The Saxenda Sisterhood

Hi all,

As the last thread is filling up I thought I'd start a new one so we don't get lost.

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight_loss_chat/4788207-im-starting-saxenda-this-week

This is the follow up from "I'm starting Saxenda this week" I'm personally journaling my way to a hopefully healthier and happier life. I'm journaling what I'm eating, the weight I'm losing (and gaining) and trying to see the positives outweigh the negatives on a daily basis. I'm joined on this thread and journey by many amazing women who are all very supportive and who are also sharing as much or as little as they like.

I'm finding I'm opening this thread instead of opening the cupboards, the fridge and the food delivery app on my phone and feeling less in my struggles and frustration and writing about my days makes me realize my life isn't all bad.

I'm thankful for all the voices in this thread and feel supported by the sisterhood of women from all over facing the same body struggles as I am.

I post some pictures and photos and I really like it when others do too.

If you're new please join us if you want to and let us know how you're getting on with your Saxenda journey. Come here for compliments when you deserve them and commiseration when you need some. You're welcome whatever your age, wherever you are and if you have 1kg or 10 stone to loose.

I've been on Saxenda for 10 weeks and lost 9.2kg (1st 6.2lbs) so far. I started at over 96kg and am now 87 and a bit. I have at least another 20kg to go to be happy with how I look - but knowing that the Saxenda sisterhood is here makes the journey seem less intimidating.

Hello new thread!!

It’s weigh in day for me, down another 1.5lbs this week giving me a total loss of 22.5lbs in 7 weeks. I am definitely happy with it and starting to feel the difference, but not over the moon that it seems to be levelling out at 1.5lbs a week over the last 3 weeks or so. All in right direction but going to try to be extra good this week and see if can ramp it up a bit.

I’m still on 1.8 dose as it is working and due to supply issues don’t want to increase the dose if I can avoid it, but I am finding I can eat bit more at times now, bit like it’s easier to override but only if I choose to, have had some events etc so need to stick to the salads this week!

Ive managed to order some pens, off to see if they are actually at the pharmacy to collect!

justsaxy · 04/07/2023 14:47

Yeah! Merci!

Checking in! 👋

Thankyou @Saxendastarter

Saxendastarter · 04/07/2023 16:11

Ahhh As you've probably noticed by how much I'm posting I can't concentrate today....

I'm working from home and have been at my desk since stupid early but am sorting of working one hour and faffing one hour. My saxenda injection really stung this morning. I've been pretty hungry all day and had 2 bubble teas I had in the fridge and a Vietnamese steamed bun in the morning and finished some of the curry from yesterday from the fridge for lunch. I'm really excited because FPTOM is at a job interview (5th interview with last company so it's serious negotiation stage. I really want him to get the job but at the same time don't want him to leave current company before me and I know he won't negotiate a longer notice period as he's done with our ridiculous work load - honestly I think we've both checked out anyway after too many years of 70 hour weeks. As I said in a previous post, I can't interview until I've lost a lot more weight... So I'll find a new job after him. God I can't wait for the end of July and the long long walk under 3 weeks to go. I'm so excited and looking forward to it.

It’s day 2 for me. I don’t have any nausea, but I’m finding it hard to get food down. I’ve stuck to plain things that I wouldn’t necessarily eat usually, like Ritz crackers & a mugshot for lunch.

My actual meals were never that bad, it was the snacking which was my undoing. I could demolish a tube of Pringles or a whole bag of Haribo. I’m hoping the Saxenda will help me knock that on the head.

Checking in 👋🏻

CiderJabs · 04/07/2023 16:42

Hello sisters!

Today marks the end of the 6th week for me. I've been feeling quite nauseous which thankfully means I've not eaten much. The painkillers are having their wicked ways with me and I've slept for the last 4 hours. It's only the 4th day in my recovery and I'm already fed up.

I'm determined to get active next week and will try to do some core / toning exercises at home as I can't go to the gym for 4 weeks and can't do any high impact. If anyone fancies joining me let me know!

greyhairnomore · 04/07/2023 17:38

I'd love to comment. I will when I can hold of some ☹️😂

Sotiredmjmmy · 04/07/2023 18:23

Well my prescription collection didn’t go to plan! If you did a click and collect Asda order yesterday it’s only ok if the pharmacy had stock in already on their shelves, the pharmacy I ordered mine didn’t actually have enough when I ordered so have a partial order and they are going to try the supplier tomorrow for to get the rest of the pens but not holding out much hope as Asda are showing online as out of stock again now grrrrrr!

And it was a 2 hour round trip!

Oneearringlost · 04/07/2023 18:41

Where are you getting Saxenda at the moment?
I have another 2 + stone to get to normal BMI but my lab blood glucose ( taken 4 days ago) is dropping..

Hopeful1984 · 04/07/2023 19:27

Hi All. Ive been lurking on these threads for a few days now. Ive been prescribed saxenda but not starting until friday as the nurse is administering the first shot for me and i couldnt get an appointment until then.

I have PCOS and after being skinny all through my teens and twenties i struggled with weight after coming off the pill and having kids. Im 100kgs which is just so depressing and something has to give as its affecting all facets of my life. Despite this drug being flagged by my endocrinologist going back some time i wanted another baby so delayed going back on it. But i have now gained so much weight and the pcos has made my periods so irregular that without losing some weight and trying to get my symptoms under control there is little chance i would get pregnant anyway.

Im scared and excited to start. While im looking forward to hopefully shedding some weight it feels like ive so much to lose that its a near impossible task.

👋 welcome. Are you nervous about the jabs? I was, but it's been fine. It's not a scary needle. Best of luck as you begin your Saxender journey!

Not nervous about the jab itself. Just nervous about everything else....will i have side effects, will it even work for me? If it does.work will life be boring!! Will i be able to come off it and keep the weight off. Is it safe long term?

So yeah...mind racing with all the what ifs but hopefully ill be reporting back next week that its working and my fears will be alleviated! Om very lucky in that ive been approved to get it free (im in ireland and very strict application and approval process for this)

coolcahuna · 04/07/2023 21:05

Please can I join? I'm on week 5 and lost 10lb so far. I'm only gone up to the 1.2 dose and managing to have about 1300 calories a day. I'm really lucky that my partner is able to do the injection for me most days, he's much better at it than me.

Get waves of nausea but they pass quickly. Totally gone off eggs and wine but don't have enough calories for wine!

Smokeahontas · 04/07/2023 21:58

I have to agree with @BeagleMum1 - I’m the biggest fanny in the world when it comes to needles but I honestly don’t feel it.

I was worried about nausea too, it’s one thing I just can’t deal with. I had a bit of the cold feet thing, same as @Saxendastarter, but only for an hour after the injection so I wear thick socks for that. Luckily I didn’t get nausea but everyone is different.

The only thing I’ve found weird is feeling full all the time. Like constantly full up. It’s been a bit of a struggle to eat cos I don’t want to, but I know I have to.

I have endometriosis and PCOS. The NHS provision where I am is absolutely shocking so I’ve had to use private for most things. My insulin reading is obscene. I’m hoping that if I can lose weight with Saxenda, the bonus of not wanting sugar so often will help me change my eating habits as well. So using it to tackle physical and psychological.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 04/07/2023 22:21

Today I am officially no longer morbidly obese. I'm "just" obese 🙈. Seems like something to celebrate anyway!
Welcome newbies to what could be an absolutely amazing journey! It's hands down the best decision I have ever made in my life.

Everdecreasingcircumferences · 04/07/2023 22:29

Thanks for the new thread OP.

@Smokeahontas I hear you on the snacking, My meals were never too bad (although I did have far more ultra processed foods on my plate in the past than I do now) but I just couldn't control my sugar cravings, especially in the evenings.

I've gone from working too many hours to working shifts, to pregnancy and sickness, to severe sleep deprivation with babies, to managing chronic pain to pregnancy loss and sickness to sleep deprivation to peri menopause. Not excuses, and probably only part of the story, but I am trying to understand how I got here over 20years to help me figure out how not to end up here again if the jabs are successful.

Reducing ultra processed foods helped me shift 4kg over 3 months, starting HRT 2 months ago shifted another 4kg in 4 weeks as it gave me my energy back and killed my snacking habit. I've lost another 2kg since starting saxenda 2 and a bit weeks ago (regained and re-lost those 2kg in the last 10 days) and am at the same lowest weight I’ve previously achieved from traditional diet & exercise just before covid hit and the gyms closed and I had to home school DC2 (a truly dreadful experience).
My food chatter seems to have lessened today (started on 1.8 last night), long may that continue, would be great if I could remain on that dose for a while! Next proper milestone for me is 92 kg, am hoping to reach it by the end of the month - still feels incredible that such a goal doesn't seem completely unachievable anymore!

Everdecreasingcircumferences · 04/07/2023 22:32

@ThisMustBeMyDream that is definitely worth celebrating - well done!

CiderJabs · 05/07/2023 13:29

Welcome newbies!

I'm trying to take a leaf out of Sax's book and keep a food diary while I'm spending the days in bed!
Yesterday
Breakfast - Greek yoghurt with honey & 2 belvita breakfast bars
Lunch - two ryvita crackers with cottage cheese and cucumber, 5 prunes (!) and a banana
Dinner - home made 3 bean soup with half a baguette

I'm 10st 13 this morning which I'm ok with. I must be doing less than 1000 steps a day (even took my Fitbit off) so if I manage to maintain it ir lose a small amount I'll be happy.

I have 2 questions:

  • anyone ever heard or emerald laser treatment?
  • anyone ever took / know anything about xls pills? Asking as I need to make a plan for when my pens run out.
Smokeahontas · 05/07/2023 13:57

@CiderJabs On the XLS pills - I personally don’t, but a girl I used to work was on them. She had to carry a spare pair of knickers & trousers about with her, so make of that what you will…

CiderJabs · 05/07/2023 15:24

@Smokeahontas that's why I was asking. I've heard it's an issue if you eat a fatty meal but can be ok otherwise. Oh I don't know what to do :((
