Just curious, surely if you're limiting caliries, you'll lose weight anyway so how can you tell if the weight loss is due to the Wegovy or just normal dieting?

Meadowdog · 13/11/2023 13:52

Thank you so much @Tailfeather and @amusedbush - that's great advice. I'll start ASAP.

It makes it much easier to reduce calories as you don't feel hungry, so easier to do longterm without falling off the wagon/binging/giving up.

Wegovy doesn't do anything to make you lose weight. It has no fat-burning properties, it just controls your blood sugar and slows digestion, which makes you feel full. That, in turn, helps you to restrict caloric intake because you don't feel hungry.

All weight loss is due to calorie restriction but willpower is finite, so it's easier and more sustainable with Wegovy because it stops the fixation on food.

I know I keep banging this drum but seriously, I can't recommend electrolytes enough if you're worried about feeling rough. I have only been sick once since I started and it was the one day I hadn't taken mine.

I bought a sample pack of flavoured hydration powders from Amazon in preparation for starting and I'm so impressed, I ordered a big pack of them last night. Whenever I get that hungover, low blood sugar feeling (usually late afternoon), I mix up a hydration drink and feel better within minutes.

Turmerictolly · 13/11/2023 14:15

Ah, I see, thank you for the information (as you can see, I don't know much about it).

regularmumnotacoolmum · 13/11/2023 17:18

Feeling rather rough today.... I woke up at 5am with awful stomach cramps followed by diarrhoea. Yesterday I ate one slice of pizza in the day which granted isn't great but surely can't be the cause of such awful side effects? I've been eating relatively well in terms of food choices and know this medication suppresses appetite rather than creating intolerances so I'm struggling to figure out what the trigger is. I'm also finding fatigue a struggle this week, I had a 3 hour nap with my toddler today 😬 Unsure what I'm going to do when I return to work next week! Despite the side effects I'm really enjoying the consistent losses. I started at 13st 8 and when I weighed today I was just under 13st 2lbs.

SofieM0 · 13/11/2023 17:22

Start 0.5 dose tonight.
maintained weight again for 4th week - no loss but have had another long weekend away so again wasn’t expecting a loss.
looking forward to 3/4 quiet weekends and being on 0.5 to get me into the next stone bracket!

I did have lots more alcohol this weekend but bar some acidity and feeling nauseous, no major issues. Won’t be rushing to do it again though as it did make me eat more too :(

Just ordering electrolytes now @amusedbush just in case!

221BBakerSt · 13/11/2023 17:56

Today’s food: porridge, prunes and quark, lentil soup, and frozen berries with spoon of skyr. Really not hungry…was not expecting that at 0.25 but not complaining! Drinking plenty, am actually having a cup of hot water instead of a cup of tea at times and it’s quite warming and very different to a glass of iced water.

amusedbush · 13/11/2023 19:15

@SofieM0 let me know how you get on with them! My bigger pack arrived this evening so I’m set for the next few weeks, ready to convert more people with my electrolyte evangelism 😅

I definitely find that high fat and/ or ‘complex’ meals cause diarrhoea- even just a little of the food! So I am eating simpler meals and it’s fine. It has settled down though over the weeks and I have had the odd slice of pizza etc recently (6 weeks in). Good luck,

Salts are important when you aren't eating a lot and drinking loads of water. I've always sworn by a veg stock cube in a mug with boiling water. I recently bought a tub of Tom Yum powder from the Chinese supermarket. A mug of that is 6 calories and deliciously salty and spicy.

MrsWimpy · 13/11/2023 22:20

Just checking in. Did my third .25 today. No side effects as such but I feel it if I over eat or try to drink more than a glass of wine.

I've lost around 6lbs so far which I'm really happy with. I'm very short so even small losses make a difference.

I just wish it wasn't so expensive!

I've managed to order Wegovy from Boots! They've emailed to say it might be 5 days before I can pick it up. I'm excited to get started but...I have a 2 week work trip starting the last week of November. It's going to be exhausting anyway and I'm worried about side effects from Wegovy compounding that. What do you think I should do please - start before or after the trip?

Mine took about 7 days despite saying 5 days .

I'm
Getting worried. I started a few weeks ago and went up to 0.5 two injections ago. During this time I've had two bouts of horrific explosive diarrhoea. I'm in the middle of day 2 of the second episode. I had a 0.5 injection Saturday by Monday lunch an hour after eating an M&S hoisin duck wrap I started horrific sulphur burps then last night horrific stomach cramps and I've had about 16 runs to the loo. I ate a bit of bread one hour ago (24 h after last eating) and within an hour more cramps and more diarrhoea. I've just taken two Imodium. How can I be sure this is the jab and not say food poisoning?

SofieM0 · 14/11/2023 17:08

I’m not sure if you can be sure? Has it happened consistently x days after the jab? Maybe take notes on symptoms to see if you can monitor?

I'm still having opposite problems with going to the loo so sorry I can’t be more helpful.

I took first 0.5 last night. A definite change for me from the 0.25. I haven’t had any good noise at all today and haven’t been hungry. I’ve just eaten dinner and I’m stuffed. Had much less than usual and had to stop as felt nauseous. This is new to me and first time I feel like I’ve felt it working. Definitely put me off eating anymore too. Hoping for better loss this week!

whenlifegivesyou · 14/11/2023 19:00

@SofieM0 oh yes I get mostly constipated with this stuff and have had to take laxatives at times though these two episodes in no way can be attributed to those as I hadn't taken any. It seems to me that since starting on ozempic I've been battling with my GI tract. It's exhausting and super stressful I'm due at work tomorrow- so in two days I've eaten barely a thing. I'm praying I'll be ok tomorrow...

SofieM0 · 14/11/2023 21:15

@whenlifegivesyou yes it sounds familiar from other groups I’m on. One last described it as steering a sensitive boat and too quickly and harshly oversteering to correct course. So taking lax to unblock but the full effect is catching up much later and then people are having to take Imodium and then stuck in a cycle. Certainly for her she had become much more sensitive so that analogy made sense.

im feeling more and more crap as the day has gone on, just over 24 hours since moving up a dose. I’ll be interested to see if other new side effects appear such as diarrhoea.

i hope you feel more stable tomorrow!

whenlifegivesyou · 15/11/2023 07:35

@SofieM0 I've lost 3lb in two days! This morning I've eaten porridge the first real food since Monday lunchtime. I've not run to the loo yet and am going to work so 🤞😬 mild stomach cramps though-I've Imodium in my pocket

SofieM0 · 15/11/2023 08:33

@whenlifegivesyou wishing you all the best!! I hope it’s settled down now and you get back on track.

I woke up at 4am feeling sick and I nearly passed out 😵. Hoping it calms down after a day or so. Luckily the electrolytes had arrived so I gulped a glass back and feel fine now. I’m going to change course today and eat very little but often to see how that goes!

Tailfeather · 15/11/2023 08:52

@SofieM0 I'm 60 hours on from taking my first 0.5 and feeling it for the first time. A bit queasy and burpy. Delightful!!

Disappointedsofa · 15/11/2023 09:43

Just wondering has anyone had itchy skin since being on Wegovy? I'm now on 0.5 dose and am getting a really itchy torso on both sides of where my ribs are. So bizarre

I haven't but I have seen people mention similar online. Do you inject into your stomach? I saw people saying their legs were really itchy after injecting into their thigh.

AhBiscuits · 15/11/2023 12:26

48hrs after my first dose and I was awoken by some stomach cramps and gurgling noises. Diarrhoea lasted about an hour and fine since. I feel reasonably hungry today but sticking to my planned meals.

SofieM0 · 15/11/2023 13:17

@Tailfeather ah yes I forgot you’re just ahead of me! It was weird to feel the effects properly, I was like ahh this is what’s supposed to happen haha
