Anyone care to join me in trying to lose some weight.

I really need to sort myself out but I seem to have zero willpower. I would love some company.

I will weigh myself tomorrow. There will be tears.

Thank you for your advice.

I've been having weetabix because I've recently had a well woman check and my cholesterol was 8.4. I read somewhere that weetabix is a good breakfast for helping lower my cholesterol (also, I've always been led to believe that eggs are really bad to eat if you have high cholesterol).

I'm finding it all so confusing. I'm eating loads of fruit but now I'm worried that the sugar in that is bad for me.

I've downloaded the Glucose Revolution to my Audible, I'll have a listen on my drive to work 🙂

Eggs aren't bad cholesterol. I eat eggs every single day and my cholesterol is fine. Your cholesterol is high because your diet isn't great but also because you're menopausal - high cholesterol in menopause is common. HRT can help lower cholesterol.

Not all sugar is terrible, but some are terrible. All the fruit you're consuming just means that your blood sugars are constantly crashing. If you must eat fruit, berries lower on the glycemic tables. In this respect, this might be useful.

Some women have to radically overhaul their diets and the food they eat during menopause. Maybe book an appointment with a dietician or nutritionist who specialises in woman's health. I think you would find this useful.

Everything You Want to Know About the Low Glycemic Diet

The low glycemic diet may aid weight loss and reduce blood sugar levels. There are drawbacks too. Here is everything you want to know.

My cholesterol is also high due to
hypercholesterolaemia, so I'm really going to have to work hard to bring it down.

On another note, WHERE HAVE ALL THE OTHER FATTIES GONE?

I want to know other's experiences and how everyone is getting on?

George4567 · 29/04/2023 07:23

I'm late to the party but can I join?
I'm 5' 2 and yesterday I finally stood on the scales and I'm 11 st 8. I can't believe it. Well, I can actually. The last time I went on a diet was in 2018 because I was appalled to be 10 7.
I also have a tiny frame - so anything over 9 2 ish is big for me.
I feel sick at the thought of all the work ahead.
I have also just started hrt so would like to blame that but honestly it's just me stuffing my face.
Had a lot of success with an adapted keto before so will go for that. It's going to be tough!

What is adapted keto?

Sunonface · 29/04/2023 07:46

Hi

It's so hard to lose weight post meno. So, so hard. I do tons of weights, try really really hard to have almost no carbs/sugar and eat around 1300 cals a day, and I still can't lose a pound. It's miserable

George4567 · 29/04/2023 07:55

Adapted keto was just me changing the keto rules a bit - I'm vegetarian so ate more nuts than are strictly allowed and also more root veg and some beans. Also more fruit. It did work though.

mysparkleismissing · 29/04/2023 08:14

I definitely need to read all of this

cloudjumper · 29/04/2023 09:47

Joining you! I'm now at my heaviest if ever been - last time I weighed that much I was pregnant with my son, and that was 12 years ago! I put on 2 stone within a year, and no matter how much I watch what I each and exercise, it's not shifting!
I've just ordered the Fast 800 books, psyching myself up for that, I'm desperate- the weight is now really having a bad impact on my life, and I want a complete reset.

JeanMarsh · 29/04/2023 10:46

Hi everyone, I am still trying, it’s excruciatingly slow. If anyone is interested this is what I have been doing:

breakfast is a mug of milky coffee
lunch is a poached egg and 4 asparagus
dinner is a beef burger or a salmon fillet or a chicken breast with 5 veg (broccoli/mushrooms/cauliflower/courgettes/spinach)

exercise is 30 mins on cross trainer most days

In the last week I’ve gone up and down the same 1 lb. I am drinking wine every night which is obviously where I am going wrong. I need to stop the wine habit.

rockingbird · 30/04/2023 07:47

Morning all, yesterday was my first step on the scales .. I closed my eyes and went for it. 10st 13lb (not as bad as I thought it would be) but I've been consciously counting the calories all week so may have even softened the blow. Still pushing on with Keto. No bread, pasta, rice, only berries for fruit and plums which I love. Breakfast consists of full fat Greek yogurt and berries - I snack on nuts which I've put into individual portions so I don't go mad on them. I'm allowing myself a cuppa in the morning then it's water water water.. last night dinner was Chicken Fajitas and I had mine without the wrap and a nice sprinkle of cheese on top in a bowl. I'm trying to steer clear of treats (cakes/sweets/biscuits) for now.. need to look at the macros for protein/fat .. definitely feel less bloated

Rowgtfc72 · 30/04/2023 13:35

1st of May tomorrow and I'll be going for it!
Upping my walking to 5 miles a day and bought some ryvita to save me emptying the fridge when I get in from work. They take forever to eat when covered in peanut butter and all it needs to do is keep my mouth busy!

JeanMarsh · 30/04/2023 13:48

I’ll be going for it tomorrow too. If I want to feel good for holidays this summer it’s kind of last chance time.

OrangeSofa1 · 30/04/2023 14:41

@JeanMarsh wine is my downfall too. Though I managed to do dry Jan a couple of years ago and expected the weight to melt off. It didn’t. So I think I might as well enjoy it!

TheLoupGarou · 30/04/2023 23:14

I'm still here! Made no effort over Easter and then had some life stuff going on that meant I couldn't really focus until the last week or so: but since then I've really been trying to eat consciously and I have joined the gym (and have actually been!) I weighed myself yesterday and I have lost 1.3lb so hopefully it keeps going in the right direction. DH and I have both decided we need a bit of a lifestyle overhaul, as he has had some health issues lately, so that helps with my motivation.

I had to give myself a real talking to - I lost a lot of weight about 5 years ago and kept it off but then it all crept back during covid.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 01/05/2023 15:57

Hello

very very very very slowly losing weight.
slowly.

can someone critique my food tomorrow?

breakfast - at 10.30 - Greek yoghurt with two scoops of vanilla protein powder, and a small handful of no added sugar fruit and nut muesli

lunch - granary bread (don’t usually have bread but cupboard was bare) sandwich with two slices of quorn chicken, green salad, bit of coleslaw.

snack - grenade protein bar

supper - homemade veggie chilli with lots of veg, beans and soya mince, potato wedges, salad, grated cheese

low calorie hot chocolate.

thanks!! x

Twoshoesnewshoes · 01/05/2023 15:57

That should say today

MenoRageisReal · 01/05/2023 22:46

I am still reading but have had a LOT of socialising with birthdays etc in the last month so haven't weighed or been very mindful.
The birthday photos are something to behold though so I need to get my very lardy arse into gear.

ThePoshUns · 03/05/2023 06:19

Still interested. Have been calorie counting. In March lost one measly pound.
Went away on the weekend and could cry at the photos I look worse than I imagined.
Although I have started on a probiotic supplement and almost overnight my bloated stomach has reduced so hoping over time they may help.

ThePoshUns · 03/05/2023 06:23

I'm too scared to get on the scales as every time I have thinking I've been eating well / less there is no change. So depressing.

DeeCeeCherry · 03/05/2023 06:37

Low carbing works. But I've found it still takes much longer to shift the weight post-menopause, no matter what you do. You have to stick with it and resolve to change what you eat. I have a big appetite but eg breakfast yesterday was bacon & eggs with a load of spinach and small dab of avocado mayonnaise on the side. Very low carb. I'm lazy af with food planning and I don't want to spend time on all that either, so I'll have same for breakfast today and probably tomorrow. Bread is my biggest crave. I make 90 second keto bread in microwave, that's solved the problem.

xPaz · 03/05/2023 07:12

That sounds easy, to make the keto bread in the microwave, just as you need it. I used to bake about 6 rolls at a time in the oven.
What do you put in the 90 second microwave keto bread @DeeCeeCherry ?

Patchworksack · 03/05/2023 07:30

Hi - can I join you? 48, just started HRT, a stone overweight (64kg currently but short) and identifying with the raw dough comments. I have really struggled to exercise due to fatigue, sore joints and post exercise muscle pain and really hoping HRT will help with that. My husband is diet controlled type 2, cycles to work every day and just makes me feel inadequate ( not through anything he says, just in comparison). I have been half heartedly park running for years and he knocks minutes off his PB whilst I plod round getting slower as the years go by. So depressing.
I am going to try IF as my main issue is eating crap in the evening. My meals are already low carb mostly to fit in with DH but that doesn’t extend to Pringles and ice cream….
I’m now understanding why my mum seems to eat barely anything! Look forward to hearing how you all get on.

This is me!

I have been inspired by my friend who has lost 3st at 50 by doing the following:
Intermittent fasting
Eating clean
Gym class every day

I'm peri. On HRT with 3st to lose.
HRT makes me fatter. But stops the join pains. So makes exercising easier.

I'd love to join you!

OrangeBlossomTime · 03/05/2023 07:48

Oh and am trying not to drink any alcohol!

hamstersarse · 03/05/2023 08:05

I’m 49 and def peri.

My BMI is 21 but it only comes from really watching what I eat. I do exercise a lot but that also def makes no difference to my weight, perhaps some toning but not weight

Most people wouldn’t do what I do on food though. I started keto but am now carnivore / ancestral diet. So eggs, steaks, meat, cheese, raw milk, honey and berries. No seed oils.

I feel great and am not in menopausal body status, my skin is good and really good energy levels. Sleep like a baby, However for most people this will be too extreme from their starting place.

All I can say is that if I’m away or with friends and the only options are shit food, it’s instant instant flabbiness gain
