2 Stones Off By Easter- a thread for those with lots to lose in 2024.

RedDoughnut · 30/12/2023 20:42

The 2 Stones off by Christmas thread was pretty successful.
Hopefully this one will be just as useful.
The idea is that losing 2 stones is just the start. If you have a lot to lose then it can seem daunting so... small targets.

That said, to get 2 stones off by Easter then we need to lose a bit over
2 lbs per week so a bit of dedication is needed.
Start Date- January 1st but join when you can.

Weigh In Day - usually Monday but it's up to you.

For those that are coming from the original thread I think for the new thread we need to add an extra element. Self care! Anything you can add to help you feel a bit better. Skin care? Body Lotion? Flossing your teeth?
Just a little something in addition to watching what you eat.

@97percentCheese I just came in to say the same thing. I have been great today but come the evenings I just can't resist. Maybe the answer is to go upstairs in the evening so there is less temptation.

BeachedOff · 03/01/2024 22:15

Would love to join please. I am 13st7 and short - have 3-4 stone to lose. 2 stone off by Easter would be really motivating!

I haven't got a plan yet but would really like to stick to something for once.

Any tips on getting in steps with little ones at home? Walks with a 4 and 2 Yr old are slow. I'm doing 25mins of HIIT once their in bed from YouTube videos but feel I need to walk more and at a quicker pace during the day.

I'm also awful for snacking in the evening but managed so far to resist the last 3 nights.

Not sure if this is useful to you or not, depending on if you use a buggy or not, but with mine at the same age, I had a buggy board for the older one and obviously the younger was in the buggy, and to get extra steps in I would sometimes take them to the park in the next village/went to shops further away/walked the longer way around to get from A to B, etc. Got a good burst of 10 mins fast walking in this way.
I was a really fast walker though, so could do a lot of steps in a relatively short time when both DCs were loaded up on the buggy.

Do you have a sling?
I would put 2 on your back & walk to somewhere your 4 wants to go - straight up the long hill to feed the ducks always worked well for us. 2 got down when we were there to potter about & dawdle some of the way home then back on my back & race the 4.
(All my children would walk miles at decent speed from about 3 so ymmv)

I have similar aged DC and I do a lot of stepping in front of the TV at night once they are in bed. Other than that, the usual stuff like, park at the furthest away point in the supermarket carpark, make a conscious effort not to sit for too long, etc. I do an average of 7.5k steps a day through normal activity and have to put in effort for the last 2.5k.

Hi I'm not putting pressure on myself by weighing but I know I easily have 5+ stone to lose and have spent a lifetime of yo-yo dieting. I've been close to 16 stone and also around 7st. 10 ( wtf ) and if being honest have spent a lifetime being caught between eating disorders ( bulimia , anorexia , binge eating , secret eating )
So here I am joining you all , hoping to get to around 9 stone and hopefully learning to stay around that mark. Good luck all .

kirinm · 04/01/2024 08:56

I got on the scales today (I've no idea why) and it hasn't moved but I have water retention from my PT session (DOMS) and I my period started today and I always retain water at the start so hopefully under the water retention there's a little bit of downwards moving on the scales.

Managing intermittent fasting but am so hungry by the time evening comes and the desire to snack is strong. I'be managed to avoid snacking on anything but a banana but I'd really like to avoid snacking full stop.

All good today. Under my allocated calories and eating well.

Question: How are you doing with your protein? I can’t get my daily higher than 50g on average. I’m 55 so I know it’s important…
Tips and tricks please..

Do you eat meat/fish/dairy? I eat a couple of protein yoghurts a day (these are about 20g protein a pop), a serving of fish or lean meat, a serving of low-fat dairy like 3 Babybel lights, and try to add something like beans or chickpeas to my evening meal. Sometimes rely on protein shakes too but prefer to get it from food.

I have to supplement with protein powder even though I really try to not do UPF that is one allowance I made because it definitely helps me to feel fuller.

Another tip.

I've started using weights in a backpack when I go out walking. I bought a good quality backpack from Decathlon which has waist straps so the weight is carried mainly by my hips (and therefore legs) rather than my shoulders (or back).

The increased load (8kg, to 10kg to now 12kg) is making walking much harder and much more efficient. Its knackering but I walk my kids to school every day and the 45 min round trip is a work out in itself.

Hope helpful!!

18:6 fasting here, the day time is not a problem, but evenings.....oh my.

I'm the same.

I now go to bed an hour earlier to avoid temptation.

Norathesnorer · 04/01/2024 10:35

Count me in too. two stone to lose before June.

Sleeplessinseattle234 · 04/01/2024 11:15

After reading of the comments. It would appear that I am very lucky to not be hungry in the evenings. But I cannot go without breakfast as I’m always starving when I wake up

Crispsandchocolate4 · 04/01/2024 11:58

Hello sorry I'm late to the game but would like to join please. I am getting married in July and want to loose 2 and a half stone by then! My Hen is the week before Easter so if I even get to loose 2 stone by then I will be Thrilled!

Age: 31 Height 5"5

SW: 12.13
Goal weight: 10.7

I have signed up to park run and also joined a virtual challenge where my partner and I are going to "walk to our wedding" (its abroad) so need to try and walk 1238miles by July hoping by doing it together I will be motivated (to beat him haha).

Good luck everyone! I have tried to join these things before and always drift off hoping to keep to it this time I have no choice!

Wictc · 04/01/2024 12:19

Hi! I would like to join please. I’m 160cms and was always around 56-60kg. Over the years I have crept up to nearly 80kg and have just got on the scales and weigh 85kg!!! I’m heavier than I was 9m pregnant 2yrs ago.

I’m going on a beach holiday in Feb and need to drastically lose some weight. I’m fed up of not being in any photos with my children and husband (my choice), it looks like he’s a single parent!

Am trying to do a bit of exercise a day and eat no more than 1000cals. I’m only on day 3 but it’s not been to bad, I weigh myself everyday to keep the shock factor and have lost 1kg since Tuesday (probably all water). Just really need to carry on with the same motivation.

Walkingbkwrm · 04/01/2024 13:46

I’m impressed at all the people who are losing weight already (even if it’s just water). I am gaining! I use the happy scale app and try and weigh in several times a week as it smooths out any variability for me. So far I have put on 0.8kg despite (I thought) doing quite well on the eating front. Trying to keep the faith…..

shearwater2 · 04/01/2024 14:07

I can't get fully back into it yet, it's still Christmas and I have to do it gradually. I had put only 1lb on when I weighed myself on 27th Dec, having not weighed myself in a month, so am hoping it won't be too bad. I have done my first gym workout of the year and am going again this evening (though just for some fairly gentle yoga). Am tracking food again but not sticking to my usual plan or calories, there is too much nice wine in the house still! Having said that when I started tracking again my calories are at maintenance level.

I have a stone and a bit to lose now. I think after this weekend I'll be fully back on it.

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 05/01/2024 02:23

so far so good.
all 4 days of logging my food choices and staying low cal.
all 4 days of 500 exercise calories burned (as per my apple watch) as well as 10,000+ steps.
i had a bit of a wobble mid day but made up for it by supper.

Zanatdy · 05/01/2024 06:26

Hi all. Hope it’s ok to join, I only want to lose 16-20lbs. Done it before (and regained) so know I can do it, just getting back in the zone. Started on 1st, 2lbs (likely water - Christmas gain) down already. But very hungry, need to get more protein on my shopping this weekend. Don’t want another summer feeling totally crap about myself so motivated. In a walking club which helps too as Saturday walks tend to burn a good 500 cals. No pub nearby this weekend which helps as people often get food or scones / cakes if we stop by a garden centre. Weighing daily which helps me as I won’t cheat if I see I’ve lost as don’t want to regain. Downfall is meals out with friends but only got one booked in so far for January!

Seaitoverthere · 05/01/2024 07:31

Good start @Rumdiddly!
Welcome @Zanatdy

Weigh in day for me, 2lbs off . 7.2 kg in 9 weeks which averages at 1.75lbs a week. It actually tallies really well with what Nutracheck and Fitbit say, I record my daily calorie deficit.

If I take the total calorie deficit since I started and work out a weekly figure using 3500 calories to lose a pound then the figures say I would lose 1.64lbs a week over the 9 weeks. I was worried that being 54, really immobile and menopausal that I might really struggle, I know at some point I will plateau and struggle but for now I am very pleased to be losing.

Pastelrainbow · 05/01/2024 07:45

Please may I join? I started trying to eat healthier and move more from 2nd Jan. I turn 40 in September and would love to have lost around 2.5 stone by then. I think 2 stone by Easter may be a bit of a challenge for me but 1.5 stone by then would be fantastic. I have put on 3 stone in the last 4 years! (partly due to change in career from one where I was always on my feet to one where I am sat at a computer, but also eating what I want when I want and stopping gym membership due to covid and never really getting into it again)
I will weigh in on Tuesday mornings.

Satincat · 05/01/2024 10:10

Hello all. Hope yesterday went well and well done to the losses already!

I also struggle with evening snacking like others have said. Trying to drink more water in the late afternoon as that helps a bit.

I've lost a few pounds so far (likely water weight from eating less salty food) but it's nice (and relieving) to see a tiny shift downwards in the scales.
