Hi all,

As the last thread is filling up I thought I'd start a new one so we don't get lost.

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight_loss_chat/4788207-im-starting-saxenda-this-week

This is the follow up from "I'm starting Saxenda this week" I'm personally journaling my way to a hopefully healthier and happier life. I'm journaling what I'm eating, the weight I'm losing (and gaining) and trying to see the positives outweigh the negatives on a daily basis. I'm joined on this thread and journey by many amazing women who are all very supportive and who are also sharing as much or as little as they like.

I'm finding I'm opening this thread instead of opening the cupboards, the fridge and the food delivery app on my phone and feeling less in my struggles and frustration and writing about my days makes me realize my life isn't all bad.

I'm thankful for all the voices in this thread and feel supported by the sisterhood of women from all over facing the same body struggles as I am.

I post some pictures and photos and I really like it when others do too.

If you're new please join us if you want to and let us know how you're getting on with your Saxenda journey. Come here for compliments when you deserve them and commiseration when you need some. You're welcome whatever your age, wherever you are and if you have 1kg or 10 stone to loose.

I've been on Saxenda for 10 weeks and lost 9.2kg (1st 6.2lbs) so far. I started at over 96kg and am now 87 and a bit. I have at least another 20kg to go to be happy with how I look - but knowing that the Saxenda sisterhood is here makes the journey seem less intimidating.

After 5 weeks and 3.5kg- I can't live with the side effects anymore. The fatigue, weakness and the sharp pain in my head isn't sustainable. 4 days off Saxenda and I feel alive again.

Absolutely gutted this drug isn't right for me.... because it was working.

Wish you all the very best in your journey.

Bobbi.

I am on week 3 and I have only just got up to 1.8 in the evenings. Some nights it still knocks me out and I wake up groggy, no great weight loss yet. I am worried about my monthly weigh in with my GP as I wouldn't have lost much.

I take comfort from @Scottishlanza theory at least! My blood sugar was 42/42 so some insulin resistance going on!

NorseKiwi · 27/11/2023 01:54

so after nearly 4 weeks of being exhausted and nearly getting up to 2.4. I put on a kilo! My GP and I agreed I'll carry on, but I've never paid this much to diet and put on weight! I hoping that the weight is going to start falling off when I get to 3mg!

Scottishlanza · 27/11/2023 08:20

@NorseKiwi thats disappointing, have you still been eating a lot of carbs? I found the saxenda cut my carb cravings totally and therefore I lost weight. I haven’t been able to get any saxenda for 4 week so am cold turkey, I’m finding some days I overdo carbs and it really shows on the scales the following day. As long as I reduce carbs I’m still losin, albeit a small amount, without saxenda

NorseKiwi · 30/11/2023 07:52

I am sort of eating carbs sort of not...... tbh I am eating more because I've been feeling tired and not wanting to do much, Saxenda has made me want to stay on the couch a lot more and its summer here now.

I went to my local pharmacy in NZ to collect my 5 pens, which with my original prescription that I've barely used, would tide me over until mid Jan, The pharmacist has rationed me and given me 2 out 5 and said come back in a few weeks for the rest, if we have them. At this rate I'll run out on NYE, a week before I get back to NZ from my holiday abroad! I am on 1.8 which isnt doing too much tbh, so I reckon I'll ramp up to 3mg next week and see what 3 weeks on that does for me!

I am going up to 2.4 for the first time this evening, I hope the fatigue doesn't kick in again, its so so annoying.

justsaxy · 03/12/2023 06:57

Hello all!

Well, I have not been able to lay my hands on any saxander in Switzerland and I am so disappointed.

I am going to the UK at Christmas and debating about attempting to get something there, even if just to help me try it for a few weeks and see how I react.

I have lost 10k just by being attentive and reducing carbs since I joined this group, but I know that won't last forever...

Am going to have to start exercising more than yoga and swimming...

NorseKiwi · 03/12/2023 11:45

Well the 2.4 dose is working a lot better. At this stage I feel hungry for breakast, I have lunch then after lunch I can feel a bit off colour for a couple of hours or so then in the evenings I really don't feel like eating so I can see its working by suppressing my appetite. The fatigue has lifted a lot. However, when I do fall asleep, it knocks me out until the morning, no waking up in he middle of the night these days, it also drowns out my partners snoring too

I really feel for you people not being able to get hold of any, it sucks because its such bugger of a medicine to get used to

justsaxy · 06/12/2023 12:00

I HAVE GOT SOME WEGOVY!!!! It is in my hands right now!!! I cannot believe it!!!

(Now to pluck up the courage to use it)

NorseKiwi · 07/12/2023 01:02

Good luck @justsaxy let us know how you get on with it

Well there seems to be a massive shortage of Saxenda where I live in NZ. I called round 6 pharmacies, until one had some in stock, which I'll collect tomorrow. One pharmacist looked it up on his system and said its 4 months worth of delay from the manufacturer.

I've spent so much time feeling tired in this stuff and I havent lost any weight yet, but I can feel it all kicking in this week, I am wondering if it is worth trying to stay on it tbh if you don't know week to week if you can get any.

FiveShelties · 07/12/2023 04:27

Can I ask what may be a stupid question please?

I have battled my weight for around 50 years, going up and down the scales at regular intervals. I have probably lost stones and stones over the years! My weight gain has never had anything to do with being hungry, it has aways been because I just like to eat, whether hungry or not. So do the injections only make a difference if you just feel hungry a lot?

NorseKiwi · 07/12/2023 09:14

well from my perspective of being 5 weeks in, for some hours of the day it takes away the need to want to eat or not to overeat. Last night me and my boyfriend went out for dinner and we shared the 300g steak and a side of pots and veg. I let him eat more of the potatoes and he had more wine than me. Normally I would order my own 200 or 300g steak and eat it all, with Saxenda I just have this feeling of " I don't want to eat anymore" or if you overeat you feel nausea, so you kinda have that in the back of your mind too. My boyfriend has started eating the food I leave on my plate in a restaurant, I never used to leave food.

There are some evenings if someone said "do you want some chocolate"? I couldn't really stomach it, sometimes a bit like morning sickness, you cant face anything.

FiveShelties · 07/12/2023 09:34

Thank you @NorseKiwi, I am grateful for your response.

(Another Kiwi here by the way!)

ThisMustBeMyDream · 07/12/2023 14:33

Yes, for me it does. I wasn't eating through hunger. I was eating for the joy of it!
This has curbed that massively. I can now enjoy food without excess. It's amazing!
Sorry I haven't updated. It had gone quiet and I wondered if there was anyone left on sax!
I haven't been able to get it from Boots for the last 2 weeks and as I was down to my last pen and had already dropped my dose down... I looked elsewhere. Happily I got 5 pens from Manual which is amazing because that will see me through Christmas without having to faff about driving hours, wasting time having prescriptions sent to stores supposedly with stock to find out they never had it anyway yada yada. There was a discount so I got it for the same price as Boots. Will need to cancel it after this month though as its a subscription at £375 which bugger to that!
My current weight is 13st 2.5. Total loss of 3st 10.5 in 7 months (I think its week 29 or 30. Lost count). I'm still losing at 1-2lb a week and happily fitting in to some new clothes finally!
It's works Christmas do tonight. I have myself a full on long sequin clingy number. No WAY would I have worn this in the last 6 years of being fat! I'm chuffed! I'll put a picture on later. Might be a good comparison to before. Although I'm still not at the after stage yet! 2 stone to go!

Oh do it!!! Would love to see a photo of the dress. Hope that you are having a fab time.

My first 24 hours in wegovy have been very uneventful and not a single snack has passed my lips, which I am feeling rather thrilled about.

I hope it continues like this!

FiveShelties · 08/12/2023 04:13

@ThisMustBeMyDream thank you for your post. That is really interesting. I eat when I am sad, happy, hungry or not hungry! I don't think my 'enough' switch works. I see it is difficult to get hold of, will you be able to switch to another type? Sorry don't mean to integrate you, it is fantastic to read something about losing weight which is not just - eat less, move more.

You look amazing and I hope you had a fabulous evening.🎄

NorseKiwi · 08/12/2023 07:45

I am finding with Saxenda that my not so hungry and my hungry time jumps around from day to day. This morning I couldn't eat much, then this evening I am ravenous. I'll go up to 3mg for the first time this evening. I am hoping it all settles down soon.

To be honest@FiveShelties I wouldn't start Saxenda now with the shortage. If anyone wants to know which pharmacy I found in Auckland that had loads of Saxenda let me know. I am now stocked up til end Jan (by accident) as original pharmacist was rationing and so I had to get another 5 pens on another prescription, which I managed to find in full elsewhere.

I agree @ThisMustBeMyDream you look blinking amazing, its very encouraging, I too have 5 stone to loose, if I could loose 3 in 6 months I would be delighted. I bet you got so many compliments this evening?

Scottishlanza · 08/12/2023 07:52

@ThisMustBeMyDream , how did you get a discount with Manual, was it a code. I’ve had no saxenda for over a month now. I’ve lost one more pound in that time but I’m finding it increasingly difficult to stick to the plan so I’d like to restart saxenda if I can get some.

NorseKiwi · 08/12/2023 08:39

I think 1lbs in a month going it alone is pretty good going @Scottishlanza - well done for still loosing, even maintaining would be amazing IMHO

Scottishlanza · 08/12/2023 23:13

@NorseKiwi thank you. Saxenda really helped me to control my appetite and in that time my tastes have changed. Things I previously loved like white chocolate taste too sweet now and I only eat small quantities of 85% dark chocolate. I am broadly sticking to what I was eating when on the saxenda so that’s why I’m still losing albeit slowly but that ‘I’m hungry’ voice is getting louder and there are times I’m giving in to it. I’m still technically in the obese bmi so I’d like to lose at least another stone but trying to get hold of any saxenda is impossible as my existing provider has none and other providers aren’t taking on new customers

justsaxy · 14/12/2023 18:10

So... these injections are clearly like buses...

After three months of nothing but disappointment, I finally got my hands on Wegovy (at my own cost) 8 days ago, today a pharmacy called me to let me know that they had 5 pens of Saxander for me (which my insurance has covered). So obviously, I went to collect them.

So now I have just had my second Wegovy injection at 0.25, with enough in the pen for two more, and then I have the 5 saxander pens.

Any idea what dose I should use when I start on the Saxander?

NorseKiwi · 18/12/2023 11:02

Hi @justsaxy my uneducated guess would be 1.8 for 5 days then ramp up to 2.4 for a further 5 days…then 3 for the remaining 2 weeks, its hard to say really isn’t it?

I travelled with my 6 Saxenda pens in a cool bag in my luggage in the hold for 30hrs. When I took it out it wasn’t hot or cold… so probably didn’t keep below 8 degrees the whole time. Now when I am using it the effects aren't as great. I do loose my appetite at 4pm onwards thou.

I am thinking about coming off Saxenda as I can feel my gallbladder is prickling and it’s moved towards my back this morning. I last had a gallstone attack over 3yrs ago as I take herbal remedies to keep it at bay - but I can feel its ramping up. I haven’t lost weight in 7 weeks either…..:

Scottishlanza · 21/12/2023 00:15

OMG I’ve got some saxenda, it was delivered today. Back on it tomorrow morning after a two month gap due to supply issues.Lost a pound in that time so didn’t put on which is good.
I got it from Manual

NorseKiwi · 21/12/2023 22:55

thats great news, are you going to start from 0.6 again?

I have to say finally on week 7 of Saxenda I have stopped having side effects and its actually working as an appetite suppressant - hurray!

Scottishlanza · 21/12/2023 23:08

@NorseKiwi yep, I have to start back at the beginning at 0.6, to be fair I’ve never taken more than 1.2 as I get the appetite suppression on the lowest dose. Keeps the cost down thankfully
