5st to loose, 26 weeks, 1:1 diet

oddwellingtonboots · 13/06/2023 22:10

Hallo everyone,

Jumping on here as I have set a target to loose as much weight as possible before Christmas.

Starting stats
16st 2lbs
5ft 6
Age 39
Size 18

Due to other health issues I need a healthy BMI to qualify for a breast reduction and life insurance, both of which I'd like to have by 2024.

Target weight is 11st. Going to start on 1:1 when I'm back from working away next week so I can get my delivery, see how that goes for a couple of months.

Anyone else in a similar situation?

Xx

Hi. Just read the whole thread. Feeling inspired this week to lose weight, well done all of you!
I started on Monday 14st 7. 5ft1. 42 years old.
Today I am 14st 1. I know mostly water. But it's a start.
I am calorie counting, and doing 18:6 fast.
I have lost weight before. In 2017 I was 9st! Its just crept back on, eating my emotions! With usual life stressor.
I need something better to reward myself with, other than food!!

oddwellingtonboots · 04/08/2023 11:57

@SuffolkUnicorn hiii, can you explain these things please:
Xenical
Vlcd
Saxenda

What are they and how do they work? I've never heard of them and I'm very curious

First things first thanks for the update @oddwellingtonboots I agree with @Bumblebeebum23 that you have a really positive outlook, inspiring for sure.

@Hippywannabe well done on your loss that's great to hear.

Hello and welcome @SuffolkUnicorn great name! I know what you mean about knowing what works but still needing support. I find when my mental health is good I can lose weight but when it isn't I can't. How much of a calorie deficit do you aim for if you don't mind me asking?

howdoesatoastermaketoast · 04/08/2023 17:49

Hi @Smileymum12

"I need something better to reward myself with, other than food!!"
I know exactly what you mean! I think the notion that whether you 'deserve' the bowl of ice cream at the end of the day depends more on how stressful / hard your day has been rather than how many calories you've already consumed today is really really common.

SuffolkUnicorn · 04/08/2023 18:42

@howdoesatoastermaketoast hello Thankyou I’m aiming for less than 1000 a day I’ve found that amount is the only way I seem to lose weight let’s say for arguments sake 1000 a day but could increase to 1200 like the week of my period

Vlcd is a very low calorie diet like meal replacements

xenical I buy privately you can get it from the GP but they give out orlistat which is a weaker version. You have to stick to a low fat diet otherwise you have side effects ge ya like diarrhoea and oily leakage.

saxenda you can’t get anymore due to shortage it suppresses the appetite I used to pay £55.00 per injection pen

I’ve been on a diet since I was three due to my mother have a constant obsession with weight so I’ve been on most diets. I’m using these meal replacements to kickstart myself and will continue healthy eating after I’ve finished these shakes

oddwellingtonboots · 05/08/2023 09:57

@SuffolkUnicorn this is good info thank you - ok so Cambridge/1:1 and newyou would be classed as VCLD - that's good to know.

For the orlistat do you have to be a certain BMI to get it from the GP? Is xenical available to buy online? How much fat a day are you limited to on these?

Sad to hear about your mum - sadly mine is similar (not as extreme but she's more interested about me being thin than about anything else) - sympathies on that it's not easy.

I tried my first newyou shake this morning and I'm not that impressed - the Cambridge shakes (which are double the price) are much much nicer, but then again it's good not having to deal with the consultant (for me, it might work for others).

I think I'm gonna try myprotein for shakes after the newyou stuff has gone.

@howdoesatoastermaketoast awww thanks, hopefully not too fucking irritating lol. I'm still a food crazy binge eater at heart, just trying to drag myself away from that mindset as much as possible to be less mentally reliant on putting things in my mouth. It's all addiction in some form, and it's more a mental game than anything else I think. Desperately trying to get myself into healthy person style relationship with food.

Ive realised when I'm stressed, sad/pmsy, anxious, the first thing I do is eat. I need that not to be the case.

I've also realised I find eating slowly really uncomfortable, especially around people. I don't like food going cold and don't like people watching me eat.

These things combined with always needing to 'finish' whatever it is, the pizza, the biscuits etc - even if I feel uncomfortably full.

These are the root causes I think. I also gave up smoking and drinking, so this led to more food based 'treats' instead.

Can anyone relate?

My non food related treat now is tattoos. Gotta loose a stone before each one until goal weight...

howdoesatoastermaketoast · 05/08/2023 12:16

@oddwellingtonboots totally relatable stuff tbh

I feel like I'm in a comparatively good place right now, mindset wise. I've probably lost a stone or so over the last year before I started the diet & calorie counting just given how big I am that's a bit too slow if you know what I mean.

I know it's childish but I kind of sometimes feel like I want a pat on the head for how far I've come in terms of changing my relationship with food. We have a house full of teenagers so my house is constantly full of calorie dense tasty snacks, biscuits, crisps, chocolate spread, ice-cream. bagels, (as well as some healthier ones like yogurt, fruit, flapjacks etc.) and I don't eat them...Yay go me!

For me it's definitely more of a marathon than a sprint. I'm trying to create a calorie deficit of around 800 kcal a day on average over the next year and then reduce the calorie deficit to 600 per day for the year after that.

I'll share this because I find it super useful to have a personalised estimate of my maintenance calories I use this site and then you can work out how much of a deficit you want to aim for broadly speaking 1000kcal deficit a day should give 1kg fat burn a week but is only (as I understand it) recommended if you have a lot of fat to lose

Warm wishes to everyone.

I love the idea of tattoos but for me it's travel, if I lose enough I want to travel to exciting exotic hot places.

oddwellingtonboots · 05/08/2023 17:48

@howdoesatoastermaketoast - god yes! Travel! I'm dreaming of climbing mountains in Nepal. Maybe that's the goal - need to put my tattoo fund into that instead.

I'm gonna give you a massive pat on the head - it's so damn hard and you're doing amazing with all that stuff around. Well done you. It's a nightmare because you simply can't go cold turkey on food (but you can with all other addictions).

I hit the 4 stone weight loss today 😁 I am just in the 10 stone [ 10 stone 13lb ], but still in the 10's 😂I can't remember the last time I was this weight.
I am also in the high 20's for BMI. When I started my BMI was over 40, so that feels great!
Very happy gal this morning.

Well done to everyone on this thread, all inspirational. It's good to have people who can relate to having to lose large amounts who understand how hard it can be.

howdoesatoastermaketoast · 06/08/2023 13:14

@oddwellingtonboots Thanks 😊

@Londonnight 4 stone is awesome - that's fabulous

howdoesatoastermaketoast · 06/08/2023 13:53

Ok end of week results for me

hth 1.7kg loss / ltl 2.0kg loss
average calorie target 1450 (1000 kcal deficit) -
Actual average calories 1550 (maybe 900 per day)

5kg over the last 5 weeks, total loss since diet began 10.1kg

Bumblebeebum23 · 06/08/2023 15:06

Wow @Londonnight 4 stone is an amazing achievement and very inspirational as I still have over 4st to lose.

I have just had 3 days of eating out/cooking for extended family visits and although I didn't go wildly off plan, I definitely wasn't as mindful of exactly what/how much I was eating. I weigh in tomorrow, so I will face the music then.

However, for now, time to refocus with both diet and exercise. Holiday in just over a week.

Well done to everyone is continuing to be so dedicated 👏

ZombiePara · 06/08/2023 16:49

Hello!
Hope it's okay to hop in and join! Unlikely to be a super regular poster, but hopefully it'll incentivise me to have a regular weigh in and have some accountability!

I'm trying to do the 1:1, although I'm not super strict with it... which is half the problem I think!

I weighed today, so even though it's a loss since March, I'm going to take today as my start point ☺️

Start weight: 109.5kg
Current weight: 109.5kg
Age/height: 30/5'8"
Aim weight: 70kg

SuffolkUnicorn · 06/08/2023 17:04

Hello

yes you do have to be a certain BMI but they only seem to give the weaker strength of orlistat these days whereas years ago I got the full strength xenical so now I buy it privately online I think it’s about £45.00

I’ll never not be on a diet why are some mothers like this I have such a distorted view of eating.

I tried a new flavour exante shake let’s just say I could only drink half it was the chocolate and peanut butter one luckily I’ve got their cinnamon swirl one which is actually really nice and I usually hate cinnamon.

they have had no bars in for weeks so I’m going to just buy the supermarket alternative which actually works out a lot cheaper.

so far today I’ve had a few coffees half a shake and a few forkfuls of sauerkraut I could live off that stuff I’m due my period tomorrow and feel like eating an entire aisle of chocolate 😂

sorry for waffling I hope everyone is doing ok

also after years of being a slave to the scales I don’t weigh anymore I go by my clothes my clothes are generally looser within a couple of weeks doing vlcd sand I don’t like being fixated on the scales number personally I probably won’t weigh for about 2months

SuffolkUnicorn · 06/08/2023 17:06

Just a tip I’ve eaten fruit and veg on some days when I’ve done vlcd and never affected weight loss at all so if you really are hungry have some veg sticks with a fat free dip or salsa

howdoesatoastermaketoast · 07/08/2023 00:09

Totally agree @SuffolkUnicorn have some foods you're allowed to have as much of as you want to

100g of celery is 8 kcal
100g of carrot is 42 kcal
100g of lettuce is 15 kcal
100g of cucumber is 15 kcal
100g of tomato is 20 kcal

So you can eat half a kilo of salad in a day for 100 kcal (if you even could eat half a kilo of salad)

50g of humus (83 kcal) and all the carrot cucumber and celery batons you can eat is a pretty great snack.

howdoesatoastermaketoast · 07/08/2023 00:10

hi @ZombiePara welcome

Bumblebeebum23 · 07/08/2023 08:40

Monday weigh-in: 14st 8 3/4lbs, so only 1/4 of a lb off which is not unexpected as this week has involved lots of meals out/hosting family.

However, what it does show me is that by being mindful of choices (but still allowing myself to enjoy food) I can maintain my weight. Rather than going off the rails and then giving up, I have had a few lovely pub meals and then refocused.

1 week until I go on holiday so I am going to try really hard this week.

HippyChickMama · 07/08/2023 12:48

I joined this thread at the beginning but fell off the wagon pretty much straight away Blush I'm back on it now, have joined weight watchers and started today. I didn't have any breakfast this morning, mainly because I overslept and didn't have time before work, have just had lunch of salad with chicken tikka breast slices and a tablespoon of reduced calorie mayo. Dinner will be goats cheese and caramelised onion spaghetti (ww recipe). I'm limiting myself to one small glass of Diet Pepsi a day and will drink water the rest of the time except for a cup of tea with two light digestives in the evening (counting the points for this). I'm trying to concentrate on the nutritional value of food as well as the calories and increase my intake of seeds, grains and superfoods, I'm quite excited about it and will definitely try to update on here. Well done to all of you that are sticking with it

howdoesatoastermaketoast · 07/08/2023 21:23

@Bumblebeebum23 being able to maintain your weight even whilst eating out and hosting family is a real victory in its own right. Its funny how different losing 1/4lb can real compared to gaining 1/4lb.

Hey welcome back @HippyChickMama meal planning is a good idea I think.

Bumblebeebum23 · 07/08/2023 21:28

Thank you @howdoesatoastermaketoast 😊

SuffolkUnicorn · 08/08/2023 12:11

Hope everyone’s doing well day 3 for me

Hey welcome back @HippyChickMama meal planning is a good idea I think.

Thank you, will definitely be meal planning. Today has been/will be banana porridge with cinnamon and nutmeg, salad with 50g goats cheese and a tablespoon of onion chutney and baked peppers stuffed with quinoa, kidney beans and feta with a tomato sauce. Two light digestives (which taste like sawdust btw, will be sticking to Rich Tea in future) and a cup of tea this evening. On ww you get weekly points that you can use to top up your daily allowance or use for a treat, it's ds's 16th on Saturday so I'll be using them then to partake in the breakfast out and homemade curry for dinner that he's requested but will need to have small portions
