Is anyone else doing this? I started on Saturday (a little later than my planned 1st Jan start as I was skiing). So today I completed my first day of the 14 day phase 2.

I took the salts on Saturday but they didn't kick in until the evening so kids bedtime was fun.

I ate vegetables all weekend, drank black tea and coffee.

Today I have had:
B - Blueberries and Greek yogurt
L - Spicy mince with mushrooms, peppers and salad with ACV
D - 2 egg omelette with mushrooms and peppers and some cucumber and dessert was steamed apple sprinkled with cinnamon.

I have been sipping on fruit tea through the day (which I think is allowed).

I weighed in this morning and have lost 4 1/2 pounds so far - 148.8lbs starting weight and now am 144.5. So we will see how the weigh ins go...

Honestly I don't feel hungry, if I was to snack now it would be because of boredom rather than hunger which is why I'm planning to take myself to bed soon.

I'm really hoping to keep this up and complete all the phases but I would love to have a buddy? Is anyone else on the HBD wagon?

Hey everyone, I’m P2 D4. I felt really hungry between meals over the weekend and really tired but better today when in work. Im quite proud of myself as cooked for the family and stuck to my diet, didn’t miss wine or crisps too much. I keep asking myself if I can see myself eating this way forever and not convinced but I have lost 4 lb in 6 days which is encouraging.

I had cheese salad for dinner and yog & fruit for brekkie and not noticed any issues after dairy

Katrinawaves · 19/02/2024 20:56

I’ve just finished week 10 of Phase 3 and have lost about 2 stone and dropped 2 dress sizes since I started. I’d like to lose another stone if I can although I am now in the normal BMI range and a size 10 at 5’7” so I may revisit my original target. (My waist height ratio is still off and I’m at the top of the normal BMI range hence thinking I should carry on a bit longer.

@Ginthing i had a bad week last week as we were away for the weekend and then had Valentine’s Day and another meal out the same week. I ended up putting on 3lb over the week (Saturday is my weigh in day) and 2 of those 4 had gone again by this morning. So don’t worry too much about those 4lb as I’m sure they will go as quickly as they came.

Today I had

  • smoothie and black coffee for breakfast
  • smoked salmon, salad and rye bread for lunch with an apple and black coffee
  • pork stroganoff and kale for tea (technically a cheat as it mixed creme fraiche with pork so two proteins but it should be fine

i never ever thought I would drink black coffee. Have always hated it in the past but now I can’t imagine going back to coffee with milk. I’ve had a couple of cups of tea with milk over the last few months but generally steer clear.

Good luck to those starting off on the journey. I feel miles better and am enjoying wearing a whole new wardrobe only a few months after starting this way of eating.

Mentaldays · 19/02/2024 23:09

I’m starting phase 3 today! I have lost 12lbs so far so that’s a great motivator. I have a lot to lose, so hopefully I get steady losses of 2-3lbs a week 🤞🏼
I’ve had eggs every day for breakfast so far and very excited to have yoghurt and blueberries tomorrow. No eggs for a while can’t stand the sight of them!
Had my treat meal yesterday and I felt awful after eating it, struggled to sleep and just felt too full, need to eat less next time!
Good luck everyone.

Z0rr0 · 21/02/2024 12:07

I also felt too full after my first treat meal @Mentaldays even though I ate about half of what my OH served up. But it's good to know that our stomachs really have shrunk.
My weight loss stalled for a bit following the start of P3 and having a glass of wine and a gin each day over the weekend, but I lost another lb today, so have lost everything I gained from last summer.
One more lb and I'm a stone down.
I would really like to lose 4lb in the next fortnight if possible. That will tip me over the next stone threshold which is always nice. Also there's a bit of a family get together that weekend and it will be the first time several of them have seen me since early Jan before I started HBD and I am hoping they will notice the difference and that will spur me on to keep going.
Hope that doesn't sound too shallow!
Keep going ladies. Maybe this time we can finally shed that weight and get back to the weights we've dreamed of.

Lazydaiz · 24/02/2024 20:31

Hi - just wondering how everyone is getting on. I’m now on P2 D12. I have found it easier than expected, but have not lost any weight since last Saturday which is really demoralising. I’m eating so much less than I was before starting on the plan so just don’t understand what I’m doing wrong. Feeling as though once I add in the olive oil next week I’m probably going to put back on the few pounds I lost in the first week. Hope you are all doing better than me!!

Katrinawaves · 24/02/2024 23:22

My weight loss slowed a bit at the end of Phase 2 too but it did pick up when I started Phase 3 and I lost a pretty steady 2lbs a week. I started on 22 November with a BMI of 27.9 and as of today I have lost 1 stone 12 pounds and my BMI is 23.8.

Trust the plan and have the olive oil and the weekly treat meal. It makes things so much more enjoyable and easy to stick too. I’ve managed to navigate Christmas, a long weekend away, family birthdays and Valentines Day without feeling deprived by scheduling my treat meals carefully and have dropped 2 dress sizes and about 8 inches off my waist measurement so I am an advocate!

Mentaldays · 25/02/2024 09:35

Ive been on it 3 weeks and I’ve lost my first stone. I’m really pleased with the results. I’m struggling to add the EVOO to meals as I’ve never really cooked with oil.
This week I just lost 2lbs but delighted with the results overall. If I continue with 2lb loss a week I’ll be pleased. I find it pretty easy to stick too and actually feel a little unwell after treat meal with wine. Think next week I’ll drop having wine, although I do love a few glasses!

Sunshineandrainbow · 25/02/2024 09:45

Sounds like this is a Sensible plan.
Having been obese all my adult life I am always reluctant to start something new but at 18 stone and a binge eater I need to at least try.

Have you all bought the book?

How do you find the two days of vegetables? Any tips?

Thankyou

Ginthing · 25/02/2024 10:57

@Sunshineandrainbow i would definitely buy the book. But make sure it’s the 2nd edition. It’s a good tool to refer back to if you loose your way. There is also a very active Instagram group. Most members attach hbd somewhere as part of their name to make them easy to find. The vegetable days were rough. But it was only two days. Avocados for me were a god send. And a big vat of soup for lunch and curry for dinner with cauliflower rice helped somewhat. However it kept me focused, because like you I have a lot to loose and I absolutely did not want to go back and repeat with phase 1 or 2! Good luck. Take your measurements as well. It does help if the scales stall.

Ginthing · 25/02/2024 11:08

@Lazydaiz hang in there. You’re nearly over the worst. some people carry on with strict phase 3, which is pretty much just phase 2 with the EVOO. Did you take your measurements as well? Have you checked these. My scale weight loss wasn’t nearly as dramatic as some (or I’d hoped!) but I did drop 2 inches from my waist by the end of P2, so that helped keep me focused. Since P3 I have gained a couple of lbs, but I have had a couple of very social weekends. I know what’s gone wrong, but if this is going to be a life style change for me, I need to accept that sometimes life will make the plan a little harder to stick to. To be honest if my only gain is a couple of lbs I’m quite happy with that. I’m still about 1/2 a stone under my starting point and the lowest weight I’ve been for a long time. At long last the general trend seems to be downwards and not upwards.

Katrinawaves · 25/02/2024 12:31

@Sunshineandrainbow i have the first edition of the book but apparently the second edition is easier to follow. Some bits of the first edition are a bit confusing. I actually found the recipe book easier as an everyday reference point because it has lists for each phase of the permitted foods and the quantities allowed. And everyone on Instagram is great at answering questions or posting recipe ideas too.

By the end of Phase 1 I was sick to the sight of vegetables 😂. To be fair I had made a couple of really vile concoctions - a butternut squash soup where the onions and garlic were really bitter and made it inedible and a very unappealing veg curry. I had to just power through in the end with salads and as someone has said already avocados saved the day. At least it was only 2 days and my poached eggs on Day 1 of Phase 2 tasted amazing!

BlackKity · 25/02/2024 20:00

So @Katrinawaves if you get the recipe book instead - will you miss all the “theory”? Or is the theory obvious or unnecessarily complex!?

In an ideal world you would have both books. The recipe book doesn’t have any of the theory in it. I just didn’t get much out of that section of the main book and never go back to it!

Thanks

Z0rr0 · 27/02/2024 23:09

I'm struggling a bit so far with my P3. Been a couple of weeks now. I lost a couple of pounds last week and then gained them back at the weekend with my treat meal and some wine. Hoping to be back down tomorrow and maybe lose another pound if I really stick with it. But I've had a couple of lapses where I couldn't resist a handful of crisps. And this evening I was so hungry before I made my food that I ate about 15 fries done in the air fryer (my kid's leftovers).
Holding onto the fact that I did so well in P2 and hoping that as the P3 routine continues I will keep losing gradually.
Also I need to factor in some more regular exercise because I'm not doing very well on that front at the moment.
Sticking with it tho because I have hope.

ItsNotEasyBeingGreens · 27/02/2024 23:43

I’m on D1 P1 and ugh. Eating a disgustingly watery butternut squash concoction. Wondering if this is to brutal for me!

I keep reading a lot about P3 weight loss stalls @Z0rr0 - apparently you just have to stick with it. Even though I’m having trouble sticking to day one!

Z0rr0 · 28/02/2024 09:59

@ItsNotEasyBeingGreens I made the soup she recommended in the first edition and forced myself to eat it but it was awful and I'm not sure I'll ever eat the stuff that was left over and I froze. The recipe from edition 2 sounds a bit better. Spicy squash and pumpkin. Not the spinach and courgette thing I made. Maybe it was kale. Anyway it wasn't good.
The only plus side was you can eat so much of it that I didn't feel hungry at all those first two days and then was thrilled to have eggs for breakfast on day 3.
I am relieved to have lost the two pounds I put back on over the weekend. Now I just need to lose one more to feel like I am still heading in the right direction.
I checked when I started and it was 29th Jan, so just over four weeks in, so I am reminding myself that to lose a stone in that short space of time is really good.
Hang in there @ItsNotEasyBeingGreens. Force yourself through these two days and the scales on Friday will motivate you.

Ginthing · 28/02/2024 10:06

@Z0rr0 hi! Been wondering how you were doing. I think we’re only a couple of days apart in the process. I totally hear you. The added freedom to P3 has sent me careening off course. A treat meal you say? Oh hell
lets have a treat day, or maybe a treat weekend. I was soooo strict over P1 and 2 for fear of having to restart either phase. My attitude is much more relaxed now, to my detriment! I have also fully embraced “it is illegal to exercise!” I do a couple of classes that I enjoy but I really think that walking seems to be key, and my step count is appalling! Something I also know I need to work on.
Started P3 12/2 and had three terrible but pre planned days that week, ended up regaining 4lb 😭. Last week, eldest daughter came home unexpectedly for a couple of days, wheels came off again. But managed to maintain. This weekend, youngests birthday, will be a car crash again. Next week I’m in Italy, I guess at least I’ll keep the EVOO going easily! Week after weekend away, then husbands 60th. Have been beating myself up that I can’t get a clear run to focus on this. BUT am also trying to navigate that if this is to be a lifestyle thing, it’s gonna have to fit around my lifestyle! And the above pretty much is my lifestyle. On the days where I can I am mainly doing strict P3, with the addition of berries and Greek yogurt at breakfast, oh, and some dark chocolate after lunch, maybe that needs to stop. Although I did have one glass of wine last night with dinner. Mainly because I really fancied one but also to see if I could just stick to the one. I did! And to be honest, turned out all I really wanted was a taste, could have chucked the rest after a sip or two - I didn’t! Anyway this morning I am now back to my starting weight at P3, which was only ever 10lbs down anyway, not much considering how much I have to loose. BUT, I am on a general downward trend and somehow maintaining at this new lower weight. Previously I would have been gaining, so, I am going to take it as a win. Keep going when real life permits and hope that over time, I’ll gradually loose the odd lb or two. Unless I halt my social
life, which I’m not prepared to do, I have to accept that this is going to be a long and slow process. Personally I still find this easier than anything else I’ve done in the past. And the evidence from all the success stories keeps me on track. I want to look like that. Did you see last nights live? They were both glowing. I’m sticking with it because quite frankly at this stage, I’ve tried everything else and run out of viable options. Hang in there with me!

Ginthing · 28/02/2024 10:16

@ItsNotEasyBeingGreens congratulations! You’re now on the final day of P1. That protein tomorrow will be a welcome relief! But the portion sizes will shock you! Eat as much as you can today, while you can, and while you don’t have to be faffing around with weighing out food! Avocado in salad was my saviour! In fact it still is.
Have you also taken your measurements? I did, I don’t usually bother, but my weight loss at the end of P2 wasn’t as much as some and I was a little disappointed. But the tape measure showed a loss of 2.5inchs from my waist and that alone is helping to keep me focused now. I don’t want those bad boys back. You’ve got this.

Katrinawaves · 28/02/2024 12:29

@Ginthing I’ve navigated Christmas, a couple of long weekends away, some business travel and birthdays on the diet and the trend has been largely downwards. My top tips are to use the treat meal when you know you have an event coming up - eg the husband’s birthday dinner but try it you can to stay on course for the rest of the week.

For holidays and travel, I checked the hotels breakfast menu in advance so already knew when I went down for breakfast that I would be having eg some cold meat and melon, or scrambled eggs with mushrooms and black coffee. That stopped me being tempted by anything else on offer in the moment. Lunches were relatively easy to stay on course with - most places will do a bowl of soup or a salad. I let myself have free rein for evening meals but always looked to see if there was a HBD friendly option on the menu. If there was, I would opt for it but if not I tried to make sure I only ate until I felt satisfied and avoided desserts. As meals out and hotels are generally lovely anyway once I got used to putting these guardrails in place for myself I was able to enjoy what I was having in its own right and as a treat without feeling I was depriving myself

Hi all. Loved reading these comments as I’m on phase 2 day 1 and I’m in a foul mood. Found it tough today. I’m going in with a relaxed approach. I’ll do Monday to Friday phase 2 for a couple of weeks but I’m going to enjoy my weekends if something planned. My weight loss might be much slower but hopefully will help eating so carefully during the week. Not sleeping at all well though. i had been intermittent fasting and lost 9lb but then plateaued. I would like to lose another 6lb so giving it a go. I don’t think my husband likes me in this mood though. Think I’ll go to bed!!

Yes, that’s the soup! I threw it away today as couldn’t face another mouthful (and I’m not that fussy!)

Trying to squeak through the second day soup free as best as I can!

Thank you! I did take my measurements yesterday, which I’m quite surprised with myself about as usually I’m too lazy to do that on my previous (failed!) diets.

I’m a bit worried about how I’m going to do as I’m not really a good cook and I know I’m going to have to weigh everything etc. Stupid question, but if you have salad with your protein, isn’t it an absolutely massive pile to get to the weight?

Sorry I sounded a bit negative. Finding it very hard compared to IF but I guess if I hadn’t plateaued I wouldn’t be trying HBD
