Hi all,

As the last thread is filling up I thought I'd start a new one so we don't get lost.

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight_loss_chat/4788207-im-starting-saxenda-this-week

This is the follow up from "I'm starting Saxenda this week" I'm personally journaling my way to a hopefully healthier and happier life. I'm journaling what I'm eating, the weight I'm losing (and gaining) and trying to see the positives outweigh the negatives on a daily basis. I'm joined on this thread and journey by many amazing women who are all very supportive and who are also sharing as much or as little as they like.

I'm finding I'm opening this thread instead of opening the cupboards, the fridge and the food delivery app on my phone and feeling less in my struggles and frustration and writing about my days makes me realize my life isn't all bad.

I'm thankful for all the voices in this thread and feel supported by the sisterhood of women from all over facing the same body struggles as I am.

I post some pictures and photos and I really like it when others do too.

If you're new please join us if you want to and let us know how you're getting on with your Saxenda journey. Come here for compliments when you deserve them and commiseration when you need some. You're welcome whatever your age, wherever you are and if you have 1kg or 10 stone to loose.

I've been on Saxenda for 10 weeks and lost 9.2kg (1st 6.2lbs) so far. I started at over 96kg and am now 87 and a bit. I have at least another 20kg to go to be happy with how I look - but knowing that the Saxenda sisterhood is here makes the journey seem less intimidating.

@Scottishlanza that's where I got my current supply from! In fact someone on fb saxenda UK page posted a code for Manual with 50% off today and it worked! £187 for 5 pens! Should arrive just after Christmas 😊.
This evening has seen me in tears. I am SO proud of me this year. I have never felt this way about myself before. I've been reflecting on 2023 and what a low it started on for me... and what a high it is finishing on.
In January we were all set to move house. Started packing last Xmas with an exchange for mid Jan, and completion beginning of Feb. Then as exchange loomed... it all fell apart. By that point 70% of the house was packed up. I can't tell you how soul destroying it was having to unpack every bloody thing and put the house back together. Feb and March were spent regrouping. Doing odd jobs, and getting the house ready for a spring Market. In April I had finally seen a dermatologist after a 2 year wait and was prescribed Isotretinoin for my acne. I was also under the specialist weight management service at this point. Late April the dietician piqued my interest when she mentioned about weight loss medication but that currently they weren't available on the NHS. So off I went, reading and thinking. The rest was history. Early May I made that first order for Saxenda. At this stage my house sold again finally.
June saw my confidence soar with the weight loss rapid, and feeling in charge of my eating. This helped me have the confidence to go on my first solo holiday with my children. I also found the house I wanted to move to and had my low ball offer accepted!
July and August were busy with house move plans. By September we were once again packed up and filled with trepidation about if the move would come off. Yep, it did!
October was the start of renovations in the new house. Plastering, decorating, new bathroom, flooring, woodwork... so much to do! 2 full months of 24/7 work in the house to have it sorted.
And now we are here. The end of another year. I no longer have acne. I also no longer have greasy hair much to my astonishment (acne med side effect!).My children no longer share a bedroom. Proud owner of 2 TV's 🤣 as we have a family room AND a lounge now! No more TV arguments (I don't allow bedroom TV's!) And most amazingly (to me) I'm almost 4 stone lighter. My BMI has dropped from 43 to 33. And it has been so effortless. I almost feel like I don't deserve it.
I tried on my packed away clothing this evening and completely surprised myself at the items I now fit in to (and those that are close to being fit in!). 12's and 14's. Me... in a 12! In clothes that I wore when I met my partner 6 years ago and was the slimmest I've been in my adult life! I can't tell you how thrilling it felt. I've put my favourite size 12 dress out to wear tomorrow and I'm so excited! I know my other half loved that dress on me. I can't wait for him to see!
So, thank you 2023. And thank you to miracle medicine. I've had some right doozies of a year in the past. So this one will forever stay in the memory bank for all the right reasons. Not sure how the hell 2024 plans to top it... but I'd like to see it try! Maybe my partner may finally ask me to marry him. It will also be my 40th year on earth. My plan is to aim for thin at forty!
Merry Christmas Saxenda Sisters. And here's to a healthy and fabulous new year.

Scottishlanza · 23/12/2023 01:44

@ThisMustBeMyDream well done on your incredible year. Wish I’d seen the 50% money off code 🤦‍♀️but I did get 35% off so not too bad.
I also got into an outfit I haven’t had on for years, pity it was to attend a funeral tho

justsaxy · 25/12/2023 18:36

@ThisMustBeMyDream that is amazing!!! I love reading inspirational stories like that.

I hope that you have all had a wonderful Christmas Day. 😊

NorseKiwi · 27/12/2023 00:46

I honestly love your updates @ThisMustBeMyDream - I am so pleased for you, keep the updates coming.

I am in the Uk at the moment, until Saturday. I went on Superdrug Doctor online and they have stock in some of their pharmacies, is it true? Do they say they have stock, take your money and then say "oh no we are suddenly out of stock?

Just trying to figure out whether its worth me ordering a months supply with them....and trying to collect in person tomorrow. My friend went to go and collect my last pen on a script in NZ and the pharmacy said they are out of stock for weeks now.

Footgoose · 27/12/2023 07:43

@ThisMustBeMyDream . Love your update. I’m so pleased for you . You deserve it all.

also please to to @Scottishlanza and @NorseKiwi are going strong and continuing with the saxander when it’s available . Progress is sounding good ( sorry to hear about a funeral at this time of year tho’ my condolences.

Hello to @justsaxy . I hope you are doing well .

Wishing you all and great 2024 ! Xxx

NorseKiwi · 31/12/2023 01:55

Well I am out of the Saxenda experiment. I had dinner with a very good, old friend last night, I told her I didn't have much of an appetite, as I was on slimming medication for the last 8 weeks. She asked if I felt good on it, I replied no, she replied, why are you on it then? I havent lost any weight on it (I somehow put on 2kg on over xmas week), its not acting how its supposed to on me and I am tired of the heartburn, fatigue and burping. I also suspect that its interfering with my brain chemistry as I don't feel as happy as I did a few months ago. I am also annoyed at all the shortages etc, its not an easy drug to take or obtain. I have 4 pens in my fridge, that I hope I can give away to a friend of a friend in NZ

justsaxy · 01/01/2024 01:08

Happy new year to all of you. I am looking forward to walking alongside us saxy sisters in 2024!

Namechange602 · 02/01/2024 10:14

Happy new year!

It's so inspiring to hear of other people's successes. I started on Saxenda last spring and in total I've lost 2 stone and a few pounds (it varies a little). Since September I've been inconsistent due to Covid, post-Covid blurgh and moving house. But I've only put on a pound which is neither here nor there really so I'm pretty pleased that all the doomsayers who claim that we'll pile on the pound immediately we stop taking it are incorrect.

However, I want to shift another couple of stone and I'm back on the wagon as of yesterday. I have 5 pens from Manual but they're expensive and I'm hoping to be able to go back to Asda if they have supply when those run out. Or maybe I'll move to Wegovy?

Either way, I am pround of what I achieved last year and look forward to continuing onwards and downwards this year. Good luck everyone. x

ThisMustBeMyDream · 02/01/2024 11:42

My last 3 weigh ins have (unbelievably!) kept me maintaining through the Christmas period. I am absolutely surprised as I have eaten whatever over the last 2 weeks. I ordinarily put on around 6lb over the Christmas period so saxenda is definitely doing its work even though I'm eating much more calorie laden foods. I have found the snacking element has meant meals haven't always been as substantial which may be what has helped the maintain. It will be interesting to see over the next few weeks if I get slow losses as it catches up with me or normal losses (for me). I've got a couple more days of festivities (we are away with family until tomorrow night, then my mum visits for 2 days). Then the lovely Christmas treats and fancy meals will be vamoosed along with the Christmas tree!
Didn't quite make my wish to be in the 12's for Christmas, but I can't complain really! 13 st 2lb, total loss 3st 11 since 7th May (lost count of the weeks 🤣). Wearing size 12 and 14's as of the last 2 weeks! Woohoo!

Oh, and manual don't currently believe my bmi from my pictures. Not sure whether to be mad or flattered 🤣. Going to have to send them unflattering underwear photo to get next supply. 😬

LosingMyPumpkins · 03/01/2024 13:39

I started wegovy last week. Can I join? Not many people Î can talk to IRL, so a thread like this would be great...

curlydiamond · 03/01/2024 19:20

@ThisMustBeMyDream what an amazing story- you must be so proud of everything you've achieved!

My tale has been somewhat different - my weight hasn't budged since I moved onto Wegovy and I only managed to maintain a 4lb weightloss with saxenda so I am out of the jabs game. I still owe my credit card company for all the prescriptions so it has been a rather expensive failed experiment. Took my last jab 2 weeks ago, not buying anymore.

I'm back to the old fashioned way and hoping to find the thing that makes it stick rather than continuing to lose and regain the same stone over and over again.

I may try mounjaro when available in case terzepatide succeeds where semaglutide and lirglutide have failed - if I do you may see me back here!

Good luck to everyone, January is a great month to take stock. Be kind to yourselves, your weight does not define your worth.

LosingMyPumpkins · 05/01/2024 09:13

Has anyone else had issues with your mental health?

I am usually a very energetic, happy go lucky person.
had my second Wegovy injection on Wednesday morning. Wednesday was sort of foggy and I cried for no apparent reason in the evening. Yesterday I tried my very best (gym, upbeat, music etc) and I still felt iffy. This morning I just started crying whilst having a morning cuddle with my SO other and I couldn’t stop!!

I am aware that I may have (subconsciously) been using food to deal with some issues. But not at 8 in the morning enjoying one on one time with my SO. Mornings are usually my happy / energetic time and I love going back to bed for a sneaky 10 minute cuddling to wake my SO (when we both work from home).

anyone else? My doctor is on holiday but I am definitely planning on mentioning at our appointment next week.

I hope it’s not the medication because my appetite has decreased drastically and I have no more food noises. Even though I’m just on 0.25…

ThisMustBeMyDream · 29/01/2024 09:34

Is anyone still here?!
I'm still plodding on. Struggling to get saxenda, but have just managed to get another 5 pens from Manual. Not bloody cheap though 😔. Boots are being a nightmare. There is a store near me with it in stock (2 pens). But they won't turn on the ordering unless they can give supply to multiple people. Frustrating (for me!).
Today I hit a big target. I'm in the 12 stones! I'm half a lb off 4stone loss. Just shy of 9 months since starting.
I've been trying all my holiday clothes on this week which has really boosted me!
I did end up with a gain of 3.5lb after Christmas. I had maintained for the last 2 weeks of Dec, and 1st week Jan, but by the 8th it caught up with me! So that's back off now, along with a few more lb. I've put my little graph of happiness on here 😂. And a picture I took yesterday that pleased me no end (ignore the mess in my stepdaughters room!) Also, I have said a complete goodbye to my back tits! They are gone... vamoosh! Woohoo!

Scottishlanza · 29/01/2024 09:58

@ThisMustBeMyDream well done , I’ve also hit a milestone this morning . 2 stone off since last March. I’m only sticking to 0.6 to make it affordable and had a 2 month gap when I couldn’t get any so I’m well pleased with that

ThisMustBeMyDream · 29/01/2024 10:12

Congratulations @Scottishlanza you're doing brilliantly! It feels so great hitting those milestones!

justsaxy · 29/01/2024 19:07

@Scottishlanza and @ThisMustBeMyDream well done!!!!!

I am getting close to the 100kilos mark. Closer than I have been in 8 years. I am really motivated and focused on seeing 2 digits appear on the screen... hopefully in the next 6 weeks.

Have found 1.8 is my sweet spot.

Namechange602 · 30/01/2024 10:15

Morning all,

I'm so glad you're all still slogging on and getting such results - @ThisMustBeMyDream, you look amazing! Well done. And @Scottishlanza that's good although I'm in Scotland too and getting supply has been a nightmare - I've had to use Manual too and they are extortionate! @justsaxy 100kg is such a big milestone, fingers crossed you get there soon.

I fell off the wagon at the end of last year a bit. Even when I took it I was busy and tired and what I was eating was too heavily reliant on carbs etc. I only gained a few pounds though so that was okay.

I've got my head in the right place in the last couple of weeks though. I've had to up my dose to 2.1 now which is annoying as 1.5 to 1.8 worked well for a long while. It also helps that that's the dose at which the very thought of wine makes me queasy so that's handy!

Eating is key though for me - I've never eaten much junk food but if I'm eating less quantity-wise I need to take care with what I do have, if you see what I mean. So we've done a few Mindful Chef boxes and are eating a lot of salmon and veggies. Last night was a really lovely prawn, tomato, orzo pasta and harrissa thing from Olive magazine's website. I don't eat breakfast and lunch is usually either scrambled egg or a piece of cheese plus fruit.

But I'm down about 4 pounds in the last couple of weeks and yesterday I dipped in the 15 stone bracket. Back to 16 exactly this morning but seeing that 15 on the scales was fantastic. 15.8 will take me to 3 stone and I'd love to get there in the next few weeks.

Onwards and downwards gang! x

Scottishlanza · 30/01/2024 18:57

@Namechange602 I also got mine from Manual, managed to get a 30% off code for the initial order but the following day there was a 50%off code which I missed 😫. As I’m sticking to 0.6 I had to pause the subscription otherwise they would have billed me £375 this month. Apparently I can start it again at any point so will look for a code nearer the time. I have enough til mid May so was hoping asda online doctor or other cheaper providers might have stock by then in case I can’t get a code.

Footgoose · 03/02/2024 00:15

Hi ,@justsaxy @Scottishlanza @ThisMustBeMyDream @Namechange602 I’ve missed checking in so it was a good surprise to see so many familiar names still making great progress. @ThisMustBeMyDream your photos are fantastic , I remember your first pictures, great results.

its been nearly 6 months since I stopped saxander. I’ve continued to lose or maintain . I haven’t had issues putting the weight back on and I’m enjoying my diet more than ever , it was my birthday today . My daughter always does me a Moonpig card . I look a lot healthier on this years card than I did last year . Not just weight , but properly healthy. It was worth the effort .
wishing you all great things for 2024. Xxx

So happy to hear of your success, it's really, really motivating to read this.

Namechange602 · 07/03/2024 13:06

Hello,

This thread's gone a bit quiet but I hope we're all plugging away and seeing the pounds falling off.

I'm seemingly unable to get hold of more Saxenda and to be honest, I'm at the top dose now (had to increase more steeply during Feb) and it isn't desperately effective any more. I've lost 3 stone (exactly) in total now so I'm still pleased but it has been slower and required more active effort from me for the last few months.

Has anyone swapped from Saxenda to Wegovy or Mounjaro? And how have they found it?

Thanks x

ThisMustBeMyDream · 07/03/2024 16:57

@Namechange602
Similar story here. 4st loss, but very very slow since Christmas now. Having to make more effort and calorie count. Saxenda hard to get hold of, and I've gone down to 1.8mg a week ago to try and stretch the 3 pens I have left. Going down 2 doses hasn't made any difference so I'll probably go down again before coming off. I've got 1st 11lb to lose now and it feels more achievable than the 6st I started needing to lose!
I've attached my graph which shows all the weight loss, then a close up from the last few months.

Radish12 · 07/03/2024 18:41

That graph is amazing to look at @ThisMustBeMyDream ! Well done, you must be feeling great!

@Namechange602 I was on Saxenda for several months last year and had to discontinue around August due to supply issues, but also because the side effects were doing me in - I was exhausted constantly and my sinuses were a mess. I went onto Wegovy in December and am finding it much more manageable, it's effective but with less in the way of side effects for me. I'm losing around 2lb a week and feeling good on it.

justsaxy · 07/03/2024 19:21

I'm still here, and plugging away. It's been a bit slow, but still coming off. I was hoping for crazy losses like some of you experienced, but it hasn't happened.

However, it's still coming off. So that works.

I have stayed at 1.8 as I am worried about supply issues.

And I got a rash when I went 1.8 & 5 clicks.

Have played around with injection sites. Mostly tummy but sometimes thighs.

I am also really tired on an evening, I used to be a night owl and sit up drinking/snacking.

Now, all I want to do after 8pm is go to sleep! (But I wake up at 5:30. 😂)

Who else is still on it?
