Hi - I've just got back from holiday where I felt fat and frumpy and I hate all the photos of me. I weighed myself and I'm the heaviest I've ever been and need to lose 3 stone.

I'm 50 years old now and it's not as easy as it used to be when I could just lose it with barely any effort. I'm also bad at sticking to diets and I'm overwhelmed with the amount I need to lose and the fact that if I do it properly (i.e without crash dieting) it will probably take me about 8 months to get to where I want to be.

I was looking for a thread on here for women trying to lose weight at a similar age but can't find one. Is there on and if not does anyone fancy joining me?

Ooh me too @Oto !

Mind you, I seen to be so up and down these days I have no idea if this is a trend or a blip.

I also think that, despite no actual period to speak of these days , my boobs are swollen and I’m ‘snacks’ so think 🤔 that my hormones are running amok.

legs and arms are still hurting from Monday’s kettle ‘hell’ ✅

Worked this morning from home, did some jobs for mother in law this afternoon and now cannot be bothered to even move !

Mumstheword2022 · 16/08/2023 16:43

Oh and finding drinking 1 1/2 litres of water more of a challenge than I thought it would be …

Barkleyspaubles · 16/08/2023 20:02

hello, yes me.
I've put on a fuck tonne of weight since being 40 - now 52 and as heavy as I was when pregnant. 6 stone to lose here. I've just started HRT - no idea if this will help or not. Considering a VLCD for September as I had great success with LigherLife (6 stone off). It didn't stay off because I ate as though every day was my last!

Oto · 16/08/2023 21:55

Nice work @Mumstheword2022! With the water thing I've found that you kind of get used to it. At first I was weeing for Team GB but I've settled into a bit a routine now and it's fine.

Welcome to new joiners. We've got this!!

I'm big into podcasts at the moment. If anyone else is I really recommend the Michael Mosley one on BBC sounds which is called Just One Thing. Each one is only -5 minutes long and they are all about dimple changes you can make to improve your life. The one I listened to today was about standing on one leg. Very interesting.

15 minutes long. Not 5. Clearly need to lose some weight in my fingers too 😂

Puffypuffin · 16/08/2023 23:48

I've had pizza, dough balls and curly fries tonight. Not exactly successful but we ride again at dawn!

useitorlose · 17/08/2023 08:06

@Puffypuffin That sounds yummy! I started the day with a 4km walk (my poor dog!) and some 0% Fage yogurt with cherry coulis I made yesterday - looked like a blood bath but tasted delicious. My weight today is the same as the last two days, so hopefully a whoosh tomorrow or Saturday (official weigh in day, such as it is, is Monday).

keiratwiceknightly · 17/08/2023 09:09

Well great excitement in this house today as the daughter got the a levels she needs for her chosen uni course. That's an empty nest for me in October... !

I've been v sensible with eating and drinking and have lost nearly 3lbs despite a G and t last night to help with the nerves! I'm off to Prague for 5 days end of next week and would really like to be under 12 stone by then as it would give me a bit of a buffer for the pastries and beer while I'm there. 1.5 lbs to shift before then.

Bimblesalong · 17/08/2023 09:18

I’m in. 57, on hrt and was hit badly by a second dose of covid and b12 deficiency this year which limited my ability to exercise. Now I’ve had my loading doses of b12 it’s time to build my fitness and reduce the tightness of my belt. My triglycerides have come back as elevated for the first time so I need to reduce those. I’m on a vege diet and have a few food reactions so need to plan what I can eat.

I’m aiming for a stone, hoping to get down half a stone by the new year and will take it from there.

Mumstheword2022 · 17/08/2023 09:19

Ooh @keiratwiceknightly

Well done her! so many similarities here. My boy has just had his first set of a level results - as the teacher! They were awesome 🤩. So proud.
Also, we were in Prague last week and it was mint. Drank too much yummy beer and ate too much goulash and out on eight pounds!

anyway, haven’t weighed this morning because I like to do it before I eat and that boat sailed …

justlass · 17/08/2023 09:36

I'll join too please.

I managed to lose a stone with 16:8 fasting earlier this year but I've got complacent and a few lbs have crept back on, so need to get back into that. It was working well for me, I more or less ate what I wanted within reason between 9 and 5, then just drank water or black coffee.

HalterNeck · 17/08/2023 15:02

I find the feeling of hunger unbearable, and that's why I snack incessantly. I don't eat too badly or in too large quantities, but I do eat sweets. I feel that at my age and with my body type, even just a couple of penguins a week is enough to make me put on weight. I buy protein powder and have a shake in the mornings, to make sure I eat plenty of protein, and I barely eat fruit or simple carbs. How does everyone cope with the pain of hunger? I feel stupid even asking this but do you take paracetamol for it?

keiratwiceknightly · 17/08/2023 15:29

Mums the word - well done to your boy too. Im a teacher and always get a little nervous for my a level students' results even 27 years in! Also 8lbs! Lawd, I hope I can avoid that!! 😂

Oto · 17/08/2023 15:43

Well done to the A'level students!! My DS got his too and is off to his chosen uni which is great. Phew!

Welcome @Bimblesalong & @justlass - lovely to have a growing group; the more the merrier.

@HalterNeck hunger is a weird one. For me I can't handle boredom or stress hunger - it becomes all consuming. If it's on my terms (i.e. I'm fasting) I can get quite competitive with myself. Today, for example, I've been up since 5:30am, I've done a workout, I've done some tutoring, I've been to the hairdressers and I've only just eaten for the first time today despite having had time in between things to eat. I just kept pushing it on. However, had I had a bit less going on I'd have been climbing the walls for sure and really struggled to be a reasonable human, quite frankly. 😂

Teacher myself @keiratwiceknightly 🤪

so, today food not so bad but been looking after my nephew and had people over for a cuppa. Quite inactive
Need to move my arse.

sadly I have also fallen off the running wagon - about a year ago. The weight falls off then

might have to rethink

useitorlose · 17/08/2023 17:11

The day started well, but dinner came from Shake Shack and although I didn't finish either the burger or the fries, they were nonetheless a burger and fries! Apart from that, I've only had my yogurt and fruit today, so hopefully little impact. Step count is over 10k already.

Welcome @Bimblesalong and @justlass

Stressybetty · 17/08/2023 17:17

Me too! 50, in peri-menopause and on HRT. Also have CFS/ME so permanently knackered and hormonal. Need to lose 5 stone ideally but would settle for 4. Slimpod seems a bit expensive at £99 but will see what the free trial is like.

ShinyBandana · 17/08/2023 17:18

Ooh can I join?
i’m 53 with 4 stone to shift having just gained 3 of those stone in the last 12 months - menopause/HRT plus wfh desk job. A year before that I had lost 4 stone on Lighterlife and the preceeding 10 years have been that cycle of boom and bust in which I have been very good at losing weight and very good at putting it on but not good at all in maintaining it.

I really want to break this cycle for good.

Last week I joined WW and am getting my head around long term positive lifestyle changes and gradual habit changes.

So not a great day today...a level results for DC. Got the uni place they wanted but actual a level results were WAY below predicted grades. So despite having a place at uni, there have been tears and snot everywhere.

I could have made better choices but I've been led by emotions...so a costa mocha with choc muffin for breakfast, tesco pasta pot for lunch and now DC choice of chip shop tea with a walk on the beach.

Meh...some days it's just got to be done so its been a write off today. Back on it tmrw. But I feel slimpod has helped me recognise that emotions definitely affect how i eat in a day and how difficult it can be to fight against those emotions!

On the plus side, I've been looking for an app that gives you daily exercise routines...think I've found one to try...but if anyone else has found a decent app for this, please recommend!

Onwards and upwards comrades!

Divebar2021 · 17/08/2023 21:34

@dontletsaskforthemoon

what app have you found because I’m quite keen to find some thing. I’ve recently traded my PT / commercial gym membership for a David Lloyd membership so I’m a bit at sea with the weight programmes. I have been doing lots of swimming / treadmill / Pilates but I know I need to introduce the weights back in soon. ( I need to pass a fitness test which is why the running). I don’t actually think loads of cardio is necessary for weight loss.

so today I ran then had a protein shake bolstered with some fruit , spinach, quark for extra protein , kefir for gut health and chia. Lunch was leftover salad with some smoked mackerel and 2 hard boiled eggs. Dinner was a Wagamamas but I didn’t finish it. ( didn’t love it) so I’m kind of peckish.

useitorlose · 18/08/2023 00:14

Hasfit has great exercise routines - app and on YouTube

I could have written this post! Especially the ALevel bit. A big emotional rollercoaster of a day. That's the last one through now so surely surely it's time to sort myself out and move myself up the list????

dontletsaskforthemoon · 18/08/2023 09:44

@Majorityofthree23 Literally said that to DH last night. And yes, it is time for us to move up the list of priorities; if not to take top spot!!

HappyKatieA · 18/08/2023 10:07

Can I join you all? I've just returned from holiday too; I've deleted most of the pics of me as I just feel deflated when I look at them, which is the opposite of how inflated I look in them!
I'm 51, terrible diet as I'm a head (teacher), just grab what I can, when I can. Eat at the wrong times, the wrong choices, and have ended up at least 4, if not 5 stone overweight.
I'm mourning the body I used to have, but also bang I. The middle of Peri menopause, have CFS/ME and enjoy gin, chocolate and cake far too much.
Previously I have done really well on Lighter Life and Slimmjng World but my motivation to maintain is shockingly absent!

Doteycat · 18/08/2023 11:31

Can I join? 53 and In full swing menopause.
Am a stone lighter than i was this time last year but have another 2 AT LEAST to go.
Cant do SW again, I like calorie counting but im not mad about myfitnesspal.
any other app anyone cld suggest?
I do yoga and kettlebells and walking but I just cant seem to make significant progress.
