Orlistat

Hi, I have just started taking Orlistat today and I can see lots of old threads about it but none recently posted so just wondering if anyone else on here is on this same journey? I have around 5-6 stone that I could do with losing so my doctor suggested Xenical as a starting point. I have Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome too and I am sure my weight at 18.5 stone won't be helping those. Any friendly advice or chat would be greatly appreciated Smile

I’ve just ordered some Orlistat online. Had long covid in 2020 and can’t shift the weight that resulted from months of no exercise. Really glad I found this group to help me on my journey!

AcerPacer79 · 30/04/2023 18:37

@2ndMrsdeWinter welcome x x glad to have you join on the journey x best of luck with them.

Well I've finally started today, just had a bowl of muesli with skimmed milk and my first tablet. Weighed in this morning and I've got about seven stone to lose 😩so it's going to be a long slog!

One of my meals out has been rearranged to tomorrow night and I'm a bit nervous about that! I'll try to make sensible choices but the menu is lacking a bit in healthy options! Don't want any issues on the train home🙂

LadyLump · 02/05/2023 12:01

Think I'm going to join in too, I need to lose about 6 stone to get to a decent bmi. For people who've ordered online, have you ordered orlos or orlistat? Orlos says its 60mg and orlistat is 120mg. I could get it through my gp, but they are so backlogged atm, I rang for a blood test this morning and they can't do it until the end of June so I would probably be able to start quicker if I get it online. I'm just not sure which strength to go for

LadyLump · 02/05/2023 12:01

I just wondered if orlistat is better as it's stronger?

I went with Orlistat as thought stronger dose probably gets better results. Only just started though. Ordered online via Oxford Pharmacy as they didn’t require a photo. Though I am in the obese category so I’m the right weight for it.

AcerPacer79 · 07/05/2023 12:11

@Twinstudy good luck with your start, I'm sure you will be fine :-)

@LadyLump I would say the Orlistat would be better as double the dosage.

I've been away for work this week so I've hardly been taking my pills and I have maintained my weight loss but obviously not lost anymore so back on them today to kick start myself again x

I've been using it for a few days now.

Not had any drastic side effects, just using the loo a bit more often, if you know what I mean.

Hope everyone's doing ok and Good Luck everyone

2ndMrsdeWinter · 07/05/2023 14:16

I’ve been using since Thursday but no changes in bowel habits yet. It it too early or am I doing something wrong?

Twinstudy · 07/05/2023 14:53

Started on Tuesday and so far so good! We're out for dinner tonight, going for Thai and I've just seen there's steamed seabass on the menu so think I'll go for that.

Not really had much by way of side effects. Weighed myself yesterday (which I know is stupid, really need to just weigh in once a week) and 2lbs down but my weight fluctuates so I'll wait until proper weigh in on Tuesday 😁

It's definitely making me more conscious of what I eat and that can only be a good thing! Hope everyone else is doing ok!

AcerPacer79 · 07/05/2023 16:19

@2ndMrsdeWinter it took 4 days for me to start to notice a difference with my Toilet treats 🤣 give it time and you will notice, everyone's digestive system work's differently anyway x

Thank you @AcerPacer79 - you’re right. I’m going to try to be patient 😅

StrangerBings · 13/05/2023 11:40

Can I join in the journey too please?

I started taking Orlistat this week (3rd day today). I want to loose 3 stone which has crept on from the menopause and back issues causing me to exercise less.

I'm fairly sensible with food, eating a balanced diet and no snacking. But...I like to have a drink or three on a Friday and Saturday. I'll try and cut back on my drinks and just try to reduce my calories.

It's strange as I have felt less of an appetite since I started but this might be psychosomatic! I had a bit of a sore tummy this morning but haven't done a number 2. I'm normally severely constipated so I'm hoping this helps. One strange side effect is that my skin odour has changed. It's definitely the tablets as it's unlike any odour I have had before. Has anyone else had this? X

AcerPacer79 · 13/05/2023 15:29

@StrangerBings of course x welcome x
I have not noticed any body odour changing smell but my number 1 and 2 are definitely smelling different 🤣 x x

I've lost 8lb so far in a month, doesn't sound like much 2lb a week on average but has kick started the weight loss, I couldn't do on my own.

Twinstudy · 16/05/2023 09:56

@samestyle 8lbs in a month is great! I've lost 3 lbs in 2 weeks and happy enough with that (especially since it's been a busy 2 weeks with meals out, BBQs and wine 😁)

samestyle · 16/05/2023 10:38

@Twinstudy well done keep going, 3lb for the first two weeks is good 👍

Florencenotflo · 16/05/2023 11:11

Just reading through all of these messages so sorry if it's already been explained.

I tried these when I was about 16 (prescribed by my gp) but was given no guidance at all. So I carried on eating rubbish and taking these so the side effects were awful. I gave up after a month because I couldn't go out. Obviously now I know I wasn't using them correctly.

But did anyone give you guidance on what to eat and how to use them? I'm thinking of giving them another try, but I'll obviously make sure I'm better informed than last time. There is much more online now too which is really useful.

samestyle · 16/05/2023 11:54

@Florencenotflo I'm not eating the amount I was before I started, it's really a short term solution to kick start the weight loss, to avoid the side affects, don't eat high fat processed food, eat two -three sensible sized portions as your main meals, if I'm hungry inbetween I will eat zero fat Greek yogurt and fruit, it works alongside eating less and better choices, you will still need to keep up the habit when you come off them. Reading from these forums really help.

Florencenotflo · 17/05/2023 15:48

Thanks @samestyle . Well I did an E-consult form this morning with my GP and my prescription will be ready to be picked up tomorrow 😊 I thought it would take a while or be harder but obviously not 😂

I will do some googling tonight and put a plan together.

GlumBear · 27/05/2023 20:58

Would it be a really bad idea to have full fat milk still in tea for example when using orlistat? I just prefer the taste is all!

AcerPacer79 · 28/05/2023 07:18

@GlumBear hi, I think you should still be okay to have that. I guess as long as you are not drinking gallons at a time of it ? For me, that seems like a healthy fat anyway and it's full of some of the vitamins that the pills affect you absorbing so would be good to have.

OP posts:
AcerPacer79 · 28/05/2023 07:20

I'm on holiday at the moment, took my pills with me with all intentions of taking them but have only done that for the first couple of days 🙄 I am coming home Tuesday and will get straight back on them. Although I've not taken the tablets religiously, I have found myself still trying to make healthier choices for food

Mummyginge22 · 28/05/2023 12:45

Hi! I am going to be asking the Dr about these pills due to always struggling with weight loss & even more since having my little boy 14 weeks ago! Dieting and just gaining weight, my only question is if you decide to have say a mcdonalds does your body react bad to it or would you just skip the pills for that day?

Smoky1107 · 28/05/2023 13:40

Hi everyone I've been on them a month now, lost half a stone. At weekends I tend to not take them as I should so I'm really happy with that
