Hi - I've just got back from holiday where I felt fat and frumpy and I hate all the photos of me. I weighed myself and I'm the heaviest I've ever been and need to lose 3 stone.

I'm 50 years old now and it's not as easy as it used to be when I could just lose it with barely any effort. I'm also bad at sticking to diets and I'm overwhelmed with the amount I need to lose and the fact that if I do it properly (i.e without crash dieting) it will probably take me about 8 months to get to where I want to be.

I was looking for a thread on here for women trying to lose weight at a similar age but can't find one. Is there on and if not does anyone fancy joining me?

Oh dear I've had a bad weekend. I went away with 2 friends, one of them has a caravan so we went there. I had all my faves, wine, pizza and dairy milk. 😳oh well back on the straight and narrow now.

Lostmyunicorn · 11/09/2023 15:06

I also didn’t have a great weekend - not too bad food wise but not great on the wine front 😱
back on it today, fasting 24 hrs from yesterday evening so very much looking forward to 6pm!!!

Majorityofthree23 · 12/09/2023 19:07

How easy is it to fall back into old ways....😡😡

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 12/09/2023 20:41

I had a difficult weekend, cake and ice-cream!! Gained but back on track now.

Mumstheword2022 · 12/09/2023 22:21

Oh dear! And we’ve been trying so hard… ok, too much wine ( and I even ate crisps in the pub and I NEVER do that) but I have walked 20k plus steps a day and did a really hard kettle class Monday,.
will weigh in the morn but won’t be good.
being over fifty must make this harder ?

work is killing me and means I am not as controlled with food as I should be ( sneaking peanut butter out of the jar) and fitting I exercise is hard, isn’t it?

I'm trying to get past the mindset of 'I've eaten something non-diet so it's all over now.' I'm trying to convince myself to log everything and use it as a learning experience. Last weekend's roast potatoes were more of a learning experience than I had expected!

Hi everyone, I'm 55, some years post menopause but I have that dreaded spare tyre - got 2 stone to lose and started back at weightwatchers on Monday. Have been tracking everything, so fingers crossed for a positive weigh in on Monday

Pekkala · 16/09/2023 05:52

Please help me! I have been watching this thread and trying some of the suggestions but have hit a brick wall (of lard)
51, on HRT, (mirena coil + sandrena gel)
I am 70kg. 1.5 years ago I was 56kg.
My weight keeps on creeping up and up.
For years a (not hugely strict) low carb approach kept me at a stable weight.

So I have:
Done stricter low carb -didn't work, then
Added glucose goddess method tips (vinegar, LOTS of veg, eaten first)
I only eat 2 meals a day - lunch: always nuts, bowl of chia/flax/psyllium/blueberries, kefir; evening meal: veg and chicken/meat/fish, some sort of sauce.
After never calorie counting, I am making sure this comes in at 1200 ish a day
Active ish job (early years teacher on my feet all day) -10k steps and weight train 3-4 times/week.
I am at a complete loss as to what else I can do as the scales continue to track upwards.
What am I missing?

Just thought I’d post. I’ve been at WW since January this year. I won’t lie it’s not easy but after approx 4-5 months I’d lost almost over half a stone, getting onto a stone which was mostly going at 1lb and then increasing gradually. But put that on recently.

One member at our group recently lost 6lb in a week and said she’d only had fruit that day (a hot day) but I’m unsure if that’s healthy!

Tracking and the motivation talks really help me, pity that lots of the clubs closed over lockdown.

Thanks for the encouragement - I actually did WW 20 years ago and it does work if you track everything. When I did it back then it was points as it is now, I know they changed it in the intervening years to other programmes but I think the points version is the most simple and makes sense to me. I’m not sure the fruit only thing is good for you either.

I lost weight through tracking and not tracking points.

What worked for me was knowing my zero points foods but being quite strict and boring with my diet.

Someone who’s lost weight on it brought in an air fryer book with great recipes which they’d pointed which did help us with new recipe choices.

Mumstheword2022 · 16/09/2023 08:34

Hey

up and down here but been doing 20k steps a day and watching what I eat. Skipped lunch yesterday without realising it as my timetable meant I taught without a break across what most of us would see as ‘lunchtimes’ and then thought it was silly to eat more that a choc rice cake as it was too near tea time!

Signed up yesterday for Cancer Researxh ‘100 skips a day’ in October even though I have not used a skipping rope since I was May ten years old! Maybe that will help if I wear two sports bras! 😳

will weigh in shortly

Also remember on WW fruit and fat free yogurt is zero points. I sometimes have that for breakfast.

I usually have Rude Health puffed oats (10g) in morning for breakfast with 80g blueberries and skimmed milk to cover it. Fills me up. Autumn winter I have porage (porridge) oats with water and blueberries.

At WW we all have cheat days either after weigh in or on weekends. Eg on weekends I have scrambled eggs mushrooms on toast (with fry light or butter) or peanut butter and marmite on toast. Or eg g&t with eg pop chips or chocolate. And if I go out I factor this in. I also walk a lot more. On Thursdays I also walk approx 2 hours (1 each way) at moderate speed and up and down hills part way to the
WW class.

Mumstheword2022 · 16/09/2023 08:42

Ok

11 9

getting there but I seem to bounce about between this and 11 12 constantly

11 2 would be just right I think ?

StoatofDisarray · 16/09/2023 08:54

I'm in! I'm 56 and trying to lose 3 stone gained after the triple whammy of a sports injury, Covid and the menopause. I've had some success with skipping breakfast, eating more protein, watching my calories and walking but it's sloooowwwww.

HierarchyOfMugs · 17/09/2023 09:46

Progress is very slow for me. I'm calorie counting, but I haven't been logging everything and I need to be more thorough about it. I think this is the point where I usually give up. ☹️

Mumstheword2022 · 22/09/2023 17:38

Ok, period arrived weds and I weighed in at 11. 7. 1/2

this is pretty typical. I was up at 11 11 at the beginning of the week!

has slim fast twice this week for lunch but, due to a nasty ankle injury, missed both weights classes .

I have no idea . Really.

someone at work said I looked ‘lovely ‘ yesterday so that’s something! Unless it implies that I normally look pretty shite that is!

have a lovely weekend all

Lostmyunicorn · 25/09/2023 10:51

I fell off the straight and narrow (again) due to guests staying and various other events but I’m now back on it! I’ve still managed to lose four pounds overall so that feels like a bonus. I am starting again with the long fasts twice a week as that really seems to work.

dontletsaskforthemoon · 25/09/2023 11:11

I've been thoroughly rubbish tbh. No attempt to curtail what I'm eating or drinking. Mainly because I've been enjoying a summer with my kids & DH before DS went back to his Uni last Tuesday and DD has gone off to start Uni last weekend. So I now have no excuse to not start 'project me'!

Off to the gym once work is finished!
