My sister in law thinks that getting drunk results in being thinner in the morning. I have not scientifically tested this.

For me, it's put curly wurlies in the fridge then have one slowly with a cup of tea for a 'treat'.

Only twice in my life have I managed to lose weight without trying. In both cases it was dental work which restricted my eating. The first time I could only eat at mealtimes, and the second only softish food. I know what works but I don’t have the willpower to do it. So my tip is to have braces or an implant!

Llovecookies · 04/02/2023 18:21

Get divorced.

teraculum29 · 04/02/2023 18:23

Eat less process food, the shorter list of igredients the better chance is not processed.
Avoid sugar.
Stick to 3meals a day. No snacking in between (I find the snacking causing me to eat more).
Mouth wash between meals, It really helps with stopping snacking.

BananaHamhock · 04/02/2023 18:24

Stop eating carbs and beige food

LaTangerina · 04/02/2023 18:25

If you like bread/toast buy the bread that's 60 calories per slice, then you can have more 🍞

BessieSurtees · 04/02/2023 18:36

Do you not dip your curlywurly in your tea or do you just suck it?

kitsuneghost · 04/02/2023 18:42

My tip is if you fall off course 1 day, write that day off and don't try to 'make up for it' by starving yourself for the rest of the week.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 04/02/2023 18:46

Low carb and calorie counting at the same time.havent had a meal with potatoes, pasta, bread or rice for a month and ive lost 9 lbs

PrincessHoneysuckle · 04/02/2023 18:48

I've got ibs and most carbs set the pain and bloating off

userxx · 04/02/2023 18:49

Over active thyroid. It drops off.

Pandorapitstop · 04/02/2023 18:51

Plan your menus and make a shopping list

Time40 · 04/02/2023 18:59

If you really need a snack, make it fruit.

On at least some days, have a carb curfew (no carbs after lunchtime).

Do something active twice a day, rather than just once.

Georgyporky · 04/02/2023 18:59

Cut out the crap - and specifically breakfast cereals (with the possible exception of real porridge).
Protein all the way to keep you fuller for longer.

wibblewobbleball · 04/02/2023 19:03

My tip is to not write off the day/week/month if you go "off plan". Just make a healthy choice as soon as possible. So for example if I've been out for a Sunday roast with red wine and pudding - I enjoy it! But then instead of feeling bad about perhaps jeopardising weight loss, I just make a healthy choice as soon as possible - so I drink a big glass of water, I prep my healthy breakfast for the next morning, or some other small move towards being healthy. Then because the last thing I did was a healthy one I feel motivated to continue.

Forget about the scales and rigorously chose what to eat according to how you will feel immediately afterwards and for the hours say 24hrs thereafter.

Much as I love carbs, I easily get addicted to the highs and lows of the blood sugar rollercoaster. Low carbing gives me the control in order to make good choices around what to eat without feeling deprived.

When starting to eat a plate of food always eat your favourite food item first and then try to leave some of your least favourite foods, as soon as your feel even a little bit full.
if you save your favourite until last then you will always finish everything!

The problem with that is you'll eat e.g. the steak & kidney pie & leave the broccoli !

Holly76354 · 04/02/2023 19:15

My tip is fast in the morning. I don't eat until about 12, sometimes 1. Not every single day but most of the time. I cut back on sugar and I don't drink alcohol.

@Spanielsarepainless sadly this did not work for me, I have a cast iron stomach. Ice cream, salad, swallowed tap water accidentally - all fine.

I'm fat at the moment and no supper helps and eating one almond if I'm starving takes the edge off

One almond! You are clearly her maj, Liz Hurley

Cut down to two meals-brunch and early dinner, no snacks other than fruit and then only if you are really hungry.

Oddly enough this sort of works for me too, but only because if I have a glass of wine or 2 I tend to forget to eat food and the only time I tend to drink is if I am out having fun, so dancing, walking from pub to pub etc. I only drink red wine though, and as I said rarely these days. I also have found the following day I spend on the toilet, and as I suffer from constipation its a welcome relief this brings me. But as PP said a lot of the weight loss is dehydration, I have weighed 3 pounds lighter after a night out in the past.

I am now on the MN bootcamp so not drinking more that a glass if at all, and my tip would be to stop eating after 5pm, that has really helped me go from a size 24 to a size 10, and also recording everything on my phone app. If I guess calories etc as the diet progresses my portions would get bigger and bigger and the weight stall.

DalaiLlama · 04/02/2023 10:54

You might be lighter in the morning if you’re dehydrated.

My best tip for weight loss is just keep going. Don’t think you’ve blown it and start again next Monday. Keep going even if you’re not doing it perfectly.

Wish there was a like button, this is so true, keep on going and dont become despondent

tabulahrasa · 04/02/2023 19:42

My biggest tip isn’t that random really - anything works if it creates a calorie deficit.

The difference between them all is how sustainable they are for you - it really doesn’t matter if you do no snacking or all snacking, low carb or low fat, or even that weird all potato one that exists, whether you have breakfast or not... as long as it’s a method that you’re going to be able to realistically do longterm.

Jenasaurus · 04/02/2023 19:45

I have also noticed a drop in weight after having a hot stone massage the following day, not sure if its because having to get undressed for the masseuse makes me eat less so they don't have to contend with any additional flab.

I had one today and it was heaven (much appreciated vouchers from my DD) The lady told me that it helps circulation and detox which problem means it gets everything moving out of your system, actually when she worked on my lower back I did get scared I would pass wind as it felt like she was literally massaging it out of me. I gave up smoking and use the money saved for treats like this, as it makes me want to take care of myself in other ways too. Wish I had discovered this sooner, (nearly 60 now)

very true, also the motivation behind why you want to lose weight makes difference, in the past I would diet for aesthetics, like an upcoming wedding, holiday etc. This time I am doing it for health reasons, literally to stop me having any cardiac issues as was diagnosed with diabetes and high cholesterol 7 months ago. I read up on the condition and it could lead to blindness or amputation if I carried on with my poor diet and lazy lifestyle, so this time it hasn't been a 3 month diet, but a change forever. If I was healthy and overweight I wouldn't have been motivated enough to give up high carb and sugary treats.
