2.5lb a week (on average)

HawdMeBack · 29/05/2023 07:33

I weighted myself this morning and I'm 14st 5lbs. That's a gain of 12lbs in the past 10 weeks - I'm disgusted with myself!!

I've been struggling to lose weight since DC2 was born 14 months ago. Nowhere near enough sleep, too exhausted to exercise and bingeing on crap at night when the kids are in bed.

We're going on our first family holiday abroad at the end of September and I want to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight (11st) for then.

I have 18 weeks to lose 47lbs, that's 2.5lbs a week. I've fired up my fitbit and intend on doing the following:

10,000 steps a day
1200 calories a day
Log everything in MyFitnessPal
Drink 2 litres of water a day

I've lost around a stone twice already this year doing faddy diets but they aren't sustainable long term and I've put the weight back on (plus some) when I've stopped, so I want to do more of a lifestyle change than a crash diet this time.

Anyone want to join me for accountability? I plan on weighing myself every Monday morning and will share my results here (even if no-one else joins, it'll hopefully keep me on track).

Well I've had a spectacularly bad day foodwise 🫣

Chocolate, crisps and a donut have been consumed!! Can't (don't want to) imagine what my calorie intake has been today! If I'm honest with myself, I've not been as strict this week as I have in previous weeks so I'm fully anticipating a gain when I stand on the scales in the morning 😫 the best I can hope for is to have maintained 🤞

Ah well, onwards and upwards! I'm going to get right back on it tomorrow. 2.5 months till my holiday and I fully intend to be another stone down 👙

How's everyone else feeling about tomorrows weigh in?

dont worry you can always start fresh tomorrow. As I have learnt- one bad day doesn’t mean the end!

I’ve eaten oddly today for a variety of reasons. Nothing until 1.30pm then a coronation chickpea sandwich, half a cheese scone, a small cake at lunch,

then dahl, rice, peas for dinner followed by an apple.

not expecting to have lost. But no gain would be a win!

HawdMeBack · 17/07/2023 06:06

Thanks @Todaypicard! You're right, 1 bad day isn't the end of the world!

SW: 14st 5lbs
CW: 13st 8.2lb
GW: 11st 0lbs

I've gained 200g this week, which is negligible, so I'm taking it as maintaining. It's the best I could hope for considering.

This week's POA is to cut right back on carbs, avoid sugar, up my water intake and start doing a 10 minute kettlebell routine daily/every second day.

Todaypicard · 17/07/2023 06:20

Today I am 73.8kg - a loss of 200g, but I’m classing it as “staying the same” and am resolute in a good week this week focusing on no sugar and reasonable portions

Hubblebubble · 17/07/2023 07:29

SW: 73kg
CW: 68kg
GW:60kg

Stayed the same. Which I'm really pleased about/surprised about after 2 weeks on holiday and 2 days of jet lag related light eating/heavy sleeping

doingthehokeykokey · 17/07/2023 07:37

OP have you chucked out everything that’s not ‘real’ food? Food addiction is very real and 40+% of people suffer. Beige food is like eating cocaine in nutrition terms. Plenty of research now coming out in the area. Until you get rid of the stuff that triggers your eating, you’ll struggle. Real food is the only way to recover. It’s really hard, but possible.
Looks like you’re doing really well, but chuck out the stuff that is going to make you fail. It’s toxic and it’s designed to make you fail. Blame the food, NOT yourself.

I'm definitely addicted to food! Carbs and sugar are my downfall. I've always been an 'all or nothing' type person, can't do moderation.

I was a healthy weight when I lived alone as I just wouldn't buy the foods that I knew I'd binge on. Unfortunately I can't rid the house of all of that stuff now as I have a husband with a massive sweet tooth and 2 DC who, although eat healthily for the most part, do enjoy a 'treat'. I don't want to label food as 'good' and 'bad' for them. Would rather teach them that everything in moderation is fine. I think when you start forbidding certain things it only makes them more attractive.

I just need to find my willpower again and maintain it.

When I gave up smoking I would have asked my partner to smoke outside the house. If you were addicted to alcohol, would you have booze in the house? If you used drugs, what then. You are an addict and your family love you. Ask them to help.

No food is ‘bad’, but the odd home made cake or biscuit is very different to the edible substances (not food!) that big companies churn out. Save your kids the same journey, they have 50% the same genetics as you and have a 50/50 chance of the same outcome.

Ask your family to support you. You’re an addict and you need their support. More people die from obesity than smoking. Treat it the same way.

You are entitled to be put first. Will power doesn’t work, look at the people in the street, I bet every over weight person amongst them has tried (and failed) to lose weight. You can’t do this alone.

doingthehokeykokey · 17/07/2023 08:20

Find your anger about what’s happened to you. Please don’t blame yourself.

Fuckedthen · 17/07/2023 08:55

Mornin'!

Hope everyone had a great weekend. You're all doing well. Scales for me this morning have been kind-ish:

SW: 150lbs
CW: 145lbs
GW: 140lbs (interim)

A wee lb off. Kinda pushing out a bigger loss if I want to lose 5lbs by the end of July. I'll just need to keep plodding. Refuse to do anything extreme.

Fuckedthen · 17/07/2023 08:59

Checked my calendar, there are two weigh ins before the end of July - 24 & 31. My even smaller interim goal is to lose 2.5lbs per week. We'll see how I go with that. Fingers crossed!

Ilovedavidmitchell · 17/07/2023 09:37

I haven't weighed myself today.. I did it on Saturday even though I was on my period and the scales had gone up by 3lbs! Then yesterday my partner's dad came by and dropped off chocolate for me 😢 he had been on holiday and bought two share bars of dairy milk for me! I told my partner to get rid of them and just put them in his car or something but he didn't do it quick enough and I did eat a little bit of one of them.

Don't want to weigh myself again. I'll try and be strict with myself this week and just weigh next Monday. I don't know whether to count my 3lbs gain or whether it was just all down to period related things like water and gas

blueby7 · 17/07/2023 09:44

Morning everyone!

@HawdMeBack so sorry you are struggling.
I have had a very bad week. Sciatic pain and period coming have had me giving in to all the cravings. Also stopped calorie counting for the week.

I am back on it today. Also haven't weighed myself yet as afraid of the scales 😩.

I will soon!

Today I haven't had any breakfast and will probably go without until lunch now.

Slow and steady! We are going for a lifestyle change here and we can do it!!
Before we probably wouldn't have thought twice and chocolate and donuts so at least things are more on the radar, shows a change in mindset and weight lose really is all in the mind!

blueby7 · 17/07/2023 09:46

@Ilovedavidmitchell I would be pretty surprised if you have gained 3lbs in a week.
I would guess it is very much to do with your period and it will mostly be water weight.

If you drink loads of water over the next two days and then weight yourself I can almost guarantee that you will be down and that 3lbs will have disappeared.

I've had a 2-3lbs weight fluctuation which was bloating x

blueby7 · 17/07/2023 12:47

Ok to add weigh in

SW - 80kgs
CW - 75.4kgs
GW - 68kgs

Todays food so far
No breakfast
Lunch - cheese and salami sandwich with bacon crisps and two fruit bars
Definitely not ideal and has me on 638 calories so I'll be a very small dinner or a sandwich for dinner to stay within my deficit

Fuckedthen · 17/07/2023 14:02

Quitelikeit · 15/07/2023 10:47

Still 11st 12lbs 😩

I need to start the weight training. Must must must!!

@Quitelikeit I meant to come back to you. Do you count your steps?

I'm sure I've read somewhere that upping your steps or more vigorous housework etc is more effective in the fat loss stage. Yes, better longer term as muscle burns more calories but in general the steps and deficit should be enough...

Apologies if I've made that up 🤣

I think I should have your username. What fresh hell is weight loss and calorie counting.

I have an extra chin now and I’m getting old, I’m so fat with cellulite under my arms 😩 I mean who gets cellulite on their arms! Me apparently!

I haven’t done any weights yet or joined a gym but I need to do something soon!

today is was 11st 13lbs

Trundling on!

Hubblebubble · 18/07/2023 18:28

Breakfast: overnight oats made with protein yoghurt and coffee
Lunch: two egg omlette with cheese
Dinner: gousto tomato and chorizo tart with salad
No exercise/ rest day

HawdMeBack · 18/07/2023 19:51

Thanks @blueby7 you're right, I wouldn't have blinked at having chocolate and donuts 2 months ago but I'm much more conscious now! You're doing greatly well (period cravings are evil).

Everyone is making great strides, it's great to hear what you've all been up to, the ups and the downs. That's life!

I've come back strong since my day of debauchery.

Yesterday, I did my first kettlebell workout. It was short and sweet but got the heart pumping! Foodwise, I had:

Fruit n Fibre
2 x babybels
An apple
A pear
Half a kiwi

Today:

Fruit n Fibre
2 x babybels
An apple
Gammon and potato croquettes

Very little in the way of carbs! I weighed myself this morning and was down 2lbs from yesterday (not logging it but was the motivation I need to keep going).

Great as well* lol

OP posts:
Fuckedthen · 18/07/2023 22:52

@HawdMeBack that would be motivating for me too!

I've been really making the effort to move more these last couple of days. After the wee guy had been unwell and sleep severely disrupted, I haven't moved much. Steps, steps, steps the last two days and I'll attempt to keep that up longer term too.

I might do a wee mid week weigh in on Thurs to see if there's any movement downward.

Being active definitely helps with the mindset 👍 after my wee kettlebell workout I felt really good mentally and that helped me stay on track and make better food choices. I didn't do a workout yesterday so will again today. Been up since 4.20am with my wee boy as he's not feeling great so if he drops off again before DS2 wakes up then I'll get out into the garden 🏋‍♀️🤣

I can't resist a midweek weigh-in, just to check progress ⚖️

OP posts:
Ilovedavidmitchell · 19/07/2023 10:56

I couldn't resist checking the scales today. My 3lbs weight gain last week was just due to my period because when I checked this morning I've actually lost another 2lbs. I'm now 10st 10. Another pound and I'll be half a stone down.. can't notice a single difference yet though
