2.5lb a week (on average)

HawdMeBack · 29/05/2023 07:33

I weighted myself this morning and I'm 14st 5lbs. That's a gain of 12lbs in the past 10 weeks - I'm disgusted with myself!!

I've been struggling to lose weight since DC2 was born 14 months ago. Nowhere near enough sleep, too exhausted to exercise and bingeing on crap at night when the kids are in bed.

We're going on our first family holiday abroad at the end of September and I want to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight (11st) for then.

I have 18 weeks to lose 47lbs, that's 2.5lbs a week. I've fired up my fitbit and intend on doing the following:

10,000 steps a day
1200 calories a day
Log everything in MyFitnessPal
Drink 2 litres of water a day

I've lost around a stone twice already this year doing faddy diets but they aren't sustainable long term and I've put the weight back on (plus some) when I've stopped, so I want to do more of a lifestyle change than a crash diet this time.

Anyone want to join me for accountability? I plan on weighing myself every Monday morning and will share my results here (even if no-one else joins, it'll hopefully keep me on track).

@Todaypicard you're meals always sound so delicious and so healthy! One day I will try making some!

Todaypicard · 16/06/2023 13:22

Thanks everyone very kind! I do love to cook and eat a wide variety of food!

HawdMeBack · 16/06/2023 15:30

@blueby7 That's great that you went out to eat, had a good time and didn't overindulge 👌

I've definitely been focusing more on weigh loss and eating less rather than better, although I am eating less junk. I think once I've lost my first 1.5st (which is half of my overall goal) then I'll start looking at what I'm eating as well as how much. I do need to up my game with water intake though, especially in this heat!

Everyone's menu for today sounds good! I ended up having fruit and fibre instead of weetabix for breakfast, that counts as fruit right? 🫣🤣

DH is away for work all of next week which will help with any temptation. He has a very sweet tooth and I've been sitting at night with my tiny bag of snack-a-jacks or a babybel whilst he's tucking into popcorn, chocolate brownies and ice creams!!

Workout.
Breakfast was homemade overnight oats; protein powder, oats, coconut milk, teaspoon peanut butter and crushed pecans. Americano with skim milk.
Preworkout snack: protein shake.
Workout.
Lunch: small portion leftover red pesto pasta and a gu cheesecake pot.
Dinner: creamy chicken tagliatelle.
In a calorie deficit.

Todaypicard · 16/06/2023 18:46

Not a great day for me!

breakfast I just had to have as I was hungry - kefir yoghurt and a pear.

lunch was a cheese and beetroot sandwich, celery and carrot sticks, an apple, and a piece of homemade granola bar thing.

dinner … I stopped at a family members on the way home (wee had the day out), and she made shepherds pie! I had far too much. Then I had a slice of home made banana cake and ice cream…. Argh! Annoyed with myself and I’m still hungry!!

HawdMeBack · 16/06/2023 21:50

@Todaypicard there must be something in the air as the wheels came off a bit for me too (far more than you)!

Despite planning my meals for today, I didn't have any of it.

Breakfast - Fruit and fibre

Lunch - half a cheese and onion sandwich and a bag of skips

Tea - chicken Kiev and oven chips

Snacks - snack-a-jacks and a crunchie ice cream lolly 🫣

I've done 8,624 steps and consumed 1884 calories. I'm still hungry too 😫 the more I eat, the hungrier I get!

Don't beat yourself up about a bit of cake and ice cream, you've got to live. You eat extremely healthily the vast majority of the time, you're allow a treat now and again. Enjoy it!

It must be in the water because I've just had dominoes as my husband ordered 😭😭😭
After being so good all day! And half a bottle of red!

We've got to keep it in perspective! I wouldn't have thought twice about this kind of stuff before but now I am aware.

I didn't eat a HUGE amount and that took a lot of restraint!

Todaypicard · 17/06/2023 07:54

I suppose it’s about sustainability isn’t it? Overall calorie deficit, and changes for life. Are we really saying we will never have ice cream/domino’s etc again? No! Once a month? Twice a month? Yes!

Todaypicard · 17/06/2023 19:12

Meals today…. Slightly more falling of wagon!

breakfast - kefir yoghurt, strawberries, one slice of rye toast with cashew butter.

lunch - cheese and beetroot sandwich, celery sticks, satsuma.

snack - apple

dinner - parsnip/leek/white bean savoury crumble with spring greens and broccoli

post dinner… made a cheesecake for tomorrow (going out with family for Father’s Day) and ate the last 4 spoons of extra mixture on 2 digestive biscuits (the base was made of the biscuits and I bought too many!!)

the problem is buying the stuff!! If I didn’t have it I wouldn’t have eaten it. Like last night, I was hungry after dinner but didn’t have any junk in (I usually don’t) so had an apple and a cup of tea and was totally fine.

now I’ve eaten the sugar my body wants more. But I won’t allow it! Tea and tv upstairs - kitchen is closed 🤣.

how are you all doing? Anyone going out for Father’s Day? We are meeting family for a picnic that they are bringing so not sure what it will be. I won’t have breakfast as I’m sure it will be quite calorific

Todaypicard · 17/06/2023 19:14

Also, for those calorie counting, especially those of you with little time, how do you do it fast and easy? I’m wondering if I should make some attempt to work out calories so I know a rough ball park figure. Do you measure milk in tea?! Grams of peanut butter/butter for toast?!

blueby7 · 17/06/2023 22:52

Hi!
Somehow I was actually down today on my weigh in! (I weigh every day and it fluctuates so I am fully prepared to be up tomorrow as maybe it hasn't hit yet!). Starting 80.2, today 75.6. Soooooo slow going it's almost disheartening but have to accept it's healthier weight loss/life style change.

Meals today
No breakfast as had dominoes last night

Lunch - two rye/ryvitta type crackers with cottage cheese (this is my usual with either cucumber or cherry tomatoes or ham on top) salt/pepper. One slice of left over pepperoni pizza

Dinner - small portion of spaghetti bolognaise, two slices of garlic bread
Half a bottle of red.

Tomorrow is going to be so hard as going out for Father's Day meal. Will probably do the same as you @Todaypicard

blueby7 · 17/06/2023 22:55

Oops posted too soon!

Will probably do the same as you and try not to eat before, or if I do then very low calorie.

Re calories counting, I find it's the only thing that holds me responsible.
I use an app (lose it) where I just put my meals in. It's annoying but once you've entered a few meals it gets easier as you have them on there to add as one click.

I don't count my milk in tea at present but have stopped having full fat milk because of the huge amount do empty calories I was having from it. Also very rarely eat cheese or peanut butter (two of my favourite things) anymore as they are so calorific for just small portions .

Calorie counting and weighing myself most days have helped me be more aware of what I'm consuming

Todaypicard · 18/06/2023 16:19

Thanks for the info on calorie counting.

today - could do with some guidance!

no breakfast

lunch at 12ish was a picnic with family for Father’s Day. Everyone contributed so I wasn’t sure what would arrive. I tried to eat mindfully, but definitely ate too much. I think from memory I ate the following: one sausage, one piece of spinach frittata, one egg, one mini bread roll, a handful of lettuce and rocket, a handful of celery and carrot sticks with humous, strawberries, and a slice of raspberry cheesecake!

im not actually hungry now, but wondering if I should have dinner later - omelette? Sandwich? Or make a meal so I can have leftovers for work tomorrow? But that may tempt me me to eat excessive portions? You’re all absolutely correct that once you eat a sugary thing (cheesecake - that I bloody made!!) your ability to eat sensibly goes out the window - certainly hunger is worse

Todaypicard · 18/06/2023 18:56

I’ve just had a bit of dinner! 2 egg omelette with a little cheese in, and a good half plateful of kale and broccoli! Very satisfying

Todaypicard · 19/06/2023 05:46

Weigh in morning.

last week was 76.5kg
today 75.7kg which is a loss of 0.8kg.

bit disappointed really- but haven’t been as good this week I suppose.

I’ve been reading a lot about intermittent fasting and really feel this ought to be what I’m doing.

HawdMeBack · 19/06/2023 05:50

WEIGH DAY

Good Morning!

Sorry I didn't post over the weekend, was a bit hectic. Hope you all had a lovely Father's Day.

Re calorie counting, I don't weigh or measure anything. I'm not that regimented, but I do take an educated guess at how much milk I consume over the course of the day in my coffee/how much cheese I use, etc. and log that. MyFitnessPal keeps a note of all the food you enter so it's easy to just re-add it again which is helpful.

I had a pretty poor weekend when it came to food choices. I didn't eat a lot but I didn't make the best choices and it's shown on the scales this morning 😔

SW: 14st 5lbs
CW: 13st 12lbs
GW: 11st

That's a GAIN of 0.2lbs so I've more or less stayed the same.

I weighed myself on Friday and was 13st 11.2lbs but it's gone back up over the weekend (thanks to the pizza I had last night no doubt and the water i've retained from the carbs) 😤

Nevermind, I'm still 7lbs down in 3 weeks which isn't to be sniffed at and I'm going to let this small gain spur me on rather than dishearten me! Going for 3lb off for next week (might be wishful thinking as that's a lot to shift at this stage) as I'd like to get into the single digits pounds wise 🤞

Hope all of your hardwork and determination shows on the scales for you this morning 💪

A loss is a loss @Todaypicard we'll done!! It's not easy to lose weight, especially after the initial drop in the first couple of weeks. Give IF a go, see if it works for you. My plan is to drink more water (yes, I'm STILL struggling with that 😒) and cut back on carbs again. Twice over the course of the week I've eaten DS's leftovers. He tends to only eat half a sandwich at lunchtime so I've been polishing off the rest 🫣 I've always counted the calories but they're calories I don't need and one's I wouldn't have otherwise had.

HawdMeBack · 19/06/2023 06:06

@Todaypicard I've just worked out what 0.8kg is (I work in lbs & oz). That's 1.75lbs! That's a great loss!! You definitely shouldn't be disappointed with that at all.

Thank you for your encouragement!

Cazs818 · 19/06/2023 06:47

Last week was so hectic I didn’t get in the swing of things at all

managed to hit my water target 3/7
hit my workout goal 3/7
Only hit my calories 1/7

my food choices where all wrong which was reflected in the scales & being hungry

0 gain or lose this week , now the weather is not so humid I’m hoping this week is better

Great work everyone!!
I think last week was tough for us all, and with Father's Day the weekend was far from ideal calorie wise!
This is our week!! 💪💪
We've still got time to lose more.

@Todaypicard im really interested in IF too, would love to hear how you find it if you do try.

I'm going very low carb this week, and trying very little sugar too

Todaypicard · 19/06/2023 12:58

well done everyone! keep going!

if you’re on Reddit, there’s a fantastic group for inspiration called r/fasting. I sorted the posts by “top” and “of all time” and it’s got some fantastic inspiration stories and photos. Some people are very extreme but I ignore those. Mainly thinking 16:8 as it’s very achievable for most people. I personally worry that if I don’t have breakfast I might be too sluggish in my brain for work - I have a job with a lot of responsibility (medical), and so I’m afraid to go without breakfast on a work day. But I am working hard to reduce the volume of breakfast

LazyLeopard · 19/06/2023 13:47

Can I join in? You're all doing amazingly!

I've been steadily gaining weight, all while intending to lose it. Had an impromptu afternoon of drinking on Saturday and DH took what he thought was a 'cute' photo of me asleep with the dog. It really shook me up. We go on holiday in 8 weeks. I don't want to do a ridiculous fad diet, I won't stick to it, so I'm going to do macros, and cut WAYYYYY back on the booze (this can only be good, it's been getting silly).

While I'd love to shift 2.5lbs a week, I'm going to aim for 1lb, and anything else is a bonus. I appreciate that's not the point of the thread, but you're all lovely, fun and supportive!

TODAY:

Gym
B: 0% fat greek yogurt, with fried peach and banana and drizzled with peanut butter.
L: Breaded cod, and bistro salad and peppers
D: BBQ Pork Loin, Greens, baby potatoes (but I will roast them a bit)

That will keep me in a deficit for ONE glass of wine. ONE. JUST ONE. 😫
