2 Stones Off By Easter- a thread for those with lots to lose in 2024.

RedDoughnut · 30/12/2023 20:42

The 2 Stones off by Christmas thread was pretty successful.
Hopefully this one will be just as useful.
The idea is that losing 2 stones is just the start. If you have a lot to lose then it can seem daunting so... small targets.

That said, to get 2 stones off by Easter then we need to lose a bit over
2 lbs per week so a bit of dedication is needed.
Start Date- January 1st but join when you can.

Weigh In Day - usually Monday but it's up to you.

For those that are coming from the original thread I think for the new thread we need to add an extra element. Self care! Anything you can add to help you feel a bit better. Skin care? Body Lotion? Flossing your teeth?
Just a little something in addition to watching what you eat.

Hello to new joiners and we'll done to those losing already.
I started on Monday, but I'm not back at work this week so I'm counting this week as a gentle start - so far it's going well. I clearly have a different metabolism to everyone else, I'm fine in the mornings and evenings, it's late afternoon that is my danger time! Weekends are also tricky, hoping to be sensible this weekend to set me up for a good start to the week.

Weigh in today and lost 11lbs since Jan 1st!!

That involved a lot of bathroom visits, I was obviously bloated from sugar and carbs. I am taking it as a spurring on though to continue to achieve this year and start losing fat properly.

CoQ10 · 05/01/2024 11:41

Weigh in today.

SW on 1 Jan. 12 2lb
CW on 5 Jan. 11 11lb
GW by 5 March 10 11lb

I've done 4 Joe Wicks work outs and weighted walking for 5 days this week.

Hiking all day tomorrow with my kids and dad.

That’s brilliant. This is the first time I have been seriously committed to this change. Can you share your strategy please as your results were fabulous last year…😊

Last weigh in of the week.
sw -13.1 which was in August.
cw- 10.10. Lost two pounds since Monday so that’s good.
gw - 9stone.

afaloren · 05/01/2024 13:32

2.5lb off. I’m on my period too so I’m pleased.

@CoQ10 how do you do the weighted walking? Do you just put weights in a backpack? I’m very interested Smile

WeirdPookah · 05/01/2024 14:35

@TicketyBoo11 it's not terribly interesting or revolutionary! 2 litres of water daily, aim for 10 serving vegetables/fruit, try and balance out by more protein, less carbs like rice/bread etc, 1400 calories, try and move daily (saying that haven't been out today for convoluted reasons), try and eat mostly unprocessed and just stopped sugar other than naturally occurring to get that bloat off after christmas.

20Twenty4 · 05/01/2024 15:08

That's my 3rd P/T session of the week done! Period started yesterday so feeling a bit blah. As I'm weight training I've been advised not to focus too much on the scales and pay more attention to my measurements, I'm still doing a weekly weigh in though.

ChickenChipsandBeans · 05/01/2024 17:12

Day 4 back on track and I'm feeling good. Managed to avoid the rain all 4 days and got my walk in. Started the Christmas Caroline Girvan series, I like that they are only 20 minute workouts. Yesterday was an abs and core but was too advanced for me and I only managed 10 mins. My abs are soooo sore today though so definitely one to keep trying. Today was full body, and I enjoyed it. Food on track and I'm also doing dry January which I'm finding easier than I thought. I'm a daily weigher and the scales are moving in the right direction.
B- eggs on toast
L- turkish style beans
T- small steak, sprouts and mushrooms
S- 10 chocolate buttons

Ughughughugh · 05/01/2024 18:00

Please can I join, a super kind and helpful poster recommended this thread to me!

I am currently 19.5 st roughly (scales are broken but will be around that), 5ft 11 and have just been told my HBA1C is diabetic.

Day 3 now, carbs crept up to 80g because we were out and about and I stupidly read the back of a salad incorrectly! So half of that was the salad.

Aiming for 800kcals and back down to 20-30g carbs tomorrow though.

MugofteaandWordle · 05/01/2024 18:56

Weighed myself on Wednesday but forgot to update.

Start weight: 15st 8lb
Date: 03/01/2024
Age:43

Goneback2school · 05/01/2024 19:04

Can I join in to keep myself accountable. I was on the Christmas thread and lost the target 12.7kg. I took the Christmas period off but braved the scales again today- happy enough with a .3kg gain. Back behaving myself again and will have the initial goal to lose another stone (6.35kg).

TicketyBoo11 · 05/01/2024 20:16

Carbs, I just don’t get them.. it’s enough just counting calories..😞. At some point I’ll have to address them I guess. I’m not eating much bread and pasta and rice and when I do they’re brown..that’ll do. 😂

Basically, yes!

Google it, and there's lots of info on the web. I have tried different ways and landed on investing in a good backpack from Decathlon that has a waist belt, so the weight is on my hips (i.e., legs) rather than my shoulders and back.

I started with a 10kg dumbbell wrapped in a towel but have switched to a kettlebell wrapped in a towel as it's a better shape to carry. Frankly, you could use anything heavy if you don't have weights at home.

I walk my kids to school every day between 8.15 and 9, so adding the weights (I'm now on 12kg) intensifies the walk, and I'm burning way more energy. It's very tiring but really good for working the legs and knees a lot harder without the pounding that you get from running.

Does that help?

afaloren · 05/01/2024 20:43

Thank you @CoQ10 that’s great! I do have weights at home but they’re DH’s big screw-on type, quite unwieldy, so maybe I will invest in a kettlebell. I do have a good backpack as we like hill walking and always have to carry water and a bowl for the dog etc. I really appreciate you taking the time to explain to me, thank you.

easilydistracted1 · 05/01/2024 21:16

Is anyone else using the NHS weight tracking app. Im calorie counting on it and sticking at 1400 calories. I've just had to use a tablespoon worth of oat milk in my coffee as that with the only allowance I had left. Also managed to have a (vegan) curry out my gousto kit by not putting in the lovely (fake) cream and using water to fry in place of oil which was weirdly fine. But ooh I wanted that cream

Mamafromthebeach · 06/01/2024 00:33

Hi all - I did not start off the year well with testing positive to Covid on 2/1. Most people I know lose their appetite when ill - I become ravenous! On the plus side it has really helped my Dry July start!

Will weigh and restart when I am better!

Mamafromthebeach · 06/01/2024 00:46

Ugh dry January not July!

Seaitoverthere · 06/01/2024 07:16

Weclome @Ughughughugh ! I t’s incredibly hard to stick to 800 a day, let alone whilst trying to have a life so I would definitely cut yourself some slack over that salad! I was having a chat with friend yesterday who is a diabetes nurse and she was saying how many things affect your blood sugar. If your salad had a protein in that would help minimise your BG rise .

@TicketyBoo11 you probably won’t need to address them unless yiour blood glucose starts going out of whack.

i’m half way through listening to Michael Moseley talking to Janet Lord who researches aging and inflammation. As of today I am going to try to stand up and walk a little bit every hour which is hard as my hip is knackered but am going to try. Also think I have found a very basic exercise video I might be able to do so will try next week. Started physio exercises this week.

Really sorry to hear you are ill @Mamafromthebeach , hope you feel better very soon. That’s quite a long dry spell till July 😀

Sleeplessinseattle234 · 06/01/2024 07:49

How have people done this week? It’s harder at the weekends I think.

DeterminedToLose · 06/01/2024 07:59

I forgot about yesterday's weigh-in, so here it is now. I gained two pounds over Christmas, and lost it quickly by NY.

Since NY, I've been sticking to my eating window, and counting carbs instead of calories. I've been a bit more active, and the health app says that yesterday I managed my minimum daily steps target of 3000 for the first time this week.

weight loss this week is 3 lbs.

Weigh in day is usually Monday.

I can't believe how many people have commented on this thread.

I hope everyone is getting on better than I have the last few days !

I’m impressed at all the people who are losing weight already (even if it’s just water). I am gaining! I use the happy scale app and try and weigh in several times a week as it smooths out any variability for me. So far I have put on 0.8kg despite (I thought) doing quite well on the eating front. Trying to keep the faith…..

Glad I'm not alone! I've gained 0.7kg so far, despite eating in a 6-7 hour window. I have, however, had 2 takeaways this week, barely drunk any water, done zero exercise and got really rubbish sleep. Not sure why I still expected to lose, but I did because I've still eaten a lot less than the previous month! We've got a lot of stress at the moment (car problems x3!) plus I've been ill with an on and off cold for 3 weeks and my back hurts. Feel constantly exhausted. Need to get back to normality and routines.

DH is away next week and I've ordered HelloFresh for 4 nights, will be getting more sleep and try to get some walks in at lunchtime.
