Anyone care to join me in trying to lose some weight.

I really need to sort myself out but I seem to have zero willpower. I would love some company.

I will weigh myself tomorrow. There will be tears.

I put about 7lbs back on over the summer which was a bit of a git. But am back on the diet wagon now and losing again. Plus made it back to the gym for the first time in a few months and am walking more again.
Really want to dip below 12stone by Christmas (am 12.10 currently).

Rowgtfc72 · 28/09/2023 16:40

3lb on 3lb off. And repeat. I'm stuck around 15 1. And I'm tired. So tired. If I slept I'm sure I'd find everything easier!

Justonemorecoffeeplease · 19/10/2023 09:50

Hello Everyone,

Well I'm going the wrong way. My current weight is 81 kilos and I'm 5ft 2 so I'm big and have put on in the last few weeks. Have had a lot of stuff going on over the past few years with bereavement and health issues including a broken leg. Now I've severely sprained my other ankle and am hobbling about in a boot. Really disappointed with myself as I was just getting back to exercise - walking the dog, 15-30 minute YouTube workouts and generally trying to move more. I'm a little sad as autumn is my favourite season and I'd envisaged going on some lovely walks and enjoying myself at half-term. Oh well. On the positive side I'm really trying to cook more from scratch and avoid processed foods if I can. Last week the only cake/sweets I ate were ones I made myself - I realise that cakes aren't very beneficial to weight loss though. Also, starting Zoe next month so we'll see what that brings.

Weather rather suits my mood at the mo. 😔

On the positive

Can I join you?

51 and menopausal. Had a hysterectomy 7 years ago and although I have never been skinny, weight has crept up since then. Now 88kg-ish, measure in kg because it doesn't sound so awful.

Had a bit of a wake up call as the GP has said that my cholesterol is high at 7.9, possibly because of my thyroid issues (which are medicated) but most likely a consequence of eating crap.

So ideally I'd like to lose 3 stone or 20kg, but 10kg would do as a start.

JeanMarsh · 15/03/2024 10:42

Popping back on this thread in case anyone is interested. I have made some progress this year and am down from 11st 7lbs to 9st 4lbs. Last time I was on this thread was Summer 23 and I was 11st. Waist has gone from 39 inches to 31.

What has worked: more or less given up alcohol (a couple of glasses a wine a month on special occasions rather than wine most days).

30 mins sweaty exercise 6 days a week (walking very fast or dancing to music or treadmill).

OMAD and low carb Mediterranean diet. I know this doesn’t suit everyone, just saying what suits me. I am 57 and retired.

It is strict but I feel great, I can feel my body again after 6 years of fat covering it.

upanddowns · 15/03/2024 12:28

I'm still here but failed spectacularly up to now, but I'm back on it! Bought Slimfast shakes to kickstart and lots of soup and veg and fruit. Weighed in at 12'11.6 this morning, need to lose at least a stone, preferably 2.

JeanMarsh · 15/03/2024 15:32

@upanddowns good luck, it’s taken me a lot of restarts to get this far but it’s totally worth it.

Thank you, good luck to you too, you're doing well! I'm determined now, I've some things planned and need to feel a bit happier about myself.

Just checking in after finding my post almost a year ago saying I'd like to lose half a stone and was 9st 3. Now 8st 12 so some progress in the right direction, still aiming for 8st 7. I'm 54 and 5'3, find it hard to lose weight post menopause. Bit concerned about health, last hb1ac was 41, chloresterol 5.7, blood pressure hovers around high normal. Recently started new exercise plan of 30 mins on rebounder 4 mornings a week and a half hour lunchtime walk (won't manage this on thd one day a week I go to the office). And then longer walks at weekends. Breakfast either natural low fat kefir or porridge with skimmed milk, banana and sometimes almonds/pecans. Lunch usually salad with avocado, tomato, cucumber/fennel, apple/orange, olive oil, ACV and maybe some almonds/pecans/a little soft goats cheese. Dinner something like baked salmon or bean stew with lots of veg, rarely any carbs but occasional small portion of wholewheat pasta/rice. Only meat is lean steak mince once a week in something like bolognase or chilli. Small (80ml) glass of wine once a week and a couple of squares of 85% chocolate a few times a week. Occasional piece of cake once every couple of weeks, but trying to cut this out completely!

rockingbird · 17/03/2024 09:08

I'm still here and failed miserably.. but I did have a change of HRT and I think that's been a factor 🥴 the sun has started to make an appearance so I'm hell bent on shifting some weight!!

MonkeyTennis34 · 17/03/2024 09:22

JeanMarsh that’s a brilliant loss, well done!
With OMAD, when do you eat your 1 meal and do you eat anything else at all?

I’m 54, 5’5 and weigh 10st. I’d like to lose half a stone and can usually do this but find keeping it off once I’m out of the “diet zone”.

Since the menopause, I’ve developed a very sweet tooth!

JeanMarsh · 17/03/2024 11:25

@MonkeyTennis34 thanks. I have a milky coffee in the morning and eat dinner at 6 pm. That’s it. I don’t have a sweet tooth but the first couple of weeks without wine I craved something sweet and had 2 squares of 70% dark chocolate after dinner.

Dinner is steak or piece of fish or chicken and 4 veg or big bowl of chickpeas/lentils and 2 green veg. If I am rushing I just eat a tin of sardines or scramble some eggs, microwave a pouch of chickpeas and a bag of spinach. I eat a lot of roasted cauliflower, courgettes, leeks, peppers, onions, mushrooms and every green veg. I cook with butter and olive oil. Potatoes on Sunday but otherwise I avoid carbs. My treats are mocktails and a bag of quavers but not every day. I have a heaped teaspoon of good quality peanut butter if I feel hungry, might happen once a week but generally I find OMAD easy. It just suits me.

Interesting to hear. Sounds much like the kinds of things I eat, at least the milky coffee and dinner fish/meat/pulses with veg, or roasted veg). I also have a small breakfast and salad lunch, but work full time and feel I need it. I would rather have smaller dinner than skip breakfast/lunch. I couldn't do OMAD but have lost 5 pounds so far doing this over a couple of months and really want to lose another 5 and then maintain it.

Definitely agree, keeping weight off afterwards ot the biggest challenge. I'm the same age as you. I'm trying to lose weight slowly by a realistic overall change in eating habits and exercise for the long term rather than just aiming to lose weight in the short term. We'll see how it goes!

MonkeyTennis34 · 17/03/2024 12:12

JeanMarsh
That sounds extreme but I guess your system can get used to anything over time.

For me, realistically, if I cut out most of my in between meals shit snacks it would make a big difference but I enjoy them.

If I ever slip into the Unhealthy weight range, I might think differently.

MonkeyTennis34 · 17/03/2024 12:14

Measured my waist earlier and it's 31inches which I think is ok.

Off to have a cuppa and some biscuits 😂

upanddowns · 17/03/2024 12:58

Sunday is a difficult day for me, DP loves puddings and I've no willpower 😂 Had Sunday dinner with lots of veg and meat but no potatoes 😇 and no pudding.

Z0rr0 · 17/03/2024 19:28

I was doing ok with weight loss last year. It was slower than I would have liked but I did get down to a lower weight than it has been for years. Unfortunately over summer and then Christmas I put a bunch back on. At the end of January I started the Human Being Diet and I've lost 17lbs taking me lower than I got to last year. The first two weeks are a lot (no oil, no alcohol, no sugar, no grain) but I lost 12lb. Now I'm in 'phase 3' progress is slower but I'm optimistic I can keep going and lose the stone and a half I still have to go.

FasterthanaButteredOtter · 18/03/2024 11:11

@JeanMarsh wow I'm so impressed! That's amazing. And the inspiration I need!

rockingbird · 18/03/2024 13:01

@JeanMarsh that's and amazing effort! Huge well done. I'm going back to basics and putting down everything I eat in my fitness pal. Drinking more water because I always just drink coffee and that's a terrible expensive habit I need to break. The coffee pods are costly and according to the app 80cals per serving🫣 I'm going to eat more fruit and less snacks, track how I do and pray I can shift some of this weight!!

JeanMarsh · 18/03/2024 13:11

Thanks @FasterthanaButteredOtter and @rockingbird . I spent years going up and down the same 10 lbs, I think it’s the difference between sticking to a plan (whatever suits you) 7 days a week for 3 months versus sticking to it 5 days a week, taking 2 weeks off, restarting and so on. Consistency is key.

Thats great @Z0rr0, sounds like you have found a plan that works for you.

I've used My Fitness Pal the free vegan for years but can't seem to update my progress anymore, do you have to pay for it now?

Not managed to stick to what I planned over the last two days due to DP taking me out to eat a couple of times, but did have a lot of veg and only one small Yorkshire pudding with my Sunday dinner. I did have a tuna sandwich from the shop this lunchtime and pasta tonight, back on track tomorrow though.

I meant the free version!

rockingbird · 19/03/2024 12:29

@upanddowns I'm using the free version, suggest you remove the app and download it again or do an app update.

Did well yesterday, stuck to within my calories and also had a hours walk with the new pup.. he's pretty lively so I'll be walking a lot 😆
