@PurpleFlower1983
👏on the stone boundary!! I’m hoping for one this week!

@spamm welcome! Stick to the plan and go up doses as recommended. Somewhere it will kick in with more gusto but as you say, we’re all different. There was a good post I copied from facebook that really helped with this, I’ll tag you if I can find. That’s is M works like Wegovy of course but I’m sure it’s similar. And a consistent 1lb a week on average seems poor to us fad dieters but it’s mega when you focus on the word consistent! I think most seem to be losing weight and keeping it off for the first time ever even if it’s slow. Slow seems to be good :)

SofieM0 · 26/01/2024 03:07

@spamm
copied from facebook. If dosing works the same I’m not sure for you and also maybe the cost is different? But hopefully useful!

“Unfortunately however much it is said that these drugs are not a magic potion, people are still expecting instant weight loss and are unhappy that after 1 month “it hasn’t worked” for them.

  1. This is a long haul medication, so approach it with that mindset. That means you need to plan financially to be on it for a year at least, and you need to understand that you may not lose any weight in the early part of that year. Approaching it with the mindset of “I’ll take it for 2 months and lose the weight then come off” is going to end in disappointment for you. If after 6 months you haven’t lost 1lb then that’s an assessment worth making. Not after 2 weeks or 1 month.
  1. The lowest doses are not therapeutic weight loss doses. Yes, some people are lucky and have lost weight on 0.25. Most people won’t lose noticeable amounts of weight at the lowest doses. Even 1mg is not the optimal dose. It is designed intentionally to be gradually increased leading to (greater) weight loss. Weight loss at 0.25 has never been promised.
  1. Your body is not the same as someone else’s so don’t compare or you will end up disappointed!
  1. A lot of people are metabolically unhealthy, whether you realise it or not. Years of bad diet, sugar laden diets and yoyo dieting has a very negative impact on your metabolic health. A lot of people are insulin resistant without realising it. And for many people that is the reason you have struggled to lose weight. Semaglutide is going to help with that, but it is going to take time!
  1. If you have made no active changes alongside taking these medications, you shouldn’t be surprised if you’re not seeing any/enough change. Work with it, support it and put a bit of effort in and results will come.
  1. Ultimately, be patient!”

I can't seem to add a screenshot, but I just got an email saying while there are higher doses than 1mg, most people have excellent results on 1mg and lower, so then will be sending me 1mg, not 1.7mg. I don't know if this is a result of side effects being reported or lack of stock!

Shock from what stockist?

FattyPattyBumBum · 26/01/2024 09:00

@Tailfeather I thought you ordered the 1mg pen? So are they just reassuring that you can still have weightloss on this dose?

Tailfeather · 23/01/2024 07:32

@SofieM0 Whoop! Well done!

Great that you haven't had any bad side effects on 1.7mg. I chickened out last night and ordered another 1mg pen.

?

I think it was a standard email to everyone on 1mg as my friend at work got it too.

Tailfeather · 26/01/2024 09:33

I was planning on going up to 1.7 nect month, but maybe in stages - 1.35 then 1.7.

Tailfeather · 26/01/2024 09:34

So you'll be billed less as you're only getting 1mg?

Yes, I'm not worried as wanted to stay on 1mg for at least another month. Was just interested to see if their advice is about side effects or supply! I will ask them.

Radish12 · 26/01/2024 14:09

Hi all, can I join you? I was always very slim but developed a bit of a BED to cope with a stressful job about ten years ago. Ongoing stresses meant I never got out of the cycle and finally landed in the ‘obese’ category in 2022.

I used Saxenda for about six months last year and lost a stone and a half, but it did leave me feeling rough – exhausted and huge headaches – and when I came off it due to supply issues, I felt so hopeless about everything that I spiralled a bit and put 8lbs back on.

When Wegovy became available through Boots I thought OK it’s do or die, and started 8 weeks ago. It didn’t feel like the 0.25 dose did much for me, and it coincided with the Christmas period so I’ve probably not lost ‘much’ for 8 weeks, but it meant I hit the ground running on the 0.5 dose in January and I’m looking like reaching my lowest Saxenda-weight again tomorrow (Saturday is my official weigh day but I've been jumping on the scales every morning).

I move up to 1.0 tomorrow too, and feeling a bit apprehensive after reading some comments on here as my side effects on Wegovy have been pretty minimal so far, but I shall grit my teeth and go with it.

22lbs til I’m back in the healthy weight category, but I’d like to lose 47lbs ideally – not sure how feasible this is now I’m over 40 though!

amusedbush · 26/01/2024 14:19

Hi @Radish12 , welcome!

I tried Saxenda for a few weeks in 2022 but it made me feel rough, too. Really shaky and it sent my heart rate haywire, which is what made me stop taking it (I have POTS so my heart rate is erratic at the best of times). Thankfully, Wegovy has been a much, much smoother ride for me!

You have also just prompted me to figure out how far I am from a healthy BMI and I'm stunned - only 25lbs to go! But my goal weight is 44lbs away, so very similar stats to yours.

Radish12 · 26/01/2024 14:34

Ooh @amusedbush very similar! And it doesn't feel a million miles away anymore either, like I feel I can chip away at it consistently now.

Love your name btw! 😁

spamm · 26/01/2024 16:56

Thanks @SofieM0 - that is exactly what I have been reading and why I am working to stay on track. I know I am insulin resistant - it started with gestational diabetes, and then T2D, and the issues run in the family on my father's side - and I have struggled for a long time with weight. I eat too much and then my blood sugar surges mean that I experience "hunger" even though my body does not need the food. So I am hoping that the medication will help change the pattern of overeating. I took my 3rd shot this morning, so I am asking my Dr to move me to the 5.0 shot for next month. I have my first check in with her on 14 Feb as well, so we can discuss how I am doing.

@PurpleFlower1983 - well done on your milestone! 👏

Striving4Better · 26/01/2024 19:29

What sorcery is this?

Last night I ate a healthy meal before I went to the pub - and I didn't so much as crave all the pub food everyone else was having! In fact, I watched someone eat a burger and I thought it was rather gross. I didn't order alcohol, either. I had a pot of tea.

I had tried this tactic before, pre Wegovy, and it didn't work. I ate before the pub, but then still wanted all the pub food. I think I may have ordered some garlic bread and even a dessert on that occasion! Last night, I saw the desserts other people had ordered and they looked nice, but I didn't mind not having one.

Actually, it wasn't a deliberate tactic. I had checked the pub menu online ahead of time and found a couple of small things I could order, and that was my intension. But I had been eating 5-6pm at home all week, whereas we were meeting at 7pm. I felt a bit wobbly at about 5.30 and decided I should eat something before seeing if I was up for going out. Food did the trick, I went out and my reaction to pub food was as described above.

For reference, I am on my second week of 0.25. This was Thursday evening and I injected Monday morning.

Radish12 · 27/01/2024 09:38

It blows your mind doesn't it @Striving4Better ?! I went out for a Chinese a couple of weeks ago and it was delicious, but I stopped eating when I was full (about halfway through) and just didn't feel any compulsion to finish the plate. It must be how people with a normal mindset around food must feel. I just really hope that I build in enough good habits that I can count myself amongst them when I come off Wegovy.

Weigh day today and it's 2lbs off this week for me - I'm really pleased as I have my period, hoping I might be able to do a bit extra this week if I up my water intake to flush myself out a bit (that sounds horrible). I think someone mentioned upthread about not feeling as thirsty and I agree - I'm not normally a great water drinker but I do guzzle coffee, and now I'm finding I take a few sips and the rest is left to go cold. Can't be good for me so going to make a conscious effort on that score this week. Also going up to a 1.0 dose this evening so wish me luck!

Happy weekend :)

DontUseYourNose · 27/01/2024 10:34

Hi all.

Just wondering has anyone had issues with headaches or migraines? I've been struggling with them since starting a month ago. I thought it might be hydration but I've upped my water and electrolytes and stopped drinking alcohol and if anything they've gotten worse! I was hoping a few weeks in things would have settled.

I feel like I'll have to stop if they don't improve.

Exactly how I felt when it kicked in. Absolute sorcery! I can only assume that’s close to how my naturally skinny friends feel normally. And actually it made me so much happier about the whole concept - because we should feel full after a meal and not desperate to keep stuffing food in. Kind of reassured me that there’s something “wrong” with how I process food normally.

Mookie81 · 27/01/2024 11:57

Hi all x
This morning was the start of the second lot of 1ml.
Lost 2 pds this week, now 12 st 11pds.
That means I've lost 8 pds in 4 weeks of the 1ml. Happy with that, so staying on it until the weight loss slows down.

amusedbush · 27/01/2024 12:12

I can't believe I have been on Wegovy for 12 weeks already. I can't believe how easy it is to lose weight and have a healthy relationship with food when your metabolism/hormones/lizard brain aren't screaming for sugar and salt and fat every moment of the day. I have the same feeling of "you're telling me I could have felt like this all along??" I experienced when I started taking ADHD medication.

I lost another 3lbs this week so that's 32lbs off with Wegovy and I'm just 2lbs away from a total loss of 6 stone (84lbs/38kg) from my highest weight in 2021.

DH showed me some photos from around that time and I don't recognise myself. Obviously I knew how much I weighed and I knew I was too heavy but I never saw myself as that big when I looked in the mirror. This morning I tried on a size 14 top and I had to swap it for a 12. I tried on a coat in size small (as it was all they had left) and it was too snug but it zipped up!

It feels surreal. Everyone in my family is fat and on a perma-diet. I have been fat since I was 12. I have lost weight before but the effort it took was nothing short of herculean and I always gained it back in the blink of an eye - with added interest. I thought being thin just wasn't for me and I'd almost made my peace with the fact that I'd never get there.

LemonKitten · 28/01/2024 02:40

I weigh 16st 2lb, have just looked at a site called Voy, they estimate I would lose 1st 9lbs in 6 months. That's about 1lb a week isn't it? It doesn't seem great for £200 odd a month.

Are they just being pessimistic? Has anyone on this thread started at a similar weight to me please?

I'm not expecting miracles, but have to say I was a bit disappointed.

AhBiscuits · 28/01/2024 06:21

I'm a bit lighter than you you @LemonKitten and I've lost 20lbs in 10 weeks so far, so averaging exactly 2lbs a week. I think most people lose faster than that estimate.
