My sister in law thinks that getting drunk results in being thinner in the morning. I have not scientifically tested this.

For me, it's put curly wurlies in the fridge then have one slowly with a cup of tea for a 'treat'.

Green apple, cut into slices and a pint of water.

flabbygoldfish · 04/02/2023 12:46

Weigh yourself daily, at the same time, and write it down. This helps you recognise small fluctuations and also 'proper' weight loss\gain. Also helps maintain focus, I am an out of sight out of mind type person so need that daily reminder that I need to lose weight.

PotatoCatkin · 04/02/2023 12:49

Intermittent fasting - don't eat or drink anything other than water and black coffee or herbal/fruit/green tea between 8pm and 12pm.

Cut out all ultra processed food.

Cut out most refined sugar.

Cut out refined carbs.

Any one of those should make a difference. I'm doing all of them plus maximising my veg intake and the pounds are dropping off. Plus I never have cravings or feel especially hungry any more- and I was a total snack, sugar and carb monster!

rumred · 04/02/2023 12:54

Don't buy biscuits. Or crisps. Up the protein (note to self}

I bloody love breakfast! I have allbran every day or as my dad calls it, 'super fast fibre' 🤣

I can't drop carbs. But I'm a big fan of having a small dinner and going to bed hungry. My granny swore by that too. Not for weight loss, she was an Aberdonian protestant and terrified of joy.

genuine lol from an Aberdonian here!

Clean your teeth at 4pm, then nothing but water until breakfast.

Eat food, not products.

Walk between 5 and 10 miles a day.

What’s macros?

My tip is beans on toast for lunch with a poached egg

you’re not hungry again - small dinner, bed.

Macronutrients- so protein, carbs and fat

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 04/02/2023 13:54

Otterock · 04/02/2023 11:03

Macros are just as important if not more so than calories. Balancing macros within a calorie limit was game changing for me. Lost a stone whilst eating chocolate on porridge most mornings!

OK, @Otterock, I know this is a really stupid question, but I've never understood what macros are, are you able to explain them to me in words of one syllable, please?
Also, @MorrisZapp - intermittent fasting, high protein and low carb. So, not eating before at least midday, and not eating after around 7.00pm. (Going to bed hungry, as another poster mentioned.)

Wykkid · 04/02/2023 14:05

How do you make the 8 hour eating window work if you do a gym workout first thing?

I work nights and I’m conscious about putting a bit of fuel into my body to achieve a good workout. I’m already tired so can’t not eat before I go

Agreed.

If you retain water put dandelion drops in your glass of water and feel less bloated. Be running to the loo so only if at home. But in health food shop.

This is what I wanted! Weird shit 😂 I will buy these today, thank you.

Agree on the tips about upping protein, I've started to eat (or try to eat) my weight in lbs in grammes of protein and I feel so full doing that it's impossible to overreat other food!

Idlechitchat · 04/02/2023 15:27

I have a sweet tooth and I’m
out and about a lot most days so I keep cans of Diet Coke in my car boot to have if I get the urge to stop and buy chocolate 🙈

I bought some of those scales that connect to an app on your phone and try to weigh myself every morning.

Viviennemary · 04/02/2023 15:32

Don't eat bread. Don't eat in the evening.

FlowerArranger · 04/02/2023 15:37

I've got 4 tips...

Don't keep any crap food in the house. Especially booze, UPF and refined carbs.

Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.

Plus moderate amounts of protein. Eggs are protein bombs - only 70 calories but very filling. Always have some boiled eggs in the fridge.

Exercise. Every single day. It's compulsory - like showering and wearing clean clothes. Not for weight-loss per se, but it can be hugely motivational.

Scottishflower65 · 04/02/2023 16:04

If you think you feel hungry, fetch a whole cauliflower or broccoli and put it on a plate. Eat as much as you want until you don’t feel hungry anymore. I can guarantee it won’t be a lot!

Noicant · 04/02/2023 16:09

Minimum 100g protein a day. I’m getting in about 130g only keep a calorie deficit for 4 days a week (working on that, eat a lot at weekends) and losing 0.5 to 1lb a week (i’m like 12 stone though so this isn’t fast) but I’m never hungry.

There was a study on teens where they gave them breakfasts with 35g of protein they ended up eating on average 500 calories less through the day. Thats an entire meal and 1lb a week.

holesinmyknitting · 04/02/2023 16:13

My username is a clue! I have taken up knitting in the evenings and it distracts me from what usually ruins my weight loss efforts ( raiding the fridge/cupboards for something sweet at about 9pm)

FizzyStream · 04/02/2023 17:04

Lots of sparkling water! Fills you up and hydrates you.

Wheretheskyisblue · 04/02/2023 17:45

Wear trousers which are too tight for you. I find this curbs my appetite becuase eating is uncomfortable and I feel fat.

Just looked at the Harvard article on blood group diets and it said nothing has been proven and the is no real research to back this up.

soberfabulous · 04/02/2023 17:51

Brush your teeth at 7, go to bed at 8.

Elvis was put into a coma to lose weight at one point but I feel that's taking things a bit far

Spanielsarepainless · 04/02/2023 17:55

Fly to Delhi, eat a salad and an ice cream and fly back. I lost nearly a stone.

SuperGinger · 04/02/2023 18:15

@Spanielsarepainless sadly this did not work for me, I have a cast iron stomach. Ice cream, salad, swallowed tap water accidentally - all fine.

I'm fat at the moment and no supper helps and eating one almond if I'm starving takes the edge off
