I weigh 16st 2lb, have just looked at a site called Voy, they estimate I would lose 1st 9lbs in 6 months. That's about 1lb a week isn't it? It doesn't seem great for £200 odd a month.

Are they just being pessimistic? Has anyone on this thread started at a similar weight to me please?

I'm not expecting miracles, but have to say I was a bit disappointed.

Some people respond really well, others lose weight at a slower pace. I have 4 friends and 2 family members doing it and I've lost at the slowest weight, but still lost 1 stone 10 lbs in 3 months. My brother in law has gone from 16 stone 10 to 12 stone 8 in the same period!!!

Isn't it always the way that the blokes lose quicker - so unfair!

Thanks for responding, I'd be happy with half a stone a month, and know I have to put in the work myself as well - I'm hoping spending so much money per month will be a little more motivation! 1stone 10lbs is amazing - well done!

Radish12 · 28/01/2024 09:19

Hi @LemonKitten, yes I'd say that's a pretty conservative estimate from them, they probably don't want to over-promise or encourage crash dieting alongside their product.

I started at 15st 13 (although I am v tall so had a comparatively low BMI for that weight, not sure how much difference it makes) and I lose 2lb a week on average. Again it sounds like no great shakes but it's so CONSISTENT. When I look back over my dieting spreadsheet, which goes all the way back to Jan 2016 (says it all doesn't it!), I see myself losing and regaining the same half-stone-plus-interest over and over. The semaglutide just quietens all the food noise in your brain (see @amusedbush 's post above yours) to allow you to "just eat less and move more" like everyone always says is so easy 🙄

LemonKitten · 28/01/2024 09:20

AhBiscuits · 28/01/2024 06:21

I'm a bit lighter than you you @LemonKitten and I've lost 20lbs in 10 weeks so far, so averaging exactly 2lbs a week. I think most people lose faster than that estimate.

Thank you for responding - 2lbs a week seems a nice rate to lose - I was hoping for around half a stone a month to motivate me to make healthier choices and get off my arse and move a bit more! 20lbs in 10 weeks is great, do you feel better for it?

Radish12 · 28/01/2024 09:23

Well I started the 1.0 dose last night and was expecting to wake up during the night feeling sick like I did the very first night, but nothing! And I've woken up feeling just the same as ever today. I know it sometimes takes a day or two to kick in though so I'll not put the bunting out just yet 😆

Oh the 'food noise' post from @amusedbush makes so much sense - if I'm not meal planning, I'm reading recipe books trying to work out how to make things healthier, or thinking about whether I should eat that chocolate, or how much nicer this meal would be with some creamy sauce on it. I bore myself to death sometimes!

And yes, 2lbs a week consistently is pretty brilliant - I would be so happy with that as like you I've lost the same half a stone, then put it on (and more) for about 6 years. before lockdown I was down to just under 12 stone, then ti all kind of went to pot!

Radish12 · 28/01/2024 09:32

For me the food noise is more "got to eat got to eat got to eat", and I couldn't have crisps or chocolate in the house and just forget it's there, it's like a constant buzzing in my mind to go and eat it. It's like you know when kids get a bit of money and have to spend it straight away and adults say "that £1 is burning a hole in your pocket" (not sure if it's a regional phrase!), that's how I am with food (also money come to think of it 🙈). Anyway, I bought a pack of 8 Penguins two weeks ago and there's still 3 left.

Yeah I feel really good. Clothes that didn't fit now do, feel a bit more confident, I'm in general making more effort with my appearance.
When I felt shit about my weight I stopped making any kind of effort, because what's the point? I look awful so why do my hair, wear nice clothes etc. Which is obviously ridiculous. That feeling is lifting now and I look so much better. 50% because of the weight loss and 50% because I've started to take more pride in my appearance.

amusedbush · 28/01/2024 10:05

@LemonKitten

I agree with @Radish12 that they just don’t want to oversell the effectiveness of the medication. From memory, participants in the largest clinical trial lost 20% of their starting weight over 68 weeks; that would be less than 1lb a week for you but, statistically, you’ll lose more.

I started Wegovy at 14st 11lbs and am currently 12st 7. Bearing in mind people tend to lose quicker at the start of their journey and I had already lost 50lbs before I started Wegovy, I’m surprised by my rate of loss (2.66lbs per week):

-3.8 / -3.6 / -1.8 / -2.0 / -1.2 / -3.8 / -2.2 / -3.8 / -1.0 / -4.8 / -1.0 / -3.0

Flatleak · 28/01/2024 10:14

@LemonKitten I was 16 stone to start and am now 14 stone 4 pounds. That's over 10 weeks.

That’s funny because I’m the opposite. When I was heavier, I would always do my hair and make up because I felt like I had to make more of an effort to look ‘acceptable’. I have rosacea and I was so worried people would think I was red because fat = knackered and sweaty. Never mind the fact I have POTS, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and fibromyalgia so I can’t regulate my body temperature and I am always knackered and sweaty 🙈

I now feel more comfortable going out now in leggings and a jumper with no make up on. Shamefully, I also worry less about using my mobility aids in public. When I was heavier, I put off using a walking stick for ages and would only use it if I absolutely had to because I was scared people would think I needed it because I was fat. Same with my blue badge because I could see the looks I got when I got out of the car - early 30s with nothing visible to explain my badge other than my weight 😔a sad comment on our society…

cloppyklip · 28/01/2024 20:32

I've been on Wegovy for 13 weeks (3 over Christmas I didn't take it so technically 10 weeks) and I've lots 13lb so not massive amounts each week but slow and steady, I'm not trying to do any kind of diet I'm just following my appetite and in turn eating much smaller portions and skipping a meal if I don't feel hungry.

I just checked my weighing scales app and the graph of my weight loss since start of November is quite nice to look at! You can see it's definitely working! I'm about to start my second week of 1mg.

ShrinkingTeacher · 28/01/2024 22:03

Hi everyone. I'm on my final week of 0.5mg.

Is anyone on here worried about excess loose skin? I'm really scared about it all.

I've got a lot of weight to lose. I've lost 20lbs in 7 weeks. I'm just really worried about having lots of loose skin.

Is there anything I can do to try and minimise this?

Thanks ladies! Glad I found this thread

Radish12 · 29/01/2024 07:02

@ShrinkingTeacher - I'm 5'11" so even though I have about 5st to lose, that only equates to about two dress sizes on me, so I'm hoping to get away with it 😬

Some people say that strength work and toning helps to a degree, and I believe a lot of depends on genetics. I know that when I see people on social media talking about it though, they always say they'd rather be living with the excess skin than the excess weight.

That graph is looking so good @cloppyklip! I've been taking the same approach to diet as you thus far, but I do want to start adding in lots more fruit and veg to build the habit before I have to go it alone.

Happy Monday everyone, hope you have better weather than here (that's my lunchtime walk out the window 🙄).

I an 5'11''. I started at 17 stone and was size 18/20. I'm now 15 stone 2lbs (4 weeks in) and comfortably a size 16. I would like to get to 13 stone when I should be a 12.

tinker2190 · 29/01/2024 08:38

I took my first dose Saturday. I suffer with migraines and have had a horrific one this morning. I know headaches are a side effect but has anyone noticed an increase in migraines.

I'm only on 0.25 and I know they say it takes time to build up in the system but I feel nauseous already

Radish12 · 29/01/2024 10:43

@Tailfeather That's an amazing loss for four weeks, well done! I'm a solid 16 now at 14st 4, I'd have to get down to 10-11 stone to be a 12 though! I think I have big bones 🤔

I don't suffer with migraines @tinker2190 so can't really say. My main side effect is a blocked nose which sounds quite silly but it's actually quite debilitating not being able to breathe all the time - it makes me not able to think straight. I had it on Saxenda as well and it did clear when I came off that so I'm dealing with it with steroid sprays and Sudafed and sort of powering through knowing that it won't be forever.

Definitely starting to feel the nausea of the 1.0 dose now, but I find it does ease when I eat a small amount.

I've had a migraine every week since starting. I'm about to give up but have contacted my doctor for advice before I do.

Thank you for all your comments, I think I'm going to go for it! Even 1lb a week is going in the right direction, right?

(I've clicked on 'thanks' on the posts that were aimed at me, rather than replying to everyone individually, I'm presuming that's like a FB 'like' so you know I've read your post and appreciated it!)

Ooos!!! That was meant to be 14 weeks!!! Not 4! Although I do know some lose that quickly!

amusedbush · 29/01/2024 11:53

I took my second dose of 1.7mg on Friday morning and the acid reflux is a killer but I have just realised that all recent bouts of constipation coincide with when I've been taking esomeprazole. A quick google shows that this is a common side effect so I'm making do with Gaviscon and Rennies 😩

@ShrinkingTeacher I've read that it can take up to two years for loose skin to settle but other than waiting and seeing, there's not a huge amount that can be done. It depends on things like genetics, age and how long a person has been overweight. Exercise and drink plenty of water but be prepared for it not to shrink fully.

I have lost and and regained stones in weight over the past 20 years and most of my body is covered in old stretch marks that make my skin look like crepe paper. Even though my boobs are still a 34GG, they have lost all volume at the top so they look like burst balloons. Most upsettingly, I've realised that I have classic signs of lipoedema, which means my disproportionately large, baggy thighs and upper arms are never, ever going to look better. If I won the lottery, I'd have everything from the neck down nipped and tucked 😢

Striving4Better · 29/01/2024 16:10

End of second week (third shot today) and I've lost one pound. I'm happy with that. Comes on top of 4lbs on the first week. This is the point that I was at THREE TIMES in 2023! Only for work stress to get too much and the weight to go back on again. Hopefully Wegovy will make sure it won't happen this time.

In June 2022, MyFitnessPal tells me I was a stone and a half heavier - after I let a doctor talk me into taking pills which caused me to put on 2.5 stone in three months. When I stopped taking them, that half a stone disappeared. I worked to drop another half, but anything beyond that point wouldn't shift without it coming back. This is why I'm taking this injection. Drugs got me into this place and hopefully they will get me out of it. Prior to those pills, I was only overweight and struggling as oppose to obese and struggling.

I've adapted my food to have more easier digestable stuff this week. So the stir fry beef strips of the first week (were in fridge, had to be eaten) are out. I've had a lot of eggs, also some chicken and my red meat dishes were made with mince.

Difficult to comment on side effects this week. Headache, a bit of constipation, fatugue and nausea came and went, but I'm having a thing with my HRT at the moment, so could be related to that. Headaches could also be regular tension headaches/migraines which I get anyway. Plus, it's Januart, loads of people are tired anyway.

I hope everyone else is doing well. I love to read about your experiences on these threads.

I had better start my own tracking, as I finally lost a bit so here goes.

SW (12 Jan): 201.8

3lbs in just over two weeks is not bad - and certainly makes me feel better. I have also had more energy over the weekend, and I did a yoga class on Saturday and went and did a workout on Sunday. But I was so hungry this morning before breakfast (4 days after my shot) that I had to watch that I was not eating too much and really manage it.

SofieM0 · 30/01/2024 07:29
