It feels like a life time ago I joined a mumsnet thread when I was obease and in my mid twenties.

With support from that thread, 100 in jokes and a patented claim to being "The best thread on mumsnet" TM I lost 6 stone.

Then life, babies, the pandemic and a million other things happened and I am dangerously dancing with being overweight again.

If any one new or old would like to join me in my new mumsnet weight loss journey I'll be here, any mode any method any size I am happy for the company.

Can I join - I don’t know any of you and my youngest is 10! Years….

An horrendous few years and steroids have fluffed me up. I will go and weigh later- I have no idea where to start although carbs and sugar are my downfall - I lost loads 12 years ago by just cutting out carbs - anyone doing this? Thanks

TVHubbyClaire · 13/08/2023 09:22

HappySunday everyone!

Not a happy start as i got on scales for first time in ages and saw 12st 11...thats a minimum of 9 to lose and preferably 12...

A full day out today with big breakfast and likely numerous drinks this afternoon and evening so things are likely going in the complete opposite direction...eek

Ninjago22 · 13/08/2023 09:41

Ha @MountainDweller I too was in absolute awe of @HairsprayBabe You were so motivated and can still see that now! Actually the whole tribe was incredibly focussed - that's why it helped me I think!

Not able to exercise as I did is frustrating as that always motivated me to make better food choices. I finished C25K last time and was at the fittest I think I'd ever been in my life when health started to go down the pan which is just rude 😂

I've always been very much all or nothing with diets so having to try and learn a new way to do it. I did 16:8 last time. I have been doing that for a couple of months before August but I still wasn't making good choices in the 8 hours and the scales wouldn't budge so I don't think it counted 😂😂 I was blaming meds but I think I was combatting tiredness with binge eating rather than sleep!

This month I've decided to go for fasts instead and am giving the 5:2 a go (has been 4:3 due to the way childcare has panned out which has given me a kickstart). It's been really good actually - on fast days I don't have to think about me and I can dish up for DS and know the kitchen is closed. Am seeing good results so far but think it's probably a whoosh of water weight!

I’ve had a stomach bug and been running around after a baby all week. Lost four pounds!

BitOutOfPractice · 13/08/2023 09:57

I lost 4 stone in 2018. I was lovely and slim for my 50th. Now I’m fat again. Why will I never learn?!

Badhairday101 · 13/08/2023 10:04

Can I join too please? Currently 14 stone and want to be 12. I've lost 9lb in the last month by sticking to 1300 calories and haven't been eating until 1pm. I'm planning on starting couch to 5k tomorrow. It was going to be today but I went out last night and have a hangover.

Limonatamum · 13/08/2023 10:08

@Badhairday101 i might start C25K with you! I did it back in uni and loved it

Ninjago22 · 13/08/2023 11:55

@BitOutOfPractice it's easier said than done., Don't beat yourself up. I've always been a yo-yoer and I've been trying to find a bit more of a healthy relationship with food as I know I'm an emotional eater and I eat when I'm tired. It's so hard as you have to eat every day so it's a constant battle of making consistently good choices.

I have been 19stone down to just under 11stone and everything in between- I have clothes in pretty much every size from a 10-22. I don't know what the secret is to keeping it off but you did it before. Just be kind to yourself. Sounds like we've all had a lot of changes over these last few years, but glad to be back and have some folk to keep me accountable.

BitOutOfPractice · 13/08/2023 12:02

Yes my life has changed immeasurably in the last 6 years, kids left home, menopause, moved to a new town, new office. It’s been quite the journey. I’m very happily settled and thriving. Now is the time to tackle my health and fitness.

pickledandpuzzled · 13/08/2023 12:03

I weigh in KG every day, but I measure loss in lbs! Madness.

I'm weighing in at 92 at the moment. I'd like to get to the overweight marker of BMI, rather than obese. That's 85kg.

Badhairday101 · 13/08/2023 12:24

@Limonatamum that would be great. I always get a few weeks in and then stop so would like to actually complete it this time.

PetitPorpoise · 13/08/2023 13:40

Socialising night out of the way, so I feel like I can concentrate now.

Having been on holiday last week, we've got barely any food in which is a good thing, because I've persuaded DH to give Whole 30 a go after our upcoming camping trip. So this week, I'm planning on making good choices, whilst also using up the dairy and carbs we already have so that I can then restock with only Whole 30 stuff.

Today i've had three slices of a thin crust pizza and later I'm going to have roast chicken with carrots and brocolli.

BitOutOfPractice · 13/08/2023 14:13

so far I’ve had gone made fluffy American pancakes with bacon (323 calories). Dinner tonight is a chicken with chorizo and beans recipe from the Blood Sugar Diet book. Do you remember that book? We’ve dusted it off. With milk for tea and coffee that’ll be 853 total. So room for some snacks.

I’ve also been to the gym and done W4D1 of C25k so that’s 16 minutes running.

god I’m making myself sick now 😬

pickledandpuzzled · 13/08/2023 14:53

Has anyone else found that food loses its power after a while? I'm so much less interested in what I eat. I still love good food, but am happy enough to just eat whatever i need for fuel a lot of the time.

So I bake and cook good meals, but lunches and breakfasts are a bit more random- tub of cottage cheese, apple and a handful of nuts. I'm not so bothered about it being actively nice/comfort food as I used to be.

jods19 · 13/08/2023 15:07

I would love to join in! Haven't got any kids but the love for pizza and lasagna 😍😍😍🤣

Duchessofspace · 13/08/2023 15:11

I’m 13 stone 8 my heaviest in my life - no one no clothes fit and I have pain in every single joint 😱
Im tiny height wise so obese.

My daughter and I have just cleared out the baking cupboard and I made fresh soup in the soup maker and I’m also cooking fresh bread for the children!!

Hodgepodge211 · 13/08/2023 16:19

Interesting reading how everyone else is doing it! I lost 4 stone during Covid lockdown as I just walked with my son in a pram (mat leave) and had no social events. Gained 3 back, and figuring how how to do it now. I've lost 8 already by doing a bodge job fast - 800 x 2 days, then low cal other days. Plus gym (strength) and walking. But I feel a bit scattergun and want to get a proper plan - so will be taking inspiration!

Also, dreading (from a weight loss perspective) the fact that next week I go on holiday - a week with husband, 4YO and parents in law. Any tips on not gaining my whole 8lb back?!!!

Ninjago22 · 13/08/2023 18:43

@pickledandpuzzled

that's a really interesting thought. I grew up around someone always on a diet and there was no body positivity - I was put on diets as a kid when I really didn't need to be on one and so developed a really unhealthy relationship with food. Dieting then always meant huge restrictions rules and all kinds of snake oil products and I can see how harmful that mindset was for me now. Since having my own DS, I've become mindful about how I speak about my body and food and nothing is off limits or 'bad', and it's all about moderation. I didn't realise how often I thought about food, feeling guilty about eating something rather than actually enjoying it and how often I would put myself down or comment on my own weight until I actively tried to stop it. Has taken me a long time to see that food is just food, so it has definitely lost its power in many ways. One big meal or a treat here and there doesn't mean you're going to gain a stone overnight.

Realise that all sounds very virtuous for someone who is 3st+ overweight and earlier confessed to being a binge eater but my mindset has been the biggest shift for me. I think that's probably I find fasting works for me. It is restrictive in some sense but on the off days I can eat 'normally' and naturally balance healthier food with the less healthy but nothing is really off limits which stops me going too overboard on any rules or restrictions.

I think it was you @pickledandpuzzled who posted about not wanting to be too restrictive or put too many rules in place and that's where I am too. Trying to be focussed but not obsessed!

Ninjago22 · 13/08/2023 18:47

You're definitely on it @BitOutOfPractice well done! Pancakes sound good. Which recipe do you use? I had totally forgotten about the blood sugar book. Good plan.

I'm on a fast day today. Met a friend for coffee and managed to bypass the cake. I'm taking that as a victory in itself. Thinking it'll save me a fortune in the long run too- Win-win 😇

theotherfossilsister · 13/08/2023 19:13

Hello I'm bad at keeping up with these threads but will jump on for now (if there's a WhatsApp group I'm better at that weirdly, don't know why.)

Currently 12stone and need to be nine as I'm short. Had a lot of trauma lately, as well as the most beautiful baby in the world, and have really let myself go with the excuse that 'thete are more important things.'

Would love to get down to nine stone by January.

hoophoophooray · 13/08/2023 19:48

I need to lose 5 stone of baby weight - the baby in question is not helping as she's doing GCSE Food Tech and keeps baking cake...

Been overweight for so long but hitting mid 40's means everything has started to ache and I MUST lose weight.

not a scooby how to go about it though... going to try MyFitnessPal and counting and see if that works.

I reckon I'm 16st9 and need to be about 11.5 stone...

Pennylope32 · 13/08/2023 22:02

i need the motivation I get days of being really good then if my kids have been driving me Insane I stuff my face!! Or drink lol 😂

poorpaws · 14/08/2023 07:58

Good morning everyone,

For my Monday morning weigh-in, the first of this thread, but by no means the first this year, I am 10 stone 10 3/4, so that's a loss of 3/4 of a pound this week which I'm absolutely delighted with. As I said earlier, I'm taking it very slowly now, because every time I try to do anything more I fail. As long as the scales go down, even by the tiniest amount, I'm happy.

I hope those weighing in today have a good weigh in. I'm excited to see everyone's numbers at the start of our new time together.

Have a good day everyone.

WILTYjim · 14/08/2023 08:01

Starting the day with a new atomic habit! Off for a walk.

No alcohol this week. I’m building up to quitting altogether but I’m not ready yet. I eat very badly when I’m drinking so I know this will make the biggest difference.
