Is anyone else doing this? I started on Saturday (a little later than my planned 1st Jan start as I was skiing). So today I completed my first day of the 14 day phase 2.

I took the salts on Saturday but they didn't kick in until the evening so kids bedtime was fun.

I ate vegetables all weekend, drank black tea and coffee.

Today I have had:
B - Blueberries and Greek yogurt
L - Spicy mince with mushrooms, peppers and salad with ACV
D - 2 egg omelette with mushrooms and peppers and some cucumber and dessert was steamed apple sprinkled with cinnamon.

I have been sipping on fruit tea through the day (which I think is allowed).

I weighed in this morning and have lost 4 1/2 pounds so far - 148.8lbs starting weight and now am 144.5. So we will see how the weigh ins go...

Honestly I don't feel hungry, if I was to snack now it would be because of boredom rather than hunger which is why I'm planning to take myself to bed soon.

I'm really hoping to keep this up and complete all the phases but I would love to have a buddy? Is anyone else on the HBD wagon?

@DuckyLuck the cheese/dairy thing seems to be a variable. She suggests that we avoid dairy in P2 because it can cause problems for some people. But I think the advice is, if you know you don’t have an issue with dairy then it’s ok to have. I’ve been avoiding it. Am desperate for cheese and Greek yogurt next week! There are a few things where I have found the advice to be conflicting. Apparently nightshade veg should be avoided, but aubergines got me through P1! And sparkling vs still water. Version 2 of the book says sparkling should be avoided. Last night on the live she seemed to suggest it was ok. If in doubt I’m leaving it out!
Re the weight gain. Are you drinking enough water? Mostly in the morning? I haven’t gained but would have liked to have lost more! I’m down 7lbs (day 10 today) and have many days were there has been no change. And I have a lot to loose, about 3 stone, probably 4 if I’m honest! I did my measurements at the start. I am weighing daily, but haven’t checked my measurements yet. I’ll do that on Monday as I move into P3. When I plateau for a few days I’ve been trying to tell myself that there is good stuff happening internally and it’s not just about the weight loss! I mean it largely is, but I’m just trying to keep myself focused! Hang on in there. I love cauliflower rice, it has been my absolute saviour. I’ve got Pork fillet tonight, with cabbage in some chicken stock and ACV and some “roasted” green beans. Not sure how that will work without EVOO

How are you ladies holding out? I have just successfully navigated my second weekend with no alcohol. That's the longest I've been without booze since I did Dry January about five years ago.
Although in general it's been getting easier and I've been less hungry and the cravings are diminished, today was actually pretty hard. I got really hungry in the afternoon and was so close to grabbing a snack. But I held fast.
Wednesday is my last day of P2 but I think I'm going to make my evening meal a cheat meal and have a glass of wine. It's Valentine's after all.
Tuesday we're going to the theatre and I'm not quite sure how it's going to work because the play starts at 7 and is three hours long!
Maybe I'll take a salad with me and eat it before we go in.
But I am 10lbs down, so...
All in all a big thumbs up from me.
Hope you guys are still doing ok.

Mentaldays · 12/02/2024 07:40

@Z0rr0 your doing so well, it’s supposed to get easier as you go into fat burn mode.
I think having your cheat day a day early is a good plan especially as it’s Valentine’s Day ❤️.
I’ve just completed week 1 and lost 9lbs so super pleased with that. It’s motivated me to stay on track. Getting a bit fed up of my meals tho I have chicken or prawns stirred with garlic and ginger and par boiled veg and mixed together. Lovely but after a week very boring. I need to try to mix it up a bit this week.
Going to the theatre on Wednesday and going to try to eat before we go.
What are you thinking of having for your cheat meal? 💭

Ginthing · 12/02/2024 09:15

Whoop! Phase 2 completed! Down to 177kg this morning, which means I can now follow the recipes without the use of a calculator! I have avoided dairy up to now, and for breakfast have just inhaled a bowl of Greek yogurt and cherries. Omg. It was amazing. And I am remarkably full (hopefully not bloated!!) @Z0rr0 well done for not cracking over the weekend. I found this final weekend the hardest. The little demons saying, what harm could a glass of red do now, you’ve almost done it. But I held strong. Like you this is by far the longest I have gone without alcohol. I’ve never attempted dry January so possibly since I was pregnant, and my youngest is coming up 26!!! This weekend was also fraught with unexpected eating challenges. Youngest wanted a pre birthday shopping trip to Bluewater so I had to navigate lunch, turns out Five Guys will serve your burger in a lettuce wrap. It was delicious and I will definitely make that my go to order in future. Never eat all the bun anyway. And I’ve had to tell my eldest that pancake day won’t be a thing this year - she’s 28, yes I know 🤣 Also planning my treat meal for Wednesday, trying to work out how early I can crack open the bubbles, do you think I still need to wait 5 hours?? And then unfortunately I have a big weekend in the diary, a bottomless brunch Saturday and a wine tasting Sunday. I’m a little worried about undoing all the hard work, but all the literature seems to suggest it’s not ideal, but will be ok. Fortunately next week is a quiet one. So, end of phase 2 stats, down anywhere between 9 and 11 lbs (I had a lot to drink the night before I started, which often gives me a false low weight - dehydration I guess) And first check in of my starting measurements show 2 1/2 inches off my waist (thrilled with that) 1 inch off my hips and 1/2 inch off my thigh. Hang on in there. I am so bloody proud of myself that I have made it this far, and remain focused. Do you think we all could become one of those success stories we see on insta???

Ginthing · 12/02/2024 09:16

@Z0rr0 has the sleeping improved yet? That’s ok for me but 💩 could be better! Hoping the changes in P3 will get things moving!

Ginthing · 12/02/2024 09:28

@Mentaldays wow 9lbs in week 1 is amazing! Keep it going! Have you found the instagram group? If you search hbd or hbd gang you should see loads of posts. There is a ton of inspo on there for food ideas. Largely P3 but easily adapted by cutting out the EVOO. My favourites have been smoked salmon wrapped in a Nori Sheet with avocado and cucumber, so think riceless sushi. A bit fiddly to eat, and someone had presented it as a poke bowl this week, so I might try it that way next time. Also smoked mackerel whizzed up with Avo to make a “pate” served with lettuce and crudite is yum. I also make this with crab. For dinner a fave of mine has been chicken breast coated in curry powder cooked in a little stock. Last night I had this with cauliflower rice (a life saver for me) broccoli and mushrooms. Told my self it was a biriani 🤣 Don’t let boredom derail you!

Z0rr0 · 12/02/2024 13:51

My meals also been quite boring so need to think a bit more creatively. The Insta recipes are good, it's just whether I can be arsed.
@Ginthing OMG the constipation!! I literally went the first week without a poo. I figure because there's so little for the gut to process. I started taking magnesium that she recommends and also I had Fybogel chews one evening and morning to try to get things moving a bit. Not ideal as they're sweet but needs must and since then it's been ok touch wood.
The sleep improved a bit towards the end of last week and has been ok since. Not ideal but then it never is because of hot flushes.
You do sound like you've got a challenging week but I think we have to cut ourselves some slack because it is a very restrictive diet. Sometimes it's just not going to work and I think that's ok as long as it's not a slippery slope.
I lost two stone doing Noom but it took me over two years, so with this I feel like I got a really good head start, so I'm not overly stressing about having a splash of skimmed milk in my tea and coffee or sometimes having 150g of veg instead of 130, if I'm sticking to the other rules.
Your 26yo wanting pancakes made me laugh. I don't get the obsession with them. They're boring and such a hassle. Kids love them tho.
Anyway well done ladies. Sounds like we're all doing great!

Ali102 · 12/02/2024 16:26

Lost 11lbs in first two phases. Started phase 3 today. Can I have milk in tea and coffee?

Z0rr0 · 12/02/2024 18:33

@Ginthing Re: Valentine's dinner I'm looking forward to a glass of bubbles and maybe a gin. But honestly I'm a bit wary about eating a huge dinner, and after a fortnight with no oil, I'm not sure my guts will react well to a very fatty meal. So maybe not too much different to what I've already been eating. Perhaps a bit of fish in some sort of sauce, some veg stir fried instead of steamed and maybe some noodles just to push the boat out!

Hello just finding your thread and jumping on as I start HBD in the morning -I started a thread yesterday but no replies! I must get onto Instagram too for a bit of inspiration- how are you all getting on this week?

What is HBD please?

Z0rr0 · 12/02/2024 19:00

@cinnamonda As the name of the thread. Human Being Diet.

Ginthing · 12/02/2024 19:08

@cinnamonda Human Being diet

Ginthing · 12/02/2024 21:32

@Ali102 we’re on the same page! Also started P3 today. I think technically tea and coffee should still be black and with meals only. Although I guess if your protein has been dairy then you could have milk in your tea/coffee as part of that meal.

lemontova · 12/02/2024 21:56

Milk in tea / coffee is treat meal or phase 4 only x

Z0rr0 · 13/02/2024 00:33

I can't believe my body is so fine tuned it can determine a tablespoon of skimmed milk in my drinks alongside my meals, so I'm cheating on that one. Man I really miss my mid afternoon cup of tea tho.

Ginthing · 13/02/2024 09:02

Fortunately I don’t like milk. Takes me back to my school days 🤢 I drink very weak green tea, so hot water isn’t really that much of a leap and I’d already switched to black coffee during my IF days. Fruit, that’s my killer. I’m already seeing the I’ll just have 3 cherries after lunch creeping up to 5 and starting to become a habit. I’ve just made myself have eggs for breakfast to avoid the cherries.

LBMCR · 13/02/2024 12:39

I am starting P1 for the first time tomorrow. I think I’ve planned the first 5 days and got a food delivery coming tonight but I’m a bit scared! Had my last morning frothy coffee and lunch time bag of crisps for a while. I’m on a works do Friday and won’t be drinking. I think I can only have still water in P2 so they’re gonna hate me at the bar

Z0rr0 · 13/02/2024 13:41

Just printed out my tickets for the theatre tonight and apparently I paid upfront for a double GnT so looks like I'm breaking my alcohol fast a day early. Oops.

Ginthing · 13/02/2024 16:12

Hahaha @Z0rr0 oh well, shit happens! Enjoy, both the GnT and the show!

Ginthing · 13/02/2024 16:18

@LBMCR good luck! It’s honestly not too bad. You just have to stick with it. But the weight loss is very encouraging and helps to keep you focused. Are you doing the Epsom Salts shot tomorrow? If so hope you don’t have too many plans for the day!

Yes I am planning to do the Epsom salts! I’m working from home so should be ok

Lazydaiz · 13/02/2024 20:24

Hi - I’m on day 1 of phase 2 and feeling very sorry for myself. I’m feeling hungry all the time (even with drinking lots of water), but I also feel really bloated. Maybe it’s all the veggies in my system. Anyway I am feeling very demoralised. It’s the (milky) tea and coffee that I am missing soooo much. Am trying to persuade myself to stick it out until the weekend to see if I feel any more positive about it.

Ginthing · 13/02/2024 21:01

@Lazydaiz It does get better! After I had put my self through P1 and survived I was determined to have a go at P2. I really appreciated the inclusion of protein and the daily apple. Cherries and walnuts at breakfast also cheer me up! Hang on in there. You never know, it might just be the one that works! Good luck

Lazydaiz · 13/02/2024 22:10

Thanks @Ginthing. I’ll definitely persevere until the end of the week …… hopefully by then the hunger will have subsided, and maybe I will start to get a taste for black coffee!

LBMCR · 14/02/2024 11:38

Hang in there @Lazydaiz im only on P1 Day 1 today so easy for me to say I know

I did the Epsom salts and then had 2 portobello mushrooms, spinach cooked in water in a frying pan and half an avocado. Salt, pepper & chilli flakes on top. Accidentally did a squeeze of lime before thinking b4lls that’s fruit! Breakfast was nice, black coffee with no sweetener was not but hey ho. No effects of Epsom salts so far!

I was wondering, on P3 are you allowed things such as those bare naked noodles or keto breads? I think they are v low carb but not sure if allowed
