Ozempic new starters thread

Wondering if anyone would like to join me starting Ozempic. I’m doing my first injection tonight and am very nervous about reactions/side effects. I’m 5’ and 10.5 stones with very high blood pressure which medication is struggling yo bring down, high cholesterol and arthritis.

I would like to get to 9 stones realistically and ideally 8.5. I do seem to have unusual reactions to some medication so am really hoping I can take this without too many problems as I’m sure I’d be far healthier minus a couple stones.

I've been on the fence about taking Ozempic for a few months now but decided today to go for it. I have PCOS and am overweight but not obese. Curious if anyone has any discount codes to share. I'm thinking about Juniper or Manual or wherever they have it in stock. I haven't been to the GP in quite some time and have no recent test results. Hoping to join you all on this journey and will be grateful for the support and advice. I've never taken a weight loss drug before but this one seems worth a try.

I’m in the same position, bmi 28 when I started. glad I went for it! Lost 10lbs in my first month with no side effects except a week of constipation, though it did seem to kickstart my period a week early.

Twilightstarbright · 17/04/2023 19:33

@Franklin2000 i feel the same, but there’s a huge amount of judgement about weight so it’s easier to keep quiet.

as PP said, I’ve tried dieting, exercising and it barely works- 0.5lb a week if I do everything perfectly. With 3 stone to lose it would take forever. I see Ozempic as another tool alongside healthy food and calorie counting and exercise to help speed up weight loss.

That's great to hear! I love reading these posts. Are your clothes starting to fit differently? How does it feel?

Fortheloveofus · 17/04/2023 20:07

@Franklin2000 hi and welcome. It's kind of exciting when you first get accepted, isn't it?
If you look at this thread and the one called 'I took ozempic last night', you'll find there are a few who suffer with PCOS so hopefully you'll get a lot of support from those posters too.
And don't worry, there are a lot of us who've decided not to tell family and friends, which is why I think these threads are so important, someone to talk to who's going through the same thing. Hope you get your dispatch email soon. Maybe you'll have it by tomorrow. Good luck

@Sammysees hi, I totally get the chocolate craving. I thought I had it under control but then Easter came along...
How are you doing 3 weeks in? Have you had any weigh ins yet?
I ordered from Manual but I've not been offered a discount code to pass on to others. Did you have to ask for it? I only got my first order this week so maybe I might get one after a week or two?

Fortheloveofus · 17/04/2023 20:12

@Sameiam 10lb in a month is brilliant. Well done. It's really inspiring to hear these success stories. Thank you

When you log in to your account there should be a refer a friend tab in the top right corner.
I am being a coward and only weighing once a month. I took a start weight on 2nd April so my first weigh in is on 2nd May. I am terrified I am not going to lose anything. Menopause seems to have taken my metabolism and dropped it at the bottom of the ocean.
I am just not buying chocolate. If I have it in the house I will eat it! I’m not sure I could binge on it though - my stomach seems to be constantly full! I guess it takes a few weeks for those cravings to go away.
It is really good to see people having good weight losses. It boosts everyone else to keep going. Well done everyone.

I was given a discount code when I signed up, but it doesn't apply to weight loss products. It gives a discount off other items such as vitamins

Fortheloveofus · 17/04/2023 20:53

@Sammysees thank you, I'll go back into my account and have a look. I feel your pain regarding menopause, I'm exactly the same. I might only weigh myself once a month too.

@Kangarude was that with Manual?

Kangarude · 17/04/2023 20:59

Yes it was. It was on the screen after I paid

Honestly? Not really, but I bought them when I was this weight so wouldn’t expect much. Plus I have the apple pcos shape so it’s only my stomach/boobs that are visibly fat, and I find that takes the longest to look any different.

Goodgriefisitginfizzoclock · 17/04/2023 21:04

Just signed up with Juniper. Scared but it’s time, I am overweight but it’s starting to affect knees etc which is new to me so suddenly feel old. Menopause has not helped weight gain at all. I’m very reluctant to tell anyone either, don’t think they will approve or understand, but I’m fed up of being overweight and feeling old because I’m a frumpy mum. It’s for me not anyone else so they don’t need to know

Fortheloveofus · 17/04/2023 21:14

I can see this on my page but when you click to go into details, it just goes into a menu page. I wonder if you just give people your name so when they're ordering, they enter your name instead of a code. I'll ask them and get back to you and let you know

Ugh, yeah, the apple shape, where the waistband is tight but you've got bagginess in the bum - hate it. I would be happy just to have an hourglass even if still the same weight. Looking forward to hearing your further updates - so exciting to hear the success stories.

What happens when you stop it? If you haven’t changed your eating patterns or got health for emotional eating won’t you just put all the weight back on again?

newjobnewstartihope · 17/04/2023 21:24

Has anyone managed to get this via their gp?

Wilding and others, 2022, did a study. Most people were well on their way to putting everything back on. It’s a stay on it for life drug or making some serious lifestyle changes and sticking to them.

Mine gives a link for you to copy and give to a friend. I’m presuming if they then go on to order you get the 50%?

Fortheloveofus · 17/04/2023 21:27

@Irritateandunreasonable well, I guess that's the big question. Will we have changed our habits enough to stop? I've read a few posts where they've said it's supposed to be life but unless you're getting a prescription from you GP, I'm sure that won't be sustainable for a lot if us.

@newjobnewstartihope I think if you read the other thread 'I started ozempic last night', you will find more people who have been prescribed it by GP but I yhink majority are paying privately

Sammysees · 17/04/2023 21:29

I have a lot of weight to lose (10 stone 🙈). I am hoping that by the time I get to a target weight - probably 2 to 3 years realistically - that I will have better habits that I can keep up on my own. That’s my plan anyway. Who knows if it will work. Worth a good try though. I don’t want to waste £200 a month for nothing.

Sammysees · 17/04/2023 21:31

I think you can only get it prescribed by your GP if you have diabetes (which is what the drug is for). From June I think you can get it prescribed as Wegovy for weight loss. Only for 2 years though.

Fortheloveofus · 17/04/2023 21:32

@Sameiam i found it thanks you. It says refer 1 friend 50%, refer 2 50% off, refer 3 get yours free.

So anyone want a referral code let me know. Just for context, with Manual I ordered and was approved on bank holiday Monday. I didnt want my GP informed so i had to upload full length photo and ID. order was displayed Tuesday and I received it Wednesday.

gettingolderbutcooler · 17/04/2023 21:33

I've been on it (0.25) for 4 weeks, and it's only when I started the 4th week that I've felt the effect. Feeling full quickly, and had some terrible heartburn and nausea for a day.
Crack on though! 15-20kg to lose!
0.5mg from Wednesday.

I love this. Well done. I took my first on Wednesday and been really disappointed I wasn't one of those who felt effects immediately but I know by stories like yours that it will eventually. It has changed my mindset slightly though snd I've upped my exercising and cut chocolate out. Sitting here snacking on apple and grapes instead but might treat myself to a bedtime highlights hot chocolate drink

I got it from my GP but I'm 5 foot tall and BMI of 60. I've also got very high blood pressure, high cholesterol, hypothyroidism and suspected pre diabetic. I had 3 injections and will take the 4th on Wednesday. Before taking Ozempic I had to go to the toilet, to wee, 5 times each night. Now I only need to go once at most in the night. I was always sleepy during the day too, now I'm not. My blood sugar used to jump up as high as 15 now it stays between 5 and 7. I feel so much better, and have no side effects except a bit nauseous if I have not eaten for 4-5 hours. I'm so grateful to my GP. She says as soon as Wegovy is available she will switch me on to it.
