💪 5 week Intermittent Fasting challenge 💪

waistchallenge · 25/06/2023 20:32

OK, my first attempt at a thread failed through my own fault, let's try again:

Limited duration because longer threads usually taper off. Ending the week beginning 24th of July, final weigh in/measurement Sunday the 30th (additional to the Thursday).

Weigh in or waist measurement Monday and Thursday. (I'm using waist measurement as I don't like weighing myself).

Using a recognised intermittent fasting schedule (e.g. 16/8, 5:2).

Optional exercise where possible, logged in the thread.

Starting tomorrow.

Is anyone up for slimming down in time for August?😀

I drink the aldi tea with a slice of lemon but Lipton with lemon is definitely lovely

I do a little squeeze to get the juice in and throw the slice in after
cannot survive without at least 3 cups of tea before 10am so this is a lifesaver for me!

Whydoesnothingwork · 01/07/2023 11:24

Was hungry in the night think I need to have more protein with my dinner.
Bought some new gym shorts today and a small fitted me, can't quite believe it!

Epli · 01/07/2023 14:13

What do you do on day you wake up later than usual? Is 16:8 when I eat shortly after waking up but then go without food ~4 hours before I go to be a fasting day? We had to go to A&E with my daughter in the middle of the night (all is fine) and we slept until 10.30. Normally I start eating at 11:00 but today I haven't got energy to wait the usual 4 hours to eat.

Bumblebeebum23 · 01/07/2023 18:38

Thanks for the tea tips, everyone. Cream in tea is a definite no-no from me. I can't even bring myself to try that one! But may give lemon a go. I randomly came on my period a few weeks early today, so I wonder if that is part of the reason my weight loss has been so limited this week.

Whydoesnothingwork · 01/07/2023 20:55

It was me who said about cream but only in coffee! Would be disgusting in tea!

waistchallenge · 02/07/2023 09:36

I missed your update @Epli, glad your daughter's OK. Going to A&E is so stressful.

I know I'm being stupid but I can't follow your question, especially the bit about waiting four hours to eat.
Do you normally eat starting at 11:00 ending at 19:00?

I re-read a few times and I'm still not sure what happened but it sounds like you broke your fast to eat, right? I mean in that case you can either write the day off or just re-start and try and continue with your normal schedule. There must still be a benefit from reducing the eating window. When I had toast and jam in the middle of the night I fasted for longer the next day but that was easy because my fast was starting at 22:00 so it didn't shift things tooo much. What did you do in the end?

OP posts:
Epli · 02/07/2023 12:14

I should not write after only 3 hours of sleep! 😥
What I am curious is - whenever I hear about fasting methods it is always about waking up and delaying breakfast/first meal. Would fasting work if done in opposite direction, let's say you wake up at 8:00, start eating at 8;30 but are done with eating at 16;30? Or is being in fasting state for several hours in the morning the critical part?

waistchallenge · 02/07/2023 12:27

I'm out now and can't reply in detail but my eating window is in the evening, so I don't eat in the morning or midday. But what you're describing, eating 8:30 till 16:30 is too long an eating window to really count as fasting, I think.

OP posts:
Whydoesnothingwork · 02/07/2023 12:38

But yeh u would fast from 4.30pm to 8.30am the next morning which is still a 16 hour fast so I think it would be the same.
My eating window is about 12 to 6.30

waistchallenge · 02/07/2023 13:44

Perhaps I've got it wrong then, actually 🤔. It just sounded a bit short but maybe people are doing this and it works. I don't think it would do anything for me because I've never eaten breakfast anyway, so my eating window is shorter than that naturally.

Yeah I think that's fine to do it that way, as long as you're doing the fasting hours in one block.

violetcuriosity · 03/07/2023 07:08

Weigh in this morning- I'll be lucky if I've maintained! I've managed to do my fasts over the weekend which is a huge achievement for me, usually they go out the window but I drank a lot of wine on Saturday and had a few glasses yesterday too. We shall see- good luck!

IF 16:8

Bumblebeebum23 · 03/07/2023 07:13

Hi all, weigh in 9

I'm still sticking to it and it's coming off slowly, but surely...

Original start Weight (16th June): 15st 9lbs
Thread start weight: 15st 5lbs

Current weight: 15st 2.5lbs

Loss so far: 6.5lbs

Next mini goal is to move out of the 15 bracket.

waistchallenge · 03/07/2023 07:20

Weigh-in 9

Try and include all the details like height and fasting schedule; we will be able to see whether one type of fasting schedule is getting more results. And weight is meaningless without height.

So that's height, starting weight or measurement, current weight or measurement, loss so far, fasting schedule, goals/progress report.

OP posts:
waistchallenge · 03/07/2023 07:27

I know I have lost, whether the measurement has changed or not, because my abdomen is more like a deflated balloon than before! 😩

Morning all!

Weigh in 9

Height: 5 ft 7
Starting Weight: 76.5kg // 12st
Current Weight: 75.6kg // 11st 9lb
IF schedule: aiming for 17/7, eating between 1-8pm and cutting portion size.
Size: 14
Target: 72.5kg // 11st 4lb by 30 July
Still to lose: 3.1kg in 4 weeks

100g loss since Thursday which I'll take since I didn't manage to complete a 16h fast on either Saturday or Sunday. I find it really hard when I'm up with the baby to not snack (vs Mon-Fri where I'm at my desk and not near the kitchen or feeding him every few hours). So anyway going to try and be quite strict these next few days and get some extra cardio in if I can.

Just to add to the tea discussion, I've been having mine with milk and seen losses so far, but I only have one cup a day and a tiny splash of milk (less than 10ml) so it is possible but I think depends on how much milk you're having.

Whydoesnothingwork · 03/07/2023 07:42

Weigh in 9

Height: 5 ft 1
Starting Weight 12th June 10st 10
Current Weight: 10st 7
IF schedule: aiming for 16:8 but have done 18:6
Size: 12
Target: 10st

Also have tiny splash milk in my tea in the morning. Otherwise I wouldn't stick to the plan.

violetcuriosity · 03/07/2023 07:58

Starting weight- 12st 13lbs
Current weight- 12st 12lbs

Actually gained 2lbs since last Thursday but I'm not sure a Monday morning will ever be truly representative for me personally- historically Monday weigh ins have always been good motivation because I'm always heavier after the weekend. I'm going to weigh again tomorrow after being back on my water schedule today.

Well done all, keep going!

MerryPenopause · 03/07/2023 08:10

Morning all!

Starting weight 72.9kg
last weigh in 71.5kg
todays weigh in 71.2kg / loss of 0.3kg
Total loss to date 1.7kg

goal - loss of 5kg over 5 weeks
IF schedule 18/6

Not a big loss today but am sticking well to the fasting schedule. Even had a few drinks at the weekend - during non-fasting window.

The twice weekly weigh ins are keeping me on track

waistchallenge · 03/07/2023 08:21

Wow you guys have blown me away! When I started this thread I wasn't expecting people to actually join this challenge and stick with it and all the funny criteria I set. And yet we're a week in and here we are!

OP posts:
Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius · 03/07/2023 08:23

Weigh in 9

10-6 -down 1 (first weigh in 10-7)
am 5-6 and a size 10/ 12
doing 18:6 - from about 7-1
20 min workout in morning &10k steps

managed to erase my gains from thurs over the weekend - had nights out planned; also day 1 period today which doesn’t help

waistchallenge · 03/07/2023 09:09

@Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius It's still a loss, though, and periods always seem to have an effect.

@Epli Hope you're still with us, it seems I was wrong about the fasting window so just ignore that and keep doing what you're doing!

OP posts:
Whydoesnothingwork · 03/07/2023 09:54

Well done everyone!
