Ozempic new starters thread

Wondering if anyone would like to join me starting Ozempic. I’m doing my first injection tonight and am very nervous about reactions/side effects. I’m 5’ and 10.5 stones with very high blood pressure which medication is struggling yo bring down, high cholesterol and arthritis.

I would like to get to 9 stones realistically and ideally 8.5. I do seem to have unusual reactions to some medication so am really hoping I can take this without too many problems as I’m sure I’d be far healthier minus a couple stones.

@EddieHoweisMYmanager and if you decide to go ahead, this is what groups like this are for, to get the support and advice we're not getting from our family and friends because we've decided not to tell them.
If you're still unsure, why not just read our threads for a few weeks (or for however long) and you may get the reassurance you need or decide it's definitely not for you. We are all making hard decisions and finding out what works for us the best. Whatever you decide, good luck 💐

By most accounts, Ozempic is a game changer. It's like the Chat GPT of weight loss. The results of the studies are astounding. It's blown away even researchers in that field. Even reading this forum you can tell it's working for people. I don't think it's snake oil. It's the real deal. Whether it works for a specific person though just depends.

I'm not telling anyone IRL either but in a few years they'll all be on it too. It's like online dating. At the start no one wanted to admit they'd done it, but now it's all anyone does.

Fortheloveofus · 17/04/2023 23:17

@Cabbage4eva great analogy. I remember someone quietly telling me about online dating about 20 years ago, whispering it as if we were considering buying crack on the dark Web or getting into prostitution or something

Hi everyone! Can I play too? I am in Aus and I collect my first dose later this week. A little bit about me - About six years ago, I made the decision to change my life and lost 65+ kgs. (Very low-carb, high-protein Diet - I’m a lazy slug and live in a very hot environment. I can’t pretend I exercised. Plus, I have a condition that makes me faint like a heavily-Victorian woman in a romance novel. Very embarrassing.) I felt great, was in control and if I fell off the wagon when I went out for dinner I got straight back on. Of course menopause (Bastard!) and other issues bit me on the butt and I have put on 15kgs and it needs to go. Do you think it’s shifting? No. I am doing OMAD bloody carnivore (boring!), haven’t even had a glass of wine in three months and have lost and found the same 300g repeatedly. *WTAF??? It’s like taking sneakers off and putting them back on again!
Guess who starts Ozempic later this week? 🥳🥳🥳

Fraaahnces · 18/04/2023 03:36

Oh, forgot to say I am 153cm or about 5ft (giant) and currently 70.9 kgs which Google informs me is 11.2 stones so BMI of 29. 😱‼️😱‼️😱‼️😱‼️😱

Twilightstarbright · 18/04/2023 07:15

@Fraaahnces do you have POTS? I do and it has been a bit worse this week since starting it.

Sammysees · 17/04/2023 22:20

Mine is definitely MH related. I put on 8 stone from a trauma 5 years ago. Trouble is no one will help 🤷‍♀️

I’m so sorry, that’s really sad ❤️

EddieHoweisMYmanager · 18/04/2023 07:46

Thank you, I don’t think it’s snake oil at all, but I think it’s easy to assume it is if you’ve not done the research. It’s easy to put it in the category of atkins or cabbage soup diet or eating clean, or any other fad out there promising to get you thin quick. I think if it works for me then I’d be happy to tell people how I did it. I just don’t need that quiet judgement of ‘a fool and his money are easily parted’ when I’m trying to get to grips with it all.

OzzyTrier · 18/04/2023 08:37

I'm two doses in. Need tonlose half my bodyweight.

I also started zoe just before I started ozempic so I've been wearing a blood glucose monitor. As expected for a diabetes med, my blood glucose immediately fell and the peaks were smaller after my first injection.

Not much weightless, but I've been eating more than I perhaps need as I have been trying out different foods with the blood glucose monitor. I'm going to knuckle down now.

Good luck everyone!

newjobnewstartihope · 18/04/2023 08:39

@Sammysees that's good to know

MedievalMadness · 18/04/2023 08:53

Fraaances. Welcome. I’m the same height and 66kg 10.5 so have around 2 stones to lose. I also struggle to exercise as I have a condition that affects my joints and tendons and makes it hard to regulate body temp and BP. I think menopause made it even more difficult to shift any weight. Really hope Ozempic really helps you.

Mine’s arriving today! I plan to start today - is evening what most people are doing? So you can sleep off any side-effects? I’m so nervous about feeling sick!

Fraaahnces · 18/04/2023 12:46

@Twilightstarbright yes I do. I have Ehler’s Danlos Syndrome and it’s one of the less gruesome symptoms. Because I’m a nurse, I know to be aware of effects in blood pressure, blood sugar, etc and I imagine POTS will be an issue. I have some sugar-free electrolyte replacement drinks (taste like shit, but these ones are less gross than other ones) that are in little sachets that I take everywhere with me. I constantly add them to my water and drink them all day. (I also live in a very hot, humid climate so that doesn’t help at all. It’s supposed to be the end of Autumn and it’s still hovering around 30’C - bleh!) Highly recommend having things like that with you.

Sammysees · 18/04/2023 17:18

I went out for lunch today. First meal out since I started Ozempic. I only had a jacket potato with tuna. I think I ate too much as I ended up with really bad stomach cramps and diarrhoea - not good in the pubs toilet 🙈. I feel really nauseous as well. Feeling very sorry for myself 😢

Franklin2000 · 18/04/2023 17:27

Mine comes tomorrow, can anyone suggest when might be the best time to take it? Evening? Im happy to wait until Thursday if this gives it time to kick in before the weekend. Thanks

Cabbage4eva · 18/04/2023 17:55

Good news, I'm approved and they said to watch for an email from the shipper.

I'm curious, for those of you who have already started, are you taking anything for nausea? The nausea I had with morning sickness really affected my quality of life. If the Ozempic is like that, I won't be able to continue with it. Just wondering about others' experiences with the nausea.

PauliesWalnuts · 18/04/2023 18:30

Mine is due to arrive tonight but I’m working away at board meetings offsite until Thursday night so think I’ll plan to start after that to be on the safe side! Have bought an emergency pack of ginger nuts to nibble at if I feel queasy but I really don’t want the Ozempic squits whilst I’m presenting at a meeting with captains of industry et al.

overitalready · 18/04/2023 18:36

I took mine on a Thursday in the hope it would be at the strongest over the weekend and it worked

I also took it approx 7pm so i would
sleep thru any sickness etc

I felt ropey this afternoon but it went as quick as it arrived

Also felt hungry whilst i was cooking dinner but im very aware of not over doing the amount i eat, not just because obvs i want to loose weight but more so that i dont become poorly

In terms of nausea i have peppermint tea, ginger tea, water and actually chewing some gum helps

This is really useful, I think I’ll resist the temptation to do it straight away and wait till Thursday evening.

BellsandSmells · 18/04/2023 18:58

The nausea I had with morning sickness really affected my quality of life. If the Ozempic is like that, I won't be able to continue with it.

This is my fear too. I’m keen to hear stories of people having no nausea or only mild! If it actually makes me vomit I’ll not be able to continue. I’ve got young children and a job and just too much going on to be bedridden.

overitalready · 18/04/2023 19:02

@BellsandSmells I have not vomitted thus far but of course am only 5 days in and on the lowest dose.

It almost for me anyway comes in waves and doesnt last long

From research fatty / fried food does not go
down well in terms of feeling sick

Buscopan if available where you are is also a tip to avoid

BellsandSmells · 18/04/2023 19:20

Ok. Thanks. I’m so flipping nervous about this I can’t think straight or sit still 😂

BellsandSmells · 18/04/2023 19:20

I’m just going to go for it tonight and see what happens. I can’t wait any longer - anticipation worse than reality I hope!!

BellsandSmells · 18/04/2023 19:22

One quick Q: I’m going to use my thigh (heard it’s less likely to make you sick??) do you pinch the skin to make a bit of fat? How far in do you push the needle? Until it meets resistance?

overitalready · 18/04/2023 19:27

@BellsandSmells I injected into
my thigh. I wish i had the balls to have gone into my tummy but like you i had heard side effects were less in the thigh and so far so true

Yep i just gathered the fat and stuck it in as far as it would go - infact i ended up doing it 3 times as i couldnt feel anything. Luckily i hadnt actually clicked the pen 😳

The needle is tiny so just make sure its in, count to 6 and you are done!

Good luck
