@TryAgainWithFeeling Do you have a link to the podcast please? I just tried to find it, but couldn't. X

I listened to the Zoe podcast episode on ozempic/Wegovy today, definitely worth a listen. One of the points was that it’s important to find the dose that works for the individual, so @regularmumnotacoolmum I’d say don’t go up unless you’re ready.

I’ve started 0.5 now, and was pleasantly surprised that my nausea side effects have largely gone away! On 0,25 I was feeling pretty rough the day after injection, on 0.5 I’m not.

Also feeling like it’s starting to kick in. I just feel satisfied by an average meal. Whereas normally I could eat more or less constantly - three courses might fill me up, but half an hour later I’d snack again. Now, I just feel pleasantly satisfied. It’s very strange, but I can only assume this is how many naturally slim people feel! It makes me really feel like taking this was the right decision - it’s becoming so obvious that I don’t have the naturally full hormonal feedback loop.

Those feeling hungry late evening - could it be habit, boredom, etc rather than real hunger? Is it worth distraction activities, bubble bath etc, to see if it passes?

Thank you. Do you have a link to the podcast at all? I have tried to find it and couldn't.

I'm so pleased to hear your symptoms have eased with the higher dose. I may just stick with the 0.25 for another 4 weeks and see how we go. I go back to full time work in a fortnight so don't want to be super tired either.

@Tailfeather @regularmumnotacoolmum Heres the podcast - if you click the link that says “todays episode” part way down it’ll link to where to listen. Or there’s a transcript here.

Thanks for posting this, it's really helped me get to grips with how I'm going to approach this. Basically like any other time I've tried to lose weight, switch to light healthy food. Hopefully the difference will be that the need for iron willpower will be absent.

My first pen arrives today but I'm actually starting Monday. DH's birthday and we have a big weekend planned. I don't want to risk ruining it if I'm one of those with bad side effects.

TryAgainWithFeeling · 09/11/2023 10:15

@AhBiscuits I think that’s exactly it. You still need to put the effort in, make good food choices, but the medication should make that easier. It does take a while to kick in for most people, I think you need to have a mindset of trying it for six months or so, I’ve seen lots of people disappointed that they didn’t see any effects in week one, but that’s normal!

regularmumnotacoolmum · 09/11/2023 11:18

I forgot to ask yesterday whether anybody has noticed a difference in their periods? I've been bleeding for the last 2 weeks with no sign of stopping. This isn't normal for me.

I'm on the contraceptive injection so I don't get periods but losing fat very often affects menstrual cycles.

Oestrogen is stored in fat cells and when they break down, the oestrogen gets released into your body and it can knock your cycle off-kilter (and can increase fertility). Obviously see a GP if you're concerned though ❤

I have just seen that Mounjaro has been approved for weight loss in the US and UK, so that should help with Wegovy supply issues when it's finally available. It's also cheaper (rumoured to start around £119) so I wonder if it will force competitor prices down.

A lot of people on the Wegovy subreddit previously used Mounjaro but had to change medication due to US health insurance red tape, and the consensus seems to be that it causes fewer side effects and silences "food noise" more effectively than Wegovy.

SofieM0 · 09/11/2023 17:16

@regularmumnotacoolmum
yes to the periods. I am regular to the day (usually the same time too). And this month I was a day early and lasted 2 days longer.

it has to be Wegovy it’s the only thing that’s been different and I’ve been regular for life.

slightly worrying for me as I’m a family planner due to my regularity. So no sex for me this month lol 😂

221BBakerSt · 09/11/2023 20:49

Can I join you guys? My first lot should arrive tomorrow. I’m nervous and also sad - feel I failed myself not managing to stop piling weight on these last couple of years. I lost 10 stone a decade ago, I do know how to, I just can’t seem to on my own anymore. I’m incredibly disordered around food.
Any tips for a complete newbie? I thought I’d get gaviscon in and also lots of sparkling water as my treat.

Just listened to the whole thing. Brilliant! Thanks so much for sharing!

regularmumnotacoolmum · 10/11/2023 01:55

Thanks @SofieM0 @amusedbush I'm glad it's just a Wegovy side effect. I have the mirena coil and had just got to the point where my periods had stopped and I was happy to not have to deal with them lol. The price we pay for weight loss! I hope it stops soon.

Tomorrow I will take my week 3 dose so I managed a healthy amount of food today.... a grilled chicken breast fillet with a few chips this evening, 2 scrambled eggs for breakfast and 1 cup of tea and coffee. How much food are you able to tolerate on a typical day? X

Mookie81 · 10/11/2023 07:59

Almost finished week 1.
Food noise started creeping in yesterday, had a small twix. But on my period so that will be some of it.
Dose 2 of 0.25 tomorrow and first weigh in.

amusedbush · 10/11/2023 15:05

Week one finished and today has been a mixed bag. I lost 3.8lbs, which I'm happy about, seeing as I have been counting calories without any appetite suppression from the medication yet. It's pretty miserable and reminds me why I can never sustain weight loss - I'm hungry and thinking about food constantly!

I took my second 0.25 dose around 9am today and I just need to push through until the appetite suppression kicks in.

Nausea got me for the first time, too. I was sick early this morning but felt better after I took an antiemetic. Yesterday I definitely didn't drink enough and it was the first day I skipped my electrolyte drink so I'm putting it down to that.

Mookie81 · 11/11/2023 10:51

2nd injection done this morning.
4pds lost this week, with no exercise and a curry so very happy.

221BBakerSt · 12/11/2023 10:10

Started today, and have a cold developing which is bad timing. Tomorrow I plan to do a food shop for prunes, gaviscon, lots of salad veg and stir fry veg.

Starlightstarbright2 · 12/11/2023 13:46

Just gone 4 week weigh in lost 10.5 lbs .. very happy with that .

Kickstartplease · 12/11/2023 13:54

For me it is week since I weighed, but I didn't actually do the injection until the Tuesday - so not sure when to weigh again & don't want to be disappointed.
For me it's has been about not snacking & I actually went out for a meal but just made as healthy choices as possible.

flouncymcflouncerson · 12/11/2023 21:39

I’ve been on holiday this weekend and won’t be back till tomorrow. I’m feeling very flabby and expect I’ve gained weight with eating out and drinking. Eating past where I normally would cos I want to have a three course meal etc.

will need to get back on the wagon! And quickly!

I've managed to order Wegovy from Boots! They've emailed to say it might be 5 days before I can pick it up. I'm excited to get started but...I have a 2 week work trip starting the last week of November. It's going to be exhausting anyway and I'm worried about side effects from Wegovy compounding that. What do you think I should do please - start before or after the trip?

amusedbush · 13/11/2023 09:25

Morning! I hope everyone is well, especially if you are also being battered by Storm Debi today. The drive to the office this morning was... exhilarating 😳

It has been three days since my second 0.25 injection and - touch wood - no more nausea since Friday. Constipation is making itself known though, which is jarring as I have raging IBS and generally struggle with the opposite. Usually, eating pretty much anything is playing a game of 'Rhoea Roulette 😅 I bought some Lepicol powder and it's like drinking sawdust but hopefully it helps.

Still minimal appetite suppression on this dose and I'm finding afternoons difficult. That doesn't change whether I have breakfast or not, so I have started saving calories for later by skipping it. I'm not really hungry until 12pm but when it hits lunchtime, the food noise switches on and it's LOUD until about 7pm, then it goes away again. I spend all afternoon feeling like I could do a Very Hungry Caterpillar through my kitchen cupboards.

That's great news!

I think I would start as soon as possible but it really comes down to your personality. I don't trust myself and know if I waited until the trip was over, I'd look ahead at December think "well, no point starting now with XYZ coming up!"

It takes a few days to leave your system so if you manage to get it before this weekend, you could take the first dose and see how you feel. If you feel okay, then great. If you feel awful, don't take the next dose and you should feel better in time for your trip.

Anecdotally, most people have minimal side effects when injecting into the thigh and that has definitely been the case for me. A study was published on the efficacy of a similar medication and it found injecting into the stomach makes it slightly more effective than the thigh (because it's absorbed quicker) but causes worse side effects.

I wish I had started sooner. I kept putting it iff due to various events etc and feel absolutely fine so far. If anything I have more energy and am sleeping better!
