Anyone care to join me in trying to lose some weight.

I really need to sort myself out but I seem to have zero willpower. I would love some company.

I will weigh myself tomorrow. There will be tears.

I want to know if its possible to lose a post menopause stomach. I weigh roughly the same give or take half a stone but now developed a fat belly that starts under my boobs. The rest of me (apart from slightly bigger boobs) is the same size but I can't shift the belly!! Help!!!

UWhatNow · 25/03/2023 20:09

I’d love to but my willpower is decreasing in spades along with my oestrogen! I’ve just sat and eaten a whole Tony’s chocolate bar with a cup of coffee for no apparent reason…😭

crew2022 · 25/03/2023 20:15

I have no willpower
I can't sleep so presume this increases my weight gain.
My joints ache
I'm overweight and MH clothes don't fit . I need to join you

PatterdalePatty · 25/03/2023 20:16

I'm a size 16. I was a 12. My belly starts under my breasts now. I feel and look like raw dough. May I join you?

OrangeSofa1 · 25/03/2023 20:18

I’m in. I know I have to fill my plate with veg or salad and less rice/ potatoes. I still eat portions like I am 25.

Windblownwife · 25/03/2023 20:37

I'm a stone heavier and it's getting worse. I feel so unhappy with my body atm. I've lost my shape, my hips and belly are the worst, and it's those I've always relied upon to feel confident about! My clothes don't look nice on me anymore. I've recently started HRT and I'm sure it's make the weight gain worse

Rowgtfc72 · 25/03/2023 20:52

Lost 2 stone last year and put it all back on. Crave carbs and sugar like nobody's business. Don't have the energy to do anything about it and everything hurts.
Would like to re-lose side boobs and inner thighs.
Not on hrt but still on the minipill so weights been an issue for a while.

WinterMermaid987 · 25/03/2023 20:57

Me too it’s SO hard I’ve gain 2st over the last 2years 😞 I exercise every day and have restarted running but still 3st overweight & now “obese” - I’ve tried IF but can only keep it going for 2wks then slide back, I plan out high protein meals but lose my way after a couple of weeks Arrhh! Sleep crap, joints hurt and I’m so so stiff in the morning.

Helpmymenopausalfanny · 25/03/2023 20:58

I’d love to join you ladies. I’ve done a whole day today of no sugar and refined carbs. My problem is I get hormonal headaches most afternoons with nausea, and then I reach for biscuits and white toast loaded with butter cos that feels like the only thing I can stomach. 😭

declutteringmymind · 25/03/2023 21:04

Ok. So I'm in the throes of perimeno with no signs of it ending.

I've made a few tweaks and have lost a little weight as a side effect but my body shape has changed much more than that.

I've increased my protein and started taking multivitamins.

So I have a protein bar for breakfast and a protein drink with my normal evening meal. Where I can I shove as much protein in my meals as possible and make high protein choices where I can. I don't restrict myself otherwise.

I've literally stopped snacking and my portion sizes of meals and carbs has naturally

It might be worth trying for a few weeks and see how you go. If anything got will start you off gently towards a stricter diet plan.

There's a keto accountability thread that I'm on where there are a few of us doing high protein at differing levels.

I'm a few weeks in and I'm already feeling the benefits less bloated, flatter stomach, waist more defined. I've started some light weights as I want this protein converting now, and weight bearing exercise is important at our stage in life.

It might be worth you all getting your bloods done if you haven't to see if there's anything that can be improved to support your symptoms too.

Mumtothreeandadog · 26/03/2023 08:10

I am 51 and on HRT. Exercise most days but my stomach starts under my breasts too. Because I am classed as obese I can access Weight Watchers online for free. I have started doing WW, early days but lost nothing. I get disheartened at the lack of weight loss and start scoffing chocolate. I know that isn't the right attitude but so hard when you are seemingly doing all the right things but you are battling against mother nature too.

rockingbird · 26/03/2023 11:30

I'll join you, I'm back calorie counting and my aim is gym 3 days a week as well as extra mini workouts at home. I'm absolutely determined to shift this meno weight I've gained over the past couple of years. I've never really been big but it's crept up and up and now I'm classed as overweight!! Ffs 🤦‍♀️ I'm back using my fitness pal to track everything - need to up my steps and stop being so bloody lazy. Move more and eat less is my focus. Off out to buy some scales today so will weigh in later today and no doubt cry!

NorthernSpirit · 26/03/2023 11:39

If you make some significant lifestyle changes you can loose the weight.

I’m early 50’s. Had put on weight and had a huge roll of fat around my stomach.

6 months ago I joined Slimming World (online for 3 months). I followed the plan, stopped drinking alcohol and started going to the gym at least 4 x per week (doing spinning & weight resistance body pump classes).

In 18 weeks I lost 31 lb, the stomach has gone, I got back into my skinny size 10 jeans and I feel fantastic.

To see the difference you need to make some big changes but it can be dine.

JeanMarsh · 26/03/2023 11:50

@FlameRise I will join you in the weigh in and tears tomorrow. @NorthernSpirit thanks, this gives me hope! 31lbs in 18 weeks and back in your size 10 jeans, well done. I was slim for decades and hate being overweight.

TheLoupGarou · 26/03/2023 13:02

I will join as well - I also look and feel like raw dough atm. Am perimenopausal and on hrt - although I don't think that has made things worse it definitely hasn't improved anything either. @NorthernSpirit you have given me hope that it is at least possible to change things for the better!

Tomeeornottomee · 26/03/2023 13:37

I lost 3 stone in 2017 and have managed to stay around 10 stone since then. However. I'm now 50 and in 3 months have put on over half a stone.
I have willpower of iron during the day. Come bedtime I'm up and down to the kitchen for snacks. Last night was horrific. Leftover pasta and meatballs, 2 slices of bread and pate, 3 packets of low fat crisps, a Mars bar, a krispie cake and a low fat red velvet bar. Oh and 3 jaffa cakes. I can feel my clothes getting tighter and hate myself for falling into the same traps I did before I lost the 3 stone.

NorthernSpirit · 26/03/2023 14:26

@TheLoupGarou go for it!

I’m 51 and look & feel better now than I ever did!

You’ll need to make some big changes (for me it was eating better (I followed he slimming world plan - which is basically cut out the crap & cook from scratch), cutting out the booze & upping the gym). But it’s definitely worth it!

Good luck 🤞

NorthernSpirit · 26/03/2023 14:28

@JeanMarsh go for it! Hard work deffo pays off.

Good luck 🤞

Coppergate3 · 26/03/2023 16:15

I've no idea if I'm perimenopausal or not (I'm 50) but probably. I am definitely fat though and by fat I mean class II obese.

I lost weight a few years ago and got down into the healthy range - was wearing size 10/12 clothes, going to Pilates and swimming and...just about to ramp up the exercise when Covid hit. Swapped all of that good stuff for wine and chocolate and inactivity - now up at a new 'heaviest ever'.

I've pretty much spent my entire adult life losing or gaining weight and I'm more than a little fed up and despondent. It is affecting my whole life negatively - why do I do it to myself? Now it is harder...not least because carrying around all this weight makes it harder - my feet can't cope with the long walks I used to love...

I've got a weekend away next weekend and then some time off work so I'm hoping I can clear the decks and get on with some kind of plan then. I absolutely hate being this fat but...I've also got used to it.

bunnyhophappy · 26/03/2023 18:14

I'm bouncing ( literally) straight in to this post! I'm a big blubber who needs so lose 2 stone at a minimum ( 4 would be better) so I'm definitely politely requesting an invite to this club 😃

Notanothernewname · 26/03/2023 20:41

I need to join this club too!

I need to lose 2.5 stone and as the past couple of months have shown me I am peri. I've also lost my waist but not put any weight on.

I am usually a regular (6 days a week) gym goer but since January my motivation has gone. I find I snack so much wfh, and I drink a lot of Coke zero (I have one before 9am now when before it wasn't until 11am) and hardly any water anymore.

Up until the 3rd lockdown I had been losing weight to the point my gym instructor complimented me in class in front of everyone. But since last year I've put it all back on.

I want to start dating again but I want to be happy with myself first.

WinterMermaid987 · 26/03/2023 20:43

It’s so so frustrating I can do two weeks eating super healthy and I’m lucky if I lose 0.5lbs but this week I’ve gained 3.5lbs 😞 after a week of poor sleep due to pain& hormone issues despite exercising every day this week. Arrhh I’ll start yet again tomorrow.

JeanMarsh · 27/03/2023 10:11

10st 13lbs, 5ft 5”, bmi 25.5. Age 56. Rolls of fat on my stomach. Waist is over 40 inches!

Goal weight is 9 st. That’s 27 lbs to lose. I was under 9 st all my life (except pregnancies) till my 50th birthday. Had what I hope was my last period in January. Not on hrt.

That’s me, anyone else weighed themselves?

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 27/03/2023 10:17

YES! this is the thread for me. Surgical meno March 2021. I have been binging on sweet stuff horrifically, and barely moving. I am now a whopping 13st 11 this morning. Was 12st pre pandemic+pre meno, 11.5st after my second DC. The worst part is that none of my clothes fit - I'm down to a few new pairs of elasticated waist trousers and some stretchy tops. I'd love to be 11st again, but even 12st would get me back in my clothes, I reckon.

WinterMermaid987 · 27/03/2023 10:41

@TheTurn0fTheScrew im a similar weight and can’t believe that now 12st seems like a good goal 😥when I really need to be 10.7st!
I’ve started well today. I fasted 14.5hrs and have done 13500 steps by 10.30am by running after school drop and trail dog walk must now not blow it by eating sugar…. My goal this week is just don’t have pudding after dinner as that sets off a chain of snackage…. I’m good at cooking healthy protein high meals but ruin it completely chasing the sugar afterwards 😫I’m now eating yogurt n few berries n nuts post run so trying to get the protein up as it really does help when I do it.
