I think the point with the checks is that you could just lie. I know someone on Wegovy who definitely wasn't obese when she started, but put down a high BMI in order to get it.

OhpoorMe · 17/01/2024 08:13

Well I just suddenly and randomly vomited while getting ready for work 🙄 I moved up to 1mg on Saturday and thought it had been plain sailing.

Not sure if I can leave the house now for work in case it happens again on the bus!!

liz4change · 17/01/2024 08:53

@Tailfeather absolutely get that and don't condone it- but in the absence of consistent guidelines, especially on BMI thresholds and when supply was spotty some were in that position with BMIs in the high 20s.

FattyPattyBumBum · 17/01/2024 08:55

@OhpoorMe that sucks! Hope it is a one-off 💐

Forgottenpassword53 · 17/01/2024 08:57

I know how you feel. I have sudden sickness. Took my 4th 0.5 injection on Friday and my constant nausea has come back! I only had it for the first 8 days, so am bewildered why now.

Weirdly I've had no nausea, including today. Just suddenly vomited! I wonder if having an empty stomach makes it worse (like eg morning sickness) as I had very little food yesterday

FattyPattyBumBum · 17/01/2024 09:02

@liz4change @Tailfeather I understand what you are saying, before wegovy came available I used to read the ozempic threads and there were definitely people on there going after it without an obese BMI, because they would say things like 'i have a stone to lose'...but it wasn't always clear if that was their actual starting point or they had switched from some other supplier mid loss...must admit it did make me wonder how long Boots would keep supplying the doses for once I was no longer obese (which I'm not now 😊) but again surely this could apply to other weightloss injections eg Saxenda not just wegovy (I know ozempic has not been approved for weight loss in UK)

It’s also really inconsistent. I ordered my first two pens from Zava and Asda (who prescribe via Zava) and I had to send them a full length photo of myself taken that day and a photo of my scales showing my weight.

I have ordered all subsequent pens from Pharmacy2U and the doctor did ask a few additional questions the first time but there have been no other checks.

OhpoorMe · 17/01/2024 19:21

Even the photo of the scales you could hold something heavy. Some padding under your clothes for a picture!

OhpoorMe · 17/01/2024 21:33

Anyone who's been on a while found it's affected their thirst levels? I'm really dehydrated but struggling to make myself drink which is unusual for me.

TryAgainWithFeeling · 17/01/2024 23:20

Congratulations to everyone who is doing well on it!

I was on 1 but couldn’t hack the side effects. Went down to 0.5 for a few weeks with no side effects (but also little if any effect!), just gone up to 0.75 to see how I get on with it. I’ve enough in this pen to do another dose of 0.75 then two of 1mg, if I’m still struggling with side effects at the end of this pen I won’t be ordering another, can’t justify the cost.

Im paranoid about nausea at the moment as the kids have had a horrific vomiting bug that I have so far escaped!

I am finding keeping my drinking up fairly easy - I got a Stanley cup for Christmas, so I fill that twice a day - once with a flavoured electrolyte tablet.

Me. I'm usually drink a lot of water anyway, but I'm having to drink at least 3l a day and even that doesn't satisfy my thirst.

I moved up to 1.7mg this morning and… bloody hell. This dose is no joke.

0.25 didn’t affect me, 0.5 wore off quickly, and 1mg was great but it look time to really get going. Today though, 1.7 kicked in within a few hours. I had to take an anti-sickness tablet for the nausea and I have only eaten 800 calories but I’m full. This is WILD 😳

FattyPattyBumBum · 19/01/2024 18:58

@amusedbush sounds awful, after how I've been I had already decided not to move up, but definitely not after what you've written 💐

amusedbush · 19/01/2024 19:04

@FattyPattyBumBum

I actually don’t feel as rough as I expected to, but then I seem to be a lot less responsive to the medication than most people. I think you’ve made the right decision though - 1.7 is not for anyone who has suffered side effects on the lower doses!

Goneistheday · 19/01/2024 20:43

Weighed myself this morning and I've lost another pound, so that's exactly a stone and a half now.

I went out for lunch with my friend today. We'd just ordered our food when the school rang to say she needed to pick up her kid. When the food came out, she finished as quickly as she could and left. I still had most of my toastie left but could only manage half of it. Now what I would normally do, is force myself to eat it because I've paid for it and don't want to waste food... Then feel sick the rest of the day.

I made the decision not to finish it just for the sake of it and I feel weirdly proud of myself 🤣 and I'm only just getting hungry now at nearly 9pm. Still not used to this but I'm still very much enjoying the lack of food noise!

Oh no!! I felt pretty terrible after my first 1mg. I think I'm going to do an extra month on 1mg and then go up. It does seem like a big jump!

SofieM0 · 20/01/2024 09:12

@amusedbush thanks for sharing. I’m due to move up to 1.7mg on Monday.
I have been on 1mg for 6 weeks now with no negative side effects but the positive ones have worn off this week (like I’m on nothing). I was thinking of not moving up but after this week I’m going to as haven’t stopped eating!

I will let you know how it goes!

@Tailfeather It is a real jump so if/when you decide to move up, it might be worth counting the clicks to 1.3mg for the first dose. The little bit left over can be tacked on to a later dose, once you've levelled out.

@SofieM0 Eek, good luck with it! I'm looking forward to hearing how you get on.

Oof sounds rough. Next week will be first 1.7, wondering whether to move up or stay ar 1ml?
Lost 2 pds this week, now 12st 13pds, lost 6 pds on 1ml. Is that a good enough loss on that dosage? Opnions anyone?

DontUseYourNose · 20/01/2024 13:31

I love reading about all your progress!

I'm going into week 3 today.

Week 1 - lost 3lb
Week 2 - lost 3.5lb

I've been counting calories (not terribly strictly but just knowing the ballpark).

I didn't expect to lose interest in alcohol! I had a glass last night but it was a chore which is an issue I've literally never had.

I've had the odd sweet thing and some less than healthy food when I was out but other than that I've eaten well.

BMI is down from 30.3 to 29.3 so my brief foray into obesity is over!

genesis92 · 20/01/2024 15:47

I'm getting mine from Asda pharmacy and was wondering if anyone knew what happens when you get below BMI 30?

Because I know the stipulation is that you need to have BMI of 30 or above to qualify, however I started at 31 so won't be long till I'm under 30. Will Asda still let me carry on taking it if I'm honest about my weight?

There's quite a conversation about this up thread, about 25 posts back, which can help.

You can't be given an initial prescription for Wegovy unless you meet the BMI criteria but once you start treatment, you can stay on it to your goal weight and beyond. I found this on the Zava website (Zava provides the Online Doctor service for Asda):

"Wegovy (semaglutide) is approved in the UK for long-term weight loss treatment. So, you can take Wegovy for as long as it is beneficial for weight loss and isn’t causing unbearable side effects."

The NICE guidelines recommend a maximum of two years but I'm not sure if that only applies to NHS prescriptions, and that recommendation is already being challenged. Obesity is a chronic condition that changes a person's metabolic function and it has been proven that a previously-fat body will fight like hell to get back to its old weight. Apparently it can take 2+ years of maintaining a lower weight to reset this, so I think it is shortsighted to recommend such a short time limit if reversing the risks of obesity is the objective.
