete denial.

This time I’m writing everything in a journal and then highlighting anything naughty - your post has encouraged me to carry on.

This would be me @CovidCantKillChristmas. A single glass of wine leads to a whole bottle (plus a few snifters of whatever else is lying around). Drinking makes me ravenous so I eat everything in sight too. The only way I can lose weight is by not drinking (plus calorie counting). I lost over three stones Jan - June '21. All back on by December '23. I shouldn't drink alcohol, it really isn't worth it for me.

As you say - see it as a lesson and move forward. I'm 59 and still trying to learn that lesson!

ChickenChipsandBeans · 21/01/2024 09:26

Well, after a good loss last week, this week has seen the scales inching up each day by 0.1-0.5kg. Haven't had any really bad days with food, exercised as normal the only difference is some stupid cheesecake flavoured haribo style sweets that my DH bought me as he knows I like cheesecake. I NEVER eat sweets. I don't like them, so why have I polished off 2 bags this week? I've told him to never buy them again.

Satincat · 21/01/2024 09:43

I must admit I cracked last night for some Saturday night snacks and have put a pound on today, after doing well all this week. However I'm choosing not to see it as a setback (and the first step to giving up like I might have done before) - it's just real life. "You haven't failed until you quit" was a timely reminder I saw recently. Weeks 2-3 have always been hardest I've found in the past, as the initial enthusiasm wanes a bit and old habits come calling. Every day is a fresh day. If there's more on-track days than not, eventually the on-track days will be the norm. Keep going, one day at a time Smile

flyright · 21/01/2024 12:07

Another one here with slow progress.

SW 14.12
CW 14.8.6

Not surprising really because I'm only half succeeding in my aims. I'm drinking less alcohol, but still drinking some, snacking less and less calorifically ( is that a word?) but still snacking.

But losses are losses. A good few years ago I lost 2.5 stones over a long time - it averaged out at about three quarters of a pound a week. Which feels very little. But if it's three quarters of a pound over a year by the end of the year you're two and a half stone down. Which feels like something. So I accept the slow losses, the impact of holidays and meals out, and just try to keep on track enough that overall the trend is down.

All the cliches are true. A marathon not a sprint. Weight loss is not linear. Don't expect perfection, just stick with it.

Sleeplessinseattle234 · 21/01/2024 13:31

@Fluffygoon yup. And was always my downfall. Making excuses as to why I could have a treat dinner. Oh I lost a pound this week I can treat myself to pizza was always my excuse.
I found that cheating is my downfall and the chances are I will give up. So I don’t cheat.

i do eat crips. And I have my chocolate as spread on rice cakes. But everything I eat is within my calorie amount. I’m 48 now. And I don’t have anymore ‘I will do it later ‘ left anymore. I don’t want to be 50 and over 15 stone which I would have been.

TicketyBoo11 · 21/01/2024 14:12

165lb..1.2lb loss this week. No idea how. Can’t feel it or see it. Totally took my eye off the ball. Due to house buying stress, work stress and poor sleep I caved and drank and shelved the calorie counting. I’m now full of cold with zero energy.🤧😞 I have to start exercising and sleeping better or I’m going to get nowhere. 55 with so much promise but feel very old today..

TicketyBoo11 · 21/01/2024 14:17

Question about MFP. I cook from scratch, can I enter the pram weight of my ingredients like I would do if I was writing out the calories. I use a diabetes’ calorie counting book which is fab (our school cook uses it for our diabetic children) Is it worth it monthly?

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 21/01/2024 15:57

I believe so @TicketyBoo11 , it’s been a while since I’ve used MFP. A few years back I switched to Cronometer after I spotted several inaccuracies in MFP and found importing and detailing recipes annoying.

Fluffygoon · 21/01/2024 15:58

@TicketyBoo11 I have the free version of MFP and you can access recipes or create your own by typing in the ingredients and it will match to their database

WeirdPookah · 21/01/2024 20:57

@PurpleWhirple I ate loads to salty, carby things over Christmas, and far too much sugar. Completely stopped everything Jan 1st, a lot of bathroom visits and lost a whole load of bloating first.

Thesehills · 22/01/2024 05:26

Week 2 weigh in.

SW: 15.2
CW: 14.12
4 off

I was nervous about my first weigh in. I've made myself a promise of weighing in on a Monday only, I've a habit of daily weighing, so felt unsure of how I was doing. But I think actually weighing once a week has helped me to keep focused and not be obsessive of the daily weight fluctuation.

I've changed things, cut out a lot of sugar which is a downfall of mine, smaller portions and have been strict with food shopping / planning.

I'm normally ok the first week, week two and three are tricky for me, I tend to lose sight of the initial motivation. Anyhow I'm keeping on.

This is a great group, really enjoying hearing how we're all doing.

Well done to everyone who's had losses and those who haven't, well done for being here. We are all in the same boat.

CovidCantKillChristmas · 22/01/2024 06:24

Not a great weekend put on 2lb.
Sw 14.8.5
Cw 14 2.5
6lb loss this year.

2024fit · 22/01/2024 06:56

I’m up at 72kg after reaching 69..5kg last week as I’m now on my period. I weigh myself regularly so as to focus on trends rather than small individual spikes or dips so I’m completely ok about that.

But I do wonder if I put on weight while on my period because of I’m eating more & moving lesson or if it’s the period bloat or whatever. Probably a bit of both although it’s easier to blame it on the latter.

I’ll not bother weighing myself again until my period has finished. But I’m trying to rein it with the huge portions.

Hank86 · 22/01/2024 07:02

Third weigh in done. 4lb off this week which I'm really pleased about! Keto ongoing...
