It feels like a life time ago I joined a mumsnet thread when I was obease and in my mid twenties.

With support from that thread, 100 in jokes and a patented claim to being "The best thread on mumsnet" TM I lost 6 stone.

Then life, babies, the pandemic and a million other things happened and I am dangerously dancing with being overweight again.

If any one new or old would like to join me in my new mumsnet weight loss journey I'll be here, any mode any method any size I am happy for the company.

Chia water is just a big glass of water, maybe a squeeze of lemon or lime then a teaspoon of the seeds stir them in and leave for about half an hour they swell up and are a bit crunchy and it gives you something to do if you are a picky eater like me.
if I am super miserable I put them in a wine glass to give me fancy vibes and trick my brain into thinking I'm having a lovely treat
Yesterday I had a fruit bowl with yogurt for lunch then scrambled eggs, avocado and black beans for dinner - its a great meal I call Mexican breakfast not sure how authentic it is but its tasty and keeps me full, babybel and apples for snacks when needed.

I am supposed to be working today (WFH) but we have had a childcare failure DH had a small operation on his mouth yesterday and is like a bear with a sore head. So its going to be one of those really stressful and unpleasant days where I will come out of the end of it wanting to eat everything in sight.

Ugh @HairsprayBabe that sounds like a fun day…not!

scales were half a Linda down this morning. I’ll take that. Slow and steady. Off to a festival this weekend with a fellow Slenderistas and I know all that hard work will be undone. But it’ll be bloody good fun!

just off to the gym after starting work at 7am. Salad all prepped and packed for lunch. Beef stroganoff (hairy dieters recipe) for tea.

I am so in the zone it’s ridiculous 💪

WILTYjim · 17/08/2023 10:01

Well, so far this week I have put on 1lb!! I like to think it’s slowing down though and if I keep my atomic habits going and growing, my walks will get longer. And it’s a relief to be off the booze tbh, I’m sleeping so much better.

I’m desperate to be a stone down by 28 Sep, with 5st to lose I think that’s doable.

Thank you for the Mexican breakfast @HairsprayBabe how do you season the beans?

Newbornmum · 17/08/2023 10:32

Hi All,

Stressful day yesterday but all OKish on the food and exercise front (I think/hope!) Felt hungrier so ate a bit more - don't want to mess with things too much what with bf DS who is being veeeeery fussy (borderline hysterical lately!) about feeding at the moment. Sometimes it's a dream and sometimes it's a nightmare from one feed to the next. Very unpredictable. @Limonatamum he's just turned 6 weeks, which according the health visitor is peak fussy time, so hoping things will start to get easier in a couple of weeks time 🤞🤞🤞How are you getting on with your LO? Not too sleep deprived I hope... I've been shocked at how difficult I've found the lack of sleep tbh!

Feeling so down about my postpartum body. I am so so grateful to have him and for what my body has done. It's such a gift but, looking in the mirror, I just barely recognise it and feel anxious to get back to something that feels more like me, particularly before being a bridesmaid in a few months. Feels like a scary deadline and I've no idea what size dress to order in 😱😱😱😳. Rant over. Deep breaths!

@pipickledandpuzzled It doesn't say live joghurt or list any cultures so I'm not sure. I really missed stinky blue cheeses during pregnancy though so definitely will have to get some of those in 😊 The chia with frozen fruit sounds amazing - might try it to put on the Joghurt! Sounds like my kind of cooking lol

@HairsprayBabe postpartumtv on YouTube seems to have some good ones too (not that I've done anything other than watch them yet! Oops 🤦). Walking with DS in the carrier seems to be the only goer atm. He just wants to be held all the time bless him! I don't know if I just need to be patient or if I need a better plan to fit it in. I do feel like some strength training is in order.

@Limonatamum they all sound like great ideas, thank you :) I'm popping to Aldi today for some ready cooked chicken breast - the seasoned/spicy ones - to have in as super quick just rip open the packet in a rush snacks, and some light babybels. I've also been getting mange tout, sugar snaps and little carrots to just wash and dip in salsa. That shows the extent of my culinary prowess! Lol

Hope everyone is doing well and having a good day 😊🌻

Badhairday101 · 17/08/2023 11:10

@Newbornmum you sound like you're doing a great job, those fussy times are really hard going especially mixed with no sleep.

If it helps I found that after a few months my body kind of changed back to a more recognisable form. That was without me doing anything, it was like I just lost a lot of swelling somehow and my hormones settled down a bit.

Badhairday101 · 17/08/2023 11:12

My chia pudding was really runny, they didn't seem to swell much. Not sure where I went wrong. It was more like runny slime than set. It tasted pretty good with berries and honey though.

HairsprayBabe · 17/08/2023 13:14

@Newbornmum could you try Carifit if baby likes the carrier? I always thought it sounded like a great idea but I never actually did it -lazy-

@WILTYjim I use seasoning mixes from here Texas BBQ Mix | Authentic Southern barbecue flavour (justspices.co.uk) is what I use for any chilli, tacos, beans etc.

Disclaimer I got mine for free because I do some micro blogging I'm sure any supermarket mix would be fine I do have an aff code if anyone is interested though

I started with a little yogurt, tablespoon of oats, and almonds for breakfast, with a glass of chia water with my collagen powder and some flavouring. I'm reserving judgement on the chia water.

For lunch I've had fruit and chia seeds.

I'm going to afternoon tea shortly and will be having whatever is offered! Obviously I won't need to eat this evening so it should balance out!

pickledandpuzzled · 17/08/2023 13:15

Badhairday101 · 17/08/2023 11:12

Bit less water/milk perhaps.

It's a bit hit and miss. I use less rather than more, as you can always add a bit more liquid before you eat if you need to.

Janefx40 · 17/08/2023 13:17

Until recently I would have Greek Yoghurt with 20g. Flaxseed and 15g chia for breakfast plus various fruit. The chia works well in that.

Top chia tip. Rinse the leftover seeds off your bowl before you use a sponge or they stick to the sponge and you have to spend ages picking them off!

I've had to give up dairy for breastfeeding as the baby has reflux - this was helping to stop me snacking until I realised I can just use the dairy free spread to bake - and just eaten half a batch of cookies! I am hopeless - very much all or nothing! But will get serious again when we get back from our holiday this weekend x

Newbornmum · 17/08/2023 13:35

@Badhairday101 thank you 🌻🌻 just had to rush out of Costa in a bit of a flap because I couldn't bf him without flashing everyone with him latching and unlatching every few seconds.

It definitely does help to hear that, thank you - it's exactly what I need to hear right now to be honest. I think, in my head, because I'm now 6w postpartum and my uterus is meant to be shrunk back down to where it belongs, I feel like that's it and ppl will expect I should look back to "normal," which I definitely don't x

Badhairday101 · 17/08/2023 13:36

@pickledandpuzzled thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try.

@Janefx40 Great tip! I've shoved the bowl straight into the dishwasher, hoping everything doesn't come out covered in chia seeds 😂.

Newbornmum · 17/08/2023 13:39

@HairsprayBabe that sounds brilliant. I've not heard of it. Will have a quick Google now, thank you 😊

@Janefx40 that's interesting. Did it help cutting out dairy? I've recently added more dairy in to try and up my protein and DS seems to be spitting up an awful lot. I might have to have a read around. P.s. The cookie scenario is very relatable! Lol

Janefx40 · 17/08/2023 19:58

@Newbornmum it's 8 hours since I last posted and I have now eaten the whole batch of cookies....must not bake again! 😬

I'm still not certain if my baby has reflux or not but I am trying the dairy free thing (as instructed by hospital paediatrician). It will take a few weeks to see the result apparently although my friend said when she ate dairy her lactose intolerant son would be sick straight away.

I missed your earlier post when you talked about hating your post baby body. I was/am the same but I agree with @Badhairday101thaf your body will get back to normal over a few months. Like you, I read all that stuff about the uterus shrinking by week 6 and panicked because I still looked pregnant! But I'm now at 12 weeks and although I'm not back to normal, I can see that I will be in time. I'm getting closer.

I have diastasis recti so having to do exercise and the extra weight doesn't help. But my body has definitely started to settle back to what it was before to some extent.

Oh and I relate re the breastfeeding. I think (fingers crossed) it has settled down a bit now but I was also going feed to feed with whether or not it was working.

TVHubbyClaire · 18/08/2023 09:27

Dam Scales, 12st 10 this morning, clearly a 4 mile walk didn't offset 2 glasses of wine and a salted caramel dessert last night...

My "need" for a wine and desserts was always my Achilles heel during the Slenderista days and apart from me getting older there is not much change there...

Pub night tomorrow also. I seem to be in danger of going up not down 🙃

@BitOutOfPractice Down by half a Linda sounds blooming fabulous to me....

BitOutOfPractice · 18/08/2023 09:28

Oh no @TVHubbyClaire but that sounds like a perfect evening to me!

I'm off to a festival this weekend - fried food and beer all the way 🙄🙄🙄🙄

TVHubbyClaire · 18/08/2023 09:49

@BitOutOfPractice not a weekend to worry about the scales...you will have to walk around a bit and dance a lot ( obviously without spilling beer...)

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 18/08/2023 10:19

Sorry I've been away! I'm going to post my first weight measurement: 14 stone 10 pounds.

Is weekly weigh in on Monday then? I will start in earnest and see if anything's happened by next week 😬

HairsprayBabe · 18/08/2023 11:20

Happy Friday I have been in the zone for 1 week and results are promising
SW 11.6
CW 11.2

No plans for this weekend so It might be golden and I can lock in that loss rather than it just being water weight!
Onwards and downwards!

@AtomHeartMotherOfGod I weigh every day, but its personal preference, I tend to count my Friday weight the most as I started on a Friday but whatever works for you!

@BitOutOfPractice have a wonderful time agree with TV that all that walking and dancing will negate the fried beer cals!

@Janefx40 I think a lot of it comes down to luck and genetics, be kind to yourself. I think the old phrase is very fair nine months to grow them, nine months to "recover" . Bounce back pressure is un real!

@TVHubbyClaire Aldi do these protein pudding pots these days could that satisfy your sweet tooth whilst remaining virtuous?

OP posts:
TVHubbyClaire · 18/08/2023 12:45

@HairsprayBabe only if they are sweet and taste like a proper dessert... (unlike my 10kcal Hartleys jelly which I am enjoying just now at my desk...🤔)

I will take a look, your tips on Nandos ordering were brilliant last time around...

If no success with desserts I will perhaps fall back to the 2 or 3 squares of dark chocolate which actually worked once i made it a routine

TVHubbyClaire · 18/08/2023 14:36

apologies @HairsprayBabe , forgot to say, well done this week, 4 Lindas is a fab achievement....😄

Badhairday101 · 18/08/2023 16:12

Well done @HairsprayBabe that's fantastic.

I agree with the Aldi protein puddings, they're really big and filling and very sweet.

TVHubbyClaire · 18/08/2023 16:32

That's me signing off at work.

There is an Aldi close to home.

Can I head straight to puddings, maybe wine and then checkout without buying anything with a pomegranate or lime, basil and mandarin fragrance or a set of solar garden lights...

Limonatamum · 18/08/2023 19:17

MOH dress arrived for early September which doesn’t quite do up….
No choice now haha!
aldi puddings sounds great, I’ll have to pop in!

SushiSuave · 18/08/2023 20:41

Hi all, just checking in for the accountability factor! I'm really proud of myself this week. I've weighed and measured and stuck to 1200-1300 calories every day. I've also walked every day and not eaten those extra calories (using my fitness pal). BUT - watching masterchef always makes me hungry! So I'm making sure I save some calories back for a snack while I watch that. Enjoying a packet of butterscotch popcorn as my treat! What treats is everyone else having to satisfy sugar cravings without blowing the diet?
