Have put on just over half a stone in the last few months. BMI still within range, but am short so makes a difference in how I feel and how my clothes fit.
Would love to think I could get it off in a few weeks, but realistically in my 50’s, menopausal plus being greedy and loving wine, this won’t be happening 😩.
I have signed up to Nutracheck as so much more user friendly than MFP and am hoping will keep me accountable.
I find daily weighing helps and will be trying to log my weight on here….

SW 60.8 kg
CW 60.8 kg
TW 55 kg

Would love some support from others feeling similar!

I've started, gradually! Didn't really plan to begin til DC back at school next week but thought I'd go for a soft launch 😂 Food hasn't been perfect but it's a start, and I've exercised two days in a row. I'm aiming for 4-5x per week, 30m-1hr.

@BaconAndAvocado completely agree with trying to avoid anything too gimmicky that I won't be able to keep up with. I'm happy to have a slow loss if it doesn't feel completely unsustainable. I'm trying not to make excuses before I've even started but if I try to think 'i can never have X or do Y again' I'll fail before I even begin.

I've come across a few more helpful people on TikTok that talk about focusing on what you can do/add rather than what you need to give up and it's helping my mindset. My algorithm previously was just showing me things that didn't work and why SW etc is terrible.

I do keep looking back at the bamboozled thread in Chat, and am taking away from it:
More protein/veg/water
Less UPF
Exercise more than I currently am

So that's my strategy! I think sticking to "more of" and "less of" rather than only have/never have is making it feel a bit more doable. I don't have to throw the towel in if I have a bit of chocolate/a shop bought sandwich. How's everyone else doing?

Lucie11 · 31/08/2023 19:46

Couldn’t agree more @Summerscomin. As much as I admire anyone who can go hardcore and cut out all the bad things, I know that just won’t work for me.
I need to be able to have wine, some salty snacks and chocolate occasionally. That means it will take longer to lose, but I can live with that!

I have some downward movement today

SW 60.8kg
CW 59.7 kg
TW 55.00kg

Can I join in? Current weight is 10st 6 (on a good day!), target weight 9st 10. Maintained at 9st 10 for many many years but a bout of depression has meant my exercise and walking regime has fallen off a cliff. Anti-depressants also seem to have increased my appetite!

BaconAndAvocado · 31/08/2023 21:42

Yes, for me to completely cut out things I enjoy would be self-sabotage and very depressing.
I know I need to decrease the amount of rubbish I eat and increase the good stuff.

I definitely want to lose some weight but also want to up my good nutrition intake.

I did Couch25K during the first lockdown and loved it, maybe I should think about getting back into running. I walk about 3 miles a day with the dog but I’m not getting my heart rate up.

Heronatemygoldfish · 31/08/2023 22:32

Hi can I join? I'm actually 4 months in but I've got to the last 5kg which is so hard to shift. I also just had covid so not exercising right now...

Post menopausal, 5'6, usually cycle and walk lots, but have no stop button once I hit the carbs. Mfp and strict very low cal works for me (fh of type 2 diabetes, heart issues and breast cancer so I shouldn't ignore my weight!)

SW 83.7 kg
CW 67.1 kg
TW 62 kg

Lucie11 · 01/09/2023 16:06

@Heronatemygoldfish of course, anyone is welcome. Fantastic loss in 4 months! Yep, the last few kgs are a killer.

I have stayed the same today 59.7kg…got to keep going. Weekends are so much harder.

OP posts:
JollyJellyCat · 02/09/2023 08:42

10st1 today.

Weekends are OK for me, rushing round after the children. It's the boredom of the office and the temptation of the biscuit tin that I struggle with!

Lucie11 · 02/09/2023 17:40

Holding steady at 59.7kg. Am pleased as 3 days in a row means that kilo lost is a proper loss. Small wins! Next target is to get below 59kg.

Hope everyone else doing ok.

Hungryfrogs23 · 02/09/2023 17:51

@Lucie11 Thanks, you have really helped my mindset with that update! I was getting frustrated at being 9st 8.6 for the last 3 days but actually your way of looking at it is much better, it means the loss was a proper loss not just a I-just-did-a-big-wee type loss 😂maintaining is just as important in between losses as it shows proper, lasting change rather than crash dieting. You have cheered me up no end 😁

DearRose · 02/09/2023 17:53

Hello! Can I join too? Actually I'm on a couple of threads at the moment that I've joined in the last week ☺️

Currently 62kg
Target 54kg

Really relate to the comments about not feeling quite right in your own skin. My trousers are too tight and it's a constant reminder that my body has changed.

I've never needed to diet before as I was very active, but having a toddler and a new serious sugar problem has changed that.

My new accurate scales have arrived so treating this as day 1 although I've been doing intermittent fasting (16:8) for a couple of days already. I've also cut out all snacks and sugary treats.

I thought not eating from 7pm - 12 noon would be rough, as I'm always ready for breakfast first thing. But it's been ok.

Nice to meet you all 👋

Heronatemygoldfish · 02/09/2023 22:32

After being steady for 3 days at 67.1kg I was 67.3 today. Infuriating.
But today I both ate loads and did a lot of moving about and gardening so hopefully they'll cancel out. As long as I don't get a post covid crash tomorrow.

On the plus side mfp said if all days are like today I'll be at target in 5 weeks. I think it's a bit optimistic!

Lucie11 · 03/09/2023 11:58

@Hungryfrogs23 glad it helped!

I think if you weigh most days, you have to accept you aren’t going to see a loss every time! Not that it wouldn’t be nice!

I didn’t weigh today as I forgot, I might not until Wednesday or Thursday this week and hope I drop a few grams. I find it easier to eat well and not drink during the working week, it’s the weekends that are tough as I drink wine and like snacks with it 😬.

welcome new joiners @DearRose

OP posts:
BaconAndAvocado · 03/09/2023 12:14

I agree re weekends.
I’ll aim to weigh myself Friday mornings, then relax over the weekend and resume healthier eating on Mondays.
This is a more realistic approach for me.

DearRose · 03/09/2023 12:34

Regarding the week/weekend divide, my office kitchen is always full of cake and people saying, do you want some of this cake?

Although it's hard to resist the Friday/Saturday night treat isn't it? Must find new ways to make Friday night feel like a Friday... maybe having a nice bath instead of a quick shower, some candles ...something along those lines.

iloveyoghurt · 03/09/2023 15:40

I have finally managed to get the scales out and i am 56.9 kg, aiming for 53 hopefully in a couple of months. I have been eating quite well for the last 3 days and stuck yo under 1300 calories mostly lower carb .

GadgetArms · 03/09/2023 19:54

May I join?

Usually around 63kg but crept up to 67.5kg over summer.

I got down to 60kg for my holiday at the end of May but since then I feel I've lost control!

I think it's the lack of routine over summer that's undone me. I don't make good choices when my mealtimes are disordered.

Hopefully will get better when kids back in school and normality restored.

Jasperdale · 03/09/2023 20:14

Hi everyone. I’m late 40s 5 foot 5 and 10 stone looking to be about 9.5 stone but would love to be 8.5. Seems that if you are not particularly big it’s hard to shift weight, well it is in my case! Following for tips. Good luck everyone in your weight loss journeys x

DearRose · 03/09/2023 20:16

Hello @GadgetArms 👋

Out of interest, for people calorie counting, how do you do that? Do you have to weigh everything?

Summerscomin · 03/09/2023 20:31

I've had a pretty bad weekend. Mixture of tiredness and convenience has led to a perfect storm of eating rubbish. However, I haven't had a drink, so that's one positive.
I'm still thinking Tuesday will be my proper start, and regular weigh in day. I can't do daily weighing, I get too frustrated seeing the fluctuations!
I'm getting a bit flustered at picking a "method" though. I said earlier I was just going to do more good stuff, less bad stuff and exercise but it feels a bit, I'm not sure.. unstructured? Too much room for cheating?
My friends are doing slimming world, which I've done before successfully. I know I'd need to be organised and keep on top of cooking and shopping. I couldn't afford the time or cash to do groups so I'd have to use the app.
Alternatively, I got this far on calorie counting. I like that you can use your "allowance" on anything you choose- though of course that can be a drawback too. And once you've used up your cals, that's it. (@DearRose yes I weigh pretty much everything, til I've got a good idea what I'm doing).
So there's drawbacks and positives for both, plus a whole host of other ways I haven't considered!

Hello @GadgetArms 👋

Out of interest, for people calorie counting, how do you do that? Do you have to weigh everything?

I calorie count and use mfp to record it. Works for me as I can eat anything I want as long as I count it. Though I find I naturally cut back on carbs.

In the past I've tried slimming books and weight watchers (when they first did the Points) but it changed every year and I couldn't be bothered to relearn all the points values just because the marketing folk wanted something new.

Calorie counting is not going to change and yes it's a faff to weigh everything but most food comes with its calories on so I don't need to convert to anything else. I have scales with 1g increments.

67.0 kg today

Hello @GadgetArms 👋

I use the app Nutracheck.
It has 1000s of products on it, you can even use the bar codes to find out the calories.

BaconAndAvocado · 04/09/2023 08:14

So here we go....
Start weight this morning: 9st 13lb.

Good luck to everyone starting on their healthy eating quest!

I'm hoping to lose about a lb each week, hopefully getting to 9st 7lb by October half term 🤞🏻

SheepBeepBeep · 04/09/2023 09:06

Hi, can I join?

I’ve just turned 47 and since I hit 40 the weight has been slowly creeping up on my stomach. I started HRT patches last week and am on a mission to improve my health and well-being as I’ve been feeling quite low and unmotivated I think due to peri menopause. I also started going to the gym near to where I drop my son for his cadets twice a week, and am taking the dog on longer walks when I can.

Currently weigh 59 kilos and would like to get down to 56 kilos. Last year I got down to my target with strict calorie counting but it wasn’t maintainable in the long run to be so restricted, so I’m going for slow and steady, and hopefully I can keep it up long term.

current weight 59 kilos
target weight 56 kilos

Starmixx · 04/09/2023 13:44

Please my I join too? I’m 5’4 and currently 10st (and it shows). Put on quite a bit of weight after having two babies in a row and now the youngest is 12months I want to focus on getting back to being me. None of my clothes fit and I have around 1.5st to lose to feel like myself again.

Everyone tells me I look great after 2 babies but I just feel feel flabby and ugh… so I can’t talk to anyone IRL as they don’t understand. I’m hoping we can all motivate each other and give helpful advice/support 😊

Heronatemygoldfish · 04/09/2023 22:24

@Starmixx I think that's half the issue with not having much to lose or much left to lose. People think you're "thin enough" even though you yourself don't think you're quite there.
Last Friday someone said I should stop now before I look gaunt. Ha! Not at 10st 8 with a 32" waist... but these days that's "normal".
I shall persist until I'm back to between 60 and 62kg (what the TDEE calculator says I should be and where I feel mentally and physically comfortable.) You put it nicely: "Back to being me".
