Anyone care to join me in trying to lose some weight.

I really need to sort myself out but I seem to have zero willpower. I would love some company.

I will weigh myself tomorrow. There will be tears.

Been away for a lovely weekend with visiting family and friends.
Photos just been posted online- I look like a red faced weebil.
Gutted.

JeanMarsh · 25/04/2023 12:09

@Rowgtfc72 no idea what a weebil is, we’ve all had a horrible photo shock, in mine I have 4 chins, maybe try to see it as your before photo.

JeanMarsh · 25/04/2023 12:13

@Rowgtfc72 just reread your earlier post where you said you lost 2 stone last year but have put it back on. That shows you know what you need to do to lose it again. I know how you feel, I lost 11 lb this year very slowly but regained it all in 6 weeks mainly by eating toast and crisps. I am furious with myself.

Rowgtfc72 · 25/04/2023 12:14

@JeanMarsh 1970s plastic toy. Weebles wobble but they don't fall down! Round plastic toy.
It will be most definitely be my before photo.

Gherkingreen · 25/04/2023 12:24

I've recently started 16:8 (dinner by 7pm, brunch around 11am or midday the next day), dropped the unhealthy snacks and alcohol, reduced bread/pasta and upped the exercise and it's working wonders for my peri-stomach, my sleep, my puffy under-eyes and my energy. Am also taking HRT.
I don't want to restrict any foods completely so this pattern seems to suit me.

BansheeofInisherin · 25/04/2023 12:25

16: 8 also helps me, though so hard to stick to.

Justonemorecoffeeplease · 25/04/2023 15:19

Please can I join too? Nearly fifty and not much over 5ft. Since breaking my ankle a few years ago I have been less active( used to run 15k a week and do additional classes). Weight has piled on. 80 kilos! Having lost both parents in the last two years I'm definitely feeling my mortality. I'm going to try and move more and eat less. Diet wise not going to start anything too drastic - tried IF 2 days a week but it was expensive and I found it hard to stick to. I'm using a calorie counting app to be more accountable. Family meals are so difficult as my husband and children can eat anything it seems...

TheLoupGarou · 25/04/2023 16:33

With 16:8 what drinks are ok in the not eating window? Could I have a morning coffee with oat milk? I don't mind herbal tea/water in the evening but I'm not a fan of black coffee 😬 maybe I just need to learn to love it.....

TheLoupGarou · 25/04/2023 16:34

(also have managed to put weight on over Easter - healthy eating starts tomorrow as I have had my head down studying for an exam and comfort eating!)

Gherkingreen · 25/04/2023 17:14

@TheLoupGarou it looks like the 16 8 pattern recommends water/herbal tea/black coffee/tea in the fasting hours but I'll be honest, I'd struggle/be very sad to not drink tea with skimmed milk every morning (maybe I also need to look at my caffeine addiction!) so I don't follow it to the letter.
Still seem to be shifting a little weight so am sticking with my cheats version.

JaffaCake70 · 25/04/2023 19:13

I know I'm late to the party but please can I join?

I'm 52 (53 next month) probably perimenopausal but not sure as I have a Mirena coil and haven't had a period since it was fitted (I'm having it removed in a few weeks)'

I'm 5ft 3 and at my well woman check 6 weeks ago I weighed 14st 8lbs. I was well and truly gutted. I'd expected to be around 12st 7lbs. I'm actually heavier than I was during my first pregnancy where I gained 4 stone.

I was told at my well woman check that I have high blood pressure and my cholesterol is 8.4 😩I need to shed this weight for the sake of my health.

I've managed to lose 4lbs in the six weeks since the check. I've joined the gym and go 2 to 3 times per week, I'd like to go more but it's difficult due to family and work commitments. I also play badminton once a week and have bought a new swimming cossie and plan to start swimming once or twice a week starting this weekend.

I'm vegetarian (for the past 30 odd years) so struggle for ways to up my protein as fish and chicken are out of the question and one can only eat so much cheese and eggs!

I've been feeling I have no support apart from my (lovely) Husband, but he's a big softy and just tells me I'm not fat! I am fat, I most definitely am fat!!

Just remembered song from weeble advert:

Weebles Wobble but they don't fall down......

Apt for our group here don't you think? 😂

Justonemorecoffeeplease · 25/04/2023 20:55

Absolutely great name!

Have skipped supper which was pasta but quite keen on the homemade rhubarb crumble with custard. Still, at least I’ve done 40 minutes of good activity by walking the dog! 😂

KittyTalbot · 26/04/2023 00:06

I would love to join please... any assistance with losing the 50lb that I need to lose would be much appreciated!!

I had my photo taken yesterday at the DC's sports club. I thought I looked reasonably ok. Saw the photo - I did not look reasonably ok Sad

rockingbird · 26/04/2023 17:59

I've bought some scales.. too scared to get on them 😬 I'm attempting Keto and I'm currently nibbling nuts until dinner!! This is day 3.. I've eaten a lot of eggs (good job I'm single) also nuts and Raspberries.. I'm desperate to lose some of this weight!! The sun came out today and I almost cried. I reckon I'm about 11st and the last proper weight I recall in lockdown was 10st and I thought that was bad. A colleague has seen amazing results with Keto hence me giving it a try. I hit my target weight 5 yrs back with slimming world but it slowly crept back on. One thing I've noticed already is I'm nowhere near as blotches as I was!

23usrnm · 26/04/2023 18:35

Hi all
welcome to all the newcomers!
It really is so hard to lose weight at this age. My initial weight loss has slowed and I’m just about managing not to put on weight. Tracking every calorie and trying to minimise carbs. Avoiding alcohol apart from one small but lovely glass of red at the weekend. Eating out I’ve become quite good at ordering a salad and actually enjoying it. My downfall is sweet stuff though and I’ve realised I am better off not even having a nibble of something as the tiniest taste just sets off my sugar cravings.
I also need to up my exercise but really struggling to fit it on on the days I am in the office which is most of the week. Too tired in the evening and too rushed in the morning and too busy all day. I am trying to walk a bit more though which is better than nothing, eg did a fast 20 minute walk today when I had a gap between meetings. Not enough time for the gym and all the faff but enough time for a brisk walk outside.

JaffaCake70 · 26/04/2023 20:46

Would anyone like to comment on what I've eaten today (positive & negative comments welcome).

Breakfast - 1 weetabix with skimmed milk, 1 banana, 1 satsuma, 1 cup of coffee, milk no sugar.

Mid morning - 1 low fat babybel

Lunch - mixed salad of lettuce, carrot, tomatoes, red cabbage and spring onions with low fat french dressing, 4 small crackers with low fat cottagecheese, 1 low fat cherry yogurt, 1 pink lady apple, 1 orange, can of pepsi max.

Dinner - M&S creamy mushroom pasta ready meal (lazy, I know) 1 dark choc ice, cup of Options drinking chocolate.

An additional 2 cups of coffee, milk no sugar.

Is this too much food to lose weight?

JeanMarsh · 27/04/2023 15:11

@JaffaCake70 I don’t feel qualified to comment on what you’ve eaten other than to say I wouldn’t lose weight on it. But it probably depends on activity levels, age etc. I am retired so generally have the time to cook everything from scratch. I eat 2 meals a day, don’t have a sweet tooth but am still overweight. If I look at bread or pasta I gain weight fast.

JeanMarsh · 27/04/2023 15:42

Ok I am commenting now @JaffaCake70 😂, I think you forgot protein yesterday?

Rowgtfc72 · 27/04/2023 19:57

@JaffaCake70 I'd definitely lose weight on that. I have a 9 mile round trip cycle commute. 8 hrs on my feet at work and at least a 3 mile walk after work.

JeanMarsh · 27/04/2023 15:42

I know 😭 I'm vegetarian and find it difficult to get enough protein.

I did eat a babybel and 2 hard boiled eggs today though 😇

JeanMarsh · 27/04/2023 21:08

@Rowgtfc72 that’s interesting, I just bimble around, don’t get up till 9 am and try hard not to leave the house all week (live very rurally surrounded by fields).

Rowgtfc72 · 28/04/2023 08:31

@JeanMarsh I work over the other side of town and don't drive. There's a distinct lack of buses at 5am too. Unfortunately I've biked to the same area since 1997- no weightloss at all to be gained from my commute. I only seem to burn calories when walking.

Is this too much food to lose weight?

To be blunt, this is not the best way to be eating, particularly if you're trying to lose weight.

I know I would gain weight on this. Your breakfast alone would send my blood sugars and insulin levels through the roof.

I see you're a vegetarian but you need to find a way to eat way more protein. At the very least, if you eat eggs, eat these for breakfast. Stop eating weetabix, ditch the Pepsi, choc ice and hot chocolate. If you want to eat pasta, do so earlier in the day/for lunch. Drink lots of water. Instead of low fat dressing, make one with olive oil, apple cider vinegar (with the mother) & dijon mustard.

For many, dairy can inhibit weight loss.

Also, do you realise that full fat is better than low fat. This is because low fat food tends to contain more sugars. Even natural sugars like those found in skimmed milk will raise your insulin levels.

Maybe look at Glucose Revolution for a few ideas how to keep your blood sugars stable.

Thank you for your advice.

I've been having weetabix because I've recently had a well woman check and my cholesterol was 8.4. I read somewhere that weetabix is a good breakfast for helping lower my cholesterol (also, I've always been led to believe that eggs are really bad to eat if you have high cholesterol).

I'm finding it all so confusing. I'm eating loads of fruit but now I'm worried that the sugar in that is bad for me.

I've downloaded the Glucose Revolution to my Audible, I'll have a listen on my drive to work 🙂
