It feels like a life time ago I joined a mumsnet thread when I was obease and in my mid twenties.

With support from that thread, 100 in jokes and a patented claim to being "The best thread on mumsnet" TM I lost 6 stone.

Then life, babies, the pandemic and a million other things happened and I am dangerously dancing with being overweight again.

If any one new or old would like to join me in my new mumsnet weight loss journey I'll be here, any mode any method any size I am happy for the company.

@SushiSuave I'm sticking to fruit and Greek Yogurt, I'm crap with sugar if I have literally any it makes me want to eat everything in site 😮‍💨
I do like a fake cocktail of slimline tonic and a few drops of flavored bitters at the moment though

@Limonatamum I feel the same about the outfit I've bought for dds christening, I've got my eye on a hope and ivy on vinted but there are no 10s so I'm thinking about ordering one as an incentive 😅

DHs mouth surgery has been a bit of a boon for me but don't tell him that, we had scrambled eggs with spinach last night purely because he really only want soft food atm poor dear. He is jolly miserable 😪

Anyway as a result 11.1 this morning. I imagine it will all slow down drastically next week and depress me. The first week of a diet is always the best one 😅

dress incentive sounds like a great idea @HairsprayBabe, I love hope and ivy!
well done! What a great starting week!

down to 10.69 this morning, started at 11, goal is 9.7 by Christmas but I’d like to get to 10.4 by the wedding I’m MOH for on 9th sept!

pickledandpuzzled · 19/08/2023 18:06

Thank you for the reminder about protein puds and sugar free jelly. I have loads of the latter that just needs making up, so tomorrow is sorted. I put berries in. Must buy the puds.

Also must get used to spending on food that helps my goals. I'm inclined to stinginess.

DS2 stole my scales so I'm adrift. I think I'm ok, but must check tomorrow.

pickledandpuzzled · 20/08/2023 19:08

I missed getting to the shops before they closed today, but I made the jelly.

I have put some millet porridge with chia seeds in soaking for breakfast, to make a change from chia water. Will see what that's like. It's quite a nutty flavour.

SushiSuave · 20/08/2023 20:03

Well weigh in for week 2 has happened and I'm feeling pleased with a 3lb loss this week.

SW: 11st 11lb
CW: 11st 5lb
GW: 9st 6lb

I'm back at work in 2 weeks and if I'm below 11st by then I'll be really pleased. And will be able to wear more of my work clothes again!

Janefx40 · 20/08/2023 20:11

Well done @SushiSuave ! Great work.

SushiSuave · 20/08/2023 20:12

Thanks @Janefx40, hope everyone else has some good news when weighing in tomorrow!

Pancakebatter · 20/08/2023 21:31

My scales picked on this weekend and I completely veered off . Back on the straight and narrow tomorrow.

pickledandpuzzled · 20/08/2023 21:32

Well done sushi!

Badhairday101 · 20/08/2023 22:40

I had a fantastic day at my friend's wedding yesterday. I drank my weight in wine and have really suffered for it today. I've ended up having a McDonald's for lunch and chippy for my tea 😂.

I'll get straight back on it tomorrow. I've just booked a holiday for October so that will motivate me and need to save so that will stop me going out.

I'm a teacher and back to work in a few weeks so want to do some batch cooking before that because I tend to just eat for convenience when I'm tired and busy. What kind of lunches do people take to work? I usually just eat in the dining room with the kids but end up having a massive hot dinner and pudding everyday which I need to avoid.

Newbornmum · 21/08/2023 07:40

Morning Everyone 🌻,

Hope you're all doing OK and had a good weekend. Sorry I've been awol the last few days. Think DS is having a growth spurt and it's been cluster feeding chaos over here!

Feeling cheered up by this mornings weigh in - lost 2.4 pounds so very happy with that. Just got to keep an eye on my milk supply but so far so good.

I'll have a proper read through and catch up later on (hopefully DS doesn't have other ideas! Lol). Good luck with all the weigh ins everyone 🍀💕

poorpaws · 21/08/2023 07:47

Good morning everyone

I managed to lose 1 lb this week but it's been very difficult. This last stone is by far the hardest to lose and I've worked so hard. I've been up at 6:30 every morning doing exercises, eating very healthily with no naughty bits, and it's still just 1 lb off (which I appreciate but it could've been more).

I'm wondering if I'll ever do this! I've been trying to lose this last stone for so long and it's so elusive. All I can do is keep on trying. I've got a meal out tomorrow evening which doesn't help.

I hope everyone weighing today has a good weigh-in and we'll just keep doing our best.

poorpaws · 21/08/2023 07:48

@Newbornmum well done you, that's a great loss.

Icycloud · 21/08/2023 07:53

I eat lunch and dinner and usually breakfast too. If I don’t I end up over eating anyway. They are portion sizes. I try to make it balanced and I eat a lot of salad. I don’t know if I’m losing weight as I don’t weigh myself but it doesn’t feel like it.

I am also a teacher and was thinking about lunches. I started a thread and got some good suggestions - let's see if I can link it:

Janefx40 · 21/08/2023 08:59

Well done @Newbornmum great result. Sorry about the hard week. The babies are tough work. Yes I add calories for breastfeeding.

Well done @poorpaws how long have you been trying to lose the final stone? I am new to weight loss but I did have a few weeks where I stopped losing even tho I was being really strict. Eventually the weight started coming off again.

I weighed in today at 64.1kg. That is 10 st 1 so I have lost just over 3 pounds but that is 10 days as we didn't have scales on holiday

pickledandpuzzled · 21/08/2023 09:36

@Badhairday101 a mixture of microwaved leftovers from a previous evening meal, or picky bits- cheese chunks, cherry tomatoes, cucumber chunks nuts etc.

Badhairday101 · 21/08/2023 10:17

@SushiSuave @pickledandpuzzled brilliant thanks and I'll check that thread out.

After a weekend of eating and drinking to excess I've put on 4lbs, hopefully the majority of that is water retention 😂.

HairsprayBabe · 21/08/2023 10:25

Happy Monday everyone,
I veered off course over the weekend (obviously)
Made scones for the children's breakfasts in the week and ate two, then we had Indian on Sunday evening -I stuck to lighter options but still had a few of DHs chips

11.3 for a Monday start is good enough though - who knows if I remain golden I may hit the 10s this week ;) attepmting a full on fast day today, had a coffee so far and we will see how far I get

Bought the hope and Ivy dress waiting on its arrival - if it is too snug over the hips then I may have to invest in some industrial shape wear

~Excellent losses everyone!

@poorpaws agree the last stone is SO hard and boring, i remember first time round the first five stone practically fell off me then i crawled down through the 10s for best part of a year. Deadly.

@SushiSuave I have the same lunch practically every day, 0% greek yogurt and a 3-4 portions of fruit - not tropical though - if I am pressed on time I just use frozen berries, sometimes I add slivered almonds or pumpkin seeds. I used to make it the night before and take it to the office but these days I'm WFH so I just cut it up at lunch time.

@Newbornmum Free Calorie Calculator for Breastfeeding Moms (with Macros) (thebreastfeedingmama.com) I used this with mine - I did well with DS was too complacent second time round!

Although (anecdotally) I'm still feeding DD once or twice a day and have slashed cals all the way down to 500 on fast days and haven't noticed any difference in supply, and she would let me know 😵 so it must be on a rolling basis rather than one off low calorie days

Milk Volume - Nutrition During Lactation - NCBI Bookshelf (nih.gov) this is the actual studies done on how much you need to eat to maintain supply, evidence suggests around 1500cals for most women.

Hello! I’m just heading back from a marvellous festival weekend. I am now composed of 50% grease sbd 50% booze.

I’ll read back when I get to work but wanted to say GOOD MORNING SLENDERISTAS!

poorpaws · 21/08/2023 12:07

@Janefx40 I'm ashamed to say I've been trying to lose this last stone for probably nearing two years. Every single time I get to 10 st 10 lbs, which I've done so many times, I binge eat and race back up to 11 st 4-6 lbs. I get excited to go into single figures on the lbs and every time, I fail.

At least I am aware and trying soooo hard this time to get to my goal (10 st) but it's very difficult. I have to exercise loads (two and a half hours dog walk minimum, plus 55 mins exercise dvd) and eat a lot less than I'd like to and no treats.

My family keep telling me it's obvious I should be around 11 sts and my body is telling me that but it can't be true because I'm not even in a healthy bmi range. I'm not tall either so that doesn't help.

It's so much easier if you have about 3 sts to lose, the first stone often nearly drops off. Don't you agree @HairsprayBabe? I remember it was easier for you at first and then it slowed right down. I seem to remember you struggling more towards the end ? (Although I was always in awe of your progress and can still remember photos you posted).

HairsprayBabe · 21/08/2023 14:50

@poorpaws yep it definitely is first 4ish stone fell off me once I started trying, then it slowed way down - then that last stone dragged for a year and nearly killed me with boredom
plus I was like 25 last time i dieted and there is a world of difference in my metabolism!

OP posts:
pickledandpuzzled · 21/08/2023 15:42

I think the stubborn last stone or two needs a different approach, I view it as maintenance with a longer goal of gently losing.

I'm getting used to how I now look/feel/ dress. I'm trying to eat like people who have never had a weight problem eat. Without guilt, binges, or being a control freak.

I am working on my attitude to food and changing my motivation and outlook instead of actively dieting in any way.

So I reintroduced healthy fats, and reduced the highly refined diet foods like muller light. I'm trying to lose a good foods/bad foods and deprivation outlook.

Hopefully I'll get stable and drift downwards.

To be fair, I was (morbidly) obese for many years, so it's a bigger adjustment than if you're working on two or three stone.

Duchessofspace · 21/08/2023 16:27

I’ve been cutting back for a week or so on chocolates and alcohol. Prepping for a start…. Also started Horseriding again - first time I couldn’t swing my hip over and two weeks later everything feels much easier to move

FireflyGirl · 21/08/2023 19:34

Hello all, can I jump on?

I actually managed to lose most of the pregnancy weight (DD is 3 in October) but then had the coil fitted last January and within 6 months I went up to what I weighed at nearly 8 months pregnant and I just haven't been able to shift it. I'm having the coil out in a couple of weeks, which I am hoping will help, and would like to join you for support/accountability!

I will be calorie counting using MFP.

SW: 12st 10lbs
GW: 12st (interim target) by the half term holiday

B: slice of toast, breakfast bars and apple
L: ham and egg salad, lentil crisps, grapes
D: spaghetti Bolognese with cheese
S: Apple,

I'm within my calorie target for the day.
