The Saxenda Sisterhood

Hi all,

As the last thread is filling up I thought I'd start a new one so we don't get lost.

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight_loss_chat/4788207-im-starting-saxenda-this-week

This is the follow up from "I'm starting Saxenda this week" I'm personally journaling my way to a hopefully healthier and happier life. I'm journaling what I'm eating, the weight I'm losing (and gaining) and trying to see the positives outweigh the negatives on a daily basis. I'm joined on this thread and journey by many amazing women who are all very supportive and who are also sharing as much or as little as they like.

I'm finding I'm opening this thread instead of opening the cupboards, the fridge and the food delivery app on my phone and feeling less in my struggles and frustration and writing about my days makes me realize my life isn't all bad.

I'm thankful for all the voices in this thread and feel supported by the sisterhood of women from all over facing the same body struggles as I am.

I post some pictures and photos and I really like it when others do too.

If you're new please join us if you want to and let us know how you're getting on with your Saxenda journey. Come here for compliments when you deserve them and commiseration when you need some. You're welcome whatever your age, wherever you are and if you have 1kg or 10 stone to loose.

I've been on Saxenda for 10 weeks and lost 9.2kg (1st 6.2lbs) so far. I started at over 96kg and am now 87 and a bit. I have at least another 20kg to go to be happy with how I look - but knowing that the Saxenda sisterhood is here makes the journey seem less intimidating.

I am after some advice.

I started taking Saxenda on Wed 0.6mg, I napped for 2 hours on Wed afternoon, then since Friday I havent really been able to get out of bed/wanted to go out the house to do anything. I injected at 8am each day but specifically on Fri and Sun, I had breakfast then fell asleep for another 3 hours on top of the 7hrs overnight sleep. I went to my local mall just now and after half an hour had to come home as I had no energy or impetus to do anything, How long does the fatigue stage last?

Footgoose · 05/11/2023 08:04

Morning@NorseKiwi . I didn’t get the symptoms of lethargy until a higher dose and they didnt last the whole of the course . Could you have caught a virus ? Are you eating enough ? Hopefully it will pass . The advice is not to move up the doses until your body adjusts . Good luck. X

NorseKiwi · 05/11/2023 08:36

Thanks @Footgoose I am thinking of switching to injecting at 10pm before bed to see if that gets rid of the tiredness

Bobsgettingitdone · 05/11/2023 17:12

@NorseKiwi Hi fellow kiwi. I switched to nights to combat nausea and fatigue. It has helped with nausea, but the fatigue is still sticking with me. It's quite debilitating.

I found if I eat a wee bit more and concentrate on staying really hydrated it helps somewhat. I'm starting week 3 and have gone back to 0.6 to see if I can get rid of the fatigue. Good luck ! If you find any solutions, I'd love to hear. 😊

ThisMustBeMyDream · 06/11/2023 10:56

@NorseKiwi good luck with sorting the side effects. I hope they settle for you. I would stick with the low dose for as long as you can before increasing.

Week 26 here. Officially 6 months on saxenda this week. Weigh in today is 1.5lb off. 13st 9.5. BMI finally under 35!

Starting weight was 16st 13.
6 month weight 13st 9.5.
So in 6 months I've lost 3 st 2.5lb. Or 44.5lb. 🎉 Best weight loss I've ever had. And by far the easiest.

NorseKiwi · 06/11/2023 22:22

Well injecting at 9pm was a good move for me. I had a greats night sleep and I woke up feeling relatively refreshed, its a relief to want to leave the house today and do stuff!

I havent had any other side effects apart from fatigue on day 6!
There is no way I can up my dose tomorrow evening for week two. I am going to stick to 0.6mg I think until I get this level under control.

I've taken to looking to instagram for advice about other peoples experiences. Its crazy where you have to look for info these days. I called my pharmacist yesterday for some advice, they had none to offer me!

I am so impressed with your weight loss @ThisMustBeMyDream I hope I can have a 3 stone loss at 6 months too!

Everdecreasingcircumferences · 08/11/2023 12:05

Hi All

Had a break from the thread as have been struggling with the reality that I'm never going to shift this weight. Am on highest dose of wegovy and honestly it's having no effect whatsoever. Still as hungry as ever, still craving sugar. I weigh 3lb less than when I started on Saxenda before the summer.
I had high hopes that these extortionate jabs would be the kick start I needed to finally tackle this demon but unfortunately I'm not one of the lucky ones for whom this stuff works. I have no nausea, no gastric issues, no effects of any kind. No idea why I'm not responding to it the way so many others have, I can only dream about getting 'ozempic face' and feel I've wasted £1000 I didn't really have.
Sorry to be a downer, I'm going to keep plodding with this current pen for another 3 weeks but don't think there's much point in buying any more as I've not lost the 5% body weight I shouldhave in the first 12 weeks. This stuff had been a wonderful weightloss aid for so many people, but we're all different and some of us just don't respond to it.

NorseKiwi · 09/11/2023 00:42

oh @Everdecreasingcircumferences I know how you feel. I have been overweight for most of my life, its the thing I will battle most with, all my friends and family are on my weight loss and gain journey! I feel you.

Well, update on injecting at 9pm at night helps me have a good nights sleep and I wake up feeling relatively refreshed, it could be a coincidence but the fatigue has stopped. I can kind of see how it suppresses your appetite, but I am not eating only 1400 calories a day or anything just yet. I have a busy 2 days ahead so I don't dare up the dose beyond 0.6, so I'll be on 0.6 for 10days until I can have a lazy day and it doesn't matter if I am fatigued all day! I haven't had any of the other known symptoms, apart from a tiny bit of heartburn. I did see a woman on instagram say that when you go to load up the pen and you going from say 1.2 to 1.8, say its 10 clicks to move up, she would just do 4 extra clicks from 1.2 for 2 days which stopped with the nausea and it was a tiny step up for 2 days and then go up to full 1.8 after 2 days.

MammaWeasel · 14/11/2023 13:26

Does anyone else NOT get the "full" feeling with saxenda? I'm on the full dose, and while it takes away my hunger and calms down the food chatter in my head, for which I am very grateful, I just don't feel full while taking it. I really need to feel full, and I was hoping that saxenda would do this for me.

I haven't posted on this thread before, but I have been following it. Ì am prescribed saxenda by the hospital

Bobsgettingitdone · 14/11/2023 18:40

@MammaWeasel
I get the full feeling.
But I also get fatigue - do you experience tiredness?

MammaWeasel · 14/11/2023 18:57

Hi, Thank you for replying ☺

I do get fatigue but it's hard to say whether it's saxenda or my bipolar meds which cause it. Thinking about it, I am more fatigued since starting saxenda.

NorseKiwi · 14/11/2023 21:44

I have been taking it for 2 weeks now. I find that my sleep is incredibly deep, its like I have been drugged - well I have with my own injections. I tend to inject between 8-10pm and I am hoping that I can sleep through most of the fatigue.

Bobsgettingitdone · 14/11/2023 21:50

@NorseKiwi

Hi Fellow Kiwi - I'm in my 5th week - but moving up the doses slowly. Did my first dose of 1.8 last night.

I've also had flu - so praying the chronic fatigue may be due to that - although it started prior to getting the flu. Feeling okay today - might even go for a walk later.

Nights seem to work better for me too.

Wishing you every success and look forward to reading about your progress. :-)

ThisMustBeMyDream · 14/11/2023 22:40

Another week (think it's 27!) for me. 1.5lb loss, taking me to 13st 8. Total loss 3st 5lb.i love watching the graph move down and my bmi too! 😍.
No symptoms. I've been very lucky, I realise this. I wish it worked as well for everyone.

NorseKiwi · 15/11/2023 00:19

Well I havent dared weigh myself this week, it seems like it takes a few weeks for the weight to come off. Last week I weighed myself and a had put on a kilo - mostly because I was eating (ice cream to cheer myself up) because I was so tired and couldn't go out for 3 days. Today has been a fortnight of injections and I am only on day 3 of 1.2

Its only when I went up to 1.2 that I got some nausea, I had some sponge cake after lunch and that brought it on - so lesson learnt.

I am liking that there is another Kiwi on this thread too @Bobsgettingitdone

Re feeling full @MammaWeasel I find I get more of a nothingness. Not hungry not full just I don't feel like or need anything its an in-between state is how I would best describe it. I felt the same when I was taking speed based tablets very quickly after a meal I wouldn't feel full - just nothing.

I am going away in a months time back to the UK for Xmas and I am hoping after being on Saxenda for 6 weeks that I wont have any side effects to spoil being away.

Does anyone have any tips on how to make sure the pens stay cold for a 30hr plane journey? The nurse said not to put the pens directly on an ice block as it can freeze them. Do you have to show them before you go through security how does it all work? I am going to get the prescription copy of letter from my GP to fly with. Do you keep the needles in the same cool bag to show? I am flying via the Qatar and the USA.

Scottishlanza · 15/11/2023 12:44

@NorseKiwi i bought an insulin travel cooler case off amazon

MammaWeasel · 15/11/2023 16:36

Thank you @norsekiwi xxx

NorseKiwi · 15/11/2023 21:44

Ah thanks @Scottishlanza I never would have thought to have looked for that! I'll order two now!

ThisMustBeMyDream · 21/11/2023 10:31

Week 28 and a 2lb loss this week brings me to 3.5st loss! I'm on target to have lost 4st for Christmas and in to the 12st bracket! I couldn't be any happier. Weight now is 13st 6. It now suddenly feels achievable to get to my target as I'm over half way.

Has anyone else noticed this? My ability to lose weight on higher calories is much better. Initially 1200 cals would see me lose 2lb a week. But now 1400-1500 gives me the same loss. I had anticipated needing less calories the lower my weight got but that hasn't seemed to happen yet. The opposite really!

Scottishlanza · 21/11/2023 11:58

@ThisMustBeMyDream just anecdotally as I’m not medically trained. I think that if you were insulin resistant before then you will have been storing any carbs you ate as fat. By using the liraglutide your body uses the carbs you eat for fuel rather than storing them. Therefore your body is now processing 1500 calories better than it did 1200. Like I said just from my experience and reading
