Ozempic new starters thread

Wondering if anyone would like to join me starting Ozempic. I’m doing my first injection tonight and am very nervous about reactions/side effects. I’m 5’ and 10.5 stones with very high blood pressure which medication is struggling yo bring down, high cholesterol and arthritis.

I would like to get to 9 stones realistically and ideally 8.5. I do seem to have unusual reactions to some medication so am really hoping I can take this without too many problems as I’m sure I’d be far healthier minus a couple stones.

mephisneon I took my 1st dose of my second 0.5 pen on Wednesday and also the weight loss is now around 3/4 of a lb per week which is slow going. Im also feeling full very easily on far less food and not wanting to snack which is great . In all since I started I’ve lost 15 lbs which is more than I’ve ever lost on any weight loss regime and I only have about 6lbs to reach goal. I feel lighter when I walk around and my bras arent digging in and rubbing which is very much appreciated in this weather. I’ve gone from 10.6 to 9.5 st which at 5’ and with very high BP has to be a good thing. My BP is still way too high though. Does anyone else find they’re very thirsty and have a dry mouth since the ozempic properly kicked in.

Beautifulwedding the week 9 info on my juniper app discusses fluctuations in weight and how it’s normal to find you lose only a little or even put some on some weeks. I hope that is helping to know it seems normal. But like you I find it really disappointing the weeks I’ve put a bit on or hardly lost anything, mainly because it’s so flipping expensive. If we can afford it though, I reckon it’ll be worth it (hopefully).

Good progress @MedievalMadness
I do know the slow losses and fluctuations are normal. I just think with the expense it's hard! I'm ovulating, which I get lots of pain during and always weight gain from water retention. Even though I know this it's still hard to not lose. Also I have a uti so poss not helping with that either.

Movinghouseatlast · 16/06/2023 12:53

I've just had an email from Manual saying the price is now £250 and if I don't sign up for that and then subsequently change my mind that I will be put back on ,25 pen.

Is it just me or is this taking the absolute piss?

Like everyone I'm so annoyed as this has been lifechanging for me. I've lost a stone and a half with the same again to lose to get to a healthy BMI. I've been trying to lose this menopause weight for 6 years!

BellsandSmells · 16/06/2023 15:24

I’ve got a question. I struggled with moving up to 0.5 so went back to 0.25. Trouble is, my body isn’t responding at all now at 0.25. Could I take 0.25 a few days apart to get the 0.5 in a week? And maybe make the side-effects a bit easier?

mumwheresmyribena · 18/06/2023 10:06

@BellsandSmells People do inject twice a wek, but it's important to understand that the main benefits from Ozempic come when it builds to a steady state in your body so your pancreas has a constant supply of it. It's this that bolsters the body's ability to regulate blood sugar and regulate your appetite properly rather than just plain stunt it.

The half-life of ozempic is 7 days so if you inject more frequently then that you're not allowing your body to get into that steady-state and just relying on the more "brute strength" side effects of slowing down the food transit and appetite supression. Injecting twice a week has not been studied in the safety data either.

I feel your pain @Movinghouseatlast but we’re actually really lucky with the price - in the US it is around $1300. So a lot more.

The pens are not expensive in the context of buying good health and happiness. I think they know they could charge a lot more just based on demand.

I already drink 3-4 litres of water a day, so there's no addition thirst.

However. yes yes to the dry mouth. I use Biotène mouthwash and it really helps.

MedievalMadness · 19/06/2023 12:45

Scramblescramble. I'll try some dry mouth gel thanks

I am at the start of week 8 and have lost 9lbs altogether. I have changed my food and eat within a calorie range and i have totally given up alcohol (i really loved wine)- so was expecting more but it’s slow and steady I suppose! I dont drink enough water but i cannot force myself to drink that much.

Menora · 19/06/2023 13:34

I think I have been very lucky as I have virtually no negative side effects from ozempic moving from 0.25 to 0.5 a couple of weeks ago. I’ve lost 12lbs in 6 weeks

OzzyTrier · 19/06/2023 14:07

Where are people.getting their pens from? I haven't found any stock for a month now

Thank you. It was quite upsetting not getting it. Finally though.

Hello all! Anyone finding it's much, much harder to handle the heat on Ozempic?

I have been flattened by it. Grew up in a hot country and normally love it!

MedievalMadness · 23/06/2023 12:11

Ginflinger. I’m dreadful in the heat but I don’t think any more so than usual. I had second dose of 2nd 0.5 pen on Wednesday morning and for the first time since I’ve started ozempic I felt really queasy by late afternoon. I wasn’t expecting that at this stage .

I’m not actually losing huge amounts but I’m noticing the difference in my body. Put on a new pair of trousers this morning. When I tried them on a month ago they were on the tight side. Now they’re quite loose especially on the thighs. I also have kneecaps!🤣

MedievalMadness · 24/06/2023 11:51

Recycledblonde. Ooh kneecaps. That's very good. I've lost 7kg since I started in mid April which I'm very happy with. I'm losing about 1lb a week which I never do with normal diet/healthy eating. I think it's mainly portion size . I am eating probably half what I used to and feeling fuller longer. I used to eat okayish l, but way too much of everything and too many snacks .

OP posts:
Recycledblonde · 24/06/2023 12:17

I’m away at the moment and having to get used to not being embarrassed at leaving food. I do wish restaurants would do half portions.

MedievalMadness · 24/06/2023 18:16

Recycledblonde. Im the same when I eat out or go to friends. It's so weird to not to be plough through a full portion of anything.
