Is anyone else doing this? I started on Saturday (a little later than my planned 1st Jan start as I was skiing). So today I completed my first day of the 14 day phase 2.

I took the salts on Saturday but they didn't kick in until the evening so kids bedtime was fun.

I ate vegetables all weekend, drank black tea and coffee.

Today I have had:
B - Blueberries and Greek yogurt
L - Spicy mince with mushrooms, peppers and salad with ACV
D - 2 egg omelette with mushrooms and peppers and some cucumber and dessert was steamed apple sprinkled with cinnamon.

I have been sipping on fruit tea through the day (which I think is allowed).

I weighed in this morning and have lost 4 1/2 pounds so far - 148.8lbs starting weight and now am 144.5. So we will see how the weigh ins go...

Honestly I don't feel hungry, if I was to snack now it would be because of boredom rather than hunger which is why I'm planning to take myself to bed soon.

I'm really hoping to keep this up and complete all the phases but I would love to have a buddy? Is anyone else on the HBD wagon?

Definitely read the book before you start! In phase 3 you can have the odd glass of wine with dinner, and once a week you have a treat meal and eat / drink whatever you fancy, so you should be able to do all that on plan, no blips!

Ginthing · 01/02/2024 09:09

@Heybarbie1028 yes, unlimited veg 3 times a day. Aim for about 500g per meal - it’s a lot! Be careful of tomatoes, Aubergines, peppers, chilli etc. ie Nightshade vegetables. The book explains it. Cauliflower rice (Sainsbury’s) and veg curry were my saviours, along with avocado. And unlimited black tea, black coffee, green tea. Make the most of the tea and coffee, from day 3 it’s with meals only and I really miss my black coffee. Just starting P2 D4 so still a newbie

Z0rr0 · 02/02/2024 09:22

I've realised I'd totally forgotten about my daily apple, so I will be adding that in from today which will make dinner a bit more interesting.
I am finding having the cup of tea or coffee with meals really helpful to make me feel more full. But today is day three of Phase 2 for me and I'm generally not feeling starving.
I'm missing the snacking honestly. I heart crisps. But I've realised how much of my eating is habit based, just reaching for things to put in my mouth during a lull. I don't eat cake or dessert, maybe one biscuit or piece of chocolate, eat a couple of mints or Fruitellas when I'm driving, don't drink soft drinks (except light tonic in gin) so I don't really consider myself to have a sweet tooth, but honestly it's those sweet morsels I'm missing the most.
It makes a lot of sense to me to go hours between meals without snacking to get the digestive system working more effectively and bring the sugar responses back into check.
Went to a PR event last night and managed not to have a glass of bubbly or to pick at the pretzels and crisps on the tables. So that was a win.
But honestly the weight loss on this is insane. Not like anything I've ever tried before and there have been some where I lost a decent few pounds in the early days.
I got up this morning and thought 'I can't have lost more weight today' but I had and my tummy and back fat already feels smaller. I know she says it's mostly water but I am drinking 2.5 - 3 litres a day. After only 5 days I am 7lb / 3kg down. It's mad, but such a good boost to keep me on track.
So far so good. Hope you guys are managing ok.

Ginthing · 02/02/2024 16:09

@Z0rr0 thats great results! I’m on day 5 of Phase two and have lost 5lbs. I had a couple of days of no losses, so went back and checked the book. Seems I might not have been drinking enough water before lunch. Anyway I switched it up yesterday and dropped another lb this morning. It really does help to keep you on track! I eat a lot like you, sweet things don’t generally phase me. If I get a craving for something sweet a couple of squares of dark chocolate would do the trick, although if sweets/chocolates etc are visible then I will mindlessly eat them. I also don’t do soft drinks. It’s the non soft drinks that are the problem! And fruit. I love fruit! There is no way I would forget the daily apple. Highlight of my day! I slice it up and put it on a plate sprinkled with cinnamon. Makes a nice end to dinner. I am also really enjoying the post lunch and dinner coffee. I have to set an alarm so I don’t go over the hour! I’ve not been hungry at all, in fact often it’s a struggle fitting it all in. Especially breakfast, after following Intermittent fasting for quite a while and not ever really being a big fan of breakfast, I find that quite a struggle. After lunch today I did really fancy something sweet, so I had two frozen cherries, that I have had to hide in the garage freezer(!) and that really helped. Because of my problem with fruit craving I am trying to limit my fruit for now to just the apple, although if things get rough over the weekend I have told myself I can treat myself to the Cherry and Walnut breakfast as a weekend treat.
I am surprisingly focused on this plan, and over the years have given most diet plans a go. I have no idea what the difference is, maybe it’s the threat of having to either start P2 again, or just roll over and submit to watching the scales steadily creep up 3 or 4 lbs each year. And at 5 foot I simply cannot let that happen. Either way, long may it last. I have a treat meal planned for Valentines with a bottle of something lovely put away. Let’s hope I get there, or let’s hope a bit less of me gets there! Stay strong!
@DuckyLuck @Marti7 how are you both doing?

Marti7 · 02/02/2024 18:18

@Ginthing ok.
i had a pork loin steak grilled, savoy cabbage boiled in water, pealed and chopped my apple in to chunks and simmered it in boiling water (drained the water) had is as apple sauce. Only with using a Braeburn apple.
😉

Sounds faddy, like all the rest of them.

I saw the title and thought you it was going to be a joke about eating humans to lose weight

Ginthing · 02/02/2024 18:41

@Marti7 oh that sounds good. I had the burger from the book the other evening. My husband had the spare one in a bun with cheese and relish for
his lunch today. His looked better! He is making a curry tonight, so I have pan fried my “tiny” chicken breast in curry powder to match the flavour profile when we eat. Serving mine with Cauli rice. All my friends are talking about wine tonight 😭 I haven’t told anyone what I’m up to in case I fall off, but also because I’d really like to see their reaction if I stick with it. Using that as a motivator.

Z0rr0 · 03/02/2024 11:05

@Ginthing I'll let you into a secret. I weighed myself first thing in the morning and because it seemed so ridiculous I weighed myself again later in the day after breakfast having had my 1/2 litre + of water and I was only showing 5lb lost like you, so not really half a stone. Although the scales did say the same again this morning at 7lb lost.
I have not really eaten breakfast for a long time, most days not eating until lunch time so two eggs for breakfast seems huge, but actually now I am often hungry in the morning so it's been quite easy to make that change and it really helps me to avoid snacking by not feeling hungry.
What does it say about drinking water before lunch? I'll have to check it out.
Normally I would drink a couple of small glasses of wine and a gin Friday, Saturday and probably a gin or two Sunday but I didn't miss it loads last night, so fingers crossed.
We're off to the cinema later and usually I would have a tea or coffee but realise I can't buy anything to drink, just take water with me.
Like you, I am also pretty focused and following the rules, give or take 10g +/- on the veggies. It's been a long time since I tried a more extreme diet regime. Noom did work for me and they seem to have borrowed some of their guidelines from HBD, but it was so slow and eventually tedious making so little progress whilst being so restrictive that I did gradually drop off.
It's funny because the rules are really straightforward but when I talk about them to my OH they sound really complex.
But anyway, so far so good. I know the big weight loss isn't real so soon in the process but it does give you a really good boost. Officially Valentine's night should be my last restricted meal but like you I think I'm going to make it a (light) treat night and have something a bit more interesting and a glass of wine. (The problem is once I've had one I'll want a gin as well!)
The only downside so far is I'm not sleeping well. But I'm not sure that's related to the diet.
Anyway, keep the faith! Let's do this!

Ginthing · 03/02/2024 11:29

@Z0rr0 we seem to be following a very similar path! Am also a little flex on the veggie weight. Also struggling to sleep. Was awake for hours in the middle of the night last night 🙄 Have reintroduced Magnesium supplements with breakfast. Hoping that helps. Re the water. In the book it states having 1/2 a litre (half a pint?) before breakfast and then another 1 1/2 litres before lunch. I definitely wasn’t doing that. I was speed drinking all the water from about 4 when I realised I was wildly behind. Have dropped another lb today. Don’t know if it’s water related or just my body giving in. Either way I’m delighted as it was a critical pound that put me into a new stone! We’ve got through Friday night, am hoping Saturday will be a breeze!

Marti7 · 03/02/2024 12:19

@Ginthing and @Z0rr0 well done.
i have no clue if I’ve lost weight. My husband weighed me before I started. I used to have a very unhealthy obsession with weighing and managed to stop it a few years ago. I was around 11st 7lbs for quite a while, gave up alcohol, and food wise I just started being disciplined with my food (similar to HBD if I think about it). Several things have happened the last year and I spiralled with food and wine. The weight piled on. No idea what I weighed as I couldn’t bring myself to know. Anyhow, I’m working through this and hoping it’ll come off and stay off. I can see my tummy isn’t as bloated but I’m not ready to know my weight or the loss yet.
I hope you both have a beautiful weekend ☺️

Z0rr0 · 03/02/2024 12:22

@Ginthing Woot! Love crossing stone thresholds. Feels more significant than just losing another pound. Good stuff. I have been drinking the water first thing before breakfast, because normally I would have tea then but have to wait to drink the tea with the meal. But although I continue to drink throughout the morning, I wasn't specifically drinking another 1/2 litre before lunch. Will maybe see if I can have a glass before lunch then. It does help with feeling more full.

coldcallerbaiter · 02/02/2024 18:21

I saw the title and thought you it was going to be a joke about eating humans to lose weight

Be better in protein.

Z0rr0 · 03/02/2024 23:12

Having been quite upbeat this morning I really struggled today. Walked into town and found it hard going, back ached, headache, got really hungry. Tonight I really want a gin!
But I'm holding fast. Tomorrow's another day.

Mentaldays · 05/02/2024 16:58

Hey everyone, I’m on day 1 phase 2 and I left my book in work.
Can anyone remind me quantities please.
Breakfast 2 eggs and 100g veg
Lunch/dinner 130g protein and ???? Veg?

Thank you

Z0rr0 · 05/02/2024 21:31

Sorry I didn't see this earlier @Mentaldays. For most proteins the veg amount is the same. 130g. Some of the proteins like cheese and smoked salmon are less. I took pics of the pages so I didn't have to keep lugging the book around.

Z0rr0 · 05/02/2024 21:36

I'm on day 8 of 16 so officially half way through. Managed not to drink over the weekend. Have stuck to the no sugar, no oil, no grain and I think the sugar cravings are reducing. Just waiting for this better sleep and boundless energy thing to kick in because I've had like 5 or 6 nights of horrible sleep now and it's killing me. Had to have a nanna nap today!

Mentaldays · 05/02/2024 22:36

@Z0rr0 thank you. I will take photos too, good idea

DuckyLuck · 06/02/2024 09:01

Morning everyone - not been a great weekend, I'll confess. Broke and had a bag of crisps (my addiction) and a glass of wine. But then drew a line ...(as my old SW teacher would say). I know the book says if you fail you have to start again, but I've chosen not to and will carry on where I was.

So, I'm on Day 9 of 16 and had yoghurt and mango for breakfast today. I'm still a bit confused as how / when I can have fruit so sticking with this just for breakfast, then having my apple after supper.

Not feeling as hungry as I did which I think is a good sign but making me think I'm not losing as quickly now. I'm at that age where a good night's sleep has more or less abandoned me but it does feel a bit worse this past week.

Because I weigh over 176lbs currently, I'm having 140g of protein/veg for lunch and supper - is that right?

I was feeling like I'm becoming obsessed with food/meal planning etc as it does take a lot of thinking about, I'm trying to just think of it as a lifestyle change and have stopped weighing myself every day, from yesterday. But yesterday, I'd lost 8lbs in total. Another 28 or so to go.

DuckyLuck · 06/02/2024 09:03

Also, got a bit of a trying week as it's my Mum's 80th birthday - so out to lunch on Thursday, then son back from Uni on Friday night, party on Saturday night... need to be strong!

Z0rr0 · 06/02/2024 09:46

I don't know what your lbs are in kilos @DuckyLuck. She says if you weigh up to 75kg use the printed weights, up to 100kg add 10g more veg and protein and over 100kg add 20g of both.
Although I'm mostly sticking to the protein weights I'm playing a bit fast and loose with the veg weights (not by loads) because 10g is nothing and I'm used to eating a lot more veg.
I think don't beat yourself up and like you said just pick up and keep going. I wouldn't go back to the start again either.
You've done great overall and the weight loss is fantastic!
I'm also a crisp addict and I've been thinking about if and when I'll be able to add them in. Maybe not every day as I used to do and not just as a snack but maybe with a cheese salad or something.
I think you have to use a bit of common sense. Even adding in oil and a treat meal this is an incredibly restrictive diet to stick to for 10 weeks.
I think I probably won't be as strict as she says and might be a bit more relaxed and see how it goes.
But I will make some changes so that even if I'm not strictly sticking to the protein / veg only thing, I will still try not to snack and to keep the gap between meals and to try to limit my alcohol (on drinking days) to earlier in the evening.
See how that goes.
I really miss my afternoon cup of tea.
On the plus side I finally had a slightly better night. It's just when I wake (I'm menopausal so sleep is also rocky esp with hot flushes) my mind is just so busy that it's really hard to get back to sleep. Or it's like racing thoughts sleep where I have been asleep but feel as if I haven't. Anyway. Keep going. I'm over half way through now.
Fruit only with yoghurt for breakfast I think.

DuckyLuck · 06/02/2024 09:54

Thanks @Z0rr0 - I weigh more than 70kg and less than 100kg - think 140g is right. Like you say, I play a bit fast and loose with the veg but am good a sticking to protein weights.

I totally agree, I'll probably be a bit more slack but actually compared to what I was eating and what's caused me to pile on the pounds, I'm doing very well! My crisps addiction is being tackled although I, like you, am already thinking about when I can have some!

I'm still not having great nights (not helped by dogs waking me at 4am) but I've realised that I used to use wine to get me to sleep! Now, I'm better a sleeping through a bit and but worse at getting to sleep. I'm also menopausal and suffer from really achy arms in the night :( - it's a horrid thing.

Good thing here is that it's mostly just me and my partner at home, and he's doing it with me. I work from home so it's easy to faff around with food.

Off to get me some water .... that's the thing I'm not great at.

Ginthing · 06/02/2024 17:21

Hi @Z0rr0 and @DuckyLuck sounds like you’re both doing great. I’m still on track and managed to hold it together over the weekend. Only one more weekend to get through!! I’ve been a bit confused by the 80kg weight threshold to extra 10grams of protein/veg ratio as I have crossed over during this period but didn’t scale down my meals. Also think I’ve been doing the stone to kg conversion wrong on my app. So I’ve been merrily having my larger portions, also sometimes a bit fast and loose with the measures, but who really wants to leave 10g of prawns sitting in a box? I have absolutely no intention of starting P2 again. That way would lead to utter disaster! There was a post in the Instagram group recently about not being 100% perfect. Can’t remember exactly what it said now, but I’m rolling with it! So today I am dropping my portions and hoping for some more weight loss, turns out my slower losses may have been less about water and more about food portions. But I’ve still lost 7lbs to date, which is unheard of. And it has been reasonably painless, apart from the longggg alcohol free weekends.
There was a post on the instagram group recently about not being 100% perfect. Day 9 for me. Next Monday I can swing into Phase 3.

Ginthing · 06/02/2024 17:25

@DuckyLuck @Z0rr0 I have gone back on to Magnesium supplements. I stopped initially and had a terrible time sleeping. Also used to use wine to knock me out! Had a few nights at the beginning of either barely any sleep or really vivid and stressful dreams. The magnesium seems to be helping. I fall asleep and stay asleep, apart from when I need to wee! Also Menopausal

Z0rr0 · 07/02/2024 00:22

Thanks @Ginthing I meant to try the magnesium but keep forgetting to take it. Will keep an eye on the food weights and see as it's easy to let them creep up. Sticking with it is at least getting easier. And same with the 10g of prawns. I had that tonight and also ate the 150g. They're low calorie after all. I had cheese salad for lunch and honestly 80g of cheese is an insane amount! I didn't have all that.
Swings and roundabouts innit.
I need to find a nice way to cook tofu so I'm not relying on fish and pulses all the time. (We don't eat meat.) I tried to find some hbd tofu recipes on Insta but came up short. If you spot any, let me know!

DuckyLuck · 07/02/2024 15:39

Thanks - I'd forgotten I'd bought some Magnesium for that very purpose (along with many other pills and potions hoping for a miracle cure to menopause and all its joys).

I'm confused today as the cookbook says we can have cheese in Phase 2, but the book says it's a No....

Had warm lentil salad last night - just about can cope with the texture, tonight I have chicken and cauliflower rice. Still hungry and sadly have gained a lb this morning. Really need to stick to my promise not to weigh!
