Anyone care to join me in trying to lose some weight.

I really need to sort myself out but I seem to have zero willpower. I would love some company.

I will weigh myself tomorrow. There will be tears.

I've been eating well, even over Easter. Exercised. Doing MFP. Have lost 4llb since first posting but I was really bloated and constipated when I began. I think the rest will take longer to get off.

FannythePinkFlamingo · 14/04/2023 07:30

Unbelievably, despite a weekend where I drunk pints of beer, ate more bread than I've eaten in 3 months, and generally been a lazy so and so, I have lost another 1lb, taking my total loss since Jan 3rd to just over 11lbs. I do wonder if sometimes adopting a zig zag approach to dieting does actually work and helps by making your body not think it's on a diet every now and again.

TheCatterall · 14/04/2023 10:36

Morning Sausages.

Like some of you the dreaded belly has appeared just under boobs and whilst I can see my toes still I’d like to see more…

I’m 48, 5’11 and 19st. Officially heaviest ever weight. I used to be a 14/16 5 years ago and I’m now a 20. :/ I’ve always been pear shaped with a slim waist so this new apple shape and bloating is really distressing me and I just don’t know what to wear anymore. Nor can I stand to see myself naked. :(

Im skint so can’t afford WW etc for accountability but will choose a diet type and crack on with better choices. I enjoy cooking I just need to plan it out better as otherwise I end up mindlessly snacking.

one thing I’d like to suggest to you all - please measure yourself if you feel you are doing the work and not losing weight. It could be muscles have toned up - they weigh more than fat.

I am measuring:
arm (at bingo wing),
bust,
belly button
waist bit where my jeans used to sit in old days..
hips
thigh

then I can see where change is happening.

My exercise for now is just walking at least 30 mins a day to get joints used to it - as otherwise some weeks I don’t leave the house more than twice and some video yoga and Pilates at home. I can’t do HIIT as it triggers shingles due to immune system issues.

anyway that’s my ramble done.

BansheeofInisherin · 14/04/2023 12:59

May I join in? Was moaning in the general forum, but this is my tribe! I am 51, 5"7 and 69 kg. Want to lose about 5 kg but most importantly keep it off, which I'd harder. And keep it off my belly.

I walk a lot- about 8 to 10 km most days- have started light weights and plan to begin swimming by next week. Diet is good but carbs need to be reduced. Sigh.

23usrnm · 16/04/2023 14:24

Welcome Banshee!
I’m about the same as you in terms of age, height and weight. But I was 3kg heavier a month ago. I want to get to 65kg. Incidentally I’ve always walked a lot (fast 30 min walk to and from work(train station) each day and an hour or so dog walk most evenings). But I’ve never lost weight by walking. I guess if I hadn’t walked I’d have been even heavier. I’m finding the weights/circuits types classes are making a huge difference very quick. Not so much weight as that is probably more due to what I am now eating, but I can literally feel new muscles in my core and arms. I feel stronger. I’m getting reacquainted with my skeletal structure which has been shrouded in layers of fat for the past -5 years. I know it sounds basic and slightly odd but I find it really motivating and surprising to literally be able to feel bone and muscle again. This is what I was like until I hit 40 as I’ve always been very sporty. I thought it was lost to me for good. I am feeling hungrier this week - prob PMT - so if anyone has tips for high protein filling snacks please shout. I’m avoiding protein powders and processed stuff as the thought gives me the ick…However I had 10g of mixed nuts earlier and it was around 100cals so I can’t rely on nuts much as I love them.

I hope everyone is having a lovely weekend. Thankfully the kids are almost done with their Easter eggs so that particular temptation will be eliminated soon!

Rowgtfc72 · 16/04/2023 15:03

Afternoon!
Sort of behaved last week. Weighed in at 15 1. Nurse clocked me at 15 7 last Tues. Scales are a bit different so means I've lost 3 or 4 pounds.
I'll take that.

23usrnm · 16/04/2023 20:49

Wow that’s fantastic- well done Rowgtfc72!!

Notanothernewname · 17/04/2023 07:37

Well not lost any weight in fact I've put it on. To top it off I was meant to do circuits this morning but I'm suffering really bad DOMS from leg day yesterday and can hardly move. I also fell off my bike spectacularly yesterday, aggravated an arm injury and cut my palm. So not sure if the pain is also from that.

Its a new week though so just get back on and start again.

JeanMarsh · 17/04/2023 09:15

@23usrnm that’s exactly what I would love, to be able to feel some muscle or bone rather than layers of fat, well done. I have read a million times that weights are the way to go for the over 50s but I am lazy.

Well done @Rowgtfc72 thats great.

@Notanothernewname I’ve gained too. Slept badly as workmen in today and I dread it so much it affects my sleep! Pathetic of me.

Have a good day everyone.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 18/04/2023 11:26

Hello
I did a good week before Easter - cut out all snacks, low carbs, IF - lost 1lb!
it all went out the window Easter week as we were on an extended family holiday - lots of wine, chocolate, pizza - lost 1lb! WTAF??

BansheeofInisherin · 20/04/2023 16:44

I have lost a kilo since I last posted about a week ago. Not that much, I know, but every little helps. I put it down to drastically increasing protein by eating more Greek yoghurt and eggs, and walking more as weather has been nicer. I hope I can sustain it instead of yo-yoing.

lechatnoir · 20/04/2023 23:57

My fab gp is doing a full blood work up as I queried thyroid issues (peri symptoms along with weight gain and constantly tired and cold). And I've joined slimming world and lost half a stone so feeling a lot more positive.

JeanMarsh · 21/04/2023 11:53

I’ve lost 1 lb, don’t laugh, I am delighted and it makes me determined to hunker down and try harder.

beguilingeyes · 21/04/2023 14:01

I gained three stone when I got married (late, I was 51), my husband is a bit of a feeder.
At the beginning of 2021 I was 15'3. I got some Mysimba and lost three stone in six months. It was a miracle for me. It was as though someone had flicked a switch and the cravings vanished. I didn't eat chocolate for six months.
Sadly, when I was 12'2 and aiming for 11 stone it stopped working.
I've put a stone back on and am desperately trying not to put on any more.

MenoRageisReal · 21/04/2023 22:34

Hello all, I need this thread! Would love to join you all.

Mid fifties, 5 foot 7 and I weighed this morning for the first time in ages and horrified to be 14 stone 9. Not on HRT.

That's the highest I've ever been, even more than 9 months pregnant. And about 3 stone heavier than I was 4-5 years ago. Yikes.

I don't drink alcohol and don't have a sweet tooth. I drink lots of water (2-3litres at least) and think I eat fairly healthily.

I've had health issues in the last 2-3 years that have limited my mobility and energy. My sleep is also poor and often interrupted due to fluctuating pain. I think this may lead me to eat more, looking for energy to get through the day.

I had success on low carb many many moons ago when it was the "new thing" and would like to see if I can do it again, although will have to adapt to family meals now. I have an impressionable teen so don't want to make a fuss about " special diet" etc but emphasise eating for health.

Exercise is difficult for me but I will try to "move more" when I can.

I look forward to hearing more of your inspirational stories.

JeanMarsh · 22/04/2023 10:14

@MenoRageisReal I am similar age to you, not on hrt, and have a DD16. I have 2 stone to lose. I find that my DD really doesn’t notice if I have roast cauliflower instead of potatoes and fill my plate with vegetables. She understands I am trying to get my tummy measurements from 41 inches down a few inches for my health and I would like to be able to see my toes.

rockingbird · 22/04/2023 10:44

I've opted to start attacking my calories whilst also doing Keto. I've got several worksheets to download today and print .. interestingly last couple of days I've cut out bread and lowered my carbs and I'm far less bloated so going to give it a good go.!

JeanMarsh · 24/04/2023 11:36

Lost another 1lb. Went on the cross trainer for the first time this year. It took so long to burn off 100kc (I know it’s not completely accurate)! 7 weeks to my 56th birthday, feeling determined.

How is everyone else doing? I would love some company.

JeanMarsh · 24/04/2023 11:41

Oh God, I went back to see when I joined this thread and it was 27/03 and I weighed 2 lbs less than I do now, that’s depressing. I clearly joined the thread and gained weight.

BansheeofInisherin · 24/04/2023 12:09

What exercise do you all do to tone up? I am not that overweight, just very flabby. But I also hate exercise. Thinking I should start swimming but it is so time consuming and a faff. I lift light weights but need to scale up on that too.

BansheeofInisherin · 24/04/2023 12:10

@JeanMarsh Clearly the thread's fault!

poorbuthappy · 24/04/2023 13:46

Id like to join pls! I had an hysterectomy in sept so am on HRT. I keep fiddling with my patches as I'm convinced they aren't helping with the weight gain trying to find the balance between being angry and fat 😁. I lost just over a stone in lockdown doing low carb bootcamp on here and it bloody worked for me. Until life opened up again and I can not stick to it and eat outside of the home. So this morning I acknowledged its all gone back on and joined SW. I am 11 8 at 5ft5 so overweight.

JeanMarsh · 24/04/2023 14:03

@BansheeofInisherin haha it’s all on me.

@poorbuthappy welcome, we are the same height and similar weight.

Orangesandlemons77 · 24/04/2023 21:06

Oh, I will join you if that is Ok. I'm 46 and recovering from shingles, so been more sedentary than usual and gained weight.

I'm not even wanting to look at the scales but know I'm in the obese category. I measured my blood pressure today and it was a bit high so I want to make changes.

I'm having these purition shakes instead on meals some days. That is a start. Going to start walking then maybe swimming - need a new costume. been putting it off due to tiredness and pain.

Oh and to cut down on coffee as well.
