Hi - I've just got back from holiday where I felt fat and frumpy and I hate all the photos of me. I weighed myself and I'm the heaviest I've ever been and need to lose 3 stone.

I'm 50 years old now and it's not as easy as it used to be when I could just lose it with barely any effort. I'm also bad at sticking to diets and I'm overwhelmed with the amount I need to lose and the fact that if I do it properly (i.e without crash dieting) it will probably take me about 8 months to get to where I want to be.

I was looking for a thread on here for women trying to lose weight at a similar age but can't find one. Is there on and if not does anyone fancy joining me?

I haven’t kept up with thread, sorry. Well done to everyone 👍 I’ve lost just over 2 kilos. Feel much better already but I really want to get a pair of long boots this winter, my fat calves have always stopped me. So I’ll keep going.

Zazu44 · 24/08/2023 17:02

I've been reading this on holiday and kind of hope it gets me into good habits 🙏. She's on Instagram, ridiculously skinny and stylish but the book makes sense. Carb cutting is recommended.

Hi I'm 50 and have about 2 stone to live. I'm currently doing 14/10 fasting and calorie counting on MFP. I've done the fasting without calories counting before and unsurprisingly that didn't work!

igivein · 25/08/2023 09:21

Hi @flyright I'm 59 and doing Zoe too, but a little bit further along. I've got my test results back and have started learning about what foods are best for me. I'm finding it really useful and I'm 21lbs down so it's obviously working!
The Zoe podcasts are excellent and really informative, so you can explore those

Doteycat · 25/08/2023 09:37

What's Zoe?

igivein · 25/08/2023 11:09

Doteycat · 25/08/2023 09:37

What's Zoe?

It's not a weight loss system, it's about optimising your personal nutrition. They look at how your blood deals with sugar and fat and also at your gut microbiome to work out what's best for your body. They also teach you loads about food and nutrition.
It's headed by Tim Spektor, a Professor at KCH, and feeds into a mass study they're doing.
It's ruinously expensive, but I've been morbidly obese for most of my adult life and felt it was worth a punt. Seems to be working out so far ...

Doteycat · 25/08/2023 11:30

Thank you. I realise I could have googled so I appreciate the reply.
Best of luck with it!

Angrycat2768 · 25/08/2023 12:50

They have taken a lot of stuff out of the free MFP I see. I'm doing the 30 day free trial but can't see the price after. Sometimes it says £15 per month, sometimes £7.99.

Divebar2021 · 25/08/2023 13:44

I do Nutracheck for the calorie counting which has far more British products than MFP. You do pay and I can’t remember how much it is but it’s less than £20 a year

useitorlose · 28/08/2023 14:01

Hi, weigh in update from me (Slimming World online member). Just completed week 8, and after a 2lb gain thanks to two weekends away as soon as I enrolled, I am now 8lbs down in total, having lost 1.5lbs this week. Pleased with that 😀

HierarchyOfMugs · 02/09/2023 10:20

I'm starting properly now. I'm using nutricheck. It suggested starting with a 10% loss, so I'm aiming for that. I think the key for me is menu planning.

AdoraBell · 02/09/2023 10:22

Back from a short trip to Italy. Back in the wagon now.

makeminealargeoneagain · 02/09/2023 10:46

I turn 60 soon. I'm the fattest I've ever been. I'm 5ft 9 and when I stood on the scales 3 weeks ago I weighed 16st 12lbs. I was horrified. I've formulated a plan to eat healthy food and cut out the crap.

I've decided to do the following- made home made veg soup and eat this for lunch and dinner on day one. I have a large serving! Day two eating the soup for lunch then a normal but healthy dinner. Day 3 eating normally but no crap. Then back to day one and repeat. I've varied the soup to include a wide range of different veg eg red pepper & sweet potato, spicey parsnip, cauliflower and brocoli etc. In 3 weeks I've lost 9 pounds. Shopping bill has also come down!

Happy to keep going as I'm actually quite enjoying it. I need to slowly build in some exercise so when I lose another few pounds, (probably mean when I get to 15 stone)I'm going to join the gym to use the machine for weight/resistance training. No way I can run anywhere yet. If I can keep going then I'll be really pleased with myself.

Also I've stopped drinking wine and just drinking gin and slim line tonic/ bitter lemon at the weekend.

HierarchyOfMugs · 02/09/2023 11:15

@makeminealargeoneagain soup is a good idea. I think I'll make a pot this weekend - now summer is over. 😆

Lostmyunicorn · 02/09/2023 11:15

Morning can I join you all please? I’m 53 and heavier than I’ve ever been. Back from holiday and now really need to get on with it. I want to lose 2.5 stone.

Mumstheword2022 · 02/09/2023 11:20

Hey x
Sorry, I joined early in the thread but got a bit lost in the wilderness of food/drink out there and have fallen off the wagon.

Back now and weighed in at 11. 11 1/2

goal is 11 . 5 so not huge but happy at that at 5ft 7- works for me

had porridge and prunes for brekkie and lunch will be light as we are meeting friend for a meal later- I know this is bad timing but will stop me being a pig.

I just really love food!

oh, have you tried Halo choc brownie ice lollies? Only 90 cals and they are heavenly. They do salted caramel too

Oto · 02/09/2023 11:46

I there. I also fell off the wagon. However I received my Zoe report today and my results were not good at all so I actually feel that for the sake of avoiding diabetes and heart disease I really need to sort my shit out with my nutrition. But to be honest I feel quite overwhelmed with it all and can see myself existing on avocados, almonds and tuna just to keep it simple. 😅

Divebar2021 · 02/09/2023 12:13

Hey @Oto - if you start logging food in the Zoe app you’ll start to find combinations of food that will work for you. It is a faff to add recipes but it’s worth it to see how it scores. Sometimes the foods that improve the score of the meal are not the ones you would necessarily expect like olive oil or nuts. For breakfast I’ve had 2 poached eggs, half an avocado some cherry tomatoes with a piece of toasted German style rye bread.

Mumstheword2022 · 02/09/2023 12:25

We started eating bread again this summer and have both gained weight.

none in the house now so that will help.

zoe app? Might look into that

keiratwiceknightly · 03/09/2023 08:58

Last day of the 6 weeks summer hol for me and I'm staring down the barrel of an empty nest in 3 weeks time. So the right time to make some big changes starting with (but not limited to) getting fitter and slimming down a bit!

Got back from Prague on Tuesday - did put a little weight on but back to 12st1 this morning. Hoping to be under 12 this time next week.

Mumstheword2022 · 03/09/2023 12:43

I too am ‘back to school ‘ tomorrow @keiratwiceknightly but also NOT as my school is one of the 156. 😳

training day but we have been asked to stay home and prep for online learning and HODs - me- in Tuesday

how are we going to do this? So, avoiding the stress by having a last house clean and tidy in the garden .

have only worked four days this year’s summer hols so see that asa win!

ok

lunch is chicken salad 🥗

keiratwiceknightly · 03/09/2023 13:29

@Mumstheword2022 Ah bugger! Tbh, am half expecting to be sent home in a week or two as our building is a massive 70s concrete and glass box so seems likely we have some RAAC. What a mess eh.

HierarchyOfMugs · 03/09/2023 15:04

I'm so hungry. ☹️
I'm using nutricheck which has put me at 1200 calories. Should I increase this for a while? Or is there anything else I can do to stop feeling so hungry?
Had overnight oats & berries for breakfast, salad with fried prawns for lunch, then a snack of cheese as I thought some fat would help. But I'm still ready to chew my own arm!

useitorlose · 03/09/2023 15:13

I couldn't live like that. I'm doing Slimming World and could eat what you have had but if I was still hungry I would have some 0% Greek yogurt and/or some fruit.

Divebar2021 · 03/09/2023 15:26

@HierarchyOfMugs

ignore Nutracheck. It’s just throwing out a standard number for you to lose 2lbs a week ( I’m guessing that’s what you said you wanted to lose). Have a look at this Macro calculator by James Smith

https://www.jamessmithacademy.com/macro-calculator/

Im guessing you’re not eating enough protein but have a look at the numbers here.
