The Saxenda Sisterhood

Hi all,

As the last thread is filling up I thought I'd start a new one so we don't get lost.

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight_loss_chat/4788207-im-starting-saxenda-this-week

This is the follow up from "I'm starting Saxenda this week" I'm personally journaling my way to a hopefully healthier and happier life. I'm journaling what I'm eating, the weight I'm losing (and gaining) and trying to see the positives outweigh the negatives on a daily basis. I'm joined on this thread and journey by many amazing women who are all very supportive and who are also sharing as much or as little as they like.

I'm finding I'm opening this thread instead of opening the cupboards, the fridge and the food delivery app on my phone and feeling less in my struggles and frustration and writing about my days makes me realize my life isn't all bad.

I'm thankful for all the voices in this thread and feel supported by the sisterhood of women from all over facing the same body struggles as I am.

I post some pictures and photos and I really like it when others do too.

If you're new please join us if you want to and let us know how you're getting on with your Saxenda journey. Come here for compliments when you deserve them and commiseration when you need some. You're welcome whatever your age, wherever you are and if you have 1kg or 10 stone to loose.

I've been on Saxenda for 10 weeks and lost 9.2kg (1st 6.2lbs) so far. I started at over 96kg and am now 87 and a bit. I have at least another 20kg to go to be happy with how I look - but knowing that the Saxenda sisterhood is here makes the journey seem less intimidating.

I’m still on it, got down to 2 stone off at end January but then I must have psychologically relaxed cos 2 pound went back on, then almost lost, then a weeks holiday so put back on again. Today I got back to the two stone off mark but I’ve had to increase to 1.2 from 0.6 to kickstart weight loss again. Still I’m sticking with it whereas in the past if I’d put on I would have lost faith with dieting altogether

Hi, sorry for jumping on this thread, been using Saxenda since May and really not wanting to switch. Does anyone have any suggestions on suppliers (with stock) in Scotland. Frustratingly local Boots has supplies but they wont allow ordering.
Bit nervous about online pharmacies incase they are not reputable so looking for recommendations

ThisMustBeMyDream · 07/03/2024 23:01

Yes, same problem with Boots for me. They won't turn the order button on unless they can supply enough people according to their message to me. Even though local ones have it in! Very frustrating!
I've been getting it from Manual.co since December, but it is too expensive for me at full price. I've had discounts on my 3 orders thus far. But if I can't get it with a discount, then I'm going to have to stop. It's £375 a month 😱.

Its a nightmare. Despite lots of messages Boots keep telling me to try switching to the others... (and double the price 🙄)
I looked at Manual but its only giving me the option for the other pens.. not Saxenda
Wonder if they are not supplying new customers 🙄

Namechange602 · 08/03/2024 11:58

I've bought Saxenda from Manual but yes, way too expensive and even though existing customer still not offering me Saxenda.

And I'm another feeling the tiredness since I've had to up my dose. By 9 I'm falling asleep on the sofa. DH has been away for much of the last month due to his parents being ill and the dog is getting fed up with his last walk being so early as I need to go to bed!

Think I'm going to try Wegovy. Is it possible to increase it more slowly like the Saxenda is? For example, if I buy a 1mg pen, can I count the clicks and set the initial dose to .25 to start with then increase it as I feel I need to?

justsaxy · 11/03/2024 17:37

My pharmacist just told me that Saxanda isn't made anymore, and I should
Move over to Wegovy... 😞

I gave up trying to find any and today started on Mounjaro…

justsaxy · 15/03/2024 05:21

How are you feeling so far @Namechange602 ?

Namechange602 · 18/03/2024 16:56

Hi @justsaxy

Okay from the pov of side-effects. Better in fact that on the Saxenda as I'm not exhusted by 8pm which is nice.

However, I'm feeling much of an effect yet. It's been 4 days and I could still eat as usual if I wanted to. Maybe a little fuller sooner having my main meal in the evening perhaps? Still craving sugar, not averse to wine... On Saxenda I lost about a stone and a half while still on the 0.6 dose so I'd hoped for more but maybe it will kick in on subsequent doses and higher doses?

Haven't weighed as also TOTM. Mind you, now I think about it I haven't eaten every carb in the house so maybe it is having an effect after all?

Did you move to Wegovy?

justsaxy · 18/03/2024 18:38

Oh that is good news about the exhaustion. That has hit me hard... and hurrah to not eating all the carbs.

I have stayed on Saxenda for the moment, I have 22 pens left (I managed to score loads!) but am sticking to 1.8 to try and make them last. That seems to be the sweet spot for me.

So, I am ok for the moment, but my medical insurance just started covering Wegovy so I may have to move over to that eventually.

Everdecreasingcircumferences · 25/03/2024 15:18

Hi All,
After limited success with Saxenda I moved on to Wegovy, which did absolutely nothing for me in the end regardless of dosage.
I was feeling rather dejected about spending all that money for 6 months with nothing to show for it, but decided to give the jabs one last go as shifting the weight on my own just hasn't been working.
I've just moved up to 5mg Mounjaro after 4 weeks on 2.5mg and it does appear to be working so far. The real test will be whether I can get to below 90kg, as I haven't been there in over 20 years. It's given me hope again, the jabs all work slightly differently so it's not surprising that some of us respond differently to others.
I hope you're finding your way to a healthy new way of eating regardless of how you are getting there (I've added protein powder and chia seeds to my daily diet and upped my meat consumption which appears to be helping). I've really appreciated your support along the way.

All the best

Has anyone any experience with ordering a prescription online for Saxenda then finding a pharmacy to supply. Came across an online pharmacy who will send a prescription and I have to source the Saxenda and pay for it when i source it.

Just wondered how this works and if anyone had done it (im in Scotland)

ThisMustBeMyDream · 27/03/2024 21:54

I saw that earlier and considered it as I know some Boots stores did have it but they won't turn on the ordering as they don't have enough of it. However I decided it wasn't worth the £20 if I couldn't find it elsewhere.

I've just ordered from pharmacy online. I'll let you know if it comes. I ordered 2 pens at £150 to hopefully last me a month as I've gone down to 1.2mg. Although today I was really hungry after dinner still so I may need to go back to 1.8mg.

My weight loss is SO slow now. Barely 0.5lb a week. I've lost 2lb in March. 2.5lb in Feb. Very frustrating!

So 2 weeks ago I finally joined a gym. I've been going 3 times each week. Doing 20 min cardio warm up, 60 min weights, 10 min cardio cool down. Not made one iota of bloody difference yet! The only pounds I'm down are the financial kind! No inches lost. I actually cried before going as I was so anxious about it. Really didn't want to do it, but knew I had to try something else now. Still hate it, but I can grin and bare it.

This has definitely gotten harder and requiring much more willpower than previously. However I hope it is a good sign that my willpower is strong enough to keep this weight off after I come off the medication.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 27/03/2024 21:55

This is my graph BTW. You can see how bloody slow it has become!

dottyp0104 · 27/03/2024 22:30

Im on my last pen and stringing it out at 0.6 to try and make it last longer.
I joined the gym last may... after a lot of dread. To be fair it didnt make masses of difference lb wise but did inches. Keel going with it, took a good 8 weeks before it became noticable to others but was definately worthwhile.

I was thinking of calling a few pharmacies to see what the cost of a pen would be if i bought the £20 prescription.

Newmum110 · 28/03/2024 17:28

@ThisMustBeMyDream your graph is amazing, I'm am starting my journey this week & honestly if I get results like your I would be delighted. Be mega proud of how far you have come, it's amazing.

Weight will slow down the more you lose (or the closer you get to your goal) but you are still losing, so WELL DONE!!!!

I'm away from home for 3 weeks, in a country where I do not speak the language at all. Am trying not to
Make ridiculous food choices but it's not easy. Let's see what happens when I get home...

Am
Sticking with 1.8 at the moment, to make pens last as long as possible...

ThisMustBeMyDream · 14/04/2024 00:27

How's it going on your trip @justsaxy?

I'm 4 weeks post joining the gym and have found myself getting fitter and fitter. And for once in my life, I'm not hating it! It's a bloody miracle! First 2 weeks felt horrible, but the more I do, the better it feels! I've upped my cardio to 40 mins and 1 hr weights. I have so much more energy after I've been too!

I've taken some more progress pics this week at my mums request. Scales moving quicker again now, 3lb over the last 2 weeks. Woohoo! I'm still eeking out the sax, at 1.2. The order from pharmacy online arrived just fine. I'm also being stricter with calorie counting now. 1290 a day. Which is fine, but I could definitely go over these days.

So I've hit the 4.5st loss. 63.5lb. Or 28kg. 1.5st to go! It's the home stretch! I know I'm going to cry when I hit the 11's... I want to be in them by June!

justsaxy · 14/04/2024 06:12

@ThisMustBeMyDream

YOU LOOK AMAZING!!!!!!

Well done!!!
You are inspiring me, I need to get exercising now. I have a rowing machine but haven't used it, I don't know why I am a little scared of it when I really shouldn't be!

I fly home today after 23 days away. I haven't weighed myself and haven't gone bananas but I also haven't denied myself anything.

Let's see what the damage is tomorrow morning when I get on the scales.

I did go clothes shopping whilst I have been away and I am a bit thrilled because I was able to get a size 16 trousers on. They only just did up and looked horrendous on me, but... I GOT THEM OVER MY THIGHS AND BELLY AND DID UP THROUGH ZIP! I was a 22/20 in December...

Am going to set myself up to actually get on the rowing machine now after seeing your photos!!!
Keep it up! Grin

Radish12 · 14/04/2024 07:39

You look brilliant @ThisMustBeMyDream !! Look at the definition in your stomach!

Well done to you too @justsaxy - it's such a nice feeling to get something zipped up that wouldn't have even gone over your bum a little while ago!

I'm still going on Wegovy but obviously still following this thread and love seeing updates. I've just hit my 3st loss and am about 4lbs away from a healthy BMI. Would like to lose another couple of stone if I can, hopefully they'll keep supplying to me. Feeling amazing overall ☺️

@Radish12 well done too!!! I have managed to stock up on Saxenda so have a 6 months supply if I continue at this rate. I have another thread, Saxenda buddies, if you want to join. It's also slow but it's keeping me going as I have no one in RL going through similar... (and I prefer not to share with everyone).

Newmum110 · 14/04/2024 20:36

Just wondering if anyone can offer me advice, I tried to move up to 1.8 after 3 weeks as was beginning to feel hungry & omg I was sooooo unwell. Shaking, light headed, ended up vomiting. Went back to 1.2 but ended up eating all around me for the weekend. Should I try the 1.8 again or maybe try 1.2 & a few clicks??? Had to miss work I was so unwell & can't be doing that on a regular basis

ThisMustBeMyDream · 14/04/2024 22:10

I would try 1.5, so it's 1.2 then 5 clicks.

I remember having a vomit when I moved up to 1.2 and had to go back down to 0.6 and stayed at that for a good few weeks. No problems with it since though, and I've gone all the way up to 3 and back down again since 🙈.

@justsaxy I'm jealous of your supply! If I'm honest I thought I'd nearly be at my target now with the 1/2 stone a month losses I was getting at first. I've been terribly grumpy about the slow down! I reckon I need a few more months on it. I go away in August so I really really want to be at my target weight by then! 16 weeks... 19.5lb... it might be a challenge 😬. I hope I can get hold of it until then. I'm concerned that I'm close to a BMI of 30 now and places won't supply it. Has anyone else had this issue? My final target still puts my BMI at 27.9 and in the overweight category. But I know that's sustainable for me. I can't afford to buy a big supply of it either as finances are super tight right now and this is my one indulgence. Good luck on the scales tomorrow! And fantastic non scale victory with the trousers! I'm still in my 16 jeans, even though I'm in 12/14 tops and dresses. Always been bottom heavy!

@Radish12 don't worry, there is no real definition there! Still a good roll of chub and a section overhang for good measure! It's amazing what we'll sized clothes can do!!

Good luck for the week ahead! My target this week is to try and learn some new weight lifting moves for the gym! Especially ones to combat the old bingo wings!

dottyp0104 · 14/04/2024 23:45

Gave up trying to get Saxenda... have just ordered Mounjaro 🙄

ThisMustBeMyDream · 15/04/2024 07:52

Did my weekly weigh today (I daily weigh but log on a Monday for the trend). Absolutely shocked that I've had a 3lb loss this week given my really slow losses over the last few months. 12st 4.5 today. I can feel those 11's coming to get me! Come on! I can do this!!!
