2.5lb a week (on average)

I weighted myself this morning and I'm 14st 5lbs. That's a gain of 12lbs in the past 10 weeks - I'm disgusted with myself!!

I've been struggling to lose weight since DC2 was born 14 months ago. Nowhere near enough sleep, too exhausted to exercise and bingeing on crap at night when the kids are in bed.

We're going on our first family holiday abroad at the end of September and I want to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight (11st) for then.

I have 18 weeks to lose 47lbs, that's 2.5lbs a week. I've fired up my fitbit and intend on doing the following:

10,000 steps a day
1200 calories a day
Log everything in MyFitnessPal
Drink 2 litres of water a day

I've lost around a stone twice already this year doing faddy diets but they aren't sustainable long term and I've put the weight back on (plus some) when I've stopped, so I want to do more of a lifestyle change than a crash diet this time.

Anyone want to join me for accountability? I plan on weighing myself every Monday morning and will share my results here (even if no-one else joins, it'll hopefully keep me on track).

I love looking at what everyone else is eating/cooking here too. So lovely and supportive.
Gym (weights)
Overnight oats (protein powder, coconut milk, oats and a sliced banana)
Americano
2 x baby bells.
Exercise class (weights)
Feta cheese and olives salad and iced coffee.
Dinner will be a pancake topped with a slice of bacon and half an avocado smushed up with chilli flakes, lemon juice, salt and pepper.

HawdMeBack · 19/06/2023 16:48

Welcome @LazyLeopard your breakfast sounds amazing 🤩 1lbs a week is very doable and also really sustainable, it's a good, realistic target! I tend to set my goals too high sometimes and then naturally feel disappointment when I don't reach them.

@Hubblebubble have you been doing weights long? I'd love to get into it. Used to do a Kettlebells class and dabbled with free weights in the past but nothing serious. I want to tone up as well as slim down but the gym isn't an option for me right now with 2 little ones.

@HawdMeBack 5 months now. I do three strength based classes with an instructor a week. And 3 mornings a week I either swim for an hour or do weight lifting in the gym. Its really fun, but I recommend starting with classes for safety

Hubblebubble · 19/06/2023 18:28

Have you thought about getting resistance bands (very cheap) and doing youtube videos at home? Similar benefits to weight lifting

Todaypicard · 19/06/2023 19:16

Hello new people! Welcome! Fried peach sounds amazing!!

meals today:
breakfast - 2 egg omelette and half an apple (other half in my fruit salad for lunch!)

lunch - cheese and tomato sandwich, celery and carrot sticks, small pot humous, fruit salad of half an apple/strawberries/kiwi.

dinner - “greens tray bake” which is broccoli, kale, butter beans roasted with a sauce pit on after of tahini, soy sauce, chilli, tiny bit of maple syrup and lemon juice. It didn’t make as much as I thought so was left a bit hungry so had some kefir yoghurt with a banana and a sprinkle of homemade nutty muesli.

HawdMeBack · 20/06/2023 05:47

Morning!

I weighed myself again this morning out of interest and was back down to 13st 11.2lbs. Just shows how much weight varies from day-to-day. Made me feel a bit more optimistic about getting to 13st 9lbs for next week though 🤞

I resisted the temptation last night. My parents came round yesterday to help in the garden so we ordered a chippy for tea. I sat with a bowl of Shredded wheat and a banana whilst my mum and dad tucked into chicken and chips. The fridge and freezer are full so I could have had a proper meal but I just didn't have the energy or inclination to make anything more substantial.

Another pre-5am start for me today 😵‍💫 I'll be dead on my feet come lunchtime 😴

Hope everyone has a good day 💪

I've bought so much 'stuff' over the years with the intention of working out at home (and never do) 🙈 I really need a structured class.

Hello everyone (hi new people and welcome 🤗 ),
@HawdMeBacktjats fantastic! From weighing myself each day (definitely doesn't suit everyone but works for me) I couldn't believe the fluctuations in weight!
I think everyone's had a good loss or maintain and as we were saying it's the mental battle that's the hardest and most important and I think we're getting there!

That's a lot of self re the chippy tea, very impressive!

I had too much over the weekend but tried to be sensible, picked a salad for dinner out (although side of chips) and no dessert.

Yesterday breakfast was a baby bell and two Brazil nuts, lunch I caved as was so hungry and fed up (have an injury that's really getting me down) so had a peanut butter and jam sandwich which was amazing. Dinner was a big plate of veg with a little bacon and chorizo, spoon of red pesto and a fried egg on top.

It was quite a heavy day so I was surprised to find I've lost some this morning!
Down to 75.1! It's motivated me to try hard today.

So far, breakfast - baby bell and two Brazil nuts. Coffee. I REALLY want to get into a healthy BMI.

LazyLeopard · 20/06/2023 10:12

Hi everyone, you're so good at being strong! @HawdMeBack @Todaypicard it's one of my favourite breakfasts, and keeps me full for AGES. I also do a version of frozen blueberries blasted in the microwave with a bit of honey, and greek yogurt. I like to pretend they're treats 😂

@blueby7 I LOVE a PB&J sandwich! Your dinner also sounds amazing. What veg do you use?

I was SOOOOO good yesterday. SO SO good. Until... DH suggested he walk to the shop for some wine as I was feeling low (I actually think cutting calories is impacting my anxiety so I need to just power through and I'll be ok). He came back with a bottle of red and a packet of Viennese whirls which we nailed :(

Scales were angry at me this morning. But I actually think it did me good. I pulled on my big girl pants, and went for a run, and smashed my 5k time, then had toast, peanut butter and a banana and DH and I have agreed to be dry for the rest of the week.

So today:

  • Breakfast - peanut butter on toast and a banana
  • Lunch - Cod and green beans.
  • I have no idea yet. I need a family fake away type thing.

Snacks will be protein mousse and some fruit.

Todaypicard · 20/06/2023 17:51

You’re all doing fab, well done!

todays meals

lunch was utter delicious! A nasi goreng with tofu and crispy onions! Trying to add an image let me know if it works?!

Dinner I’m just getting ready for will be a 2 egg omelette with peppers, sweetcorn, kale and spinach.

blueby7 · 20/06/2023 22:06

Oh @Todaypicard that lunch looks amazing! Did you make it yourself? If so do you have a recipe/no how many calories?

I had a really good day, usual breakfast
Baby's bell and two Brazil nuts
Big lunch my husband went shopping and got a fresh baguette, pastrami and peppered cheese. So had that which was about 650 calories.

Dinner was a big salad - about 250 calories so still under

Then I ruined it all by having two big bowls of cereal as it's the time of the month where I crave eating 😩 so annoyed with myself!

@LazyLeopard yours sounds great! I just used whatever veg I had in the fridge, this time it was half a courgette and a whole aubergine. I flash fried them in the same pan as the bacon and chorizo before roasting so they got a little more flavour and a little more crispy. Definitely recommend as it was also filling!

HawdMeBack · 21/06/2023 05:36

Morning all.

@blueby7 and @LazyLeopard the fact that you are actively choosing a healthy meal/exercise to compensate for any indulgence is exactly what a healthy lifestyle is about. Sounds like you are striking a great balance 👌

@Todaypicard you should write meal plans. You are the cleanest eater I have ever come across!

Yesterday was a good day for me foodwise -

Breakfast: Shredded wheat and a banana

Lunch: Protein bar

Tea: Chicken and veg rice

Snacks: 2 x babybels

I had no water whatsoever though, hydration is a big issue for me. Will fill my big bottle today and ensure that I finish it.

Thank you all for your kind words. I’ve always eaten this way since an adult, but clearly clean eating doesn’t ensure you’re thin!!

yes I made it myself, no idea how many calories! I used slightly less rice than the recipe says, and more veg. Some grated squash also and broccoli and kale as well as the cabbage suggested.

Daffyaboutdaffs · 21/06/2023 07:39

Hi I hope it’s ok to join? You all sound so supportive. I started my weight loss journey last week.
SW 12st 9.5
CW 12st 6 so a loss of 3.5 in a week but I know this is mainly water weight.
My ultimate goal is 10st 7 by end of year but intermediate goal of 11st 13 by end of July.
Intention is to walk at least 10k steps a day. 1400 calories a day so a normal deficit of about 600 calories a day based on Fitbit info.

Fuckedthen · 21/06/2023 10:15

Hey everyone, I'm still here plodding in the back ground. Trying to make better choices but a teething baby and less sleep is making it a bit more difficult.

I'm refraining from weighing every day. Temptation is there but I'm not sure it would help me.

I feel like a need more structure. I saw this and I'm going to get it printed for my bedside table! Really resonated ❤️

Welcome @Daffyaboutdaffs sounds like you've got a solid plan 👌

Good quote @Fuckedthen

Can't believe we're almost half way through week 3! For me, this is around the time thing start to get a bit harder. I always seem to faulter around 4 weeks in. This time feels different though. Everyone's doing so well and I've no doubt that we'll all get to where we want to be, especially with the support of this wee group.

Hope you all have a tasty tea planned. I'm having roast chicken, baked potato and mediterranean veg 🤤

Thanks @Todaypicard for the recipe, will definitely try!

Hi @Daffyaboutdaffs 😊

Love that quote so much @Fuckedthen I like so much about it I might also print it.

Everyone sounds like they are doing great.

I ageee @HawdMeBack I think from now on it's going to be a little harder, although saying that in some ways easier as I still feel really dedicated to this this time! And the group is helping so much!

Today;
Breakfast was a banana (had to have something more than my usual as I am on painkillers for an injury and can't take on an empty stomach. Actually liked having a little more so might have the same tomorrow

Lunch - three rye crackers with cucumber, one piece of ham and Nando's peri peri salt on top! And a baby bell.

Dinner - homemade chicken burger with franks wing sauce and honey, slice of cheese and pickles.

All in all about 1200 calories.

Have done 7222 steps so not great there.

Also started my fast at 17:15, so will be finished about 9:15 tomorrow when I'll have breakfast. I've been using a fasting app (love an app 🤣) called zero. It's free and really motivates me just by logging it.

Daffyaboutdaffs · 21/06/2023 19:54

Thanks everyone. It’s good to have the support. I’ve managed 11.5k steps today and 1200 calories.
I love the Warburton thins and have one of those for breakfast and lunch with tomato and laughing cow light cheese spread triangles. Soup as well for lunch. Dinner was Jacket potato with beans, salad and roasted veg. Very filling.

Todaypicard · 21/06/2023 20:53

Meals today

breakfast - 2 egg omelette with peppers and cheese

lunch - leftover nasi goreng with extra kale, followed by a fruit salad (strawberries, kiwi, apple)

dinner - not much in as shopping day tomorrow. Leftover brown rice, spinach, edamame beans, green beans - all mixed together with some feta and chilli.

Todaypicard · 22/06/2023 17:36

Another day done

no breakfast

lunch was a bowl of lentil and vegetable soup with homemade wholewheat bread

a sort of dinner was the last slice of the bread toasted with humous, and a bowl of fruit salad (cherries, strawberries, grapes, kiwi) with 2 spoons of kefir yoghurt.

I need to get some more veg in really… bowl of buttered greens later ??

HawdMeBack · 22/06/2023 19:02

Hi All,

Another sweaty day 🥵

I've had -

A protein bar
2 x babybels
A child size slice of lasagne
1 x shortbread biscuit (was starving whilst making the kids tea and they were winking at me when I opened the cupboard 🫣)

Not enough food, not enough nutrients, I know! But i'm hot, sweaty and tired (5am is my eldest DC's new wake-up time 😫).

Todaypicard · 22/06/2023 19:13

Oh I feel your pain. My daughter has woken between 5 and 5.3pm for at least 2 years now!

out of interest how different are you all eating now vs before this thread.

I still ate in a similar way e.g lots of fruit and veg and everything home cooked, but I’ve been eating much smaller portions, and cutting out breakfast when I can (IF style), and trying to eat less carbs. I’d eat a lot more toast and peanut butter usually! But honestly I can’t say I miss it.

I do like a home made pudding/dessert, and a slice of cake or an ice cream when I’m out walking etc. but once or twice a month is sustainable without feeling deprived right?!
