Is anyone else doing this? I started on Saturday (a little later than my planned 1st Jan start as I was skiing). So today I completed my first day of the 14 day phase 2.

I took the salts on Saturday but they didn't kick in until the evening so kids bedtime was fun.

I ate vegetables all weekend, drank black tea and coffee.

Today I have had:
B - Blueberries and Greek yogurt
L - Spicy mince with mushrooms, peppers and salad with ACV
D - 2 egg omelette with mushrooms and peppers and some cucumber and dessert was steamed apple sprinkled with cinnamon.

I have been sipping on fruit tea through the day (which I think is allowed).

I weighed in this morning and have lost 4 1/2 pounds so far - 148.8lbs starting weight and now am 144.5. So we will see how the weigh ins go...

Honestly I don't feel hungry, if I was to snack now it would be because of boredom rather than hunger which is why I'm planning to take myself to bed soon.

I'm really hoping to keep this up and complete all the phases but I would love to have a buddy? Is anyone else on the HBD wagon?

I thought this was about cannibalism!

Me too. I suppose it’s low carb.

Marti7 · 25/01/2024 08:16

Hi, I have found it ok. I would not have plans for the first few days, particularly phase 1 as you’ll wish to be close to a bathroom. The cookbook is helpful to get inspiration for meals when in phase 2 (&3).
Unfortunately there isn’t a Facebook group and it’s not permitted for one to be created either. There are people doing the HBD who have these letters in their Instagram name so you can follow them and it’s a way to share ideas etc. Also follow Petronella herself as she does lives once a week on a Tuesday evening. If you look on her instagram page and see who’s commented on her posts that’s a starting point for finding other HBD’ers you can follow.
Would love to hear how you get on and feel free to message. I’m a bit confused about phase 2 and yoghurt as the cookbook has it as an allowable food but in it days no to having it (dairy) during phase 2 in the literature a few pages before 🧐

Ginthing · 25/01/2024 08:50

Hi, unfortunately there is a delay in the cookbook being sent out. I received the other book yesterday, so I’ll be going in a bit blind. In P1 is it correct that I can have chicken broth (clear liquid form) as a base to veggie soups? It sounds so strict, I’d hate to put myself through that but not be doing it correctly!

Marti7 · 25/01/2024 12:51

Hi oh, I can’t get the second edition book it seems to be sold out on Amazon. For phase 1 day one and two I had the spicy butternut squash soup for my lunch and dinner it makes quite a large batch. It’s meant to serve four. It has 900 mL of vegetable stock. My husband bought me the cans of vegetable stock from Waitrose, I’ll try and tag a photo of the recipe for you. It was really lovely.. You could swap around perhaps with the different spices?

Hope it’s ok to provide a photo of a recipe? I’ll take it down if I can if it’s not allowed.

Ginthing · 25/01/2024 16:30

@Marti7 thats great. Thank you. I’m keen to get going on Saturday, before I change my
mind! I think I need to read a bit more of the book. I did get the 2nd edition through Amazon Prime just this week. It’s the cookbook that is the issue.

DuckyLuck · 30/01/2024 14:36

Hi @Ginthing - did you start yet? I'm on Day 2 (so started on Monday 29th) and it's been hard but I'm really looking forward to introducing protein tomorrow, along with a bit of fruit and some nuts.

I got the book, then got a Kindle version of the cookbook which has mostly all the same information and recipes too.

DuckyLuck · 30/01/2024 14:37

How's it going @Marti7 ?

Marti7 · 30/01/2024 14:57

@DuckyLuck and @Ginthing I can definitely recommend the prawn and guacamole salad wrap. Really tasty

Ginthing · 30/01/2024 19:35

Hi @DuckyLuck yes, I started on Saturday so am P2D2. Yesterday was great. I loved that I could add in the protein, and the apple! although I found the weighing of the veg restrictive! I have been really hungry all day today. And cold! Thankfully my cookbook is arriving tomorrow so hoping to switch things up a bit. Have you found the hbd resources on Instagram? There is lots of advice there. Good luck. Enjoy tomorrow. Let us know how you’re getting on

Ginthing · 30/01/2024 19:37

@Marti7 thanks for the heads up. Cookbook arriving tomorrow so hopefully will give me more structure in these early days. How are you doing?

Marti7 · 30/01/2024 20:11

@DuckyLuck and @Ginthing hi, all ok, I have been a bit hungry but drinking lots of water. I made the burgers tonight on mushrooms and they were lovely. It’s something so simple to make that I wouldn’t have thought of. Hope you are both doing ok

Z0rr0 · 30/01/2024 22:43

I've just finished the second day of all veg and if I never have that soup again it will be too soon.
Looking forward to 14 days of protein and veg x3 which sounds like quite a bit more than I usually eat. So far even though I don't have a sweet tooth the hardest thing for me has been the no sugar. Just habit really but I'm missing the mint I eat when driving or walking and the square of chocolate after dinner.
Not looking forward to not drinking at the weekend.
Other half has just pointed out that Day 14 will be Valentines Day. We don't go out but he would normally cook something nice. I"m wondering if it just about works if my final meal on Day 14 includes some of the stuff I'll have hopefully avoided until then.
Only two tiny cheats. I didn't do the Salts as didn't fancy the purge and I am having a tiny splash of skimmed milk in my tea and coffee.
But so far so good. Looking forward to meals again from tomorrow.

Butterflyface2023 · 30/01/2024 22:53

I bought the book but I’m confused if Greek yoghurt is allowed in phase 2. Because it’s mentioned in some of the recipes, but then dairy is a no.

Z0rr0 · 31/01/2024 00:25

I also think the book is quite confusing. She's fence sitting on some of the 'rules' when I think most dieters just want to be told what to do.
Full fat yoghurt is allowed in Phase 2 but also she says to consider avoiding it, so it's up to you I guess what works best. I'm on my first day of Phase 2 tomorrow and haven't decided if I'm going yoghurt and plum or eggs and something.

lemontova · 31/01/2024 01:35

Hi see with the dairy - that’s not fence sitting. If it’s the first time you do HBD you should avoid nightshades and dairy completely for the first 16 days, treating it as an elimination diet. Then on phase 3 you gradually reintroduce the things that may caused inflammation and see how you manage. Eg I am totally great with all dairy but am bloated by chickpeas and sweet potatoes. Sometimes I eat them anyway though but not when planning an outing x

lemontova · 31/01/2024 01:37

So @z0rr0 unless you know dairy causes you no issues, leave the yoghurt and have a mushroom omelette instead x

Z0rr0 · 31/01/2024 07:51

But on one page she says 'try yoghurt and berries' and the next page she's going on about avoiding dairy, and a page later includes yoghurt in the list of things you can eat.
I find it a bit annoying. Just tell me what to do!
Like, I will really miss my glass of wine and GnT at the weekend so would like to drink Aqua Libra (which is fizzy water with cucumber and mint flavour) instead of just plain water but she says she used to say fizzy water was no different to plain water, but now, (following some research) 'I'm not so sure'. Well that's no good to me. Either rule it out or say it's ok!
But anyway. I'm having poached eggs with mushrooms and spinach. Realised I will have to experiment with cooking eggs in a pan if I cant use oil.

Z0rr0 · 31/01/2024 07:52

On the plus side I apparently lost 4lb.

Ginthing · 31/01/2024 09:04

@Z0rr0 I feel your pain with the confusion. There are mixed messages for sure. I think with the water, she has done further research, or further research has been done, hence the 2nd edition book. I’m avoiding the fizzy water. Re the yogurt, I bought the cherries and seeds and walnuts yesterday for “emergencies”. I’m not an early riser, or a breakfast eater and I’m finding that quite a struggle. I will try and avoid the cherry breakfast but know that it’s there “for a treat” if I start to think about falling off. I will also break and have yogurt if it means the difference between me staying on track or completely blowing it. Re cherries, someone with more experience recommend the dark frozen cherries from Sainsbury’s on their instagram, so off I duly went.
Just starting Phase 2 Day 3. 3lbs down

Ginthing · 31/01/2024 09:08

@Z0rr0 also sadly even the Aqua Libra wouldn’t work, because the flavourings, particularly the mint, would break your fast. That’s why there is no flavoured/fruit teas permitted. I started on Saturday in the hope that enthusiasm would soften the blown of no wine/gin. This weekend may be a struggle!

DuckyLuck · 31/01/2024 12:23

Ooo @Z0rr0 - we're on the same day - Day One, Phase Two - felt like a luxury to have eggs this morning!

I don't have an issue with dairy and my version of the book says I can opt for yoghurt and cheese if I want to, but that she hopes I might try to go dairy free :) - but I'm not going to. I'm also drinking sparkling water with lemon.

My biggest challenge will be wine I think, this weekend but I'm picturing how great it will feel to fit back into my jeans ...

Lunch I've got chicken salad, and for tea I'm going to make spicy rice, then have my apple for pudding.

I did have the salts, and have cheated by adding a splash of milk to my morning cup of tea but that is all. Today (Day 3 overall) I'm down 5lbs - around another 25lbs to go!

Z0rr0 · 31/01/2024 15:15

Wow, 5lbs is a great boost to make the veg days worth it.
I basically inhaled my eggs this morning!
Seems so weird to have so much protein and so little veg.
Lunch was pretty much a whole can of tuna when normally I'd eat less than half, but only a couple of Chinese leaves, a slice of tomato and a couple of radishes and actually that took me slightly over the allowed grams.
For the past two years (until I went off the rails a few months ago) I've been basically living off soup for lunch and salad for dinner like 90% of the time, basically following Noom. And it did work, albeit incredibly slowly. But my salads would be like three times the amount of veg than I just ate.
But then I gained a bit in summer and I lost my gym momentum and my oldest went to uni so I think there's been a degree of comfort eating, and I basically put a stone back on since last June. Which is a bummer.
So I'm hoping this will help me lose that and basically the other additional stone I need to lose on top of that.
It makes sense because of her saying the veggies are carbs and I've avoided traditional carbs most of the time for years because poly cystic ovaries seem to make carbs stick to your tummy. But I couldn't understand why when my Fitbit was saying (when I was more active) that I was burning more than 1000 calories than I was consuming (measured via MFP or Noom), that I just wasn't losing weight. It was soul destroying honestly to work so hard for so little gain. So keeping everything crossed for this because otherwise I just don't know!
I think I have the first edition of the book (bought on Vinted because new it costs a blimmin fortune!) so maybe the newer one is more proscriptive.
I was going to drink the Aqua Libra with dinner. I think that fits the rules. I know when you're past the first 16 days you're allowed a glass of wine with dinner.

Heybarbie1028 · 31/01/2024 23:24

Hi all! I am really interested in starting this diet. I’ve just bought the second edition of the book on my kindle. Does that explain everything in further detail?

So for 2 days do you literally just eat vegetables in an unlimited quantity?

LBMCR · 01/02/2024 00:03

I received my book today and been reading about the diet. We’re going away at half term so im going to do my research and start when I get back mid Feb. I’m mid 40s, peri menopausal and struggling to lose weight with what’s always worked for me. Although I know the first 16 days will be hard, I think I can make it through as there will be an end in sight. I’m more concerned about the 10 weeks in phase 3! Is it no alcohol? I do have wine sat & Sundays. I’m also going away with my husband in the middle of it and food will be a big part of that trip. Does anyone know what happens if you have a blip mid phase 3?
