Hi - I've just got back from holiday where I felt fat and frumpy and I hate all the photos of me. I weighed myself and I'm the heaviest I've ever been and need to lose 3 stone.

I'm 50 years old now and it's not as easy as it used to be when I could just lose it with barely any effort. I'm also bad at sticking to diets and I'm overwhelmed with the amount I need to lose and the fact that if I do it properly (i.e without crash dieting) it will probably take me about 8 months to get to where I want to be.

I was looking for a thread on here for women trying to lose weight at a similar age but can't find one. Is there on and if not does anyone fancy joining me?

I'll join you. I was a skinny-minny until I had kids, now I'm just a blob. I've been trying intermittent fasting, which goes well for a week then I just get hungry. ☹️

Zazu44 · 12/08/2023 19:53

I'll join you too but starting 1st September when I'm back from hols. I'm 60 in Feb and don't want to feel like this x

Jackydaytona · 12/08/2023 20:15

50 too
Need to lose 4 stone ideally
Photos look baaad :(
Perimenopause and covid lockdowns (where I got VERY good at baking) have caused a 3.5 Stone weight gain
I'm currently trying a "metabolic" diet aimed at peri menopausal women, so I don't eat carbs until dinner time and 3 x hit workouts per week
I've been doing it for 5 days so far

bernesewalking · 12/08/2023 20:27

I’ll join, I’m 52 menopausal, tried every diet under the sun but just seemed to gain not loose, dieting has completely screwed up the way I look at eating, so I’m trying something different, doing a free trail of slimpod, where I listen to pod casts and it’s supposed to work on your subconscious mind. I’ve got to the point I will try anything

BookWorm45 · 13/08/2023 09:36

I'm in ! Over 50, overweight and need to get past old habits. What I want is to feel strong, healthy, flexible and resilient - not there at present but I'm calling this out to myself to make myself accountable for my choices.

Oto · 13/08/2023 13:32

I'm so glad that there are others out there!

I have done intermittent fasting for a few years which helps me to maintain but not lose weight. I think that (as I'm short at only 5'3") I easily go over with my calorie consumption. So my plan is to still fast as I have been and also track my calories on MFP.

I have a dog so I walk a bit, I'm a teacher so I'm on my feet a lot at work and I also go to the gym twice a week and additionally I do Pilates twice a week. I'm sure that very toned under my outer layers! 😂

Slimpod sounds interesting. I shall investigate.

I'm in too, have got around 2st to lose.

Was going to start tomorrow so thought I would come on here and look for a thread to join, and here you are.

Will weigh in the morning. Monday seems a good day to start.

bernesewalking · 14/08/2023 10:21

I’m starting today, I’m listening to slimpods regularly, i have 3-4 stone to loose, not going to be easy but need to start thinking slimmer, healthier and fitter,

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 14/08/2023 10:25

I’ll join. Going to be 52 in September.

Joined WW in January but also on HRT at same time. Had lost almost a stone by May but now that’s back on. Was out for cocktails Friday night for birthday of friend and noticed scales zoomed up despite a 2.5 hour walk next day.

I’m now back on WW tracking and trying not to snack or fruit with zero fat yogurt. Drinking green tea and water without orange squash. Also drinking tea with skimmed milk but less.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 14/08/2023 10:26

I ideally want to lose a stone preferably more.

Hotcuppatea · 14/08/2023 10:30

I'm 52 and all my old go-to methods of slimming down stopped working when I met peri-menopause. The only thing that works now is weight training at the gym.

keiratwiceknightly · 14/08/2023 10:31

I'd like to join. I'm only just into overweight - 12st3 at 5ft8 so about 6lbs over, but I'm aware that if I don't sort it now it'll only get worse. I'm 50 and like a pp, a teacher, so tend to exercise in fits and starts (holidays 👍, term time 👎) but obv holidays also come with wine and too much food!

Probably well into peri though I have a coil and don't know about periods as a result. No real symptoms except feeling a bit more stressed in last couple of years and sleeping less well I'd like to avoid HRT if possible - another reason to keep weight down? - though it's on the table if I start to need it.

Tend to eat well Monday-Thursday with a low ish carb approach but then it all collapses come the weekend.

keiratwiceknightly · 14/08/2023 10:31

Oh and I'd like to lose a stone ideally. First target is healthy bmi.

Divebar2021 · 14/08/2023 10:32

Morning. I have about 3 stone to lose…. I’ve already lost over a stone on the Zoe plan ( going from a size 18 to 16) but went on holiday to the US for 3 weeks and have gained back about 5 lbs. Im 53 and not actually on HRT because the GP wouldn’t prescribe because of my weight ( bit of a vicious circle there). Back on the eating plan today…. I actually feel pretty good about it.

HalterNeck · 14/08/2023 10:50

I have found my people. 53, menopausal, on HRT and short!! I feel so crappy about myself, I can't stand seeing my reflection in the mirror. I have always been a size 8 from the waist up and a size 10 from the wait down. Now I am a size 12 all over which I appreciate doesn't sound massive, but I am only 5.1" and I just hate the way I look. I am eagerly anticipating wegovy.

Bigpinkslippers · 14/08/2023 10:58

I'm in, 53 with 3st to loose. Looking for ideas to stop me from just eating too much junk!

Crikeyalmighty · 14/08/2023 11:02

I'm 61- have lost 2 stone 3 since November but need to lose another 3 - it's hard going. One of my tricks is I eat breakfast late (around 10.50) and mid afternoon have just a smoothie most days.

AdoraBell · 14/08/2023 11:07

I’m 55. Started at a gym about 18 months ago, but, I’m an emotional eater. I know exactly what works for me, cut down carbs significantly. So much easier to say than to do.

Mumstheword2022 · 14/08/2023 11:08

Hey

I been quite on here but this thread is for me at the moment.

almost 53 and overweight but not massively. I am pretty sure it is contributing to my health issues and overall feeling of ‘bluh!’

I returned from a week in a European city weighing an extra EIGHT pounds! 😱

Started diet today.

going to look at Slimpod, Zoe and am back to my weight class this evening.

also bought a massive plastic water bottle. Those mad ones with motivational quotes! It is ridiculous but hoping drinking the 1.5 litres it’s holds every day will help flush out but also fill me up.

if I am honest I am also waiting for bloody test results ( for something else) and have a suspicion I could even be diabetic. If this is the case a stone off must help.

Day One.

fruit and fibre and low fat Greek yoghurt.
… so far so good.

AdoraBell · 14/08/2023 11:15

@BookWorm45 Pilates sorted out my long term back issues in my forties, if you can try that it will increase flexibility and strength. If you haven’t tried it before then start off gently, look on YouTube for beginners exercises if you can’t get to a class.

Crikeyalmighty · 14/08/2023 12:13

@AdoraBell yes that works for me too. I've had to get used to cauliflower rice and cauli mash an awful lot.

Puffypuffin · 14/08/2023 12:54

Oh I'm so happy to have found this thread! I'm 56, post menopausal and have a stone to lose. I've lost 2 stone this year and definitely feel better, but I just can't seem to shift the last one and it's starting to get me down now and I'm at the dangerous 'fuck it' stage that I know so well.

I looked at slimming world last night and did have some success a few years ago on that but I just can't get my head around some of the 'rules'. I don't want to eat yoghurts full of sweetners when I can have an Activia for 10 cals more. But I'd have to 'syn' that and I even hate that language.

Anyway, I'll be following this thread for some tips from you lot. 🙂

dontletsaskforthemoon · 14/08/2023 12:58

I'm in!!
I joined Slimpod 3.5 months and whilst I eat much better now and exercise more, I've not lost any fat. sadly. I'm enjoying the information provided in the videos and the support you get is really good for the money.
I've done SW, WW and calorie counted using Nutracheck, before but the weight has all piled back on.
I'm 53, peri and 4 stone overweight.
Saw some recent pics from holiday last week and a video of me at the weekend in a 'tent' of a dress (that I thought looked good on me) and I was mortified at how 'fat' I actually look. I've kidded myself for so long that I look ok but I seriously don't.

@Puffypuffin how did you lose the 2 stone initially? (well done by the way!!) I agree with SW; the terminology is off putting and as with all of these type of 'diets' the weight, plus more piles back on!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/08/2023 13:02

Can I join? 😊

Lost 3.5 stone in 7 months, 53 so quite proud of myself . Went away for weekend and was pretty restrained and have put of 4 lbs ,ffs !! Didn't even drink. Being VERY strick this week, this is the most I've gained since started dieting.

Going to live on soup all week too, went to Aldi and stocked up on lost of veg. Gave me a bit of a walke up call as to just how fast I can gain again.
