@EweCee Mine was breast cancer, but hormone-driven. I had a double mastectomy, chemo etc and am on medication to stop my ovaries and body from producing oestrogen. Yes, it ravages you. So pleased you are doing well. I'm awaiting tests to see if I have the genes that would mean I'm at higher rusk of ovarian too. But I wish they'd just take the whole lot out, to be honest. It worries me so much.

EweCee · 28/10/2023 23:24

@Tailfeather I hear you, it just sucks. I am thankfully negative for the BRCA gene mutation (and hope you are too!) But at the time of testing just wanted them to take any organs that could be cancer affected- had already had my ovaries, uterus, cervix and omentum taken out so just wanted my breasts gone too at that point. The chemo, surgery and then instant menopause is just brutal - most people don't get it and how badly it impacts your body. The 'just eat less, move more' brigade just don't understand that doesn't work in our situation. Wishing you well on this Wegovy journey...

had my 3rd jab last night weighed in today.. only lost 1Lb this week but 5 in total

Tailfeather · 29/10/2023 13:59

@Starlightstarbright2 Well done!!! 👏

Tailfeather · 29/10/2023 14:01

@regularmumnotacoolmum welcome!! It sounds like you were aware of what you were eating, so that's a good start!

Tailfeather · 29/10/2023 14:03

Day-after-the-night-before update. I had a glass of champagne and 4 glasses of red wine (I think! It kept getting topped up). I don't feel as fresh as a daisy today, but it was a late night, so to be expected. But I don't feel sick or anything. Back on the wagon now.

@regularmumnotacoolmum welcome!! It sounds like you were aware of what you were eating, so that's a good start!

Thank you! So far today, I've had a cup of coffee and one slice of toast. I woke up hungry but since I ate that at around 10am, I've not felt hunger since. 🤞🏽

SofieM0 · 29/10/2023 19:26

@Tailfeather so glad to hear you survived relatively unscathed from the wine! Thanks for testing that out, I’m feeling more confident about my upcoming plans and less fearful of the hangover.

MrsWimpy · 30/10/2023 08:58

Did my first dose this morning. I've used saxenda in the past and it worked well for me so I'm quietly hopeful.

I'm a bit scared that the far bigger dose on this one might be a bit of a shock to the system but let's see!

I've put on a stone since stopping saxenda a year ago but that's still a stone down from when I started.

It's so expensive though that I'm not sure it's going to be sustainable for long so I'm planning on 8 weeks until Christmas.

Starlightstarbright2 · 30/10/2023 11:55

I have Covid so not moving and constantly thirsty . I feel dreadful but going to see where I am when I feel better

Ashwater · 30/10/2023 12:07

Have requested my next pen from boots going to .5 from .25. Had an email to say they can’t process my order at the moment, I’m assuming stock issues again. All well and good being told consistent use is best…

SofieM0 · 30/10/2023 12:26

@Ashwater ive just put my next request in for 0.5 from 0.25 but only because they sent a message to say ‘order early to avoid stock issues’ so ill let you know if it goes through…

SofieM0 · 30/10/2023 12:26

And that was Boots!

amusedbush · 30/10/2023 14:05

Do you mind if I join you? My 0.25 pen has been shipped so I should be able to take my first dose tomorrow evening.

I hit my highest weight in 2021, then I started stimulant medication for ADHD in December 21. I lost 4 stone in about a year simply because my ADHD meds give me the dopamine I'd previously been chasing through binge eating.

Losing that took me back to my normal weight. When I say "normal", I don't mean healthy! I mean the weight I've been for most of my adult life, which is still roughly 50lbs (23kg) overweight. I have been a size 16/18 for so long, my body has grown way too comfortable at that point and it takes a herculean effort to get/stay any smaller Sad

I'm cautiously optimistic but I'm massively emetophobic, so I have already requested an antiemetic from my GP in case of nausea. She was actually the one to suggest the injections as there is pretty much nothing she could offer me but she said she has a few patients on Wegovy privately with "incredible" results.

SofieM0 · 30/10/2023 15:27

Same with Boots - messaged to say they currently don’t have stock of 0.5 today but will put prescription in later in week and try again!

SofieM0 · 30/10/2023 15:29

Welcome @amusedbush and good luck!

Meadowdog · 30/10/2023 19:34

@amusedbush if you wouldn't mind could you say what adhd medicine you take please and how you've found any side effects? I probably need to get on medication for mine again but I have high blood pressure and can't take ritalin anymore because of it.

I was on saxenda previously and lost weight, stopped taking it and gained it all back and more. So I'm looking to start wegovy but maybe adhd treatment would be better.

I take 60mg Elvanse for my ADHD and it has been life changing! The typical treatment plan is to start on Concerta/Ritalin but I’d heard it was quite a rough ride; I’m autistic and struggle enough with emotional dysregulation as it is so my consultant agreed to put me straight onto Elvanse 😅 the only side effect I had was dry mouth for the first couple of months. It decimated my appetite for a few months too but that has levelled out. I no longer binge eat but I definitely have a normal appetite level now.

Sadly there is a nationwide shortage so currently every month is a mad scramble to find my meds, which is stressful.

Meadowdog · 30/10/2023 20:28

Thank you so much, @amusedbush , I will look into it although it's a bit worrying there's a shortage of it in addition to the wegovy shortage! Wishing you the best of luck with both of them.

Edinburgal · 30/10/2023 21:13

Sorry if this is a stupid question but as you go up the dozes is it just the volume that increases rather than the strength? I have just finished my 0.25 pen and there is a small amount left. Shall i just take the lot?

amusedbush · 30/10/2023 21:23

Thank you @Meadowdog ❤️

I’ll be interested to hear how you get on!

Shewhobecamethesun · 30/10/2023 22:43

I shall be joining you tomorrow @amusedbush as my first 0.25 pen is also being delivered in the morning. I won't be in though so hoping Royal Mail leave it in my safe place and it doesn't require a signature.
I'm the biggest I've ever been. Always struggled with being on the chunkier side (size 14/16 my entire life really) but I did loose quite a bit in 2018. However I piled it all back on and more during lockdown 1.0 and just cannot shift it at all. I'm really hoping this helps. I also have adhd but I'm not medicated - I've seen too many people get stressed about the medication shortages that I figured I'm better off leaving it if I can, but that's interesting that it helped with your binge eating. Maybe it's something for me to look into as well.
Anyway, I'll be back in the morning with a starting weight, although I don't want to weigh weekly and prefer a monthly look to see how I'm doing

SofieM0 · 30/10/2023 22:47

@Edinburgal
These are the dosage strengths:

  • 0.25 milligrams of drug per 0.5 milliliters of solution (0.25 mg/0.5 mL)
  • 0.5 mg/0.5 mL
  • 1 mg/0.5 mL
  • 1.7 mg/0.75 mL
  • 2.4 mg/0.75 mL
SofieM0 · 30/10/2023 22:53

Actually that might be for the US single dose pens not the UK 4 in 1. So I might be wrong.
either way, if you have some left I’ve seen most people online taking it that midweek before they jump up to the next level or extending current level by a week with a new needle

Edinburgal · 30/10/2023 23:58

@SofieM0 thanks, i dont have spare needles so just took it all tonight. So far feel fine!
