It feels like a life time ago I joined a mumsnet thread when I was obease and in my mid twenties.

With support from that thread, 100 in jokes and a patented claim to being "The best thread on mumsnet" TM I lost 6 stone.

Then life, babies, the pandemic and a million other things happened and I am dangerously dancing with being overweight again.

If any one new or old would like to join me in my new mumsnet weight loss journey I'll be here, any mode any method any size I am happy for the company.

11 stone 1 this morning!! Haven’t had time for breakfast my son refused to go to bed til 1am (He’s teething) I’ve got an activity booked with my daughter at 10am so we all overslept! Wishing everyone a good week!

Hodgepodge211 · 14/08/2023 10:44

Morning all! First weigh in of the thread this morning - came in at 182lb (was 188 a couple of months ago) My first goal is 172lb - ideally by the end of the year.

Started the day off well with a trip to the gym, and got a healthy day food wise planned. Beginning of the week is always easier though Blush

HairsprayBabe · 14/08/2023 12:12

Hello all, this thread is moving quickly!
So glad so many of you are joining in!

I too found a covid mat leave good for shedding lbs - my second one was a cake fest with mummy groups i missed out on first time round!

@BitOutOfPractice Blood sugar diet was my silver bullet last time I need to dig out my copy - I have had enormous changes too my life is compleatly different to when I was last slimming, new job, new partner, married, new town, babies, bought a house etc. etc. I'm a different person!

I do a combination of lower carb calorie counting and IF - i really need to include some exercise but I never managed it before lazy
so my week looks like
Fast day, Fast day, Golden day, golden day, golden day, relaxed day, golden day
that's my formula for a perfect week but I haven't done one in 5 years!

I weigh every day but I only "count" the results once a week - usually Monday or Friday, if we want a weigh in day what does everyone think?

@Ninjago22 I do a kitchen closed mind set - helps me loads just compartmentalising that nothing is available

So far today I have had a coffee with a dash of skimmed milk, ill have yogurt and fruit for lunch and a veg curry for tea

what's everyone elses meal plan for the day?

OP posts:
pickledandpuzzled · 14/08/2023 13:10

So far I've had two slices of bread with a combination of marmite, peanut butter, jam and honey (half a slice each, with some overlap!).
A bowl of beans with a chunk of cheese and another slice of bread. That's more bread than I'd usually have, but it was fresh and nice so I thought I'd enjoy it! (New attitude, no rules!).

Later we've got tandoori marinated chicken breast with baby spinach and jacket potato.

Is everyone getting enough calcium?
I was advised recently to up my protein so that's my main goal at the moment. (Along with eating 'normally' while dropping a lb here and there).

I've got a meal out this week and next, and am on holiday the week after that.

I find I don't gain on holidays- we eat well but we are also active and busy. And no real opportunity for snacking.

pickledandpuzzled · 14/08/2023 13:12

So true, @Ninjago22 !

I didn't manage proper IF for a variety of reasons. I can do 16:8 easily, but have been asked to eat breakfast as part of tackling the restriction mindset. Interesting times!

BitOutOfPractice · 14/08/2023 13:29

Just tea for breakfast here. Lunch was a thin bagel with cream cheese and ham and a slice of beef tomato on each half with tons of salt and pepper. It was so nice. I've also just had a home made banana and oat cookie. DP made them yesterday - tbh they aren't very nice but don't tell him!

Dinner will be Creamy chicken tarragon pots, new potatoes and broc. Then it's KITCHEN CLOSED!

BitOutOfPractice · 14/08/2023 13:35

@pickledandpuzzled the overlaps are best bits aren't they?

pickledandpuzzled · 14/08/2023 13:41

Oh yes! PB and marmite, and PBJ. Yum. Happy to agree I'm a savage!

AutumnNymph · 14/08/2023 13:47

I struggle to lose weight and even more so this year. I've been going to the gym but not seeing the scales go down.

Howdy all, and welcome to the new faces! I've lost track a bit but hello! 👋 All the talk of PB&J has me salivating, it's such a weird combo but very yum!

Feeling golden today. Took DS and my Grandparents to a coffee shop and managed to just have a nice coffee whilst everyone else had mountains of food. DS was for once in a very insistent sharing mood but I managed to resist his caramel shortbread (my fave) and he shared with grandma instead 😇

Breakfast/Lunch raisin and cinnamon thin bagel, an apple and some pineapple that needed finishing.

Not sure what to do for dinner tonight, might just be good old beans on toast or maybe a jacket potato as DS is at his dad's. Always have to force myself to cook when it's a meal for one, or I end up skipping a meal and making late night trips to the fridge because I'm starving by then!

Janefx40 · 14/08/2023 17:47

Hello! I'd love to join please. I have a 12 week old and got very out of control with the snacking after he was born. I almost force fed myself chocolate and cakes!

I was super disciplined for a while but then decided to relax a bit and the snacking got out of control again.

On holiday this week then need to get back to it.

I don't have tons to lose but I'm determined to lose it especially as I also have muscle separation of my tummy so look pregnant still. I have to be careful because I'm breastfeeding so I add in extra calories for that and the good thing is that I'm losing weight more easily on higher calories than I would normally.

That's good, Janefx

Thanks for the welcome, @HairsprayBabe. I know what you mean about carbs, and in the past would have agreed with you. I seem to be entering a new phase of life!

Is anyone paying attention to their probiotics? I make sure I eat some 'dirty' food every day- blue cheese or sauerkraut. Something fermented. It's really helped my digestion, and I think it's imbalance is responsible for some of the cravings we get.

Newbornmum · 14/08/2023 18:59

Hi everyone,

Lovely to see the thread so active - nice to meet you all 😊

@pipickledandpuzzled I think I need to pay more attention to pre/probiotics (I never quite understand the difference). I had to be induced because my waters got accidentally broken during a sweep so got an IV full of antibiotics, which I always find mess up my digestion. I've been eating live joghurt but that's about it. I might get a supplement. I didn't know blue cheeses had them in - that's a win!

@janfx that's good to hear you're losing weight more easily whilst breastfeeding. I'm breastfeeding my 6 week old and I'm a bit worried about trying to keep my milk supply up whilst losing the baby weight - I'm not calorie counting so it's a bit of guess work.

Oops sorry - that was meant to be @janefx40

Duchessofspace · 14/08/2023 19:41

Hello everyone.

well I made homemade vegetable soup in my soup maker today - for lunch

I made a homemade bread as well, and homemade yoghurt.

salmon, peas and sweet potato for dinner.

I weigh in at 13 stone8 today - I’m going to try to alternate days - eat, then go light the next day etc and cut down carbs bit by bit …. Going to be hard I think …..

Janefx40 · 14/08/2023 19:41

@Newbornmum I am calorie counting on an app and I looked up how much I can safely lose whilst breastfeeding and factored that in. They say you can lose 1-2lb per week. And I get an extra 400 calories due to breastfeeding so end up around 1800 which sounds high but seems to be working when I stick to it!

Hope you and your little one are doing ok, I'd forgotten how tough those early weeks are!!

Honeyandwine · 14/08/2023 19:45

Well done everyone. Great to have some accountability. @HairsprayBabe I do fasting (18:6) along with weightwatchers.

Today I ate: salad for lunch and a mexican chicken salad for dinner. Am taking Berberine and prebiotics as well as turmeric. I have two children (6 and 5) and am on summer hols at the mo so trying to do as much cooking from scratch. I find when I'm at work- I get really tired and lazy.

pickledandpuzzled · 14/08/2023 19:55

@Newbornmum pre biotics are what you need for probiotics to flourish- like, fibrous foods. I don't worry about that bit- a decent diet, basically.

Probiotics are in fresh miso, sauerkraut, mouldy cheese, yogurt... I went through a phase of making loads of things- kefir, kombucha and so on. And tablets! Sometimes I take tablets for a boost, too!

pickledandpuzzled · 14/08/2023 19:56

My official weigh day is Wednesday. I'll check in then.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 14/08/2023 20:51

Hairspray it’s mad how much life changes… I think when everything left off you were engaged to a new man? I remember you breaking up with your ex!
I’ve not got kids but acquired two dogs and moved to the country… I think I was still living in London when I first started posting! It’s mad how much things change

SushiSuave · 14/08/2023 22:07

I weighed today despite only starting the diet today and somehow managed to lose 3lb last week whilst on holiday! I was doing a lot of walking which must be why but it is reassuring to know I don't need to eat salad all week to lose - might help me stay realistic. I walk the dog every day but am considering starting up my evening walks again too. It stops me snacking after dinner and I find it really good for my mental health too.

Newbornmum · 14/08/2023 23:13

@pickledandpuzzled ah I see - thanks for the explanation 🙂 very pleased to hear that mouldy cheeses are a goer! I think I'll invest in some tablets and try and incorporate some of the other foods you mentioned too. Think my digestion could use the help!

Thank you @Janefx40 🌻 I knew it would be difficult with a newborn but I didn't foresee it being quite this difficult! It's been quite a ride so far. Hope all's well with you and your little one too 🙂

Today has been pretty good. Lots of rushing around with DS - we live within walking distance of the town centre so getting some exercise taking him places, picking up the shopping etc. My ankle is feeling a lot better today (phew!) so will get back to nice long walks with him in his carrier tomorrow. Not sure of the when and how I can do what exercises postpartum so need to look into that a bit more.

On the food front, I've had porridge with chia seeds and cacao nibs for breakfast, half a panini with salad and a few crisps for lunch, beef casserole, veggies and a little crumble and custard for dinner. I've also had a mocha and a tonic water and grabbed a few slices of chorizo as a omg-im-so-hunrgy-but-baby-is-screaming snack 👶🏻

Hope you've all had a good day x
