Ozempic new starters thread

Wondering if anyone would like to join me starting Ozempic. I’m doing my first injection tonight and am very nervous about reactions/side effects. I’m 5’ and 10.5 stones with very high blood pressure which medication is struggling yo bring down, high cholesterol and arthritis.

I would like to get to 9 stones realistically and ideally 8.5. I do seem to have unusual reactions to some medication so am really hoping I can take this without too many problems as I’m sure I’d be far healthier minus a couple stones.

Hi all

I'm wondering about this too. I am 9 weeks postpartum and I know that's still soon after having a baby. But I can't seem to lose a pound and it's just making me miserable.

I'm 12st7. I was 9st7 before my first child, and 11st before my second. Even if I could get to 11 again I'd feel much happier!

I've been low carbing for two weeks, this worked for me before and I was hoping it would again but I'm just stuck.

I'm worried if I start ozempic or similar I won't be able to stop without piling weight back on. That's what's holding me back. But not sure I have much choice but to give it a try.

Advice really welcomed

Sammysees · 15/04/2023 18:58

@WonderWoop I worry about that too. I think the point is to get into good habits whilst taking Ozempic so you don’t put the weight back on after.

HermioneWeasley · 15/04/2023 18:59

Hi everyone. This was me a few months ago - I started the thread “I started Ozempic last night” back in October. I’ve got in very well with it - I’ve lost nearly 2 stone with minimal side effects. My top tip is to eat little and often to help with any nausea.

good luck new starters, I hope it works for you.

Fortheloveofus · 15/04/2023 19:01

We're all pretty new starters, last week or two, so not sure if I could answer any of your questions about whether it's too soon post-partum or what would happen if you should stop. There's some very informative threads called 'I started ozempic last night', which have some really helpful people on there who've been taking it a lot longer and may have a lot more information and advice for you

HermioneWeasley · 15/04/2023 19:29

@WonderWoop i can’t be,I eve any reputable company will prescribe it so soon after birth. Your hormones haven’t settled back down yet. Your body has just done the most incredible thing, don’t worry about your weight.

the side effects can be debilitating- nausea, fatigue, headaches, diarrhoea. You don’t want to be battling those with a new born

MedievalMadness · 15/04/2023 19:41

HermioneWeasley. That's a brilliant result. So glad it's working out so well for you. I thought I'd start a new thread so those of you who are further on didn't have to repeat lots of things you've already posted about but obviously while we can support each other on here we have no experience to help others with really. I agree that I don't think anyone would happily prescribe ozempic so soon after giving birth as your hormones will be all over. Congratulations on your little one.

Thanks all. You're probably very right. I just know I'm going to get stuck at this weight and it's depressing me a bit! Will keep low carbing and see if I get anywhere before doing anything else. Thank you x

Hopingandhopping · 16/04/2023 17:20

Hey, just joining in with you all...I have just taken my first injection of ozempic, 0.25 mg. I was so nervous about doing the injection but it was fine. It does sting a bit now, I assume that's normal. No idea what to make for dinner tonight, will see how I feel.
I'm not putting my current weight but suffice to say I have a lot to lose.
Are any of you following any specific diets alongside this? I have done weight watchers from time to time with some (temporary) successes, but not sure that is the best approach to compliment using ozempic.

Sammysees · 16/04/2023 18:17

Hi @Hopingandhopping. I have found a heavy protein diet works best for me with low carbs. I also have a tremendous amount to lose. I think unless you want to be on Ozempic forever a massive change in diet is prudent. I am trying to eat more veg and snack on fruit if I do get hungry. I am only on week 3 though so we will see how long that lasts 😂

Twilightstarbright · 16/04/2023 18:29

Hi @MedievalMadness sorry it took me a few days to find the thread!

I took my first dose on Wednesday and have completely lost my appetite. I’m tracking on MFP and aiming for 1300 cal a day and keeping carbs lower.

been feeling very tired and haven’t pooed since weds but I don’t feel constipated and have been eating far less, and drinking loads of water.

forthisinamechange · 16/04/2023 18:53

Just checking in.

First 0.25mg dose today.

I'm 5'5 weight 18st 6lb so have an awful lot to lose

Private paying as despite being on nhs list for gastric surgery I don't meet requirements to receive it on nhs.

Fingers crossed.

MedievalMadness · 17/04/2023 11:19

Good morning. Glad to have more company at this very early stage. I took first dose last Fri and had very little appetite and felt fuller after far less which was just what I hoped. Yesterday evening I started feeling more hungry. This morning I have a bit of stomach ache and feel very slightly queasy but nothing bad. Also constipated.

I’m trying 6 small snacks/meals like yoghurt and fruit, very small bowl of shredded wheat and half a small banana, chicken thigh and veg etc. Also drinking far more water. I agree that a massive diet overhaul is necessary and especially important for those of us who can’t afford to stay on it long term. It’s such a shame it’s not more easily prescribed as it would save the NHS millions in the long run.

I've just had my despatch email from Juniper - annoyingly they didn't take the referral discount off and I think that offer is now over so paid full price. Thank God I've just finished paying for the car. Bit nervous about exercise - I'm normally pretty active with two 2km swim sessions per week, plus two weights sessions, and two 4mile power walks a week as well as a long fell walk on a Sunday - and I'm a bit scared of running out of steam. Might have to tweak my regime. Someone also recommended taking babybels with me, which seemed like a good idea. Despite being so active it hasn't done me a blind bit of good - I hit a promotional leisure centre membership hard since January but I've not lost a pound, and have 4 stone to lose thanks to perimenopause and pretty bad PCOS. Fingers crossed this works...

BellsandSmells · 17/04/2023 13:01

Juniper have done this to me as well. They accepted the £50 off code when I first placed my order. Now they’ve processed it it’s gone back to £195. I’ve emailed to see why…

I’m guessing it’ll arrive tomorrow. I’m nervous. I also feel slightly weird about tackling my weight with a controversial drug when if I had enough willpower I could surely just lose it the right way. I’m taking the easy way out, can’t deny that. I’m also scared of side-effects but excited to lose a few pounds 🤞🏼

Lyricallie · 17/04/2023 13:06

Hello! I ordered mine recently still waiting for it to arrive. I was on saxenda and it was working well but because I was on the highest dose it was getting too expensive so trying this one as the overall price is cheaper at the higher levels. Ordered my my juniper and so far plenty of information etc. coming through. I’m intrigued by the once a week as once a day was a pain with saxenda.

MedievalMadness · 17/04/2023 13:11

BellsandSmells. I am still a bit nervous even though I took it on Friday. Sort of waiting for side effects to kick in while I’m out. I feel a bit uneasy taking something so controversial too which is why I’ve not told anyone but I’ve tried so many diets and am just permanently ravenous . I don’t think I have a ‘full’ switch. I’ve just had a small bowl of kefir with a seed mix and a kiwi and I’m full which is amazing. PauliesWalnuts post is why I don’t think Ozempic is taking the east way out and if only we tried harder we would do better. I think it’s gradually becoming accepted that some people just struggle like hell to lose so much as a pound even when they’re trying everything possible. I have to virtually starve myself to lose half a pound which is unsustainable in the long term.

Lyricallie. Hi. It’s great you are doing so well on saxenda. I hope you do just as well on Ozempic and I’m sure it will be much easier to just have to think about taking it weekly. Hope it arrives soon. Juniper certainly don’t stint on the emails .

PauliesWalnuts · 17/04/2023 13:32

@MedievalMadness - I definitely don't think it's the easy way out either. Years ago when I was diagnosed with PCOS when I lived in London I had to see an endocrinologist and a dietitian. They put me on medication called Reductil (I had a choice between that and Orlistat and chose the former). Reductil's now off the market due to side effects, but it did work. When I had a wobble the endochrinologist said look, this is for people like you. Your metabolism is so slow it's almost going backwards - this will help you get back on track. And it did for so long, just life and covid and menopause and a change in lifestyle enabled the rubbish weight gain.

Fortheloveofus · 17/04/2023 16:40

Definitely not an easy way out so please don't feel like that. A lot of us really have tried all the 'conventional' diets and exercise regimes. It's not like we've only just decided to want to lose weight and found a spare £200 a month to pay for it. I mean I've had to sacrifice other things to afford this and ive thought long and hard about just accepting this is the way I look now i simply can't go on being so unhappy with my weight. I can only speak for myself when I say I've tried absolutely everything over last 2-3 years and I'm still the exact same weight, maybe losing and putting on the same 3lb every now and then.
I hope it's something that works for you. Good luck

Franklin2000 · 17/04/2023 18:12

Can I join please? I’ve just been approved on my juniper so I’m waiting for the dispatch email. I have about 3 stone to lose and have pcos which improves so much when I’m slimmer. I’m quite nervous and I’m not telling anyone in real life I’m using it to help me lose some weight so I’m hoping side effects will be minimal as it might get hard to hide. Not sure why I’m so bothered about people knowing but that’s just how I feel at the moment.

Cabbage4eva · 17/04/2023 18:46

I've been on the fence about taking Ozempic for a few months now but decided today to go for it. I have PCOS and am overweight but not obese. Curious if anyone has any discount codes to share. I'm thinking about Juniper or Manual or wherever they have it in stock. I haven't been to the GP in quite some time and have no recent test results. Hoping to join you all on this journey and will be grateful for the support and advice. I've never taken a weight loss drug before but this one seems worth a try.

Sammysees · 17/04/2023 18:52

I can refer you as a friend with 50% off at Manual. PM me if you are interested.

Sammysees · 17/04/2023 18:56

I am on week 3 and have been really craving chocolate. The funny thing is that I probably couldn’t eat it anyway. I am so full most of the time and I am trying to get into good habits so I don’t put weight back on when I stop. Psychological rather than hunger. Will I be able to beat it? Time will tell.

overitalready · 17/04/2023 18:58

Can i join please?

I took my first 0.25 injection last Thursday so currently today is day 4

I had terrible acid the 1st night
Slight nausea the 2nd morning
Diarrhoea morning 3
Day 4 touch wood - nothing *yet

I have felt full up since the moment i took it bar last night when i felt hunger for the 1st time

Will weigh in once a week

Got mine from My Juniper

I lost 4.5 stone then Covid happened and i have put 2.5 back on - so the aim is to get that gone again

Good luck to all!

Sammysees · 17/04/2023 19:01

The more the merrier @overitalready. Good luck!
