Orlistat

AcerPacer79 · 08/03/2023 17:04

Hi, I have just started taking Orlistat today and I can see lots of old threads about it but none recently posted so just wondering if anyone else on here is on this same journey? I have around 5-6 stone that I could do with losing so my doctor suggested Xenical as a starting point. I have Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome too and I am sure my weight at 18.5 stone won't be helping those. Any friendly advice or chat would be greatly appreciated Smile

I shouldn't have looked at Facebook! Now I'm terrified to start in case of an accident at work

samestyle · 25/04/2023 21:44

@Smoky1107 if you're nervous try just one tablet at first for your first day see how your body reacts but along as you avoid high fat processed food you should be fine, I started nearly two weeks ago and nothing bad has happened, I've noticed I'm peeing more but that's it.
I'm looking slightly less bloated in the face and overall, I'll weigh in on Thursday and see how much I've lost.

AcerPacer79 · 26/04/2023 06:36

@samestyle yes I have noticed extra peeing too and less full and puffy in the face.

I'm following this thread with interest.

I tried Ozempic injections to lose weitht but it didn't work for me (too many bad side effects with constipation, nausea & vomiting). I wonder if this could be a better alternative for me so I will follow for a while and Good Luck everyone

wtfisgoingonhere21 · 26/04/2023 09:21

I've been watching this thread as am three stone overweight and really need to shift it.

My knees and ankles ache and I walk like slugsy at the minute.

I can't stop putting junk in my mouth and after yet another weekend of finding nothing to fit or comfortable I've had enough.

I've just been on boots online and it's named as alli on there.

Is that the right one?

AcerPacer79 · 26/04/2023 10:40

@wtfisgoingonhere21 Alli is the same stuff but the 60mg over the counter version. If you ask the doctor they should be able onto to prescribe the double strength 120mg ones x that's what I am on. It's working for me and I've got 4-5 stone to lose

AcerPacer79 · 26/04/2023 10:42

@Twiglets1 is that like the Saxanda injections? I've had no real side affects with these tablets so it might be a good alternative for you x

Yes it is @AcerPacer79

I'm definitely interested in the idea of these tablets. I've only got about 2 stone to lose so I wonder if I should start with the 60mg tablets from Boots and see how I get on with those? It's great you've had no real side effects

Smoky1107 · 26/04/2023 11:11

So I've weighed myself finally, and it was exactly as I predicted to the pound!
I have just under three stone to loose put me into a healthy weight bracket.

Taken my first tablet with weetabix breakfast.
My fave singer has just announced a small show in London so my motivation is set as I will want to look great so perfect timing

Sounds like you're doing well. Hopefully if you aren't eating too much fat, there's a lower risk of side effects. I guess we'll find out!

Do you have orlistat prescribed? I have a GP appointment in 2 weeks, going to see if they'll prescribe it. I've bought 2 weeks worth to see how it goes first.

I'm struggling for tea ideas as I'm really nervous about going over calories and fat. So far I'm sticking to chicken and veg but need to mix it up. Any suggestions?

Salmon cooked on a piece of foil with a squirt of lime juice wrapped into a little parcel in the oven for 22 mins is good with 4 baby new boiled potatoes with skin on and peas are good. Low carb and low fat but high protein is the way to go, to lose weight. I have melon afterwards. It makes a welcome change from chicken.

hairypaws · 26/04/2023 19:00

Great to hear all the positive stories. I'm on day 3 and totally bunged up. I'm sticking to 15g fat each meal. I haven't been since end of last week. I usually only go once a week but was hoping orlistat would help even this out.

Are any of you chronic sufferers of constipation and orlistat has helped?

samestyle · 26/04/2023 19:16

@hairypaws yes same here, I have stomach of steel, nearly two weeks and the last 24hrs it's been easier to go, might be something to do with having a few Pringles yesterday.

hairypaws · 26/04/2023 19:26

@samestyle maybe I'll overload on fats Friday night to try for a clear out over the weekend 🤣. It's getting a bit uncomfortable now. I could try my gentle laxative at night time but worried in case that causes an eruption.

AcerPacer79 · 27/04/2023 05:20

@hairypaws I got constipated for the first 4 days before it sorted itself out but then I often suffer with that or the opposite so didn't really notice it as a side effect. I'm sure you will get moving today or tomorrow x

I've lost 6lb in two weeks, it's a good start seeing it go down in the right direction.

Twiglets1 · 27/04/2023 09:07

I've taken the plunge and ordered Orlistat online. With my typical impatience I ticked the box for 24 hour delivery so could be starting from tomorrow 😬

AcerPacer79 · 27/04/2023 13:37

@samestyle that's brilliant! Congratulations x

So I'm onto day 3 tmrw. So far it's been ok!! I was starving at the station tonight so ate a banana and I hate them, but I need to change habits and also couldn't risk an incident on the train Shock

Thank you!

I didn't check my emails until late and then saw that they won't dispense them until I upload 2 photos so I won't get them today after all.

Don't know if this is normal. Was a bit surprised as I didn't have to do that with Ozempic which was injections! Maybe depends on supplier.

AcerPacer79 · 28/04/2023 06:54

@Twiglets1 I guess it's because you are only really supposed to take them if your BMI is higher than the recommended?

OP posts:
AcerPacer79 · 28/04/2023 06:56

I am struggling a bit this week if I'm honest. I have actually put a pound back on and I think it's because I've become too complacent with my eating. I eat my feelings and my week is not going great so I need to kick start myself again

Yes but that's the same for Ozempic and some of those suppliers don't require photos they just get you to fill out a questionnaire. I understand the reasons though. Just not very good with uploading photos but I'll get help to do it today.

Sorry to hear that Acer.

Losing weight is such a mental struggle. Today is a new day.

hairypaws · 28/04/2023 15:10

I started calorie counting and orlistat on Monday and today I'm down 2.4lbs 🥳. So chuffed. Don't know where its gone as I've been bunged up all week 🤣.

@AcerPacer79 sorry you are finding it a bit tougher this week. I'll be the same very soon. I do first couple of weeks no bother then my bad habits resurface - its so difficult.
